Superior Glass & Mirror - Damage to finished drywall

    Superior Glass & Mirror

    (5 reviews)

We do not recommend using Superior Glass & Mirror…read more I'll preface this by saying it takes exceptionally poor service for me to take the time to write a negative review, but this experience warranted it. Kurt at Superior Glass & Mirror installed two large mirrors in our basement home gym. The installation went fine, although in hindsight, it would have been nice to have been given options that didn't require permanently gluing the mirrors to the drywall. We are currently selling our home and moving, so we contacted Kurt to remove the mirrors so we could take them with us. Before the appointment, we specifically asked if they could be removed without damaging the wall. He said, "No," but we assumed that meant some damage was unavoidable and that he would still use a professional method to minimize it. Lesson learned. Kurt charged us $150 for approximately five minutes of work, which consisted of attaching a suction cup to each mirror and literally ripping it off the wall. The drywall was pulled away from the studs, large sections of the wall were damaged, and the backs of the mirrors were left a mess. To add insult to injury, after removing the mirrors, he asked us if we were "good to take off the metal strip" that he had originally installed rather than removing it himself as part of the job. Afterward, we researched the process and consulted other mirror removal companies. We learned that methods such as wire or shims can be used to separate glued mirrors from drywall while attempting to minimize damage. Instead, we paid $150 for someone to yank them off the wall--something we could have easily done ourselves. This is especially frustrating because we are in the middle of selling our home and having potential buyers come through for showings. The last thing we needed was a severely damaged wall that now has to be repaired ASAP. When we expressed our concerns, Kurt told us, "The drywall can simply be re-screwed when you're doing the patching," "It's not a big project," and "That's the way mirror gets professionally removed." Please look at the pictures provided and decide for yourself: Is this the kind of "professional" work you would pay $150 for?
