Lake Pueblo State Park isn't the most luxurious in terms of landscape or big campsites, but it does have a big lake, hiking trails and tranquility. The dam is such a sight to see. Honestly, one of the coolest architectural dams I've seen. There is not a lot of greenery compared to other state parks. It's mostly flat rocks, brush and the great plains. However, its still beautiful and a nice place to relax and enjoy the water. They've got a nice marina and pier, which most state parks I've been to don't have. The park has loads of campsites all varying in size and location. And each one has a covered picnic table. What a great place to get away from it all. read more

I rode my MTB here on 12/31/21 in biking shorts and a tee! I know we've been having mild weather but from what I've heard, it's typically warmer down there. There was some climbing, but nothing crazy. Also the blacks weren't overly technical. A few questionable rock drops (loose rock) and some wood ramps down, that's it. Some trails were fairly flat and out in a field. The views when by the reservoir were nice. In the valley trails tucked in a bit they were full. Of. Tumbleweeds. Crazy amounts. So that required some stopping to pull them out of our brakes and cassette. Overall a fun riding spot. For me living over an hour away, not something that I'm in a rush to drive that far for since there's so much closer to home. Though maybe a good option if the trails in the Springs are snow covered. Broken hip trail was super fun and flowy. read more

Went up 2/5/26, the pay booth was still not fixed since I was there a month ago. No one never answers the phone at the visitors center. I had to drive b the dam to pay. Called several times while I was there, still no one answers. Just get a voice message. It's a shame you got people who are employed to service customers and i can't get no help. 10.oo is quite a bit to pay especially coming from the Springs. I bet if I would have not paid the ranger or whoever would have ticketed me. Do better. The fishing was lousy. If I can report this place please let me know who to report the pay booth and whomever is at the frontdesk of the visitor center. No signs posted saying the pay toll is broke. Found someone who doesn't even work there to confirm the staff don't care. Do better, especially since you suppose to service visitors from all over. Update your website, post signs, do something. This is a large state park which is a real gem. The campgrounds are really nice and well maintained. There are miles of trails around the park. Some campgrounds lend themselves to larger RVs, some are more oriented to camping. The views are amazing. read more

Best time is not summer for natural beauty due to noisy boaters, etc. Camping suffers from unregulated partying deep into night on weekends. Park Rangers are available at night if issues... must call local sheriff deputies. Weekday camping is the most pleasant. read more

I appreciate the area's natural beauty (thus the 3 stars), but I have serious concerns about the lack of hunting regulations. I've frequently witnessed hunters shooting very close to hiking trails. Many cyclists have had to duck quickly as gunshots ring out, and I've seen hikers yelling at hunters, warning that someone could get hurt. While some hunters are courteous and will wait for hikers to pass before firing, many are not. I've talked to several hikers who share my concerns about the hunters firing their guns near the trails. I've also approached park rangers about this issue, but nothing has changed. This place might suit you if you don't mind feeling terrified during a morning walk. But if, during hunting season, you want to go for a safe walk, go somewhere else. read more

Great get away from The City so to speak. I haven't caught a bass in Colorado yet so I made my way to Pueblo Lake. Fishexplorer.com helped me with maps, inside information I needed to catch fish. The reports said Good fishing and I wasn't disappointed. 60 miles of shoreline to choose from open 9AM-4PM daily. Good for picnicking with the family. You can rent Jet Skis, kayaks or canoes. Winter Hiking I had the chance to check out Lake Pueblo earlier this year while passing through town. I had come in late the night before and had an early morning appointment with a customer in the area and then had the whole day to get to Brighton. I heard on the news that there was a break in the weather for a few hours and decided to get in a few hours of hiking before the storm set in. The area around the lake and the state park are great for photo ops. There are hills and pullovers on the side of the road, as well as trails in the area. I didn't have a whole lot of time so I decided to head straight into the park. My first stop was the Park Station to get some information on the park and to learn about its history. The reservoir was built back in the early part of the last century to provide water to the vast acres of farmland in the area. It was also known historically as home to many Indigenous cultures that lived in the area. After my trip to the Park station and armed with info on where to hike, off I went. I headed down to the lake and walked around for a bit. I spoke to some boaters who even though it was still winter, were getting their boats ready for the opening of the fishing season. Luckily the howling wind had died down from the night before and the lake was very calm. I walked around the lake for a while and then walked around the area watching the mountains in the distance and the snow-covered hills that made up the landscape. I was out there alone and felt very fortunate that the sun would pop its head out for a few minutes and every so often and give me a real sense of the serene beauty that the area has. This was a great hike and I took more time to observe than I did take pictures, it was just that kind of afternoon. For those of you who haven't been there before, the lake has what most parks with lakes have in the US, like boating, swimming, camping and other facilities for showers and of course restrooms. I will make it a point to return once again in warmer weather and enjoy the lake for myself. read more

Two marinas, plenty of tent camping sites as well as RV sites all with plentiful rest rooms, visitor center, hiking trails, fishing, a real dam and fish hatchery, and more. It is no wonder that there are over a million vehicle visits per year. But the area is so large it does not feel crowded. This could be a 5 star park but unfortunately Colorado's horrible booking system won't let me give it more than 3. The park is beautiful and most sites have ample space with a covered picnic table and fire pit. There is no water or sewer hookups so you must fill up and dump at the dump station at the entrance of the campground. The area is beautiful and I definitely recommend doing the quick hike to the top of the ridge at the back of the park. Amazing view from up there. Be careful as there are rattle snakes around. We heard about one group who's dog was bitten and we actually saw one while on the trail, luckily a part of his tail and rattle was sticking right into the path or I might of missed it. Now on to the bad. I've never stayed at a state park that was over $20 dollars a night. Usually 50 amp with water although I've also seen full hookup state parks for around $20. Not so I'm CO, this park with just electric is $36/night, but it doesn't stop there. On top of that you need to buy a pass for the park, you would think a campground reservation would include that, oh nay nay! That's minimum $8/ day some parks it's more. You are now at $44/night for nothing but electric, if you get a none electric site you save maybe like $10 over electric. You also have to book it all online, which is fine I guess, unless you have an issue. In that case there's no one at the park to contact. All your reservation emails list a phone number that takes you round and round on a robo loop and if you manage to get someone they don't actually work at the park. Campground office was never open in the week we spent here. The entrance booth was only manned once. So if you have issues good luck, drive around until you see a ranger I guess. If it had reasonable pricing and was actually staffed it could be a 5 star park, but we probably won't be back. read more

We have stayed here many times and enjoyed it. But our last stay was very disappointing. The online reservation system is terrible. Checking a site and a completely different one comes up when you click on it. We have a large motorhome so have to be careful with sites. We finally find one and with a lot of effort got it. We got in and we're looking at the site and first thing I see is garbage in the fire ring. Then all the dog poop everywhere. We had to watch where we were stepping and keep our dogs away from it. There is a campground host there but they don't seem to be doing their jobs. We then watched a woman walk her dog to an empty site, letting it relieve itself and walk away.....very disappointing!!!!! read more

This is a beautiful place to camp compared to any of the private sites I looked up. Spacing between the sites is ample and how they are staggered makes it even better. We were able to snag a pull through site long enough for our 34' rv and towed car. The view of the lake and dam were great. The covered picnic table was nice. We also enjoyed a night of cooking s'mores on the fire pit. I was able to find enough wood left over in empty campsites that I didn't need to go out and buy some. If you enjoy geology this place is a hot spot. My daughter noticed some fossils in the big rocks near the waters edge. Your not allowed to collect fossils in a state park but it was still nice to find them and take a picture. As for the bad part of the park. Camping reservations are done online and it is a little difficult to navigate. It was especially difficult looking for a site long enough for us. We had to click on each site individually. Paying a park entrance fee along with a camping fee left a bitter taste in my mouth since we were rolling into camp at 8pm. I was pretty shocked that it was almost $50 to camp in a state park. After looking around it looks like that is the norm for Colorado. A hose bib and sewer dump is available at the campground but you do not have exclusive hookups. I almost brought my rating down a star for the bathrooms. Luckily the view and space of the campground holds the star up. Since I am on the road over a month one of the major factors on picking a place is strangely the bathroom. Our RV bathroom is not very luxurious so we prefer to use the provided showers. With this Campground charging so much I expect a little more out of it. I seen the daily bathroom cleaning crew cleaning the bathrooms an hour before I entered. There was feces on the toilet seat the floor was filthy with dirt and sticks. The garbage can was almost full. The shower has an open stall with a bench at the end of it. Thus all your clothes get a little water on them and you have to dress yourself on a soaking wet dirty floor. The shower is a push button time to shower with lukewarm water that gets cold on and off. So if you live near by you will probably opt to take a shower when you get home. Overall we had a good time and all the neighbors were quite. I could see how this place could be party central with the lake being so close to town. I just wish it was cheaper to camp in the state park system. read more

This particular state park is really nice. Friendly park employees. Great roads, trails and facilities. I went kayaking for a few days on my most recent visit in the area. I had a fantastic time! There were so many natural rock formations, coves and such to explore! There was even a neat little island on the north side that looked like it was straight out of Croatia! I saw fish each day jumping and swimming. It was really great! read more

Usually, people here are very kind. However, we were heading down to the South Shore swim beaches and the Lake Rentals person wearing a sun hat, accused us of our dog going to the bathroom in the middle of the road. He in fact did not because we watched him the whole time and he didn't even have time to go because we were walking. He then proceeded to get out of his rental truck, started cussing at us, screamed in my dads face, and told my mother to shut the fuck up on her birthday in fact, and cussed at me and my sister. (14&17) Then made us pick up poop that wasn't from our dog. This is absolutely disgusting behavior. My family loves camping here but this was not okay and something needs to be done. read more

Well the BF had to go south and meet a colleague for some work talk on the fourth of July of all days. I accompanied him under the bribe that we would get to go out on his friend's boat. Well I'm in! The work was done, the boat was loaded, and so we hit the road. Of course we weren't the only ones wanting to escape the heat! In fact we had to wait about and hour at the ramp just to get to boat in the water. Not due to capacity of the lake, but due to restrictions parking our truck and trailer after launch. Boo! You'd think they'd allow you to line some of the edges of their parking lots on such a busy holiday... Guess they just didn't think of this. Now once we were in the water it was great!! Such a large lake! It was excellent. There are lots of little coves that on a less windy day would've been excellent to drop anchor and sunbathe in. Maybe next time! read more

This place really surprised me. My friend and I were ready to go camping but also didn't totally want to freeze to death so we figured we'd head south. This is a super nice state park. The lake is large and really beautiful lined with all of this neat limestone. The campgrounds were great, each one has a fire pit, our was close to a restroom which is always nice and each campground has its' own picnic table. I have an inflatable kayak and we took it out on the lake staying inside the no wake buoys and had a great time. I brought my two dogs with me and as long as they're leashed it's no problem. It's annoying that you have to book online because the website isn't user friendly. We went to the visitor's center and thankfully they're able to process reservations there and we also discovered that you can call and make reservations. We didn't discover a pretty nice part of the Arkansas River in the park until the last day which was sad as it's banks were a nice area it looked like to spend the day just hanging out. I'll definitely come back! read more

OK, this review will be a bit schizophrenic! First, this is a total go-to place for us and love the boating/camping. Lots of great friends to connect with during the summer. Large, clean lake with some cool hang-out coves to tie-off our boats. Arkansas Point campground on the South side is the best for us. Second, as much as we really enjoy this place they still need to catch up with the amenities the other state parks have for camping. Need improvements such as WiFi, full hook-up sites, etc that the others have. Also, I know that there are some comments on here about the park Police(positive ones). However we have been coming here for years and the Park Police are generally well know for cutting in new recruits. As such they have far too much Hubris and tend to take advantage of their ability to write a ticket, or imply they will if for example a tire might be touching a blade of grass. They do need to understand they are there for the safety and enjoyment of the guests and less about being "cops". read more

This is the Colorado Party Lake. If you want to have a party all weekend, day and night, it's for you. If you want to have a good time with your family, go somewhere else. There is no such thing as quiet time. The "Rangers" don't range. They have nice new offices they stay in instead of ranging. Most of the drownings the last few years have been this year. They seem to like their offices too much. Instead of new offices they should have bought them new vehicles... Maintenance is great, but the Ranger problem takes most of the benefits away. read more

This place is great you can come out and do a jet ski ride ride around have a great time fish or whatever your heart desires. The South ramp is a no wait area so if you want to do paddle boating or anything of that nature to stay away from the motor boats you can if you go to North ramp it is balls to the wall. read more

Beautiful park with a huge lake for boating and recreation. It's $7 for a day pass. I like to swim and found that the park has a designated spot with a large beach, paddle board and kayak rentals, and THE CLEANEST bathrooms ever! There is a large covered pavilion and picnic tables with bbq pits under big trees. There are a large gaggle of geese(no kidding) and one just bit my toe! Don't feed them. Be sure to bring a float and safety floats for the kids. Water is nice and cool, shallow to about 6' deep in the middle. I give #coloradostateparks 5 stars for a clean and well maintained area. read more

Lake Pueblo State Park is huge! There are a ton of places to go camping, fishing, and boating. We stopped by a little pond, which had a lot of places to fish from the shore, as well as a dock area. There are a lot of benches to stop and have a picnic. There is a swim beach by the pond, and it looked to be quite crowded. We went to the reservoir area to try to fish, but with all the boats and how close they came to the shore, we didn't have much luck. I don't think we were in a low wake area, though. Most of the people we talked to were very nice, although there were a few groups of people who played music way too loud. We haven't had a chance to look around too much, but I would definitely like to come back. There is a $7 daily park pass fee, unless you get the annual parks pass. read more

I'm visiting the park off season and it is very quiet and the rangers and park host for camping my travel trailer are all very kind. The rv parks were under repair for upgrades in electricity. Wasn't a problem, my trailer is self sufficient. The running/hiking trails were phenomenal. I loved em. I even long boarded for awhile and the paved path was fine. The park is referred to as "the redneck riviera" because there is a marina and there are everything from fancy yachts to small fishing boats. The ranger told me in the summer the rv parking is completely packed and there are loud campers galore. But for now this place is a haven. I'm here in the beginning of March. read more

If you are looking for boating, it may be just fine. However, we brought our family swimming. At the gate, the 'ranger' didn't even get up to acknowledge us, which was unfortunate as we didn't know where the swim beach was and it wasn't clearly marked. We found the boat launch, asked for directions from an employee who was really confusing with his directions. Then, after getting a map from the visitor's center, who was pretty helpful, we made it to the beach. The beach itself was a small offshoot of the main boating reservoir. It is not shaded and the water was pretty gross. The wildlife was a million Canadian Geese who wandered from person to person looking for handouts. Sometimes they'd swim with you, sometimes they'd waddle next to you. Either way, watch your step. read more

Noisy Campground barking dogs party animals, camp host said his hands were tied cuz he had no authorization, not a park ranger in site and one never came after camp host texted him, not a happy camper. Tried fishing and boats were blazing through no wake zone in beautiful quiet coves blasting their stereos and again no Ranger in sight. read more
