2 excellent experiences 1999 and then again 2001 (babies, just in case u didn't get it.....) Excellent staff Great doctors, nurses But Parking prices are ridiculous around here

Emergency services, waited for 2hrs. I asked the nurse what the approximate time I might wait for. Nurse: someone waited for 4 hrs. I was like???? Are you sure this is emergency? I should build myself a tombstone now.

Granted I didn't birth a child here per se (not unlike my Toronto colleague) but I was hands-on throughout my fiancee's pregnancy, labour and delivery, so I feel like I have a leg to stand on here in writing them a glowing review. I knew I wanted to review MSH from the moment we found out we were having a baby. There really isn't a single thing that this hospital does wrong especially when it comes to L&D. We were referred to Dr Lindsay Shirref as our OBGYN by my fiancees GP and we connected with her right away. I'd read that she's a newer doctor (she's younger than a lot of the other OBs in the system) but don't let that turn you off. She was honestly the best. She takes patients on Wednesdays and she's nearly always fully booked so if you go to see her don't be alarmed when you see more of her receptionist and the nurses then you do of her. For most of your appointments, it's a quick check on how baby is doing and you're out. We had a couple of stressful experiences over the course of our pregnancy that Dr. Shirref really handled like a pro and really earned her place in our hearts. The worst one was when we'd been for 2 consecutive appointments and her staff hadn't been able to detect a heartbeat. We were worried, but rather than simply give us an order for an Ultrasound appointment Dr. S walked across the building herself and pushed us to the front of the queue. This was a huge relief for us we were seen right away, despite the crazy line up. And thankfully all was A-OK! The later into our pregnancy we got the more time I noticed Dr. Shirref spent with us, answering questions, taking time to ensure that we were both at ease and always ensuring us that this or that was "totally normal" and she was "very happy with what she was seeing". As a lot of new parents can attest to, sometimes you just need to be reassured on a regular basis that everything is OK. We paid to take the prenatal classes through MSH, they tell you to make sure you take it between week 32-36 weeks, however, make sure you REGISTER for these classes LONG before that as we waited until closer to 32 weeks and by that time everything was nearly booked so we didn't get an optimal class scheduled (two consecutive Saturdays). It's pricey but I felt well informed and prepared (as well as can be) following completing these classes. On to Delivery day! Wow. What an experience. Having a daughter aside, the level of care we received from admission to discharge was unmatched. I won't go into every detail of our L&D experience but a couple of important points for any parents considered what hospital to go with for their pregnancy. 1. unlike many other hospitals, MSH has a dedicated Anesthesiologist (and residents) on hand JUST for L&D. Many hospitals have one shared by all departments of the hospital so when the time comes that you decide you want that hallowed epidural if the Anesthesiologist is elsewhere... you're doing your childbirth "au natural". 2. You get a 5-star suite to deliver your baby in. Which is complete with pretty much anything you might want from stability balls to oversized inflatable device between your legs, to stability bar for your bed to even a tub 3. You get a dedicated nurse at all times. Not a shared nurse, from admission you had a nurse assigned to you until the baby is born. There are literally a thousand great things and conveniences that go along with giving birth at MSH, but with the good comes to bad, and the bad here isn't even all that bad but enough to put down and worth noting for others. 1. Don't expect your ultrasounds to be magical. We had several and there was one lady there who gave the appearance of hating pregnant ladies, wouldn't answer in more than one word and was super cold. I spoke to other parents and apparenty there are a couple of staff that are "real gems" and really take the wind out of your excited sails. 2. During our attempt to discharge from the hospital with baby one of the nurses, the same who had led our discharge class, was really short, snippy and rude when we were asking clarifying questions regarding our car seat. Inferring that we weren't listening or that "it was covered in class so you should know it". I'm sorry my fiancee and I are new to this, so have some empathy, I know you repeat the same instructions day in day out but we're first-timers at this and a little patience would have great. 3. More of a "First world problem" but the postpartum room was a semi-private and we had requested a private but that wasn't available, the downside of this is you're now contending with another person's baby, both of their sleep schedules and their visitors. Don't let my very minor grievances at the end turn you off, the overall experience was amazing, and we'd gladly do it all again here. Thank you to everyone who touched our lives over the last 40 weeks!

I do not like the triage area, there is no privacy to discuss why you are there.

My wait time for emergency was not intolerably long as well as the wait for the doctor within the second area.

In a nutshell: first floor blood work (15 minutes) as I was arriving for my appointment at the 4th floor, lab results had been already pouring in myChart. At exactly the appointment hour a very professional and nice Debbie took me for vitals. Afterwards I was taken to a private room where some time later my images where reviewed by an oncologist surgeon ( Tommy ? ) that works in tandem with Dr Moulton : sharp, nice, warm, very professional and concrete, explains situation in detail and draws outline of lesion, describes next steps vis a vis prognosis. After an acceptable waiting time Dr Moulton appears: bright eyed, wide smile and great attitude, warm and friendly. She goes over my history personal and medical. Ratifies previous assessments and orders MRI imaging for further follow up on the evolution of the lesion with the objective of reducing risk factor . The day after I get a follow up mail from Debby advising me MRI is in the process of being scheduled . This hospital and these reputed professionals are among the best and the logistics, installations and appearance of the hospital are world class. Staff - all around - are nice, helpful and competent people. From the Romanian lady that drew my blood to the door man EVERYBODY was exceptionally cooperative. I honestly feel the complaining customers are either in a bad spot personally or were having a bad day To me me, this visit made my day So, thank you !

It's a beautiful building that's well maintained without the usual strong odors (bodily nor industrial), maybe because there wasn't too many patients nor visitors around. On the main floor next to the west terrace you can find the Max Tannenbaum Sculpture Garden which has 20 vibrantly colored sculptures that depict the human body in graceful yet powerful poses (see my many pictures). There are a couple terraces on the 5th floor as well, one of which has a beautiful view of the Don River. They also have a rooftop garden where you can sit and relax. From this vantage point you can view East Chinatown, Lake Ontario and even the towering buildings of Downtown. It was so quiet that all I could hear was a chorus of chirping crickets, relaxing indeed!. TIPS: -Don't forget to check out the Old Don Jail next door which has been converted and now houses the administrative offices of the hospital. There is a free self guided tour that you can take of the facility. - Have lunch at the park next door. - Visit the Zhong Hua Men Archway (https://www.yelp.com/biz/zhong-hua-men-archway-toronto?hrid=z6XzYjdZols3-WNaFnDjdQ&utm_source=ashare&ref=yelp-android) and East Chinatown which is only a few steps away.

Let me start with my most recent visits for a broken wrist, followed by fracture clinic appts. From the first visit at Emergency to subsequent visits at the fracture clinic, this hospital has been nothing short of outstanding. The staff made me feel cared for and valued. Triage - I am pretty sure that angels work there...Reception - outstanding. Xray dept - outstanding. Fracture doctors - outstanding. Cast staff - outstanding. I want to clarify my initial comment that I was somewhat stunned because I have had enough experiences over the last few years that have been disappointing and deflating. I have felt underserved, uncared for and blown off to some degree. I get it. The medical industry has really been treated harshly over the last few years with judgements about Covid tactics and lack of staff issues. We went from banging pots with thanks to all medical staff, 'our heros', at the start of Covid, to hostility towards the medical industry. If I was in this industry, I would probably feel unappreciated, overworked, frustrated and possibly less likely to be as dedicated to a large amount of negative experiences with upset patients and 'patience'. I avoided getting my wrist seen on the long weekend because I thought I would be at the hospital for a good 10 hours or more with substandard care due to crowded emerg and indifferent staff. I brought a book and expected to make a day of it. I was out within a total of 4 hours! Victoria Day Monday! Don't tell anyone. Stunning! St. Michael's, from the get go, was out of this world. I feel like I should keep it a secret so that they don't get too many people moving to them!!! I have had the privilege of being a patient of Dr. Mahendira, for my arthritis. Her department took the time and care, from start to finish, to attend to me with my issues. Even the waiting rooms are well thought out with televisions to pass the time. Although, rheumatology and fracture clinics are two separate entities of the hospital, my experiences have been, in both areas, completely extraordinary. Bravo to this hospital. I am personally, pretty critical sometimes when it comes to how people are treated in this day and age. I have only praise for the staff at this hospital and the way it is run. Thank you, St. Michael's, for making me feel like my issues are important and that you are listening and also following up with me in a considerate, solution oriented way. St. Michael's is synonymous with excellence. Top notch.
