After receiving my insurance claim, I noticed I was due a refund back from the cash payment I had made the day of my procedure. I called the office to check on it. Only then was I told that there was a $145.00 "one time single use instrument" office charge that isn't submitted to the insurance company and is "an office charge for instruments used during the procedure". Sounds like something that should be included in the cost of a procedure since these instruments are needed to perform the procedure. As if dealing with insurance companies isn't bad enough, I shouldn't have to worry about my doctor charging extras to get more money out of me.

The office is a very pleasant and clean facility. The support staff has always been helpful. And both Doctor Silberman and Dr. Barakh are very caring, friendly, and offer very helpful advice. At my follow-up appointment, I was unexpectedly told I owed an additional $1,300 for work completed during the extraction that was later denied by my insurance. My concern is that these procedures were performed without clearly informing me that they might not be covered or that I could be responsible for additional costs. When I contacted my insurance company, they advised that the office could submit additional documentation for review, but I did not feel the office was willing to pursue that option. Patients deserve clear communication about treatment, insurance coverage, and potential out-of-pocket expenses before procedures are performed.

I have horrible teeth, coincidentally, I have an extreme fear of going to the dentist. Needless to say, this already isn't an ideal situation for everyone involved. I had a broken tooth and needed my molar extracted, the pain was unbearable and I needed to be seen immediately. I placed an order for an appointment online the night before, and was called first thing in the morning to set up an appointment. I was able to be seen first thing the following day. Awesome! I was seen promptly, the office is clean, spacious, and cheerful. Immediately, I felt at ease. The techs were helpful and did everything they could to protect my pregnant belly from the X-rays they needed to take. Dr. Kim came in to tell me what was up and explain the procedure to me. She was very personable, talked to me like a person instead of medical jargon, and assured me everything would be just fine. I asked about payment options and they worked with me to get the credit I needed. The procedure itself was pretty horrifying, but that's NO FAULT of the dental office, just my extreme stress over having any dental work done. It could have been a simple cleaning and I would have still freaked out. Anyway... Afterward, Dr. Kim was very sympathetic and accommodating. She gave me sutures even though she didn't need to, just to make sure there were no complications and I had to come back (the horror!). She prescribed antibiotics and a pain reliever, and all was right in the world. Her tech, Taylor, even called back a few hours later to make sure I was doing ok. There seems to be a very high staff turnover rate, which impacts the quality of service. Records are often disorganized--x-rays get lost, charts can't be located, and billing issues are a recurring problem. My most recent visit was especially disappointing. The cleaning felt rushed and incomplete, and it didn't feel like my teeth were properly cared for. As a result, this will be my last visit. I'll be scheduling with another provider to have my teeth cleaned properly.
