Large beautiful park near the lake. This park has a big grassy area, shaded seating, a playground. Its popular spot for birthday celebrations, sports, kids ride their scooters and bikes around. Normally I would walk on foot the entire lake, but today I tested out this 3.5 miles loop with my bike, a lot of steep hills, but it was a great workout cut my time almost 2/3, still hated the part when I can't loop the whole trail without circling back, but the weather was just perfect between 3-4:30 pm til it gets dark sooner. read more

I have been walking here with my son a couple of times a week and we have been having a blast! There is a lot of wide open space and he loves to be able to just run around and I love that he can run around and I don't have to worry so much about his safety as we usually run around the parking lot of my apartment complex... not the best space for a 1 1/2 year old. The sides are tree lined so there is dirt for him to play in. There is also a playground that looks really cool. I know my son would absolutely love it if I playing on the equipment with him but I'm trying to keep him off of it due to COVID. The playground is technically closed and there are signs up on it but it seems many families are ignoring the signs and their children are still playing on the structure. There is 1 portapotty there but otherwise, no bathrooms. The only negative for me is that although the sides are tree lined, that is really it so there isn't much shade. I would love if there was some more around. There is a pergola near the playground structure with tables underneath it but I really wish for some shade where I am playing with my son. Overall, I know I will keep coming back here as my son loves it so much. I can't wait until we can start using the playground equipment! read more

I had no idea that this park sported several baseball and softball fields. When you arrive at the park, it is a small walk west on a little dirt road or you can simply drive in from a separate drive way from Murray Park Drive. The park itself is nice and offers a nice flat grass area with some trees, playground equipment, a few drinking fountains, and picnic tables. There's a portable bathroom at the park but much better facilities at the ball park area. The park has a nice side walk that meanders around the park for those who would like to go on a stroll or teach the little ones to ride. Oh yes, and then there's Lake Murray Nearby...I'm talking walking distance! read more

I've lived next to this park for over a year and while the park itself is great, I think the "community" aspect about it kind of ruins it for me. 5 stars for nature because nature is awesome... but minus two stars for a couple of things which I will explain right now. Kiowa street leading to the lake is unfortunately always occupied with numerous people living out of their cars, with sketchy looking vehicles being parked on the street for literal weeks on end. Theres just trash everywhere sometimes. I'm not even trying to pass judgement on those less fortunate. All I'm saying is that its a shame there isn't a better solution for this, because it ultimately brings down the area. Beyond that, the people who tend to the park seem a bit jaded. Speaking of trash, there was once an instance where I saw a duck that had a long piece of plastic stuck in it's wing and it appeared to be suffering from not being able to fly. I reported this to a near by city worker, and it looked like he was trying to get out of what I was asking him help for. He said something to the effect of "oh I can't do anything right now" and then talked about how the lake has to make money from the canoeing so theres bound to be trash. Some douchey, condescending answer like that... then he quickly hopped back into his truck. The duck wasn't even that far into the water and I'm sure he could have pulled something out of his truck to help get it, considering it couldn't even fly away. Not to mention that there was a dead body pulled from the lake months ago (and we've literally heard nothing about it still) I've just stopped going to the lake for numerous reasons involving humans. I'm sure there are a lot of people working to solve these problems and actually do care about the quality of the park, but for now i'll take my family elsewhere. read more

I live near Lake Murray and Mission Trails Park and make almost daily use of these fine facilities. Lake Murray Community Park is a beautiful and well-maintained park centered around the Lake Murray Reservoir. It provides opportunities for fishing, boating, and kayaking. You can rent or launch your own boat. The park also has numerous picnic areas with tables and grills, making it a fantastic spot for family gatherings, picnics, or barbecues. There are shaded areas and trees throughout the park, providing ample opportunities to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Additionally, there are playgrounds for children to enjoy, adding to the family-friendly atmosphere. The picnic facilities are in a lovely area that is well maintained. Many people use the paved walking path around Lake Murray on a daily basis as do my wife and I. Everyone seems to enjoy the exercise and the beauty offered here in this otherwise urban environment. Dogs are allowed on leash. Ample parking and restroom facilities are readily available and multiple locations. Both Lake Murray and Mission Trails are real treasures and much loved. Google Maps will take you to the baseball fields if you use this address so you want to keep on Murray Park Dr. if you're heading east and you will eventually hit the park. You could technically get to the park from Lake Murray but it would be quite a trek so it's better to go through the residential neighborhood north of Lake Murray and park on the street. Nestled in the hills of San Carlos, this park offers fun and imaginative play for children of all ages. There are several concrete picnic tables, some under relatively shady structures, and lots of open space on the grassy field encircled by a paved sidewalk. The "landscape structures" playground features sail shades and numerous activities for children including several types of slides, climbing rocks, clatter bridge and monkey bars, plus a swing set, spring riders and merry-go-round. I brought an 18 month old and a 5 year old and they both enjoyed themselves. It's nice to go to a park that has equipment for different age groups. All in all a lovely, modern playground where you can feel comfortable bringing your children to play. read more

This park is well kept and is also used quite a bit by children playing and adults practicing yoga, exercising etc. I like that they keep it clean and that the people using the park clean up after themselves. Fun place to bring the littles. The slide made of individual rollers is the stand out attraction with the kids. The park is well laid out and there's something there for all playing skill levels. The park is surrounded by a large grassy field and theirs a paved walkway for walking, skating and riding. Theirs a field of trees off to the side that offers a little hidden fort like area for the kids to climb on felled tree trunks but stay on the path or else you'll be covered in sticker burrs! read more

One of the BEST parks for children in the area. The playground was updated in October 2012, so it is new. It is clean, fun, safe and usually full of kids and parents. It has a toddler side, and big-kid side. It has a rollar slide, climbing rocks, and a merry-go-round. It is located in a nice neighborhood with views of Lake Murray. The playstucture is covered, so it doesn't get too hot. There is also a table area that is covered for the parents. Big open grass area as well. Downside: Parking is bad. Most people park on the street and the playground area is on the other side of the park, so you cannot be close to your vehicle. No sand. (I am a fan of the sand parks, which is why I like San Carlos a little better than this park) It has that bark that all the new parks have. Bathrooms. There is only a port-a-potty, which I find annoying. But this is absolutely a great park that I highly recommend. read more

So in my never ending search for the perfect playground I stumbled upon this gem. I am mainly going to focus on the playground/play structure aspect of the park. Play structure seems fairly new maybe not even a year old and has a nature-ry kind of theme... Logs, rocks, leaves, etc... Which came out really nice and has a great layout. The highlight of the play structure hands-down has to be the roller slide. The kids really dug it. If you have "spirited" kids (like I do) it would behoove you to warn them of the hazards of trying to walk up this slide. The only negative thing I can say about this park is the lack of a permanent restroom. Instead there is a Porta-potty. We went on a hot day and there were easily 20 flies in the commode. We went on Thursday morning so we were the only ones in the entire park. I imagine this part it's pretty crowded on weekends. All in all it was a great park and I definitely recommend taking your kids there. read more

The playground looks really cool I just wish it was open. It's sort of close to the baseball fIellds but not really. The one downside there isn t a bathrooM. It's serviced by a porta-potty, which was not stocked on a Saturday. Lake Murray Community Park is the perfect combination of walk and play. TRAIL: Unlike many parks in San Diego, you can actually run, bike, or push a stroller on a paved trail that surrounds a lake. Along with plenty of trees and the sound of ducks nearby, the trail makes it really pleasant to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, without needing to drive out to the mountains for some true nature. There are plenty of bathrooms and trash cans along the trail which is especially useful when you take your dog for a walk with you. Walking at sunset when it's not too hot is especially nice. PLAYGROUND: The playground nearby is not only massive, but clean, spacious and full of fairly new equipment. With slides, a merry go-round, and more, the playground has lots of various play structures for kids to go crazy over. The large umbrellas overhead help provide shade a on hot day which is also a plus. I especially like the grassy area just by the playground as well. The parking situation seems a bit tricky, since the parking lot is by the baseball fields. However, you can park just across the street from the playground, or walk the short distance from the baseball fields. I couldn't be happier to have stumbled upon this park. It really has a happy balance of a "nature-atmosphere" and a nicely dedicated area for children play. It really does give a "community" feel to the area, and I only wish there more parks like this throughout San Diego. read more

My only complaints are I think that the only bathrooms are porta pottys and that cars seem to drive so fast along the street. This is a great playground with lots of fun equipment for the kiddos. There's a really fun slide my son wouldn't get off of and the merry-go-round was safer than most. There are also plenty of covered picnic tables and a large grassy area. The main downfall is the dirt "parking lot". It's a little far from the playground. You can park on the street but it, too, is a little walk. I'm not lazy, but when you have an infant and toddler, it's much easier to be closer when you have to haul everything out of the car. Overall, the park is great. Looking forward to coming here more often. read more

This park is great because it has a LOT of grass area, borders lake murray and has a decent sized playground for the young ones. I have seen workout classes here, dog training classes and soccer games (hopefully this gives you an idea of the size). Good paved walking path along the outskirts, to run or walk your pet. This is a standard neighborhood park with a playground and open grass area. It is at the Del Cerro end of Lake Murray (not the La Mesa side). There is no good view of the water from the park itself per se, but within short walking distance of a lake view. It is right next to the golf course- no lake access through the gold course; there is a fence between the golf course and the Lake Murray trail. There is one port-o-potty. The playground is good, nice looking equipment with several slides including a tall slide, and spinners. There is a little league size baseball field and tennis courts- to access these, use the parking lots that are off to the side of the park. read more
