My favorite bake shop in the Muskegon area is Hodgepodge Bake Shop! The space is welcoming and the staff are always so friendly. The decor is also very nice which is always an added bonus! Hodgepodge Bake Shop has a variety of items to choose from such as breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, pastries, homemade breads, etc. Not only do they have all of those items, they also make homemade speciality cakes! I went out on a limb and ordered a speciality cake for my pilot boyfriend who received a higher rank, and I showed them a photo of what I wanted and the cake looked even better than the picture. See pictures below of the cake they made! Not only did the cake taste delicious, it was exactly what I wanted. They truly made my vision come to life, and for a very realistic price! I enjoy stopping at Hodepodge Bake Shop for yummy treats and I tend to visit on my lunch breaks quite a bit! The lunch sandwiches are incredible on a homemade bagel. I stopped in here on a recent trip to Michigan to grab breakfast. Great selection of unique donuts and other baked good. I decided to get a chocolate turtle donut and the Samoa donut, both of which were absolutely fantastic. I love coming across a local bake shop that has unique Barrie ties that you're never going to see at the National chains or at the grocery store. Wish this had been on the last day of my trip so I could have gotten some more to take home with me. Good coffee selection too- I got an ice coffee with one of the syrups that they had and it was good. Friendly helpful staff. You can tell that this bakery takes a lot of pride in what they do. Hope to back in that neck of the woods again so I can try some other donut types! read more

Drove 30 minutes based on Yelp and Google reviews of this place. Yes, the staff is nice, yes, there are a variety of donuts... However... They don't make them fresh. I showed up at 6:55am (5min before store opening) and when I came in they were just losing in the unsold donuts from the day before and charging the same price. It's shocking to me what passes as a good donut experience in western Michigan. There are very few, if any, dedicated donut shops. They're all bakeries that claim to sell donuts too. The idea that you can show up at 7am and be sold day old donuts exclusively is absurd. read more

I don't think I've ever given a 5-Star rating after my first visit somewhere (I just feel like the experience needs to be verified more than once for that kind of rating) but Hodgepodge deserves this one! We were actually camping in Muskegon this weekend, when it started to rain (storm, really). So we got on Yelp and found this little gem not far away! It was the perfect place for us to escape the weather, drink some very good coffee, eat a little lunch, and find a cozy seat to do some reading. We were there for a couple of hours, and never felt pressured to leave. The whole time, we were happy to see a steady flow of traffic come through and pick up some donuts, fresh baked bread, or a specialty coffee drink. We really enjoyed the Nutella Latte - it tasted like hot chocolate. Hats off to the owners who operate a fantastic coffee & bakery shop in this small town! read more

We finally were able to get back up in the area and we were tremendously looking forward to picking up donuts this morning only to find that they are closed on Sunday. I'm sorry, but what donut shop is closed on a Sunday! Yelp has their hours listed as 8-2 and reviewers even mention that they have gone on a Sunday so we weren't expecting it to be closed. Extremely disappointing. Will upload a picture of their front door with true hours. ---------- We got donuts here last year while visiting the area and I am still fantasizing about them. I had a peanut butter chocolate donut that was heavenly and my kids had an Oreo donut which was so good. We ate them at the beach at Pere Marquette. I don't know when I will be able to get back to the area but would come here just to have their donuts again. Went camping at P.J. Hoffmaster State Park and heard about this place to get coffee. The moment we walked in the smells were worth the trip over! I absolutely love how a shop that's called a "bakery" has many different baked goods instead of just donuts. They had muffins that looked to die for and multiple fresh loafs of bread that looked mouthwatering! The prices were pretty good for the coffee (cheaper than Biggby or Starbucks). Been wanting to stop in here for some time now. Five blocks from home and a nice walk. Needed some donuts for a sick friend and decided to get lunch at the same time. Can't speak to the donuts yet, but they look and smell amazingly fresh and flavorful. Really tempted by the maple bacon topping on one of the options. Also... many of them are HUGE. Three kinds of scones, bear claws, long johns, some carmelly apple-y thing, artisan breads all tempting. I opted for a sandwich on a jalapeño cheddar "pragel" which is a large pretzel bagel. It was the most jalapeño-packed bagel I've ever had. Scrumptious. They also have breakfast sandwiches and hoagies on the freshest of rolls. As I dined in on my sandwich, I gleaned that the slider buns must be exceptional because about three quarters of the customers came in specifically asking for them by the dozen. Very clean, friendly and welcoming with a funky vibe. Nice mellow music playing and one TV screen on ESPN, one on HGTV. I think I'll grab a loaf of day old brioche on my way out. Two bucks. I'm here in Muskegon for work and my co-worker took me here for breakfast this morning. It's a cute little bake shop that I believe is family owned- which I like! I enjoyed all the cute, sassy signs they had decorating the place. There are a couple tables to sit at so you can eat in house, or you can get your food to go. When we first walked in we were instantly met by a big gleaming case of fresh doughnuts. Big, delectable, sugary, sweet, gooey, colorful, sprinkled goodness. The entire place smelled amazing. I tried to "behave" and order something lower calorie. I placed an order for a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich and some OJ. But my co-worker ordered a long john and insisted I have one too. How could I argue? Well- there goes the diet! The sandwich was good and all but that long john... holy smokes! It was amazing. To quote the gentleman behind the counter, it's a 3 pound pastry with 5 pounds of filling. I've never actually had a long john with cream filling (it was like an eclair on the inside!!). It was amazing. The chocolate frosting was decadent. And the cream filling was ridiculously rich. I highly recommend it! They had a variety of breakfast sandwiches (or sliders as they call them) as well as breakfast "pragels"- pretzel bagels. They also serve hoagies and soup and coffee. I stopped in Hodgepodge after brousing books at the nearby used bookstore and I couldn't believe my eyes! The assortment of baked goods included scones, crullers, long johns, cookies, bagels, and more! I bought a decaf to go, filled a bag of goodies to try and headed home with my books. Several folks were seated inside and out; one pair looked like they were having a business meeting with a laptop open. These were some of the most delicious confections that I've had in a long time. Went there in the afternoon to buy donuts. They had little selection. We bought two anyway. The price was pretty high, but we were already there. As he handed them over, the employee said that "they might be a little stale since they were made this morning and are the leftovers." He wasn't kidding. The donuts were hard and disgusting. This is a great little neighborhood bakery/cafe. The atmosphere is great! Lately they have been expanding their sandwich and soup side of the business. On Wednesday a full sized hoagie with chips and drink is only little over $5 dollars. That is pretty cheap these days. The quality of the bread is excellent, the cold cuts however are just plain average. The price makes up the difference. Nobody at the office will complain about Hodgepodge donuts or pastries. They close rather early. The latest they are open is 4 pm. Quantities can be limited, but you know they will keep their stocks fresh. read more

I had a coupon from AARP for a buy one get one free menu item. This shop is way out of my way, but I am so glad I went. I bought a loaf of the most delicious bread I have eaten in a long time-Garlic Asiago. I also bought a loaf of whole grain bread, and with my coupon, it was free. $5 for two beautiful breads. The garlic part of my bread was very understated and the Asiago part was incredibly loud & delicious, as I have said. It made an awesome grilled cheese sandwich and also made my rotisserie chicken crow like a rooster. Oh wait, that was me! I saw a sign that said donuts are half price from 2-4 PM. Happy hour with donuts. Can it get any better? One thing I did miss was no fancy coffee. Just lattes and cappuccinos. Staff is so patient and eager for you to love their food. A charming end note is when they offer to slice the bread, it goes into a machine. The very small ends get cut off, and they hand them to you to eat right then! No wasting of what you paid for!
