What a fun little store to peruse and darn near impossible to walk out of empty handed from. Lakeside Emporium covers all of the sweet tastes one could possibly crave or dream about. Hard candies from rock candy to candy necklaces and every brightly packaged, florescent 80's sweet treats I loved as a young boy. A large counter of homemade fudges, brittle's, jellied fruit slices, cookies and chocolates just by sight alone, gets the water works flowing in your mouth. Jelly Beans of every conceivable color and flavor, lollypop's the size of my head. No matter your age, the time warp that hits you, sending you back into your distant memory (depending on your age) to a time and place we all remembered where these treats were enjoyed in our youth. On a recent trip to visit family, they stopped by here for us to shop and it was a PAYDAY. 2 car loads of us piled out and the bewilderment began as we became Kids in the Candy Store and we were ready to SKOR. Their is so much to see here and the prices were great! Every little basket of goodies brought back memories. Our ewes and awes could be heard all over the store. Basket after basket filled up and and as we lined up to pay we shared excitement over observing each others findings. We even tried that Michigan Pot Hole shake. MMMMM. So we had MOUNDS of fun and WHOPPERS of a good time at this BIT OF Heavenly HONEY! Don't let this stop slip thru your BUTTERFINGERS! Remember All we need is Love and a lot of CANDY. read more

This place is amazing. It's in an old gas/service station so it has the funky retro vibe. The choices are great - jelly belly, gummy candy, hard candies, soda, chocolates, etc. Small ice cream and slushie choices too. It reminds me of a Rocket Fizz location but family owned without all the junk. The best part is the service attitude of the staff. They're as friendly and helpful as you can be without being bothersome. read more

I love coming here. I feel like a kid again. There are so many candies to choose from - from gummies to jelly beans to fudge! Plus they serve ice cream! My son always asks for Zapps while my husband has to get their homemade pralines. I personally prefer to feed my inner child with Jelly Belly jelly beans. 6 stars isn't an option? Dang, I'll settle for 5. This is a truly mom and pop type of business and they absolutely go above and beyond for their customers. I've been frequenting the emporium since they were a smaller shop across the street and just this last year, they helped me put together a beautiful candy bar for my wedding...in record time (for less than $80). When I picked my order up...Ma carried the box to my car for me and sent me off with a hug. There is no place better to get your candy fix. It's impossible to leave without a smile. Disney World may be the "happiest place on earth"...but this is a close second. They will always have my business. read more

I love Lakeside Emporium. It has all the old-fashioned candy and sweets plus many new goodies. They hand-make their fudge and all the chocolates. They have a huge selection of gummy candy and jelly bellys. The staff is really friendly and will remember your face and greet you next time you come in. It can get a little busy inside but it just gives you more time to look around at everything they have to offer. I LOVE this place!!! I am a graduate of Booker Institute of Cosmetology, which is a stones' throw away, and I would walk down there quite often to satisfy my sweet tooth!! :) The people that work there are AWESOME! I now live in Milwaukee, WI, but we have to go there to visit every time we're in town. They remember my name and my family even though it has been 6 years since I went to school down the street. Do yourself a favor and get down there for a treat!! P.S.... If you REALLY want a treat, ask for their Chewblocka. It's a rice crispy treat dipped in caramel then dipped in fudge!!! We went here because of a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. They have a large variety of treats to choose from. I used to work on Mackinac Island so I have pretty high standards when it comes to fudge and they met them! We tried peanut butter, rocky road, no bake and chocolate-peanut butter. Service was fast and friendly. I might go back tomorrow to stock up before I go home. read more

It's so delicious and reasonably-priced (sometimes my friend and I will go there with 80 cents and walk out with quite an impressive pile o candy) :D And the couple that owns it are the two most amazing, kindest people in the entire universe. Whoever has a sweet tooth, please go and visit Lakeside Emporium. The owners are very welcoming when you walk in. The ice cream I tried on Saturday's June 20th visit was called "Michigan Pot Hole", move over Ben & Jerry's, this one has you beat. Their selection of candy brings back so many memories of my childhood in the 70's when my parents owned a grocery store. Not to mention a variety of Pop that I have forgotten about and some I have never seen before. Their staff is friendly & helpful, always going out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. I have been sending my family, who lives out of state, their candy as gifts, (yes, they do ship it out for you too), let's just say, I have a list now of what else they want me to send them..
