I took a Lake Lure Guided Boat tour with Patrick (not Swayze) who had a fun personality and tried to add some comedy to the tour. We were given a history of the area; shown some of the places Dirty Dancing was filmed in the Autumn of 1986. We saw the stairs where Jennifer Grey practiced her dancing. The movie was set in summer but the filming was in autumn so the tree leaves were painted. The water was cold while filming so the actors needed to get warmed up between takes. Some of the houses on the lake caught on fire so that led to a fire service with a boat so they can get there quicker than by road for fires on the lake. A lot of the homes are second homes for folks so I was surprised by the size of them. One of the houses had its own incline system to get from the house to the lake. It reminded me of an incline railway. Another house looked like a castle on the lake. Some of the original houses were smaller. The views from the lake were amazing with the Blue Ridge mountains and Chimney Rock. It is a fun tour with great scenery. read more

We did not use their tour service, instead we rented a pontoon for the day. We had a snafu at the jump, when you hit the google maps icon on their website it takes you to the wrong place. Like 2 hours the wrong direction place. We noticed after about 30 min we didn't think we were headed in the right direction so we called. That put us there an hour into our boat rental instead of on time. The gentleman on the phone, Mark, offered to remove the cost of one hour which we really appreciated. The deck hand, Stephen, was a great host to start the party and made sure we felt safe and didn't have questions. The boat was very clean, and was decked out with Bluetooth, and a place to hold your phone. Tons of cup holders and a ladder for swimming. We had a great day and would definitely rent here again! read more

We rented a boat for the day through this company. The lake was beautiful but the rental process and customer service were not desirable. Not only did they continue to change their story about the rental process they rented us a boat that they knew wasn't safe. The people inside checking us in were short and matter of fact. They did not seem happy to help us and when I commented that we were only renting for half a day she promptly told me that we had to pay for the full day. This is after we had confirmed over the phone that if we wanted to reduce our hours we could and therefore reduce our price. After that, we went out to the boat with the deckhands who were supposed to bring us through a quick safety check to show us where the life vests were and the fire extinguisher was. The young man, who was actually very nice, had no idea where the fire extinguisher was located and also didn't know where the rescue paddle was. Thankfully we were a group of very seasoned boat people and we pointed out to him where the extinguisher was. Then we departed from the dock. After stopping to swim, we realized after people had already jumped in that there was not a ladder on the boat. There was half of a ladder and it was obvious that it was hanging on by one bolt. We immediately phoned the rental company where they commented to us that they knew the whole time the boat didn't have a ladder and that the deckhand was supposed to let us know. The ladder was on order and there was nothing they could do about it. They also mentioned that they had no other boats for the day so they couldn't come out to help us get back into the boat. We ended up having to flag down another boat to get on their boat and then jump over to our boat. All in all, it was a shame that a company would send out a group of people with a boat that did not have the proper safety equipment in place. They decided that their financial gain was more important than the safety of their customers. This boat should be decommissioned until the ladder is fixed. While they did end up refunding part of our money I'm disappointed in the lack of customer service and lack of concern for our safety. I would not rent with this company again. read more

Do not waste time or money here where the employees are disgustingly behaved and are so busy being disrespectful and sloppy that they cannot do their jobs correctly and ruin your entire day's plans. Never seen such a disappointing display of "business." 0 stars would be more fitting. Seek help for your staff immediately, does not aid business to have an unintelligent, unhelpful, ill-mannered staff when the place is already dingey and grimey. read more

This is a one time shot, unless you just are aching for a boat ride and go a second time. I had never been on Lake Lure, it was a beautiful day, the lake was not busy and the tour guide was funny. Sounds like he uses the same jokes, not being the captain but the skipper because the captain goes down with the ship and he won't do that, or "is anyone here local, okay no one, good that way you won't know that I'm making this stuff up." This was a short 40 minute or so ride, we saw a lot of the architecture of the lake and we got a great view on the way back into the marina of the Chimney Rock. Some smaller homes built in the late 1920's (1 or 2 room homes) were on the lake up to miniature Biltmore House architecture. We really enjoyed the ride. read more

the pontoon boat was great. We reserved and rented a 10 person boat (there were 9 of us) for 2 hrs for $200. They charged us for a 13 person boat $260, they didn't have any 10 person boats available, this is not my fault, they could have told us they were all reserved, they did not, but upcharged us for the bigger boat. I called twice and emailed twice to get a $60 refund - I was told "Corporate" would contact me within 48 hrs, its been 6 weeks. They will not try to resolve. I would not advise using this company if you have crutches or any disability that slows you down. My sister unfortunately tore a ligament in her foot the day before our trip so she had crutches and an air cast. We arrived early to the first pontoon boat set to go out in the morning. I advised the two ladies when I was buying our tickets that my sister had crutches and wanted to know if it would be an issue. They said there should be no problems and took our money. We waited in the area as people started to arrive. It looked like the boats were ready and then they announced to everyone to board. Kind of shocked that they did not board us before the crowd like they do on air planes because of my sisters crutches as I already informed them about and you can visually see. The crowd rushed to the boats and filled up all of the seats. By the time we made it to the boat they told us we would have to split up. Only one bench with one lady sitting in it alone was available and one seat behind the captain squeezed between 5 grown adults was also available (which I took that one.) My sister on her crutches asked the lady if she could scoot over on the bench so she could have a seat. The lady seemed so upset that she could not have the bench to herself on this packed boat finally after a moment she made a little spot for her. I started getting frustrated thinking god forbid if the boat capsized I need to be by my sister's side she has a cast on and crutches that is why we arrived so early before the tour. I told the captain who was offering zero assistance to help to our situation if we could move to another boat so we could sit together because of her disability. He sighed then went to go ask. Luckily Dwayne had room on his boat for two and the kind people on that boat let us sit together. Dwayne's narrative on the tour and professionalism was hands down one of the best boat tours we have taken in a while. Which is why it is hard to give such a negative review. I would have happily wrote a 5 star review based upon Dwayne performance alone. The reason I only gave it 1 star was how unaccommodating they are to the disable handicap. We got there early and communicated to this business that we had a disability. Considering the nature of the fist come first serve physicality we thought that they would accommodate the disability but sadly not. The fact that they did not let us board before the crowd ....or save one spot that is close to the entrance on the boat to hop on and off when you have crutches and a cast on is why they get 1 star. read more

We picked perfect day for July, cloudy, no wind which means no waves on the lake. Andy was personable, funny and very well educated with everything to do with the history of the lake and the city. We did the regular tour that costs $15, $12 for age 62 and older but there is also a box lunch tour which is $25. we had a party of 8 so we paid at 10:00 and were off by 10:10. If you are a out of towner, I would really recommend the tour. everything you wanted to know about the area will be answered. read more

Beautiful lake, knowledgeable tour guides...my complaint is that they cannot use microphones or any type of PA system on the boats, due to the complaints from lakeside residents. So unless you're sitting right next to the guide, be prepared to miss most of what he says. I am not completely deaf and am assisted by two hearing aids, but since I was sitting up front and the guide was in back, I couldn't hear any of the details. It was very disappointing and I would not recommend it, unless you sit by the guide. read more

My mom and I had a lot of fun on this boat tour. We came a few years ago but unfortunately the weather made it so they had to refund everyone's money. This year, we came on a brilliantly sunny day. The boats are very comfortable pontoons with nice squishy seats. You don't get wet even when the boat reaches full speed. The captain (or "skipper", because he said he didn't go down with the boat (lol) ) was really informative and super funny, making the tour a complete blast! It happened to be this guy's birthday. I can't wait to bring my friends back here! The tour lasted just under and hour. read more

Extremely rude staff members! Not worth your time! They don't take reservations but require 8 people or they won't go. Which means you have to show up and waste your time only to be treated with rude attitudes and still not get to go for a ride. Waste of my time!! Rent a boat in your own! read more
