Lakeshore has saved me many times when looking for a good educational gift for a child. You can pretty much find anything and everything that Melissa & Doug has (have?) ever made here. They also sell kinetic sand, Magna-Tiles, magic water marbles, building blocks, floor puzzles, board games, educational DVDs and CDs ... I could go on, but then this review would just be a list of every cool plaything that's out there. But they don't just sell toys here. This place is also a school supply store and place for teachers to buy items for their classrooms, including banners, posters and things for classroom organization. There's also a space in the back of the store just for laminating. The prices are comparable to other brick-and-mortar stores, and you might be able to find some of their products cheaper online, however, I can't think of a place in the area that has this much selection, where you can actually see the toys and products and -- in many cases -- play with them. Which brings me to another reason why I love Lakeshore: They have stations throughout the store set up with different toys and games for the kids to play with. It's so fun! (Well, it's fun for kids; it's not so fun for the adults who have to pry the kids away from the store.) On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer drop-in art workshops for kids for free. Has all the needs for children ages 6 weeks- 8 years old! NOT JUST FOR teachers! Great sales and coupons constantly. Highly recommend bringing children in as well because usually (not during Covid) there are lots of toys out on display to test out. Prices are worth the quality of items and you can always ask to see in the the physical toy! read more

All I have to say is .29 cents a foot for laminating compared to United Art & Educations $1 per foot charge. It's DIY here but that is fine. Trust me. I know how to save those plastic rolls baby. Yes Lakeshore stuff is expensive. If my school paidI me back for every purchase I would own serious stock in this shop. But hey. The games are great and for the most part some of the stuff is 20% off. I am glad we have one here in Indy. Great selection of learning toys for all ages! Most prices were fair, but some things seemed a little on the high end, like dramatic play costumes. I love their interactive craft area and next time we will plan time to create. The staff was very friendly and if we would have needed help making selections, I'm sure they would have had developmentally appropriate suggestions. read more

I really like coming here to shop for my grandkids. I always feel good about getting them something fun that is also educational. Yes, the prices are more than your local discount store, but their selection is exceptional! Lakeshore brand items are very expensive, even when they are on sale. They aren't my favorite products because it seems like I could find or make similar items for much less. However, the store is easy to navigate and the staff is super duper helpful and friendly. While a small store, they have a lot packed in there but it's still well organized. They don't have as much decor/bulletin board set items as their competitor store as they focus more on active play/art/math/language/science kits and manipulative sets. I am always able to find fun art supply items here that I can't find at other places. They do have a unique selection of games and such but they are just way out of my price range. Luckily, I am allotted some of the school systems tax exempt dollars to spend here so I can get a few new and engaging items for my classroom each year. Be sure to sign up for the Teacher's Club! You get a free tote bag when you sign up in store and fairly decent coupons through email. A nice shop but not one that I frequent. read more
