18 months ago I would have given a 5 star review. My dog Presia started to get poor care, no follow-up and outright neglect for her health needs. I complained over and over and Dr. Stiehle was promoted to director and assured me things would change. Things got a little better and then mote neglect for my dog. I was adopting a rescue kitten and the office screwed all the information up and I almost lost the adoption. I contacted Dr. Stiehle about the situation with no response and that's how little she really cares al9ng with the rest of the office. I fired them and got records and saw the new vet who reports Presias vaccines were out of date when I was at Lakeshore 3 weeks ago. I spent over $2,000's to treat an ear infection with resilient bacteria and it's most probable my dog has an allergy and doing allergy testing to resolve things with the new vet. My dog also has cracking in the corners of her mouth that should have been treated and the problem is blatantly obvious. Dr. Stiehle said Presia needed to lose weight to 85 pounds and we put her on a diet and they starved my dog who dropped to 75 pounds which is total neglect of my dog. Presia gets weighed every time she goes to the vet and was seen 3 weeks ago and they should have alerted me to her drastic weight loss and increased her food intake. If you love you pet/pets the way I do switch vets to get the care they need. I worked with the director for 18 months and was promised positive changes which never occurred and they broke my trust over and over again. I contacted Dr. Stiehle about current issues by text and email and waited 10 days with no response which means she does not care about the pets she treats. The front desk is disorganized, neglectful and at times very rude. I am sad that the practice has fallen apart and they treated my dog for 5 years and got great services. I switched vets and Presia and my new kitten are getting excellent care now and m relieved my pets will be well taken care of. Here are my pets happy and healthy with their new Vet! read more

First visit and happy so far. We needed a same day visit and Lake Shore was the only one willing to accommodate. All employees are very friendly and genuinely seem to care about people's pets. A few things stood out to me: 1) We waited quite awhile to get our cat's medicine and were getting antsy. When the tech finally returned she explained that the cost of the medicine seemed high and they didn't want to overcharge us. 2) They fit is in for a same-day visit because they knew our cat had an urgent concern. 3) Everything was thoroughly explained and instructions sent home with us. 4) They called the next day to make sure everything was going well and had suggestions when I explained the difficulties I was having administering the meds. There are vets closer to us but we are sticking with them because of the care and concern received. read more

Wow!!! What a positive experience!!!! Reached out to them with the need to get a Golden Retriever in for an impromptu C-section. She had delivered 6 ups but #7 was stuck. The Front Office staff was UNBELIEVABLY helpful and engaged. They actively worked to figure out a solution. Unfortunately, I have just had the SAME experience with calling for a sick pet. Receptionist Kelly was informed of diarrhea, vomiting and lethargy. I was offered Monday 9/28/2020. TODAY IS TUESDAY 9/22/2020. This is totally unacceptable for a puppy who is lethargic along with diarrhea and vomiting!!! Then I ask if if they are still offering "drop offs." Kelly says not for my dog since he hasn't been seen "in a year." I knew right away that he was neutered the day before Thanksgiving. Definitely not a year just yet. She abruptly put me on hold while I was still talking to go ask if he "can be seen for drop-off." I was then offered Thursday. Still over 24hrs. Again, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea in a puppy! I then ask for Katie who is the Practice Manager. After quite a long hold, I am told she is in a meeting. I pay $80 per month for both of my pets health plans through this clinic. I rarely need to bring them in. And this is the service I get when my pet is sick ONCE AGAIN. Very disappointing!! As a Practice Manager myself, my employees would never be permitted to treat our patients this way. read more

We have been with this practice for 3-4ish years. We are now leaving due to the poor customer service, poor communication between Vets and owners and disregard for proper medical procedures. This place was awesome when they first opened. The vets really got to know you and your pet. As they have grown it is clear that the "turn and burn" "all about money" is the driving force. Our dog has had numerous procedures that always end with another add on service or poor post-op instructions leading to yet another visit where you're lucky if you talk to a vet. Just a confused or frazzled tech or front desk that are doing the best the can to support a clinic that is too busy and has no regard for communication or quality service. I am very bummed to have to leave this review. Always give small business the benefit of the doubt but go somewhere else. read more

I am forever grateful for the vets and staff at lakeshore vet. I had many frequent visits with our dog gunner over last two years from antibiotics resistance ear infection to completely tearing his CCL and on going allergic. I'm always met with a smile and compassion by everyone there. As someone who use to work at a vet, it's not for the faint heart. I held my dying, mauled dog outside their clinic when it opened and they looked at me through the window and told me they would not help. I understand patients are a priority but there was no one there and my dog almost didn't make it. Shame on the secretary if it was her call. I don't know how you call yourself a vet and refuse to help a dying animal right at your doorstep. Shame on you. I had an old dog who was our world, he suffered the last year of his life in the most unnecessary way. We did our very best with what we knew at the time on how to feed a dog with liver disease, although I do put blame on myself for being uneducated in the ways of the pet food industry. I sincerely believe I could have changed the outcome of the end of his life - but it was just too late. It was so very heart breaking; watching his struggles of his last year of his life. What I do want to express is - I did what I was told by my veterinarian, Dr. Stiehl - to have my dog eat Royal Canin "hepatic" food. It was explicitly told to me by Dr. Stiehl, this was the ONLY thing I should be feeding my dog because of his liver disease. She said, "dogs won't starve themselves like a cat would" - he will eat it if he's hungry. WRONG. He only ate it for a few days, maybe a week, but then as time went on, we stood by and watched him stare at his dog dish in disgust. It wasn't that he wasn't hungry - HE WAS! He would eat but only if I added something to it. I began to panic because I did not want to harm him anymore that he already was. I really didn't know what to do. What could I do? I, myself, have been brain washed that he could only eat this disgusting, bland food. I made a few attempts to try and call Dr. Stiehl for more advise. I went ignored a couple of times but finally, I got in a few conversations with her. Dr. Stiehl explained to me again my dog's liver cannot process proteins. She said, again, this is the only food he could eat - she went on and on without any other options. NOTHING. After more time went by, I called her back again telling her my dog hated this food, would not eat it and I needed her to tell me what to. I told her I will buy and cook anything to help him eat. After about the 3rd time of trying to reach out to her, she finally broke down and told me some actual REAL food that I could prepare for him - finally! This was like unlocking some gigantic guarded secret. She explained that if she tells pet parents about this they will overdo it and that is why she didn't recommend it!!! What am I some idiot? Is it for her to decide that I can't understand or follow simple instructions? Ridiculous! Anyway, since her food advice was so sparingly given, I also started to do some reading myself online. He was eating!!! But unfortunately, it was too late. I learned too late to spare our dog a terrible ending. What I began to realize is processed dog food is GARBAGE and it can lead to a myriad of health issues including - organ damage. This is what happened to him. He was too far gone in his illness now - we had to come to terms with this and had to make the decision to put him down to spare him anymore discomfort. In his last few weeks, we even went as far a building him a wheel chair because he could no longer walk. That wheel chair gave him the last bit of joy - he didn't want to give up - he was a fighter. He raced around in it with tail wagging - for the last time - he was amazing to his very last breadth. What have I learned? I am learning to heal through educating myself. I'm dumping these vets who are schooled by institutions that run the dog food industry. Food that is overprocessed junk. Next mission is to find a holistic veterinarian that will assist me with preparing a whole food nutritious diet for the next dog I get. "The Forever Dog" is a book I purchased and it is helping me learn and understand that dogs can eat - almost - all of what humans can eat. Meaning, foods that are whole and natural (prepared correctly and given in the correct ratios). This is the only choice for them to live a long and healthy life. Ditch this terrible pet food market (watch Pet Fooled on Youtube for free - by the authors of "The Forever Dog"). These veterinarians you bring your pets to do not know it all, especially, when it comes to nutrition. Their training is failing pet owners/parents/guardians and robbing pets to live their best life. Amazing care for their patients! A few years ago, I had (2) dogs pass away after dental procedures at another clinic. The first time, I had suspicions but realized these things happen. Then it occurred again. After this, I was very careful about who I trusted with my puppies.......I began with this practice when one of my dogs was only 12 weeks old, and they took excellent care of him. Two years later, I have two dogs with this practice and they recently did dental procures on my dogs - it went wonderfully with no complications, my dogs were up and "at em" the very next day.....they really care about the animals and are very skilled caring for them.......my dog actually wags his tail when we pull up to the practice ;) read more

Plus, having a vet office that is open on Sundays is a wonderful perk. Our pets have seen all three vets, and each one is caring, knowledgeable, and friendly. Dr. Ashley and his staff are amazing. They treat my dog like a member of the family, and always show me respect and courtesy. Dr. Ashley is Virginia Tech trained, and while its clear to me that he's an excellent clinician, what makes him stand out is how he loves his patients and how they love him back. He adds special touches to the practice, such as comfort towels for feline patients, and he takes time to really get to know his clients. He listens to my concerns, answers my questions, and really understands my dog in a way that reassures me that my dog is in good hands. On the occasion that we've had an urgent issue, his staff has managed to have my dog seen that day, and the fact that they're open weekends is very helpful. If you're seeking an honest, compassionate, knowledgable vet, Dr. Ashley is the best one around. read more

After writing the 1st review, they sent a letter informing me that they will no longer serve me, which was comical at best since I was never returning. They also said I raised my tone in the letter, but so did the Dr. They lied about the laws in Maryland and tried to cover that up. They could have simply said it is policy instead of LYING to me. They cannot deal with intelligent clients. They want to feel like they are above you, belittling you to make themselves feel better! After reviewing the letter, they also are incorrect on food given and times per day. Please know that this is in addition to a form filled out prior to visit and also spoken to staff. They also had a rebuttal on here trying to explain away the issues. They are unreasonable- HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED Padding bills is a common issue since a long term client complained about the same items in the parking lot. If you are looking for a great Repro Vet- COUNTRY COMPANION IS FANTASTIC! BTW they did not explain services at the time of service- however in their letter they did, still unacceptable- questioning the integrity of a client is NEVER good customer service! Dr. Ashley and the Lake Shore Pet Hospital do not care for their animals as a vet should. I have a dog who is senior and I paid for their Preventative Plan for two years; but decided to stop as of June of this year. I received a certified mail letter, a week later, that Dr. Ashley no longer wanted to take care of my senior dog and my younger dog. Money is all they care about. My senior dog had cancer and requires medical care every 3 months. Dr. Ashley does not care what happens to my senior dog. Dr. Ashley saw my younger dog for her physical and did not even put his hands on her to search for lumps and/or bumps. He did not check her ears and only listened to her heart. What kind of physical is that? He replied to me after I voiced my concern, that "he was off that day". My senior dog had a recent dental cleaning and was not doing well after the procedure. I was informed of the problems and was lead to believe that my dog may not make it. Of course, I was not happy and wanted to be with my dog. Dr. Ashley called me rude to his staff. I'm sorry, my dog is not doing well and came in that morning just fine and I am supposed to be happy with hearing my dog is not doing good. I don't think so. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO DR. ASHLEY OR ANYONE AT THE LAKE SHORE PET HOSPITAL. THEY WILL BE NICE TO YOU TO SIGN UP FOR THEIR PREVENTATIVE PROGRAM; BUT ONCE YOU CANCEL, THEY WILL SEND YOU A CERTIFIED LETTER AND TELL YOU THEY NO LONGER WANT YOUR BUSINESS. THEY ONLY CARE FOR THE MONEY AND NOT YOUR PETS. THEY DON'T DESERVE ANY STARS, THEY ARE THAT BAD. read more

I am very disappointed with the quality of care this vet offers. COVID is now in the endemic stage and vet still requires dogs to be seen on a hot sidewalk with other animals and people around them. This cannot be SOP for a veterinarian practice that offers SAFE and QUALITY care. I scheduled an appointment for my dog, the receptionists are absolutely untrained. They called 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment and asked me all of the questions that were on the questionnaire. We were not called to be "seen" until after 30 minutes after the appointment time. When I called to complain, I was told there were two euthanasia procedures that were conducted and that we were told that. NO, we weren't because we wouldn't have complained. I have received heart worm preventative that was for a dog double my dog's size. When I asked them about their error, they brushed it off. Don't sign up for the preventative plan as that locks you in for one year and then you don't have the ability to switch vets without losing hundreds of dollars. I also left a message for the practice manger or vet to discuss my concerns before writing this complaint online. It has been 10 days and I am still waiting for the phone call. read more

Do not use this vet. When I moved here, I was happy that I found a good vet who spent a lot of time with my dog. However, when my dog was sick they didn't have any appointments. WTH? It doesn't matter how good you are with routine care, if you can't make time to see a sick pet, who needs you? The front desk is staffed with total incompetents. It seems like their friends or family of the vet. They are unorganized, you have to constantly question them because they are never forthcoming with anything helpful. Horrible. Dr Ashley has been caring for our Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky for a couple of years. They have seen Dr. Ashley, Dr. Anderson and recently Dr. Stiehl. Dr. Stiehl is a tremendous addition to an already caring team. I trust very few people when it comes to caring for our 4 legged family members. I'm sure I was a PITA with all my questions but everyone was kind and patient. This animal hospital is amazing. I'm a single mom on disability and a limited income. Hannah's regular vet was good but very expensive. Recently when my girl wasn't feeling good I was afraid she was going to die because I couldn't afford to take her to her vet. But a dear friend told me about Lake Shore Pet Hospital and they got me in right away and took really good care of my baby girl. They also put me on a Wellness Plan where I pay a small amount each month and her office visits, blood work & vaccinations are now covered. They have different plans to suit your dogs needs. Dr. Trevor Ashley is a wonderful doctor. Very caring and straightforward. The office staff was FANTASTIC. They were all very nice & so sweet. The office is clean & really nice.
