This is probably the first review since the original owner, Dr Murphy, sold the practice, but the new owners still kept the name. All the other reviews were for the previous Lakeside Dental. I came in for a cleaning. I did not know beforehand which dentist I was going to see because they said the last dentist that saw me was on maternity leave. I had a good experience the last time, so I came back. Doctor Rebecca did my cleaning. I was surprised a dentist was doing my cleaning as usually it is a dental hygienist doing the cleaning. She was not thorough at all. She barely cleaned and just polished. It was the quickest cleaning I've ever had. I figured they were understaffed and cleaning was not really her job. All this time, she was talking about my teeth related to me possibly having sleep problems. (Mmm ok) I just let her talk wishing she was focusing on getting my teeth cleaned instead. I told her about a space in between my molars that bothered me a bit since food gets stuck. The manager was so efficient in giving the breakdown for the filling. I do not have a lot of free time during the day/week so I decided we could proceed with the filling after the cleaning. The cleaning was so quick that we had extra time to do the filling. (One questionable hygienic thing to note for me was that she was using a penlike machine that was leaking and she got the tape of the light to cover the hole in the penlight machine. That's why when I got a sore throat and cough a couple of days after, it crossed my mind it could have been because my mouth was wide open with this - but that was just a thought). Got home, my tooth hurt when I would eat. Called the office and I was scheduled to come back. The first schedule I couldn't make because I wasn't feeling well (sore throat I mentioned). She finally saw me on Tuesday, 10/31/2023. A day that if there was a rewind button, I would just let it be and not come back to this place as I asked for a different dentist to see me to double check and I was told it was only Dr Rebecca who was working. I did see another man in uniform, but I did not bother to ask who he was. I came in and she was nice and apologized. I said it's ok, as long as we fix it. This review is not for her personality but the damage she did to my tooth. I was numb, I did not know the extent of how she was drilling or filing my tooth. It was just a simple filling. I did not know dentists could mess up and drill/file too much due to a filling. I have a toothache now, it hurts when I drink cold or warm, but pain can be fixed. I can find a dentist, spend again to fix what she caused. What cannot be fixed and I am so upset about is the damage to my tooth. She filed my tooth so much there are no ridges. She filed down the center of my tooth smooth in a U more like V-shaped. Every time I touch the molar on my right with my tongue and touch the tooth that she filed/damaged, I get so upset hoping to wake up from a bad dream. It's like a nightmare. I did not want to write this review but I felt I had to. If it can save someone's tooth from being damaged just because of what was supposed to be a simple filling. I called the manager and let him know how I felt to see what he would do about it, and he was very service oriented and tried to do service recovery as best he could. He offered a free cleaning and another dentist to see me. Where was this dentist when I asked when I had to come back a second time? If he was the other man in uniform I saw last time and they said there was no one else other than Dr Rebecca, I would be flabbergasted. If you were me, would you go back or run? Run for sure. I thought it should end there, but the manager is now pressing for me to come back. I let him know that if they want me to come back to see what is left of my tooth, it should be fair terms, and I should get something out of it. It's simply the principle. I lost part of my tooth unnecessarily, why should I have to pay for it. It's like a hairdresser chopping your hair off when you asked for her to style it. Hair can grow back, my tooth cannot. read more

It's been five years since I've been a patient of Dr. Murphy and I still rave about her work and staff. I've also had the pleasure of being seen by her associate, Dr. Ninh. I was skeptical at first but Dr. Ninh is just as delightful and thorough as Dr. Murphy. I've had a bit of work done in these five years but they've made it as painless and pleasant as possible. I tried to go Lakeside Dental to get a teeth cleaning this morning. They tried to charge me additional fees. And when I spoke with them over the phone previously they said that a teeth cleaning will be only $125. But today they tried to charge me Additional fees for x-rays and exams which would have brought it up for an additional $300 or more. So I left. Be cautious with this place because they are not up front with all of there fees. read more

Full disclosure: because of serious prior bad experiences with OTHER dentistds, I am a huge coward in the chair. Getting me in the door takes a minor miracle. HOWEVER, once in the hands of Dr. Murphy and her staff, I've been treated professionally and competently with patience, care, and respect for my history. I booked an appointment with them over the phone about a month ago because the first dentist I tried to contact me wouldn't accept me if I didn't get x-rays. My teeth are perfect and I just get an occasional yearly teeth cleaning just for the hell of it. So I make this perfectly clear over the phone with then that I only wanted the teeth cleaning which they said was fine. It would only be $125. I said great let's do it. So when I finally went to my appointment they again tried to sell me on the x-rays which I refused. Then they said that the only way they would see me there was if I got an examination which works cost an additional $125. I told them that none of this was explained to me over the phone call and that I was canceling my appointment. At which post the heavy set lady with a scowl on her face behind the desk said, "are you kidding me". And I left. Just because I don't like what you are serving doesn't warrant an attitude. Dr. Martha Murphy is the sweetest !! I was very worried about taking my 14 month old son to his first dentist visit . As soon as we got there we were greeted from the receptionist who was sweet and patient and were we then seen by Ashley who first took a look at my son... she was a dolllllll!! She was the sweetest ever ! Of course my 14 month old son doesn't understand the dentist office yet so he was kicking and yelling at the top of his lungs but both of them were just so calm and loving .... super happy with my decision to have dr. I have been using Lakeside Dental services for more than 7 years and I love everything about it. Dr. Murphy is one of the best dentist I've ever had. She really listens and always able to accommodate her patient's need. She would never push any extra services and only suggests what is necessary to keep the best oral health. I had an amazing first visit at Lakeside Dental for a routine checkup. I really liked that I was able to fill out my paperwork with a user-friendly computer. It was also nice getting a call from the office to verify my dental insurance. The dental hygienist asked a lot of good questions before my check up and cleaning. She asked about my brushing habits and routines and asked me if I had pain in any of my teeth. Not only was she able to answer all my questions she was somehow able to NOT cause my mouth to bleed with the cleaning - my gums normally bleed with flossing plus my teeth are very close together. It's clear to me that she has a lot of experience doing what she does (well). The dentist addressed all my concerns with grinding my teeth at night. I didn't feel like she was trying to sell me a mouth guard for the sake of it - she genuinely cared and explained that the mouth guard is more than likely to offer relief. She was very thorough to go through the x-rays from my last dentist plus they asked when those were last taken - this is very important because people shouldn't be bombarded with x-rays more than needed. I walked out happy after my first visit. I was served on time and my mouth felt fresh and clean. I can't find a single thing to complain about. I'll be returning for my 6-month follow up. read more

In the two years that I've been taking my family to Dr. Murphy, it's become clear that the friendliness you experience when you're new isn't just a surface smile - the entire Lakeside Dental team is committed to their relationship with you. If that's not unusual enough, they take your experience and their care to a level that put the practice over the top. Dr. Murphy takes care of my extended family and their friends - a good 25 people or so. All have been happy for many years. Appointment confirmations come by email - very nice. They'll call if they haven't heard from you in a while. When you walk in, they know exactly who you are and are always glad to see you. You never wait more than two or three minutes. The hygienists so are gentle that it feels like they're using a paintbrush instead of that horrid sonic thing (which they are - it just feels less awful). If you'd like, the hygienist will schedule your next cleaning before she steps out to get the dentist. Then comes Dr. Murphy - a truly giving person who is extremely gentle without compromising thoroughness or competence. She's a progressive, proactive practitioner, but not pushy; the choice is always yours, and she respects it. Between family and friends, I've seen her handle children, fillings, crowns and mouth guards with unfailing consistency - and the latest, safest technology. The practice is managed by her husband, and though I don't know who's responsible for the beautiful surroundings, coffee in the lobby, wifi access and other nice-to-haves, it's clear that they have the same vision and work extremely well together. Not all husband and wife teams do. While I'll probably never love cleanings or fillings, there's no one I'd trust more or feel better seeing than the Lakeside Dental team. read more

My job switched dental insurances so I had to find a new dentist in network. I picked Dr. Murphy from the provider list and boy am I glad I did. It was a wonderful first time experience. Everyone from the office manager to the hygenist to Dr. Murphy was very friendly and professional. I have never experienced such thorough dental care in my life. I needed an in-plan dentist when the dentist I had been seeing for 25 years said my new crown would be $1000 out of pocket. I chose Dr. Murphy from the good reviews. BIG MISTAKE! They did a cleaning and tried to tell me that I not only needed the crown but a full re-do on my whole mouth. It would have been hours in the chair and at least the same amount if not more out of pocket by the time she was done. I walked. New dentist close by, confirmed what I knew, teeth were in great shape and did not need any of that work. Along with the hard sell on other services, I don't appreciate being used for my insurance. read more

I moved to the area about three years ago, and I finally decided it was time to find a dentist here instead of driving down to Fredericksburg, VA every six months. I am very picky when it comes to dentists, my previous one was my ex-father-in-law, who is great, and I've worked for him for a while, so I know how dental offices work. I just want to share my experience visiting Lakesides Dental. That was the worst experience that I have ever had. I just wanted my teeth regular cleaning, and also asked SEVERAL TIMES is this service would be covered by my insurance, and help desk stuff said yes. At very beginning they took a lot of xRays, that I probably didn't need it. I was waiting for Dr. Nihn about 40 minutes, even though the office didn't look too busy. Dr pushed me to get service that is not necessary. His recommendations were unprofessional and it seemed like he's not caring about my health, he's caring about getting money. Instead the routine check up and cleaning, they provided the service that is not covered by insurance (he even didn't ask me), and charged me up front despite my multiple notifications that I need ONLY regular preventive care and check-up.
