    Chicken and waffles, yum!

Went back to 794 looking for some good southern style food. I was thinking about chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, collard greens, and cornbread! What a disappointment to find a much more generic menu with the same old fried appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and Mexican food that so many other eating establishments offer. I love Mexican food, but I go to a Mexican restaurant if that's what I want. I didn't go to 794 for the ambience, and now I'm not so sure I'll go back for the food. Our server knew nothing about wines offered, but was otherwise pleasant. It's time to check out other some of the other innovative restaurants in the Muskegon area.

We went here for lunch around 12:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and they were somewhat busy but we got a table right away. We got a side salad and the Cuban sandwich with onion rings. The Cuban was amazing! Best Cuban I have ever had! The lemon dill vinaigrette for the salad was good too. The onion rings had lots of onion in them and the batter was good and crispy. We planned on sharing everything and good thing we did because the portions were pretty big. Our service was great as well! She was quick and friendly. We will be back when we are in town again.

I'd never heard of this place but a group of friends and I headed there for dinner recently. The restaurant is open and bright, and not very busy on a Thursday evening around 6 pm. We were seated right away and decided on drinks. The seasonal drink menu was large and everyone seemed happy with their choices - the lavender & pea flower lemondrop martini was so beautiful! I stuck with water but they have a full bar and plenty of options for beer as well. The menu is huge and everything sounded so delicious. They do "creatively southern" food so I knew I wanted to get something with a southern vibe, so I finally chose the catfish po boy and added a side of collard greens. In the meantime we ordered the cheese curds and cornbread muffins to share amongst the group. The cornbread muffins come in an order of four, but we had six people so we asked our server if we could get six, and she said of course! This was awesome and let me tell you, the muffins were delicious. They were super tender and moist and not overly sweet. I'm not normally a huge cornbread fan but I loved these. The spreads that came with were both delicious, a berry-jalapeno jam and honey chili butter. On to the cheese curds, which were kind of mind-blowing to be honest. They were cubes of cheddar cheese, I don't think they were actual cheese curds (which is a specific type of cheese product), but I didn't care because they were SO. GOOD. I've had cheese curds at a lot of local places but these were different - they had a very light wrapping/breading of something we couldn't identify, but they were lightly crispy on the outside and perfectly gooey inside. And they came with two sauces - a marinara and an herbed ranch. As a sauce girl, I approve. Okay, I'm still thinking about these cheese curds. Our meals were huge and I was amazed by the massive filet of catfish on my sandwich! I could only eat half, plus I was saving room for dessert. The sandwich was tasty, but I'd definitely get the shrimp and andouille mac and cheese next time. The greens were okay, not the best I've had but cooked well. For dessert I got the turtle brownie, which was again - delicious. The crisp candied nuts were a great accompaniment and I loved the vanilla gelato. I also had a bite of the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and it was perfect! Our server was great with splitting our checks and handling our indecisive large group. Plenty of street parking in the area and the building houses some other cute businesses, making it a fun destination. I will definitely be back to try more from the menu!

Wow!!! It's been a while since I've been to a restaurant and ~everything~ wowed me, but this place was it! I ordered two drinks off the summer cocktail menu- the Waterlily (not pictured) and the Watermelon Basil Margarita. Both were adorable, and both tasted great! The margarita tasted slightly stronger than the Waterlily, but that might just be because tequila had a more prominent taste. For appetizers, we ordered the cheese curds snd the cornbread. The waitress ~so graciously~ brought us 6 cornbread muffins (for our party of 6) instead of 4. This saved us from having to wrestle for the cornbread, so that was appreciated The cornbread came with some delicious spreads, including some kind of whipped butter, and a fruity jalapeño jam (this had the jalapeño flavor, but wasn't spicy- even your mom would probably like it.) The real kicker though was the CHEESE CURDS They came out in perfect little cubes with a very thin layer of some kind of breading, which we discussed ~at length~ because we need to know their secrets. They were perfect gooey bites of cheese with the perfect crunch. Hands down, the best cheese curds I've ever had. Other restaurants better start acting like plankton and try to come in and steal that secret formula, because w-o-w. The entrees were also all spot on! The shrimp and andouille mac had SO MUCH shrimp and andouille. I've never got a pasta and been like "Wow, they skimped on the veggies, but the meat portions are fantastic" but here they did! (There was enough veggies- I wouldn't actually say they skimped!) Other people got the short ribs, grilled cheese, french dip, and catfish po boy (not pictured) and everything was a HIT. The only thing I heard anyone say was average was a side of the collard greens. Their dessert menu was extensive, and made choosing hard, but our table ordered the sorbet, a cheesecake, and a turtle sundae, and everything came out amazing. For having such too notch food, this place felt pretty laid back! Shoutout to our server for being so friendly and accommodating, even for a large (a very indecisive) group. This place is a little bit of a hike from where I live, but it's good enough that I'd definitely come back.

Though they were understaffed, our service and the food were redeeming. Super sweet, bubbly, and amiable server. Sports on TVs. Converted warehouse. Lots of windows, high ceilings. Modern Southern cuisine. Garden Salad, Crab cakes, and Crispy Brussels Sprouts were items we tried. All delicious. Textures, seasonings, and plate displays were on point. Overall, very enjoyable .This may be an anchor store for an up and coming area.

This place was exactly the vibe I wanted for brunch, but it would have also been wonderful for a dinner spot as well. It's the first restaurant to the left once you go through the main doors to the Northwest 794 building on Pine st. There's ample street parking in front of and next to the building, and there is a pretty small private parking lot in the back (there's a back entrance as well if you park back there) and there's a lot farther back that's split between them and an apartment complex. We got to seat ourselves and the amount of sunlight coming through the windows was just beautiful! There were both low top and high top tables as well as plenty of bar seating too. It was not very busy when we went so I'm not sure how it is when it's busier, but our food came out probably 45 minutes after we ordered it. The crab cakes that we got as an appetizer came in around 10 minutes. Overall, our server was very quick with getting us anything we needed, and the food was absolutely excellent. Highly recommend!

A group of friends and I were venturing out to Muskegon for their newer food scene, and while I thought I never heard of it before, as I pulled up into the area, I knew exactly where it was as I've been to an establishment in the same building. I wasn't sure how to feel about the menu at first, given that it feels very unhealthy and southern inspired (southern food is delicious but if you're looking for healthier options, this probably isn't it). However, my friends and I were all about the foodie experience and beyond excited to try! There is a decent amount of street parking and walking into the restaurant, it's very open and very bright! I loved that vibe because we went on a sunny day. You get the sunshine without the heat, so it was a win win. The menu is enormous that it took us all WAY too long to decide on food. However, we decided to try the cheese curds and cornbread muffins to start. Let me just say that all the food was delicious. I didn't try something that I didn't enjoy, but the cheese curds STOLE THE SHOW. We probably talked about how the chef made it more than anything else during that dinner and the sauces were great! Even for our non-ranch loving individuals, they agreed that the herb ranch was worth saving. The cheese curds though - so light, so cheesy, and did not feel super greasy! Honestly... I'd eat them everyday if I had the chance. I ordered the french dip - because I love a good french dip and I honestly loved it. It was the right mix of crunchy and soft bread, a fantastic cheese pull on that first bite and the au jus was so flavorful! I will probably try something else when I come though, the short ribs and meatloaf sounded really good so maybe those. Our server was so friendly, dealing with 6 very indecisive foodie ladies, and split the check without a worry. While I don't get out to Muskegon often, I'll definitely come back here and try more items soon!

I met some friends at 794 for lunch last week. I love the modern atmosphere - lots of windows and high ceilings with exposed piping. I don't think they have outdoor seating, but that would be a great addition! I ordered the pressed Cuban sandwich with fries and was not disappointed! They were very generous with the meat and the sandwich was huge! Our waitress was very nice and friendly, but tended to disappear frequently. All in all, lunch was very enjoyable. I'll be back!

And had a totally different experience. The first night I came (a Saturday; they were SO BUSY), the bartender was engaging, interactive. Other staff cleaning up and around customers seemed friendly and cool too. The second night (a Sunday; there wasn't more than twelve or so customers there)? They were so rude. One staff member was yelling at people to get into a single orderly line (we were) and the bartender said they were cash only (they weren't the previous night, and...) The menus are QR codes on the tables, which is pretty standard. I didn't love that food and drinks are on separate tabs. So with 2 of us there, we had 4 tabs by the end. 1 each for food, and 1 each for drinks. It felt a little disjointed. It was also a little hard to get a server's attention when needed. You order on your phone, but just to get a couple glasses of water it took some time to flag down our server. And really, it's more of a host/food-runner situation since all the order processing is done online. I'm not super into cocktails, but their drinks really sounded amazing. They have some very fun, and inventive cocktails. If we hadn't already been to 2 breweries I probably would've ordered one. Instead I had a beer, which I believe was a house made IPA, and was fine. We weren't super hungry so we each ordered some egg rolls and shared them. Not necessarily the best I've ever had, but they were definitely good enough. I appreciate that they had some fun, not typical types of egg rolls on the menu. The space was cool, and I liked the food well enough that I'd go back. Hopefully it will feel a little more like a dining experience next time. That, or they could just have people order at a counter and it would make more sense. The Sunday brunch menu is small, but sounds amazing. I'm more likely to return for that rather than for a dinner.

I DO NOT recommend eating the food here. Laughably bad. The heirloom tomato was described as marinated, pickled, smoked, candied, and blistered with micro cilantro and finishing salt. Okay, already trying too hard with the descriptors. And no effort whatsoever with the actual execution of the dish. It was truly cold cherry tomatoes with olive oil and salt. Sad. A little funny. And ultimately puzzling. The shrimp was $15 for 3 shrimp plated on shredded iceberg and pickled jalapeño. The wontons might have been purchased at Trader Joe's and thrown in the deep frier. Lastly, the burrata. I should have known better than to order burrata "fried," that's a tragic oxymoron. Rubbery on the inside, crusty on the outside, and seeping with milky juices, tenderly plated with thin slices of hamburger bun cutely called a crostini. Stick to the cocktails-- had we only stopped for drinks, our review would have been glistening with stars.

We got breakfast take out on Saturday, 11/29/25 around 11:30am after recommendations from The Crue…read morewhile getting a haircut. The service was great and the food and coffee drinks came out quick. For drinks I had a banana bread latte and he ordered a mocha with an extra shot. Both were delicious! We ordered 3 different entrees to share - I might not have the names right, so please bear with me if you try to find them on the menu and you can't find the exact same thing. Started off strong with the breakfast burrito. It was so good! I don't know if it had a cheese sauce or just melted American cheese, but it was a good balance of cheese, hash browns, eggs and sausage. The munchwrap was awesome with chorizo sausage, hash browns, a tostada for crunch and cheese all grilled up in a flour tortilla. Last and our least liked was the Cheddar Bay Biscuit bowl. I like the concept, but the execution was poor. The biscuit had been microwaved damn near to death. It was hard to cut through with a knife. The consistency was somehow soggy and hard while also chewy. Add to that the saltiest sausage gravy ever. We each ate one bite, said no thank you and tossed it. Everything else was so good, this might just be a bad one off, but I don't think I could be convinced to try it again. I don't think food is served all day, so if you are hungry, get there before 2pm (I think).

As a DD, I had the best experience at Rake Beer Project…read more I also cannot have sugar and wanted a non-alcoholic choice other than water or the usual one flavored diet soda. I asked the bartender (I wish I would have got his name) if they had any options for me given those 3 things, and he came up with a DELICIOUS sugar free iced coffee option that was so good that one of the friends who had been drinking all night decided she wanted one to go along with her beer. It's sometimes hard as the DD to find a place with any variety and I was so happy to have a place make me a priority too. After all, your DDs are getting those drinkers safely to and from your establishment to bring in those big bucks - so you should give them a little thank you by treating them nicely as well. Thanks Rake Beer Project, for going above and beyond.
