When people think of whiskey in Indiana's Brown County, they might think of that other place. (You…read moreknow the one.) But there is another distillery quietly making small-batch, high-quality spirits in Nashville, and that's Bear Wallow Distillery. Located just outside of downtown Nashville, Bear Wallow Distillery is one of the only female-owned distilleries in the country. They create their spirits in a traditional copper pot still, which I learned is unique. Inside the tasting room, you can enjoy a whiskey tasting or a flight, or sip a craft cocktail and relax in the shop. I chose to enjoy a "Call Me Old Fashioned" standing up at the bar, while chatting with the guy who made me my drink. My Old Fashioned was well balanced, not too sweet and made me feel all warm inside, as a good Old Fashioned should. Those who are interested in learning more about the whiskey-making craft can go on a Farm-to-Fifth Tour, which takes you behind the scenes to learn about the history of whiskey and see the full production process. I did, and I found it very informative! I had a new appreciation for the kind of whiskey and spirits they are making here at Bear Wallow Distillery. From the ingredients they choose to the barrels they use, they really put their foot in it, as they say. If you like whiskey, or just like to try local spirits, this is a good place to visit in Nashville.

The guy working was so nice and explained everything so we knew what the different whiskey's were. We loved it and I would for sure come back here. We went on a Sunday around lunch and there was no one else there. Very nice to have the place to ourselves!

Depending on how busy they are, you may have a short wait for a table, and your food might take a little longer to come out--but it's well worth it. Don't stop at just the restaurant. Take some time to explore the beautiful grounds, browse the merchandise shop, and walk out to Hard Truth on the Rocks, where you'll find a spacious outdoor deck overlooking the property. During the warmer months, they often have live music, making it an easy place to spend a few relaxing hours. The cocktails are excellent, the staff has always been incredibly friendly, and there's plenty of Hard Truth merchandise if you're looking for a souvenir. I may or may not have left with a t-shirt. Whether you're visiting Brown County for the day or just passing through Nashville, Hard Truth is more than just a restaurant--it's a destination that's absolutely worth adding to your itinerary.

I ordered the spinach salad and it came out perfectly. I had grilled chicken added to it. The flavor was great and there were sun-dried tomatoes, bacon, and walnuts on the salad. Honestly it didn't seem horrible to me,of course that could be because we were told to arrive once the boat was secured for the day. When my husband and I arrived the computer system was down so the attendant said we were to enter free for the day since he couldn't take payments. The day just got better from here. Our friend, whose birthday it was only had a short wait, but to him it seemed long he said. Once he got to the front he was told we had a wait of approximately twenty minutes. During this time, my husband and I found front parking next to our friend's car, thanks to his wife. When we got in touch with our friends car he had us to bring our coolers and sunblock and we all met up at the restrooms where there were a few picnic tables as well as an awning to block the sun. We took the wait time to play a card game and snack. After a few hands of cards we were called back to check in and we got our life vests and saw a short video as well as signed waivers. Nikko was very helpful in getting us onto our boat and with a 'have a great time!' We were off! Peaceful waters for the day and we even saw friends which was a surprise as they were put with their sailboats. All in all it was a great way to spend the day and we would definitely go again!

We had…read morenever been on a boat together before, and I was kind of wondering what I had gotten ourselves into when we stepped aboard. The thoughts running through my head included: How the heck does a boat work? How am I going to shuttle us along safely when I've never driven a boat before? And other anxious boating thoughts. But luckily, Paradise makes it easy to rent a vessel and take it out on the lake, even if you've never driven a boat before. First, when you book your reservation, you are directed to watch a long video about the dos and don't of boating on a lake. Then, the kind people at Paradise go over the rules again when you're there before you shuttle off. It turns out that boating isn't super difficult, as long as you follow some common-sense rules! And also, always wear a life jacket! We rented a pontoon, which is great if you have kids with you because this vessel has a canopy that provides lots of shade. Kids can't be in the sun all day, you know! The pontoons also have lots of storage space so you have places to put all of your snacks and extra supplies. We spent about three hours out on the lake, and by the end of the journey, I felt like I was almost a boating pro! Renting from Paradise was a great experience from start to finish, and I'll definitely be renting from them again the next time we want to spend time boating on Lake Monroe.

They also have wave runners (jet skis) for rent. This year we are going all out and renting what they call a 35 ft Destination Yacht that handles 18 people. This "yacht" is two story, has a restroom on board, a wet bar, and a curved slide from the upper deck down to the right above the water. You can bring a grill on board if you like. They require you watch a video online about boat safety and take a test to record the results proving you watched the video. After three years of these tests I finally scored a perfect test score! The staff is always courteous, friendly and very helpful. The boats come fueled and clean. You do a quick walk around and makes notes of any prior damage so you don't get dinged. They always go through all of the features with you, tell you some tips for safe handling and take the time to answer all your questions.
