This was my second time at 88 Street Food and it did not disappoint! The owners and staff are very nice and accommodating. The individual at the front even walked me through the menu and helped me ensure that what I was ordering was allergy-friendly. The location has adequate parking in the form of a parking lot which makes it really accessible. I went on a Monday evening so it was not too busy. The menu was pretty expansive and had a lot of different options. One of my favorite parts was that they had images for every menu item, so you could really visualize what you might like. I ordered a strawberry lemon tea and bulgogi fries. Both were delicious, and the tea was very fresh tasting with real strawberry pieces! This place has a very casual vibe paired with really affordable prices allowing you to try a variety of things without breaking the bank. Service is good. Food used to be good. Although the last 2 times my husband gotten us the bahn mi from there, we got sick. Today he got us some bahn mi and I threw up again and both of our stomachs are hurting again. And it tastes old like their veggies and meat and pate just sits out. Second time I threw up after eating it. Sad this is the only authentic bahn mi in Richmond, hate to have to go up north every time we want a good bahn mi but the stomachaches, nausea and throwing up , i cant do it. All the food was flavorful and fresh, and we particularly liked their vietnamese coffee and fruit teas (though the boba pearls were not very good. Nothing lasts long in this space, so it's forgettable. That said, I didn't realize the name of it is 88 Street Food, because their signage says BAHN MI, which is what I thought its name was. Anyhow, finally stopped in to grab bahn mi, which is my absolute fav. Got the Pork Belly and crispy rolls for me, the Teriyaki Chicken for a friend, and the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl for my mom. For what I got, I have zero complaints. I will absolutely go again. And again. Want to try the noodle bowls. The food comes out FAST, and service is nice. This is secret gem in Richmond. Some of the best food and friendly service you'll ever get. I got the bao bun (bun bun)with the lemongrass pork, a bahn mi pork belly, Vietnamese iced coffee and passion mango boba. This was probably the best banh mi I ever had. The bread was fresh and crunchy. The pickled carrot, daikon, cilantro were all amazing and greatly complemented the pork belly! The bao bun was also super amazing! It was soft, fluffy,and slightly sweet. The lemongrass pork was sweet and savory that I had a hard time having the last bite as I did not want it to end. The bao bun was my favorite part of the meal. Both drinks were great. The staff and service was the nicest and friendliest for a casual cafe I have ever experienced. Stopped here on our way back to NC. There was a lot of parking, the place was vibrant and very clean, and the service was so very friendly. We ordered the fried shrimp and the fresh shrimp. Both were good and fresh, though the peanut sauce was unfortunately a bit bland. We also ordered the bulgogi bowl (good flavor but very little meat (almost 3 c the rice portion!). I then ordered one of their bobas and I was not dissappointed! I brought the Banh Mi home to split with the hubby and we both agreed that it's legit. I love the amount of pickled radish and jalepeno that stuffed in the sandwich. HIGHLY recommend. Their boba was refreshing and just hits the spot - you boba lovers know what I mean! The baguette could use more color and it didn't seem fresh. I also prefer more carrots and daikon and would have been nice to be cut in half automatically. They have plenty of seating. My partner adored both of them too. When they noticed that we were sharing, the cashier came with a knife to cut our banh mi in half which was really kind and helpful. Not only is this food extremely delicious, but the service is spectacular! We have visited twice and each time, the owners went out of their way to ensure freshness. For example, we placed an online order and they waited to make the boba when we came to pick up our orders. Additionally, the food is very warm, fresh, and delicious. Ordering was easy as the menu is brightly lite above the order counter. The staff was friendly and answered all our questions politely. We ordered pork buns, tofu buns and crispy rolls. All was tasty and seemed very fresh. You order at the counter and then they call your name when it's ready but they went ahead and brought the food directly to our table. The food was in take out containers even though we were eating in. The forks were sealed in plastic too so this is more of a fast food or take out type place. There's a small area to the right of the counter which had some market type items such as specialty ground coffee and snacks. I loved my experience here, and it brought me right back to my Bay Area days of fast, casual asian food. Also, the staff here is SO friendly and kind. In terms of food, I got the bulgogi and chicken rice bowls and I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee. Everything was really fresh and tasty. Flavors were all on-point. Price was very fair.
