I bought a radio and parts to install in my sprinter van. I am 5 hours away and thought to get it from them so if I had troubles I could drive there and have them install it for me. I also wanted someone to figure out the parts I needed as there are soo many options. I get the package below zero temps so it sits in my garage. I notice the radio box had been opened but just pulled the directions our and wiring as the harness needs to be wired first. So I go to do all that and want to hook it up to test to make sure i works. I get the radio screen out and to my amazement it is FULL OF fingerprints, scratches, dirty filthy used garbage they sent to me. When I contact him JOHN MUELLER thinks I swapped the radios and I am trying to rip him off. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! This guy is a crook. Perhaps it's just me, but I'm leery of most car audio shops. Might be a personal thing lol. Laketown Speed and Sound made me feel differently. Right away, the building has a great presence. This is not some back ally warehouse type of shop. Laketown is a nice facility, with a nice showroom and a big well kept beautiful service bays. You can tell they take pride in their work and offer quality service and top brands they sell. That's usually comes at a price. When I walked in the cost of my repair was about $500 and almost $2500 if they needed to replace it. Most audio places would've have probably worked me for as much money as they could've gotten out of me. Not Laketown. Adam who is one of their talented technicians, diagnosed the head unit issue and simply updated the firmware. Total $80 out the door with diagnostics and software update all within about 30 min. That's honesty. Honest people that really know their stuff. I will be back! read more

I paid $75 for Laketown to do some diagnosis and figure out which component was drawing power when the car was off. With a specific recommendation, I went ahead and was able to get the problem fixed and my concerns are in the rearview. So I've posted a previous thorough and well detailed review on Google which was deleted for some reason. My guess is the review was flagged. So let me post my HONEST review of my experience again here. My review was within Google guidelines and I don't believe my experience should be censored. I'll be brief this time. In 2018 I had leather Katzkin seat covers installed on my 4Runner. They had improperly installed my leather seat covers using staples instead of clips as they were supposed to. Over time has caused the leather to stretch and tear. This is also my second row seat which I fold down often. Because the leather has now torn and stretched it will not fold back appropriately, I have to literally push the the leather out of the way so that the seat belt assembly can slide through how it's suppose to. This is a major hassle since I'm always putting my seat up and down depending on the load I carry. I have since moved out of the state and contacted Laketown to see what they can do about it. They said they'll only fix it if I come back to their shop, which is now 1,800 miles and 30h+ of driving away. They did not offer any credit, any refund, or partial reimbursement for another shop to re-install the leather. They basically said call Katzkin and good luck. Again this is my experience with them. Had good experience with these guys back in the day... but now when I called and asked them to do a car audio install with existing equipment from my old car that THEY installed and provided... they refused to install it and told me I had to buy new equipment from them. It's worth noting that there was no compatibility issue with the existing equipment and my new vehicle... they specifically said that if they can't make money off the equipment, then it wouldn't be worth it for them. Have been very happy with the window tint this shop did on my hatchback back in Feb 2019. Very clear on the rear window with the defroster lines (previous car's tint deformed to much around d those lines) which is due to the higher quality film they use. In the Salt Lake valley, there are a number of choices in mobile audio and aftermarket auto accessory shops. I would choose and stick with Laketown. It is a full service shop, reps a good number of mid level to higher end brands and is run by a professional and knowledgeable staff who will listen to your needs and find the right solution. Recently had a JL Audio Microsub Plus installed in my Tacoma, just to have it reinstalled in my Tundra a couple of months later. Sounds amazing. Both times the job was done right and was the best solution for what I needed. I also just had a remote starter and running boards installed on the Tundra. No disappointment again. Isaac was my sales rep and Orlando did the installs. Top notch work and top notch associates. This shop can do just about anything that you want (subject to the size of your wallet of course). And you don't have to worry about problems because if you encounter any, they won't leave you in a lurch. I have not had any issues with my recent installs but I have confidence that if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to contact them and they would make sure they made it right. The owners have been in this business for a very long time and I used to patronize their former business as well. Laketown is not the cheapest shop in town. But they are competitive. These guys are the absolute best!!! I finally decided to upgrade in my trailblazer and wasn't sure what to get. Mikes is the guy who helped me and he couldn't have been a better person to talk too. He told Different options I had after listening to my car and didn't try to push me on anything I didn't need. They did an excellent job to tint the windows of my two cars. Very good quality and comparing with the quality, the price is also good. I can barely see any bubbles on the windows. I wait about 2.5 hours for a 5 windows work and just 1 hour for a 2 windows work. Great experience and highly recommend. read more

I wanted a legit sound system in my Raptor. Not just some bass heavy junk. I talked with Isaac, who gave me three options, we discussed them and then I had Angel do the install. Angel is one of the top installers in the U.S. the system is excellent. The music just seems to materialize out of the air. I can either listen to instrumentals and hear every note perfectly, or I can jack up some rock and really pound it. Even at volumes so loud you can't have a conversation, the music is clear as a bell. And lest I forget, Angel's work is so good you'll want to leave the covers off so everyone can see it. He's like the neurosurgeon of the installation world. Neat, precise, beautiful to see. Overdue review. Long story that happened over several days. The synopsis is I got screwed by this shop. Dennis was less than professional. We had a verbal agreement for 20 percent tint for the front and back of my vehicle. I know, it's illegal but they agreed to do it. When I got my car back, the back had limo tint. I spoke to Dustin, who argued with me that he did me a favor. After arguing twice, he replaced the tint but re-did the front to 50 without telling me. I made a google review where the owner challenged my ethics and put themselves on a pedestal. No luck there, I made a dispute with the bank. Laketown furnished invoices to the bank that were bs and "lost" the one I signed. Bank bought it and I ended up with the short stick after several months. Save your time, money, effort and go somewhere else. If you can't trust a crooked shop, then who can you trust? read more

Laketown, you misleading vixen. I drove by your shop, which is in a tiny, retrofitted home, numerous times before I stopped by. I hope you'll forgive me. I just always figured from your name that you catered to the people who seriously modify their cars and drop $10k for audio/visual automotive equipment. That's definitely not me. Although judging by some of the high-end cars in the lot, as well as the equipment in your showroom, if that's what customers are looking for, I'm confident you can help them out. I was simply looking for an inexpensive stereo to plug my iPhone into. No speakers, amps or subs for me. And while I wasn't dropping a lot of coin, your owner, John, was more than helpful, showing me various stereos, explaining the pros and cons of each, and not once did he try to upsell me. When I told him I was looking to buy and get it installed today, he told me "no problem." And within about 30 minutes I had a brand new stereo installed, and my old one wrapped up nicely and sitting on my passenger seat. I also liked how John had his two younger boys there. This place is definitely a family affair. John mentioned he has owned Laketown for about 10 years. So the next time one of my friends is looking for audio equipment for their cars, I'll make sure I steer them away from the large big-box chain stores and into Laketown. read more

If John the owner doesn't lose his temper on you you are in for a decent experience. If he does it instantly becomes personal and everything is your fault and the thought of telling him to stop everything because this is a different guy then the one "promising me the best work in Utah" will just replay in you mind. On a custom specific install which I ordered in all my own audio high end audio equipment that he couldn't get ($2,500), I expected the install to go well and if a problems or issue arose I would be contacted and we could talk about it and come up with a solution. During my install I was called and I was being talked to in a demeaning manner which was honestly offensive (I'm a car person but just didn't have the time to do the install myself) I was told it would take longer then expected. I'm a reasonable person and i was fine with it (I even tipped the installers an extra $100 each because it wasn't their fault) but being talked to in that way is not ok with me. When I picked up my car total was a couple hundred dollars more then the original quote but was never told that at an point not was it discussed at this point he just told me the price and expected me to just pay it. When I questioned the price increase, again I was talked to in a way that was completely unprofessional like I should have know a "quote is just a quote". At this point I was completely done with this place. As was my friend looking to have a full system installed in his new Audi s6. A week after install my under seat subs started rattling... due to the experience I had I pulled the seat out and fixed it myself. Not what I would expect from a "high end" car Audio installer with "5 star reviews". Nothing personal but john need to hire a professional to deal with customers and just make the money from the shop bc he is the only specific problem other then the sub rattle. read more

Update 1/06/16 - This thing has been such a nightmare. It periodically loses sound. We troubleshoot can't find anything wrong, then days, sometimes weeks later the sound just starts working again. I would NEVER use these guys. Wasted so much of our time on what should have been a simple DVD player install. Now we have a crappy system and don't trust the guys to not screw something else up, so we don't take it back in. Update 9/20/15- After they got us in to install our DVD player, theses guys installed the wrong one. Of course we noticed right as we were heading out on our road trip and couldn't plug our device in. Wasted hours of our time reinstalling the correct DVD player right before the trip. 9/16/15 Terrible customer service. Over scheduled themselves and completely blew off our scheduled (in writing) appointment. read more

DO NOT!!! I repeat DO NOT let these guys touch your car!!!! My best friend got completely screwed by these guys. This was his experience This review is based on one experience and one individual. They will not like this review but this employee did something to spite me in the end, forcing me to make this review. My recommendation is to go elsewhere because customer service was non existent. I requested a slightly darker tint than technically allowed by state code because I wanted it the same all around(I don't like the different shade from front to back). When I picked my car up after hours, I found that the rear windows had been tinted to 5% (Limo). I went back to tell this individual that there had been a mistake with the back windows because they were too dark. He argued with me and said that he did me a favor so why would I come back to complain. Finally after some arguing he agreed to re do it. When it was re done, they had re tinted the front windows to 50 percent which I had not asked to be changed. Needless to say, now I have two different shades of tint on my car. Not only did I not get what I wanted, I had to go back twice and it cost me 300 dollars. I will never go back. read more

Everyone is capable of an off day and for whatever circumstances when I took my boat in last year I was not happy with my install and posted my experience on Yelp. The following is what separates a shop that cares about their reputation and those that don't. John the owner of Laketown went to great lengths to track me down after reading my Yelp review and personally call me. He apologized, and asked for the opportunity to make it right. I am extremely happy to report I took my boat back into Laketown and they went through my issues and delivered their high standard of 5 star work. I should also mention, John even wrote me a check and a personal note to cover a repair I had done at a big box store to fix a problem with the original install. What impresses me most is they never asked me to change my negative Yelp review, they simply wanted the chance to make it right and earn back my business. The moral of this story is every business will tell you they stand behind their work. But do they? How can I describe my experience with Laketown. I usually get a lot of upgrades done on my cars since I want them well taken care of. I have tried a couple of other shops in town, but let me tell you this has got to be the best automotive customizing shop in Salt Lake area. Here's why: Quality products: The products that they carry are only top of the line. So, if they make a suggestion of getting this installed versus that, I would take it. I could have easily gotten installed a cheaper product but when I came back to get an upgrade on it, it was easy for them to do. You pay for quality once hence the prices might be a tad bit higher here, but you do get what you pay for. Service: There are always a multitude of people lined up to help you. They know what they are talking about and they will try to save you as much money as possible. If its not going to be a good install then they won't recommend it to you. This is the definition of a true ma and pa store. It is conveniently located on state street next to Hoopes Vision. Overall, really impressed by this business and how it is run. They sold me 200 dollar door speakers when I came in for an install. The hooked up the door speakers did not hook or wire any of the amps. Did not even attempt to. I honestly could of done any of this myself. I came to have two amps wired. one for subs that was already wired. Simply had to run an additional amp. Pricing is average. Not high or low. What struck me was the level of customer service these guys provide. Their knowledge seems pretty good but I felt like i was the only person here in the attention and appreciation i was given as a customer. To sum it up after an hour of asking questions I was given an install option 3 days out. I asked if They could do it today and was told they were booked and closed in an hour. I asked if i could pay one of the reps to stay late and the rep asked and two installers said they would stay for free. I was kept updated every step of the process and after each item was completed I was walked out and asked to test and asked how I liked it and if any adjustments could be made.
