This hospital is, if not the most cruel hospital in all of Ontario. For nearly 10 years, this hospital has neglected my mom who had a gallbladder that was filled TO THE BRIM with gallstones and only recently removed it after she had severe gallbladder attacks almost daily. If you or your loved ones are being directed to this place, request to go to literally any other hospital but this one. They genuinely don't care much for the health of their patients, they just want all of the money they can get from you constantly visiting them until you're literally close to death. They can genuinely do better, not only as a place that is supposed to practise medicine, but as a place that should value human life and keep their patients well and healthy. read more

My friends and I came here from Toronto to visit a mutual friend that suffered and is recovering from a stroke. We arrived at the Nurse's Station on the fifth floor after spotting a red, black and white quarantine warning sign posted at the doorway to our friend's room. Seems our friend caught COVID while staying here! We could only enter the room if we suited up with a full gown and medical coverings. Additionally, no hospital personnel proactively contacted the patient's family of this situation. Hospital staff kept answering our questions by responding "I don't know, I just began my shift." These hospital nurses are awful, lots of us who live in Port Perry area all know this is your last choice to go to, we all say do not wait too long try to make it to Uxbridge or Markham/Souffiville. Read other complaints we're not the only ones. As we arrived the other day with health issues. The triage nurse was soooo unbelievable rude, she was ignoring everyone, sitting on phone. Then another nurse came out to call in someone, I said excuse me is it ok.... she cut me off and said just wait! Each nurse we saw was as rude or more rude than the triage nurse. Even the young one was clearly learning their culture. Completely unprofessional! Not just behaviours of the nurses are a concern with this hospital the treatment is questionable: They sent my son home with a fractured arm when he was 2, saying it will heel, as he kept complaining and holding his arm we went to our Toronto Dr. He said you shouldn't leave a fracture on a child who can not let it set as they're active and may make it worse, he sent us to North York General to put cast on. They also told my Father his colonoscopy was normal, he found out later in Toronto (again Toronto), it was not and something was missed, they operated. I know they've had issues after surgeries as well from friends of mine. Stories keep coming, don't go here unless it's a simple fix and absolute LAST RESORT and be prepared to be treated awful. To the miserable nurses: If you;re that unhappy retire or quit DO NOT WORK WITH PEOPLE! You're not making CEO money, you can go work in a warehouse somewhere and have no communication with anyone (customers/patients). Try Amazon warehouse or an assembly line somewhere. To the management: Address complaints! There's no way that the neighbouring hospital is so unbelievably different and nicer! That's on managements hands, fear of of addressing or the union! This is against the law. My form lacks the signature of a rights advisor that I have yet to meet. I am on form three and am being kept in a facility for longer than first proposed. I do not get to see a doctor during these days. I am unable to properly care for myself. My hair is visibly locking to my scalp. The showers are beyond cold. Unsuitable for any regular civilian. I am unable to pay my bills. Unable to leave in the event of a fire. Maya the social worker proposed I should be here for 1-2 more days. Doctor said he has to put me on new form because he will be on leave. I am unable to speak to the doctor. Unable to pay my credit card bill or attend school or swimming or gym or French lessons. This is the worst hospital. Took more than 5 hours to see a doctor, actually still waiting here to see one. Triage or the lack there of needs help determining who needs to be seen first. If you are having a heart attack or chest pains, don't come here. You will not be taken seriously. I will drive 2 hours to get to a more efficient and well equipped hospital. They treat patients like animals. Doug Ford needs to pay them more maybe then we can get some help and be seen by a doctor. As I lay here at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital, I am so grateful . From the moment I walked into this hospital I have been treated so incredibly well. From admitting to the pre op staff, to the operating team ( thank you Dr Mathur) to post op recovery . Now I'm on the 6th floor and I have met the most supportive nursing team. Jenna, Alissa, Maya, Roya thank you ... each and everyone of you are such a blessing. You are amazing nurses and I am grateful. Compassionate, funny, Alissa, your giggle is sweet. And yes, you emptied my catheter without waking me lol lol lol . Jenna and Roya, so professional and extremely knowledgeable and warm. LOH should be proud to have you all as part of their team. Lakeridge Health's treatment of mental health patients, specifically CHILDREN, is astounding. I was admitted to their Child and Adolescent Inpatient unit multiple times in my early teens for suicide attempts (at this point diagnosed with PTSD among other things). The way the staff handled me on my last admission was VILE. I was being abused every day by my family, and went to the hospital after yet another suicide attempt. This was probably about a month after my last admission to the unit. The staff member (I believe her name was Megan) who spoke with me in the ER was so cruel and invalidating. She said to me things like "You didn't even try to get better." and "That's your reason for attempting suicide?" and "We can't help you here." She refused to admit me to the unit or provide me with any supports. I was turned away and continued to be abused by my family, eventually developing CPTSD and BPD. I never went back to seek help after last experience, even during crisis, I decided I'd rather die than be told I'm not trying. Thanks, Megan! Thanks, Lakeridge! NOT. read more

Where do I start! Just recently in the early days of the month of August I brought my daughter to the ER at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa. She was having unexplained stomach pains, and in result it ended up to be a raptured appendix. After hours of waiting, she was seen by the doctor, and at the time my daughter's conditioning was worsting. An ultrasound was performed. During the ultrasound while my wife sitting beside my daughter at the time, when inappropriate comments were made by the ultra sound technician imply that she was a bad mother. " How could you wait this long" This is a form of violation performed by the technician a conduct within the hospital practice's to make these comments). It made my wife feel awful. She also implied that in your in for the long haul of post treatment. "What does this mean and why would the technician say this and made my wife concern of perhaps of another issue without consultation from the doctor. This was very unprofessional and therefor this review should be addressed with all ultrasound technician. Please be more professional. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. They messed up my 75 year old mother-in-law's arm. She had a nasty fall and ended up breaking her upper arm (humerus) by the shoulder and sustained a nasty laceration to the back of her calf the Thursday before thanksgiving weekend. She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance where it was determined she broke her upper arm (humerus). The emerge doctor said she didn't need surgery and sent her home in a sling with Tylenol 3s and instructions to contact the fracture clinic. She couldn't get into the fracture clinic for a whole week because the emergency doctor never sent her file to the fracture clinic so this set her healing back by a week. The orthopaedic surgeon at the fracture clinic couldn't figure out why the emergency department didn't phone them the night she broke it because they were there that day on site. The fracture clinic then determines that she doesn't need surgery and that they would use the weight of her arm in a sling to set the bone so the two ends could heal in the correct position. Intermittently they took X-rays and kept saying that it was healing in the right position and cleared her physio. 11 weeks after the break my mother-in-law could barely use her arm, was still in a lot of pain and could only sleep upright in a chair as sleeping in a bed caused her severe pain. She went back to the emergency and after X-rays were taken it turns out the two bones did not heal in the correct position and that she needs emergency surgery to correct it. After 11 weeks of enduring pain and of being told that her arm was healing correctly, she had to have the arm operated on and plates and pins inserted to hold it in the correct position. She is back to square one now. They should have operated from day 1 when she first broke it. At 75 prior to this injury my mother-in-law was incredibly active and now this has set her back significantly. I suggest you get yourself to another hospital like Bowmanville. There is a reason why lakeridge health gets bad reviews. the emergency room is also incredibly dirty. they don't clean in between patients. read more

Admitted myself into emerg for mental health anxiety and panic attacks. Was first put on a seperate psychiatric floor then moved to c4. Had a rude nurse that just brough a food tray and took my blood pressure. I asked her if i could smoke outside she said " absolutely noy" and asked if i wanted a nicotine patch... i said " yes" quietly. She backed away and demanded i answer her nicely and be respectful. She went further on and brought me to tears. I talkedcto my husband on my cell phine, she brought security and a msle nurse with her and was shouted to get back in my room. The hospital security guard falsely identified himself as a police officer. Ii tokd them to stop being so agressive so the male nurse said " you just lost your phone privrleges" so he went to grab it and i put it down my pants. He shoved his hands down my pants and grabbed it hard. They then locked me up in the PICU for 2 days before i saw s psychiatrist who let me go right away. The male nurse then taunted me sayung " i bet you dont have any friends bitch". I have called DRPS and lodging a formal complaint to their head division. If you have mental health issues, i guarantee you will want to take your own life in there read more

Just escorted out for wearing the shield the hospital gave me in September. Have visited every day and had no issues till today. Today in palliative care unit 4F it is unacceptable, so had to leave my 95 year old mother and be escorted out by security. Avoid this hospital if u can! Before today, the nurses were AMAZINGLY kind! My mom went in - after brain surgery - experiencing uncontrollable repetitive movements. While they helped her with this within the first couple of days by increasing the steroid medication (that decreased the swelling of her brain), they left her with - 1. a UTI from a catheter of which three separate nurses questioned the purpose 2. the inability to urinate on her own because of the catheter 3. weakness and the increased potential for blood clots because they didn't provide the appropriate amount of physiotherapy (once a day would have been nice). Due to these complications, she was in the hospital for three weeks (instead of 3 days) and grew increasingly weak and confused. It was only when I insisted she be released that we broke her the hell out of there. They improperly inserted a catheter into her, without lubrication, woke her up at all hours of the night and early morning to perform tests (keep in mind she's already confused due to brain cancer) and wouldn't answer the bell when we called for the nurses (to ask why my mom screamed in pain every time she peed = UTI). When we told her she was finally leaving, she cried in relief. If you love someone, do your best to admit them to any other hospital in the area. read more

Had a to visit oshawa hospital ER via ambulance a few weeks ago. My first ride in an ambulance and the paramedics were amazing. Wisked me away quickly, monitoring me and keeping me calm. The ER nursing was top notch...they were able to get me a bed fairly soon where I was assessed and tests ordered and undertaken quickly. All the while staff were caring and very respectful. Pain was closely monitored and managed. Technicians and orderlies were pleasant and kind. Emergency surgery ordered and carried out within 24 hrs. Surgery floor staff attentive and environment was quiet and clean. I was overwhelmingly pleased with the high level of care I received. During these difficult times I was grateful for the commitment and caring I received. Thank you. read more

I was recently attacked by my girlfriend assaulted me with a deadly weapon a few knives so I was badly cut I called the police to come help me the police came arrested my girlfriend and brought me to the hospital where they proceeded to treat me like I was a criminal and garbage because the police decided to hang around to try and breach me for something I didn't do when my girlfriend came to my place assaulted me and forced her way in when she has mental issues but the police don't care about that or you or your mental state they'd rather see you in prison and in pain while I was still in the hospital bed in agony they forced me up to clean myself up my bloody body that I hurt in every movement to the point where the nurses were rude and expect me to take care of myself which that's a nurse's job so I do not ever want any of these people ever touching me again they do not deserve to touch me nor treat me like garbage and the police proceeded to arrest me and bring me to 17th division where they gave me no clothes at all because I left and nothing because my girlfriend destroyed what I was wearing and they proceeded to arrest me and treat me like garbage from the hospital to the 17th division all the way to Lindsay prison they treated me like garbage let alone I had to fight for my way out of jail when I'm the victim nobody cares I will never go back to Oshawa Lake Ridge hospital again I would rather suffer the agonizing consequences of death never put my life in the hands of those individuals again and recently I went to the Fracture Clinic to get my plastic surgery looked at and the lady treated me like I was a piece of garbage once again didn't want to answer me she was an older lady with dark hair horrible disgusting eyes. Do not go to Lakeridge Health Oshawa for fast health care at Emerg. Through numerous experiences raising a child we have seen any expediency through Emerg steadily decline. On numerous occasions, being seen by Triage first usually happens within 30 minutes and then you really wait. I expect that this hospital brags that they will see patients within 2 hours but that means; 2 hours after Triage you fill out paperwork, 2 hours later you pee in a cup, 2 hours later they will let you through doors to the inner waiting rooms. From there bloodwork within 30 minutes and the Doctor some time after that. If you want urgent care, drive an hour and get that care quicker. read more

But, a well-run organization dersrves praise, and this hospital (formerly known as Oshawa General for those with roots on the East side of the GTA) is exceptionally well-run. Very polite staff, efficiently organized, fairly clear and easy-to-understand layout, and a clean/bright/airy feeling to it. I went to Lakeridge today for day surgery and the staff and volunteers were very proficient and showed a very caring attitude. Everything went well and the instructions given on leaving were very concise.A good experience BUT My complaint was with the washroom that was close to the waiting area for day surgery. Quite honestly it was filthy. Had I encountered this in a restaurant etc I would have left. The floors were grimy and clearly had not had a decent clean in a long time. There were reams of soggy paper on the floor and even the toilet itself was stained and the seat had stale deposits on it. I am sure the cleaners earn a decent hourly wage so why not put some pride in your work. read more

I went by EMS to the place, while extremely sick I was leaning on a Gurney as not to collapse I was thrown out by 2 security guards for doing so. My son has been suffering with terrible stomach pains for months and he was finally scheduled for an ultrasound however hours before his ultrasound the pain became acute. I stupidly told them about the scheduled ultrasound. The nurse actually came out to the waiting room to question why we didn't keep the appointment for the ultrasound so we explained that his pain was acute. They made us feel incredibly not welcome and treated us very badly. So we left and went to different location. read more

Miscommunication. Is the only word. I have. It took two weeks for my husband to get an operation done after they sent him home with a cast on his one good leg. (The other one is amputated below the knee. The kept assuring us that they were in touch with the doctor. The arrangement with transport needed a time for surgery the hospital could not give us one. The dr himself called this morning. He said he was going away. Wanted to know when he could get here. When we got transport we couldn't get in touch with dr.again. To let them know that transport was coming. They even got transport # and yet we had to call them. We had been assured that the Dr. And staff were working together to get him to the hospital. They weren't. Some were very helpful and tried their best. The experience was horrendous. read more

I thought the Brampton Hospital was bad but after visiting Lakeridge Health, I can certainly say that it (Lakeridge) is the worst hospital. I get there are long wait times and that's not the issue. The staff here are beyond RUDE and EXTREMELY disorganized. We waited hours and when I went up to ask about my file, I was told it was inside with the nursing station and not in the waiting room station. I went inside and a very very rude nurse tells me it's not here and I should be asking outside. When I told her the ppl outside sent me in she got upset at me. Until I finally asked how am I supposed to KNOW their process. I'm just following what I'm told. I go out again and they finally say the file IS with them. Ugh! I get they're over worked and I feel bad for them. BUT DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON THE PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILY. Rude and disorganized. Don't go here if you can go elsewhere. GAIN Geriatric Clinical: WRONG DIAGNOSIS!!! Horrific experience!!! Please please go for a second or third opinion as my grandmother has...only to discover she DOES NOT HAVE ALZHEIMERS! Our Story-My 80-year-old grandmother went in for cognitive testing and was given the MOCA tests by a nurse practitioner and a physiotherapist. Was treated disrespectfully by the nurse practitioner and the physiotherapist. Their approach when administering the MOCA test was to use a mocking supercilious smirk!!!! They threatened my grandmother that if she didn't follow their advice they would take away her drivers license!!! Who treats people like this!!!??? Especially seniors!!!! This WRONG diagnosis turned our world and family up side down. It was devastating news but UNTRUE after further testing. Thank God!!! Please beware and go for that second opinion. This hospital gets a zero rating. A doctor working there can do what they want. When they want and nothing happens. Its sad the people of durham have to endure this behaviour from a health professional. They didnt run more than two tests on me and blame old issues. Even though i explained there not the same symptoms. I asked for more tests. Another doctor. And this lady doctor was offended and became abrupt. I was polite and very ill And i hoped more than two tests would be ran. No ultrasound or anything. Go home and see a specialist i was told. I am in pain and at the hospital. Sick and asking for help and i have four bigger secuirty escort me out of the hospital all the while hitting my shoulder pushing me forward as i walk. I asked them to not touch me and they continued to push me. I shrugged my shoulder when they last hit me and i said dont. They jumped me. Beat me and then arrested me for assault. Every avenue is being pursued to get justice for the injustice this doctor started. This doctor is responsible for what transpired that day. Patient care. Ombudsman. CPSO. Lawyer. They have all be contacted. We have a long process ahead. Lakeridge health has no comments at this time to make. They declined the patient experience complaint. And now we're on to the next step. My father had suffered a mild stroke and attended the emergency care. He also has diabetes. He was then placed in a room called the emergency overflow. Being there for the first time visiting this hospital a friendly employee helped us find the room. Most of the staff were friendly. I will give the hospital a 4 for this. However, we waited for 8 hours for him to see a doctor and we were given the run around.....only one doctor ďoing rounds on a Saturday. Also my father suffers from diabetes and the food he was given "a cheese sandwich with white bread, apple juice and small container of applesauce". Apparently, there are no special meals for people with special diets. His sugar was extremely high at the time. The hospital staff were upset as well but the meals were not in there hand to decide or distribute. They said immediate family should bring food for the patient in this case. Therefore the hospital is raising my father's bloodsugar and reducing it at the same time.....I am confused. Also, next to my dad was another patient and the alarm hooked up to him was ringing for a few minutes. The nurses did not respond and I went to the nurses station to inform them. The patient had low blood pressure and a high fever. I am not a doctor but this does not sound good. We left and still my father did not see the doctor to get results of his stroke. We had a horrible experience at this hospital. They have 9 reviews on there site and they are all the same: Admin staff and nurses rude and unfriendly no compassion and empathy. No one smiles and everyone looks pissed off. They only seem happy when they are ordering dinner for themselves. We sat in emergency for 5 hours so we saw alot and then when we did see a doctor he diagnosed us wrong. If your a doctor how do you not know the difference between a fracture and a broken arm. We were told lucky for you it's not broken...In FACT is was broken and my family member needs surgery and 2 pins.. Thank God we got a second opinion. We are outraged with this place. I completely agree with the previous review of this facility. I was on the waiting end while my spouse was having a surgical procedure. I found that they were efficient and quite informative. The patient intake was relatively smoothly albeit lots of waiting at different rooms, but that was to be expected. The nurses were very busy but when you needed help they attended to you as best they can. The waiting area had a patient tracker that gave you a good sense as to when to expect your loved one to get out of surgery. I thought this was a really great way of managing expectations of people waiting for their loved one. The staff were efficient and helpful and the layout of the hospital was bright and clear. The are not a lot of food options but I will take that over knowing that my loved one was being taken care of as best as possible. read more

I put off writing this review until I read other reviews. I was taken to this hospital by ambulance. I was given an X-ray and was told that I had a broken shoulder I and that I would looked after another patient. Being in an ER ; I do understand that dire cases have to be looked after first. After waiting with no interaction from anyone; I asked when I would be taken care of. They couldn't find me. They couldn't find my record. I had an X-ray here ; but they couldn't find me! They found me after awhile and gave me a sling. My knees were skinned and full of dirt. I was released with a sling , no meds and bloody knees. My wife cleaned me up and called for pain killers the next day. Further X-rays revealed that I broke it in 3 places. To make things worse; my wife called the hospital and was told that I was not admitted. She called Bowmanville hospital and I wasn't there either. I texted her where I was. The white sensors from my ambulance ride were still on my legs too. I'm not real impressed. read more

We live in the area and as my husband is a type 1 diabetic on kidney dialysis, this is where we are sent. His kidney disease is hereditary and the dialysis is a complication of the diabetes. On three separate occasions in the past 20 years, the staff has lost him after day surgery, and on two other separate occasions, let him walk out after surgery and get into a cab while still under the influence of anesthetic. He was taken to Lakeridge Health Oshawa 5 days ago with severe vomiting which we could not get under control. He now has pneumonia and peritonitis. His assigned doctor gave me to understand that: 1.. He is medically non compliant and deserves whatever he gets. 2. She does not update family members on the patient and she did not have time to deal with me. If I could give it zero stars I would! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!!! Lakeridge Oshawa has no idea how to care for children. I have taken both my children here in the past couple months and they have both been misdiagnosed. My son initially went in for a broken arm where a temporary cast was put on and an apt to see the fracture specialist the following day to get a proper cast on. Upon looking at the xray by the specialist he said "your arm is definitely broken but I don't think a cast is necessary. Just don't fall for 6 weeks" WHAT 6 YEAR OLD CHILD WILL BE CAREFUL ENOUGH TO NOT FALL FOR 6 WEEKS. We ended up going to Trillium hospital in mississauga (which is where I live, oshawa is close to my parents) and the emergency doctor there said he absolutely needs a cast and had one put in immediately. As for my daughter, she was taken in to Oshawa by ambulance for being extremely lethargic. After only waiting a short time (which was the only good thing) the emergency doctor came in did a super quick exam and said he can't see anything. No test, blood work anything!!!! Went to pediatrician next day to find out she has a horrible ear infection and possible uti. My 80 year old mother was taken by ambulance to this hospital. She spent 3 nights in emerge and treated for dehydration. My big complaint was that we needed her to go home with some planned care due to her decline. After several conversations with doctors and nurses ...all issues fell on blind ears. I was called to say she was discharged with no care in place. When I asked to talk to the discharge nurse the nurse that called was rude and dismissive! Saying she is not getting 24 hour care you know! I said that is fine and still needed to discuss care. 24 hours later I got a call from social worker ... he was excellent! And things went very well after that ...with her home care. My issue was that my mom had experienced the same issue with this one nurse. Telling her she could be in trouble if she does not get out! I found out that after I spoke to this nurse she did not go into my moms room all night other than to ask her.."is your diaper wet". My pour mom was mortified!!! She may not have strength but still does not feel she is a baby ....with a diaper! read more
