Like, seriously, camping just sucks. But here, at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Lake Monroe, I actually kind of enjoy camping a tiny bit, because of these reasons: 1. They offer cabins! And they're super clean! And they come with full refrigerators, and TVs with cable, and full bathrooms with showers inside. And screened porches where you can relax on a summer's evening without having to worry about swatting away mosquitos. 2. They offer a full day's worth of activities for the whole family. When you check in, they give you a long paper that they've printed that lists all the fun they've planned for the time period that you're staying, broken down by the hour. So you can choose to participate in any number of family-friendly activities, like water balloon races, or bubble activities, or crafts, or water gun things. Every morning, you can meet up with Cindy Bear and do some stretches and say the pledge of allegiance. Kids love this stuff! This campground really caters to kids and families. Also, there are dozens of high school- and college-aged kids who work there who are constantly supervising and will start up random games of Simon Says or Red Light, Green Light with kids. 3. Besides the planned activities, this place has an amazing splashground and two pools. The splashground is like a splash pad and water park rolled into one: there are slides, bubblers, sprinklers and the like, with beach chairs around the water area. Next to the splashground is the playground and sandbox, which is where my kids spent a lot of time playing. 4. There's lots of other stuff to do, like hiking (we found lots of geodes!), or you can rent a go cart or golf cart and drive around, or play volleyball or basketball, or jump on the Jump Pillow, or mine for fossils, or play a board game in the recreation room, or get a scoop of ice cream at the Ranger Center. There is seriously so much to do here. I should also note that the people who work here are so friendly and will bend over backward to accommodate you. They are also super chill and totally used to kids being kids, so we felt completely comfortable during our whole stay. I can't say enough positive things about Jellystone Park. We had such a great experience, especially my kids, which is why I suffer through things like camping in the first place. We will definitely be back!

There was also lawnmower noise from the park itself and diesel exhaust from the parks vehicles. I understand employees have to do trail maintenance, but electric vehicles should be used. It was noisier in this park than in my backyard. We went into the Inn to cool down for a bit and the ice machine in the lobby sounded like a Mac truck. There was no indication that the inn has exhibits or a wildlife observation room, so we missed that. When we entered the park, we asked the gate keeper which trails were the most scenic. We were directed to the waterfall and the fire watchtower. The water fall is all of ten feet. We climbed all 106 steps to the top of the fire watchtower only to discover that there is no view from the top. All you can see are the trees a few feet in front of you. The entire experience was underwhelming.

We wanted a quiet place, where we could rest and take a load off. Man! Did we ever find a hidden gem! The owners were super nice, as well as the seasonal folks who took us for a quick cart ride to see the Fallen Rock. This year, we wanted to get away for 10 days over the 4th of July weekend. We didn't think long before we remembered how much we loved this campground! They were so accommodating! We had the same spot of our one=night visit last year. We met many more of the seasonal folks, and their dogs (we brought ours with us this time!) We have already make a reservation to go in the fall next year for the covered bridge festival. In closing, this is the nicest, cleanest park we have stayed at to date. The owners have obviously put their hearts into this place. They feel like family. Oh, and they put on a fireworks shows that rivals the ones in DC!

Our favorite state park in Indiana. My friends and I camp here for a four day weekend at least…read moreonce a year, and sometimes visit for just a day hiking trip and picnic. The campgrounds are excellent, especially Taylor Ridge. But be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you are planning a fall camping trip. Campsites sell out early. Shower rooms are decent, not wonderful. But satisfactory for a campground. Quiet hours are strictly observed, and the park rangers will pay a visit to your campsite if you aren't quiet after 10:00 pm Once we received a visit from a friendly park ranger when we were playing cards around 11 pm. We hadn't realized that we were being noisy at all but the ranger advised us that sound carries throughout the campground. Hiking trails range from easy to moderate. Trail maps are available are the trails are well marked. You will likely see deer and raccoons when hiking the trails. Some members of our group enjoy mountain biking too.

Past the crowd, the views were everything! It was eye candy and so worth the traffic, wait time and people. The park itself is very huge and has a couple entrance points and is well maintained. We hiked the Straul Lake hike and it's an easy 1 mile hike which had exceptional views- I just couldn't stop looking! The lookout points are another easy way to stop and click pictures, enjoy the views and just relax. Beware that internet depending on your provider can be hard to find. All in all brown county is a name for a reason. So worth the hype!

No water this time of the year or creeks running which my pups would have loved. But it was a hike that broke a sweat so I am a happy hiker. MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD OFFLINE MAPS as you loose internet multiple times inside the park. Parts of the hike were in access to the network and I had back up. But it could be an issue for someone getting lost. There's a pretty lake for fishing and it's a very quiet, not so hyped park and has such a serene atmosphere. Lots of serious hikers on the trail but nothing to say it was overcrowded.

It's pristine, clean, decent and clean restrooms (when they get around to adding the TP), and although the roads are in bad shape in many places, it's a fine spot for forest bathing. Your cellphone might not work in some parts of it. Put it away. If you simply must, go to the top of most hills. There are no gas stations or stores within ten miles in any direction; bring the stuff you need for your visit. In the summer, the amount of oxygen you can get here is almost overwhelmingly delicious. There are playgrounds, picnic tables, and shelters, and hundreds of places for a picnic on a blanket/rug. There are insects; remember your bug spray and tick repellent. Enjoy. It's FREE.

When we got there, we followed the signs to paintball. We went into the place that looked like it would be the office, it was. We made sure everyone signed the waiver, a few of us wanted overalls. We got everything done and we were ready for our safety / procedure instructions. After that, we started the paintball fight! We split in two teams, the teams were mixed each session, we played about 6 rounds with 3 different games and then it was time for us to head home - we could have been there longer, but we had a schedule to keep. Overall - it was a fun time for everyone.

This park is amazing. It is a gem located in Bloomington. It is a Rails to Trails pedestrian…read morethoroughfare and was once an old rail switchyard. It spans 65 acres and was opened in 2019. By the looks of it, I though that it was opened more recently. This park has everything you want in a park and much more. This is a modern park and I was really felling it. There are two decent sized parking lots for you to park your vehicle. What amenity that brought you to the park will determine the lot that you will use. The park features a dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. There is seating for pooch owners to sit in each area, as well as lots of green space and a few obstacles for the pups to play. There are a few picnic tables in between the two dog areas. The park also has a ton bright green picnic tables in a plaza area just off of one of the parking lots and a very nice shelter with picnic tables under it, a fireplace and a grill. This area is also where you will find the restroom facility in this area. There is also a low-key splash pad in this area, but it was shut down for the season during my November visit. This park is also home to an awesome outdoor amphitheater with lawn seating. It looks pretty impressive. There is also an 11,000 square foot pavilion with overhead doors, making it an indoor/outdoor event space. Both spots are available for rent and are prime spots to host your next event. They are used to host special events such as 5K runs, farmer's markets, and You will also find a skate park that could easily be a stand alone park itself. It is a concrete park with bowls, rails, and a snake run. Graffiti, tags and stickers are prohibited in the skate park area, but you will find some nice tags just outside of it. The park's playground is first class. It is a huge area on a mud-free rubber/artificial grass surface. There are benches, walls and glider swings for caregivers to sit while their littles play. The area's equipment includes saucer swings, tunnels, a rock climbing wall, slides, some traditional swings, wall net climbers, a pyramid net climber, and xylophones. The equipment is very modern and looks relatively new. On the other end of the park is where you will find a very nice full basketball court, a bocce ball court, and 4 pickle ball courts. There is a large patch of green space on this side of the park as well that is suitable for picnic, playing catch, or tossing a frisbee. A Bloomington police also has a station at this entrance to the park. Even though their is a police presence on site, the park contracts with a security company to assist with park patrols and safety. The highlight of this side of the park though is the outdoor fitness area. It is a circular area that has equipment that includes a chest press machine, a shoulder press machine, a strider, a dip machine, sit up bench and pull-up bar. In the shadow of the workout area is a community gardens, which feature 39-foot by eight-foot raised garden beds that are available for rent. A 3.1 mile trail, the B-Line Trail, passes directly through the park. The Trail is nicely paved, completely accessible and well illuminated with LED lighting. If 3.1 miles is not enough for you, it connects to the Bloomington Rail Trail, thus adding 2 more miles. This is a nice park that has everything you could ask for. It is well maintained. I will not that there are a few urban campgrounds on the outskirts of the park and you will find transients sleeping on park benches and using the restroom there, but they are not aggressive and just keep to theirselves. I highly recommend checking this park out. You can easily spend a half day here.
