I'm a water baby so you know I'm about it. One weekend, I took a weekend trip to Austin and hit up Lake Travis with a group. We rented out a boat and enjoyed a couple of hours of fun in the sun. Our captain was a teenager but he was awesome. Friendly and not uptight. At a certain point, we roped off a bunch of boats and it became a party with people joining other boats. Pretty awesome. Not sure if this is a regular thing as it was my first time but it was fun. The boat was clean and they had this pad thing where you can lay out on the water. That was fun too. I'm knocking off a star because there was only a small bathroom where we checked in for a large crowd of people which led to a long line. Since I'm extremely intelligent, I decided to take care of business in the water. Unfortunately, there were jagged rocks in the water and I cut my feet up pretty good. Next time, I need to bring water shoes. Lesson learned. The water is blue, the backdrop is nice, and there's a lot of fun to be had on Lake Travis!

We came here on a bachelorette and was a totally vibe on a Saturday afternoon. Not pictured is the boats tied to other boats and was total rager, not exactly sure what part of the Lake this was but somewhat near a bridge.

A must-see if you're in Austin! So much to do here at Lake Travis from boat tours to jet-skiing. Plenty of options for boat tours. We did the Riviera Marina on a 4 hours tour across the lake. Hippie Hollow Park also overlooks the lake or if you just want to take a walk and check out the sceneries. A beautiful lake especially on a nice day with clear blue skies. One of my favorite spots in Austin. Perfect for a summer road trip with friends and family. A definite bookmark for your Austin trip!

Lake Travis is just about my favorite place in the whole world. When I'm here I feel like I've escaped from the pace and worries of everyday life. From watching the sunset to floating in the water and drinking beer I can never think of a better way to spend the day. If you like to party like a rock star you can go to devils cove and park with tons of other boaters out looking to party like crazy animals. Its sometimes crowded at the cover but its always very wild. If you want a quiet day of floating and swimming Arkansas Bend is always fun for chillin and relaxing. Float away your troubles and drink more beer than you should and just bask in the glory of the lake. If you feel like some insane cliff diving then a quick dash over to Pace Bend to jump off pale face might be in store. That is if you can work up the courage to the leap off this insanely high cliff. No matter how you like your lake experience Lake Travis has it all.. from shots and food at the Gnarly Gar to relaxing in an abandoned cove I cant say enough good things about Lake Travis.

As of today, April 13, 2016 Lake Travis is absolutely 100% full (and has been for the past week)!!! Compared to 1 year ago to the date, when the area was still in a drought, the water level was at a mere 36.4% (waterdatafortexas.org). This influx is great news for all Austinites, and especially for those who live near it! As summer is about to hit, I am so looking forward to enjoying all that "lake life" has to offer, including water sports and getting to use the kayak and SUP my husband and I now own. Heck, we're even in the market for a sailboat (tuna salad wishes and caviar dreams). ;) Embarking in a nice weekend sail, enjoying a little catch and release, taking a dip on a warm day, or even making the short trek to Hippie Hollow to get much closer to nature (wink; the locals know) are reasons enough to have a deep appreciation for Lake Travis. There are also several options for lake front dining (most are meh, but go for the views) that add to the attraction; there is even a craft brewery now that overlooks Lake Travis (the decks at Oasis Texas Brewing Company are unparalleled)! The Western sunsets are stunning year round. And the people...people who live in the area just seem a little bit more laid back, friendly, and a have their own smallish culture so-to-speak. I guess it comes with the territory - both literally and figuratively. ;) Hanging out on/around the lake is kind of like being on a mini vaca every day. Lake Travis is not only a great place to come and play, but also a great place to stay. When relocating to Austin, my husband and I looked Central, North, South, West, and East when trying to decide where to buy our new home. At first we were really leaning towards someplace more central, but the more we spent time in the Hill Country and on Lake Travis and looked at the many homes that feature Spanish Mediterranean architecture, complete with tons of palm trees and all, we came to the conclusion that we were "lake people" and the beauty far outweighed distance from DT. After all, it's only a 20-25 minute drive (without the famous Austin traffic, of course) when we choose to visit a specific restaurant, attend an event, or go all out rock star style (we just get a hotel room). The only downside (if you can call it that) is in the spring and summer when all the "terrorists" (aka tourists) invade all of the Lake resorts, B&Bs, and area hotels and the "traffic" gets worse. But hey, just like the thousands that visit DT for SXSW and ACL annually, we get the chance to meet some interesting people from all over - albeit they are most likely a little bit more "acoustic" than "EDM." :-)

I'm openly biased, because I'm lucky to live out here for the moment. This is one beautiful lake, now that the once-in-a-century rains have refilled it. Beautiful morning fog, glorious sunsets, decent fishing, and a myriad of choices in which to enjoy it: hiking, dining at an elegant restaurant, party boat fishing...what's not to like?
