Have you heard of the little engine that could? This is the tiny but mighty bakery. I've been visiting Lake Placid for years, but only discovered this bakery this year, mostly by following its patrons who were perambulating around the Main Street with what looked like amazing little scones. Speaking of said scones, they're fantastic. If you're expecting biscuit-line scones, these might be a bit of a disappointment. These are on the bread-ier side of the pastry spectrum, but no less satisfying. We tried the blueberry almond scone and the raspberry white chocolate, and both were scarfed down within minutes. I also love that these aren't sickly sweet. Paired with a latte (for which I highly, highly recommend getting a pump of the hazelnut syrup), Bluesberry Bakery was responsible for supplying some of the best breakfasts we had during our stay in Lake Placid. City folks ought to temper their expectations. This is a small town bakery on a quaint main street, and inside, space is tight. There isn't any seating space, and if two or more groups of customers come in simultaneously, the rest of the queue has to wait outside the door. But things behind the counter are manned by a small, dedicated crew of folks who keep things moving. As with any bakery that makes things fresh, come as soon as the urges hit; when they're out, they're out. Very cute little shop on the main street of town. It is first come first serve, so once they're out of something, they are sold out for the day. They also accept Venmo as payment, which is helpful since I think it is cash only otherwise. I would have liked to see some blueberry based items (like I saw online), but must be seasonal since there were a lot of apple-based options (I visited in November). I must have ordered at least 2 dozen pastries for my friends at the cabin we stayed at for the weekend hike. It cost just under $75 so very reasonable priced and everything it devoured. I got to have the cinnamon roll which of course was delicious. I got to try the apple strudel, and the apples were crisp...as in like biting into a fresh apple. We've been coming here since they opened and it just keeps getting better and better. Their pastries are so fresh and buttery and full of flavor. I have had their tarts, perfectly baked crust, nice amount of fillings and some great flavor choices. Pecan pie is one of my favorites, but I also saw a raspberry with chocolate ganache today that looked amazing. I am a scone lover, but I prefer fruit, not chocolate or sweets. I sometimes don't get but one choice....here I had 4 choices and got the blueberry. Look at the size, I've spent more money on one half the size. This will be 2 snacks for me. They have biscotti, cookies, turnovers, savory and sweet filled croissants. I bought one of their very good sized croissants. Large, buttery, flaky and you'll definitely need a napkin. Their pastries looked and tasted pretty good. We had +/- raspberry chocolate scone: It was nice and moist, but the texture just too much like cake. My preference for good scones is a balance of a slight snappy and crunchy exterior. +/- bacon and egg croissant: They used a puff pastry instead of a croissant dough. It was very oily and flaky and were very sparse on the bacon + drip coffee: I was actually really impressed by how well it was made and it had a good coffee flavor without tasting too overpowering or burnt. Tried a couple pastries on our recent visit and we were quite happy. Suggest arriving early when Pastry case is fresh and full.

We just got the most delicious giant blueberry scone to go, ate it in a nearby park by the lake, and we were in absolute heaven. So much so that we did the same thing the very next day. I've never had a blueberry scone with whole juicy berries before, my first bite was happiness. We also got a delicious raspberry cheese danish, and a banana walnut muffin. I got a mini flourless cake and a mini chocolate mousse cake to go, they traveled well and were some of the tastiest desserts I've ever had. The flourless cake was so fudgey and dark. If I ever get to Lake Placid again you can bet I will stop there two days in a row, maybe three. Very reasonable prices. read more

Great location however very small inside. We even got hit by the door when another customer entered. With that being said, pastries are very good. The staff not so much. They seemed very scrambled while only having 4 customers inside. She bagged up our pastries and left them on the counter to help someone in the back leaving us waiting several minutes in the cramped counter space to check out. There was also someone crouched under the pastries counter not sure why? Possibly the staffs child. Will get pastries again but not if busy. You also never know when they will close as they are open until sold out. read more

We came here a few times during our trip, mostly for the wife to get her chai latte which she said she got addicted to because it was that good. On our last day, we ended up getting some pastries, which included a blueberry scone, blueberry turnover, a coffee cake muffin and an apple cinnamon muffin. The blueberry scone tasted good with the nice big blueberries in it. The blueberry turnover also tasted amazing with its filling and powder on the outside. The apple cinnamon muffin was good and moist. As for the coffee cake muffin, I thought it was good but the other half thought it was dry. Older lady with the white hair was pleasant but the other lady with the brownish hair was grumpy. First impressions especially at 8:30am really does matter -- you're serving a customer his first meal and coffee of the day and know that your tone and demeanor can affect others. Coffee she made was good, I asked for a Quadruple Shot Maple Vanilla Almond Latte. The Sour Cream Coffee Cake was fine too, and my mom seems to like the Spinach & Feta pastry. Chocolate and raspberry scone was disappointing -- dry and not as warm/fresh as I was expecting, based on all the raving reviews I had read here. Blueberry scone was better, but I'd prefer the taste of chocolate and raspberry (if only it was more moist!). The blueberry scone was more moist and had a good crust and "bready" texture. Even so, both scones needed more berries (and chocolate chips in the chocolate-raspberry scone) to give more of a "wet" taste. But I guess it depends on how you like your scones... I like moist, "juicy" pastries, and these scones were simply too dry for me. Apple turnover was great though. The exterior was beautifully flaky and dry, and the inside was oozy-moist (now, THIS is a perfect level of moistness!!) and sweet (but not overly so). So I'm bumping the rating up to 3 stars because of this apple turnover... Portions were huge. Very filling for breakfast. read more

Amazing little location with incredible pastries. The bakery itself is very small, however the variety of pastries and desserts is fantastic. I ordered a chocolate and raspberry scone which was sweet with the right amount of both chocolate and raspberry. My boyfriend ordered a cinnamon bun and sausage and cheese pastry which he said were some of the best pastries he's had. The location is a bit hidden, but the pastries will not let you down!! FYI during COVID only one group is allowed in the bakery at a time and they only accept cash/venmo. read more

I literally giggled when I had my first bite of the chocolate mousse cake. You can see the kitchen from the front and it is clear they make everything in store and it's very clean. They allow only 1 person in at a time, the staff were all wearing masks and 'no mask, no service'. Two thumbs up for their safety precautions. Great fresh muffins, croissants tried the blueberry muffin and the Almond croissant and also the chocolate croissant, so buttery and flakey!

Super friendly service and some of the names of the baked goods are hilarious! The almond croissant has great flavor, was light and airy but had some density which was nice. The linzer tart is the perfect size, with a sturdy crust and just-sweet-enough filling. Don't sleep on the $1 oatmeal raisin cookies!! The outsides are slightly caramelized and crunchy, and the inside is soft and doughy. My only regret is not buying more to bring home after vacation! read more

Stopped in to grab a cranberry scone after a day of shopping on Main. It was just ok, maybe it would've been better heated up? There were many other tasty looking desserts/treats in the display case but I had read other reviews raving about the scones. Young gal at the counter was sweet as pie. The store is quaint with only 3 bar stool seats inside facing the street so you can take in the beautiful view of Mirror lake. As well as a couple seats outside on the sidewalk. I'd love to go again and try another pastry. read more

Bluesberry Bakery, a cash only establishment, has three seats near the door/window. I decided to take my cinnamon apple muffin to a coffee shop nearby. The muffin had good, subtle flavor with chunks of apple. It was very fresh and I appreciated the natural flavors. There was some added sugar to the topping which added to the texture. Overall, really good. I could see how some people may call the food here "bland" however, they could consider the natural sweetness/flavor in the ingredients. read more

We have to assume that the rest of the people who have received Bluesberry Bakery don't know any better. To begin with, the coffee was undrinkable. It's all made from the kind of touch-screen automatic brewing machine that you find in motels, and was so burnt that it tastes nothing like coffee. Of the four pastries we got, only the cherry turnovers which were clearly made with canned cherry pie filling had any flavor. The muffin tasted like nothing, and had the texture of a sponge. The coffee cake was no better. You would truly be better off at Starbucks, which is a sad thing to have to say. To quote one member of our group, while trying to choke down his muffin, "every bite brings me sadness." read more
