What a beautiful new library! Stunning green space surrounding the library. This was my first time visiting the new location. Many years ago, I was a regular attender of the old location. I was so pleasantly surprised to see such a remarkable upgrade. We met friends here for a playdate and just so happened to come on family bingo day. Our kids had a blast playing. The facility was very clean, the staff was helpful in directing me and very welcoming and overall, we had a great experience. read more

Moved to the area several years ago and love this library. The new books section in the front is always my lst stop and I am amazed at the selection of new books. Being a nonfiction reader primarily, I am very impressed and especially pleased that the month and date of the new books are easily visible on the cover. When I need help finding a book, the staff are always accommodating and often take me to the area to find the book. Being older, viewing the bottom shelf of book racks is difficult to view. I know even when I was more agile, I would usually stick to browsing the shelves that are more visually accessible. I would like to see some rolling seats that are easily available to be able to sit and browse the bottom row or two. It may seem like a luxury, but not to those of us who can no longer bend or sit on the floor (and get back up). The library is a wonderful asset to Lake Villa and Lindenhurst. Keep up the good work and I am anxious to see the development of the outdoor area. read more

The grounds are beautiful and the staff knowledgeable and friendly but when I ask my husband to join me there with his laptop, he refuses because he says their WiFi is compromised. read more

We are in the process of a major home redecorating project with focus on creating an mid 18th century home theme. Part of the effort requires doing research on 18th century interior design. So in doing so I needed to find a variety of books covering this particular era. So I went to the Lake Villa Library and to their reference desk and got assistance from Rob. I told Rob what I was looking for and he promptly found a book for me and then guided me over to all the home decorating books and helped me find some books to consider. Finishing up I started leaving. As I was walking by the reference desk Rob calls me over. He tells me he found several more books to consider in the database and begins sharing titles and subject content from each book. I am immediately impressed. He suggests two more books for me to consider and I select one of the two. Rob has exceeded my expectations. I walk away more then satisfied, our 18th century home project has advanced to the next stage. Rob, thanks again for a great effort! read more

Beautiful library. But the librarians are rude. My grandmother forgot to turn off her phone, which yes I know is rude in a library. But the librarian had the nerve to scream at her to turn it off as if the group of librarians weren't being disruptive to those reading/studying with their concert level talking and laughter. Practice what you preach and gain some professionalism. read more

This library is beautiful, nice and peaceful study area with a nice view and extremely nice staff. They offer so many services too like hotspots for wifi and iPads. My boyfriend's laptop wouldn't connect to the wifi so they even let us check one of their laptops out with his ID. I was able to reserve a study room for a job interview which was so nice even though I didn't have a lake villa district ID (from out of state). I can easily kill a day here with how nice it is! read more

I have always loved this library. They have always been very helpful. They have a multitude of programs. If they don't have it they get it from another library. Great place to use. However, when I go into the new library it feels very cold. I am not into industrial looking buildings. I would like something more cozy. read more

Lake Villa library has an amazing collection. My only qualm: for a library, a stereotypically hush-hush kind of place, the librarians talk really loud. It's jarring at first. Seriously, i go up to ask a question in a mouse-like decibel and then here comes this normal response. And the oppressive weight of silence lifts and I get my materials. There are convenient check-out points if standing in line gets your goat and did I mention their expansive collection? Check it out. DVDs galore. read more

I'm a fan! They are good at what they do, they have books, dvds, videos, video games, cds and more! My least favorite thing is the new shelving they have added, it is metal and ugly. For me the noise issue is from the kids that run through the library. There are private rooms you can book for meetings or study sessions. I also have always found the librarians very helpful. They have always had a smile and a knowledgeable answer for me. read more

I find it weird reviewing a library, but hey, here's to trying new things. I have been to 100s of library's and for a public one, Lake Villa has a beautiful building with large collection of multimedia. Friendly staff is the key but don't forget your card! Wifi as mentioned, huge selection of movies and yes, even books. read more

I love this library because they have an abundance of large print books for people like me who need it. Also they are very up to date on these books. This is as good as it gets. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. The place is just immaculate, clean as a whistle. Wifi or computers to use. DVDs and VHS tapes to rent, including newer releases. Various mewspapers, magazines, CD;s. Oh, they even have books!! Remember those? read more

I have been a fan of LVPL since 1993! I have watched the music change from records to cassettes to cd's to online downloads. The books are plentiful, the media is in multiple forms, and the online control for your account is peerless. I have been reserving movies music and graphic novels for almost 2 decades. I stopped renting dvd's years ago. Their audio books are plentiful and now you can even reserve and check out a NOOK. I go a least once a week if not more... Lake Villa Public Library is my home away from home. I love this place; the staff; the selection of books, movies, music, and more; the events, and their growing online selection. If you cannot tell, already, I'm a library "junkie." I have visited many of the libraries in Northern Illinois and other parts of the country. Admittedly, some are better funded (i.e. Northbrook and Schaumburg), but LVPL is top-notch, and does a wonderful job with their budget. In addition to their stacks, LVPL offers a growing number of services for electronic lending. My favorite is Overdrive. I generally have at least one audio book loaded onto my phone and one or two books on my Kindle. The list of books being offered is constantly growing. One time, I sent an email asking why certain books and audio books were not in the Overdrive collection. Rather than a simple explanation, the response to my email indicated that they had acquired all of the items I had mentioned! I was thrilled! Still, don't let electronic lending keep you away from the building. It is fun to browse the shelves. Sometimes you come across something you would otherwise have never picked up. I have also popped in on a Sunday afternoon and heard music or laughter in the large meeting room, only to find out there was a wonderful speaker or performer. I have also grown to know many on staff, and we catch up on my visits. LVPL is part of the North Suburban Library System (NSLS), and readily share books via inter-library loans. But on the downside, holds can sometimes take an inordinately long amount of time. This is due to a lack of funding for transporting items between libraries. If an item is in the LVPL collection, you are put in line for that item. They will only order from another library if it is not in the LVPL collection. BOTTOM LINE: Pros - Wonderful collection, courteous and friendly staff, convenient, grace periods for checkouts (including movies!), great events. Member of NSLS. Free WiFi. Cons - A little on the noisy side, at times. Long hold times because of reduced inter-library loans. WiFi service is not always adequate. Two thumbs way up!! read more

My daughter and I absolutely love this library. We come here for the books, dvds, and events for children. The staff is always very helpful and friendly, and we feel welcomed every time we are there. I love that they have adult classes too! read more

The reference desk is great but the check out ladies are very unfriendly and not at all helpful. We try not to use them but when checking out newer DVDs you have to go through them. Too bad, we would probably use the library more if we felt welcomed. read more

I had an interesting experience today. I was searching for the grinch DVD in the children's section and asked an employee wearing a green plaid scarf if she knew where I could find it. She replied in a loud voice Suess, I said oh okay Dr. Suess and she responded with not Dr. Just Suess. Okay... Thank you. She proceeded to grab it then noticed about ten dvds strewn across a shelve. She loudly announced This is unacceptable! I don't care who you are it's comepletely unacceptable! Then hurried away into a back room. I'm not sure if it was for my Benifit or another parents because it certainly wasn't me or my 3 children. I was suprised and said nothing in response. Regardless, maybe another area of the library would suit her. Sometimes children do make messes. I would have been kind and assisted her, I would like to think it was just an exceptionally bad day, unfortunately I was holding an infant at the time. She spent under 10 seconds adjusting them. More patience with small children and parents (especially parents of small children with disabilities) should probably be a requirement in the children's section. read more

BEST library I've ever experienced. Being prior service, that's saying in the entire United States, this is the BEST library!

Tried three times to check out books there with 7 year out son. We live in Lake Villa, but our address is part of Antioch Library system. He got a Antioch library card and we went back. They would not let him register without having mail with an address to show residency after getting new library. Staff is very unfriendly and rude. They put up signs trying to get people come in, but they don't make them feel welcome or check out books once someone is inside. With the world turning digitial (this is a dying model), one would think the customer service would be better, but not with this team. read more
