There's a small variety of snacks and drinks available at the front desk. They offer breakfast in the morning. It consists of waffles, muffins, yogurt, cereal. They did offer varying hot food (written on a whiteboard) such as biscuits and gravy or sausage and eggs. There was a juice machine and hot chocolate as well. My room wasn't the cleanest and needed some TLC. The inside of the shower curtain was yucky, the toilet seat was loose and you had to flush 2-3 times, the fridge had crumbs and spilled liquid inside. The bed was rock hard and very uncomfortable. The carpet had many various stains. And almost every wall had peeling or chipped paint. If this is the best in the area, it's probably your best bet but don't come with high expectations.

Update: Debbie ended up sending the receipt, however she spammed my personal inbox with 25+ reservation confirmations from my stay over a month ago. She has made this process difficult. For my experience: The hotel staff were patient and excellent to work with while sorting out a corporate/gov't payment card that took a few days to iron out. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and spacious I never used the pool or hot tub but they looked nice and inviting (note to self: pack a swim suit!). The breakfast options were plentiful and changed daily. The on-site laundry facility was a great bonus -- convenient and affordable. The hotel manager went out of his way to ensure my extended stay was good. I appreciated that personal touch. I was even assisted with enrolling in the Wyndham Rewards Program, which earned me Platinum status due to my length of stay... and earned Wyndham a new loyal customer. First and foremost, I've heard from an overwhelming number of guests how much they enjoyed the grounds and the beauty of the area, so much that they didn't mind the 4hr drive from the cities. The natural beauty of the area is emphasized here: native species surround you whether you are at the pavilion area, the campgrounds up around the loop, or even the open area of the RV park. There are also pretty little "hidden" places all over. Our photographers were thrilled about all the places to take photos- rock chairs, opennings in the woods, flowers planted here and there, sweet antique-looking benches, etc. The best part of Black Lantern though is the owner, Annie. She is just incredible. She was so thoughtful throughout the process and she was pretty much a wedding planner. She didn't mind talking to me about how weddings are put together and gave me contact info for decently priced vendors in the area. That was especially helpful as I am from Minneapolis and was contacting all the expensive vendors- oops. Annie took time to understand our style and vibe so that she could best help me plan an event that we wanted. She offered so much of her time before we even met to answer questions. She also has the uncanny ability to pop in at the right time- every time I needed her, she was there. She helped problem-solve for those things you don't plan on and offered a helping hand whenever it was needed. She chops all the wood and builds things, including amazing heart-shaped fires. What a badass woman! There was only one thing that was a disappointment at first- but then ended up being a blessing in disguise- we couldn't have our guests camp at the "campsites." Darn MN regulations. There isn't running water close enough to the loop to allow for campfires. Instead, we had all our guests camp in the RV park. It worked out wonderfully. This also allowed us to use one of the campsites as our ceremony site. Best decision we made. It couldn't have been a more perfect location for us. I didn't want to get married indoors, or even standing on cement. The clearing in the woods was large enough for 100 chairs and standing room for the other 60 people. The forest provided a breathtaking backdrop. Even a year later, when wedding-talk comes up, other people still bring up what an amazing venue Black Lantern is.

Neither of us received an email confirmation but we showed up anyway, hoping we'd have a place to lay our heads at night. We arrived and there were no cars in the parking lot. There was one employee at the desk. I had a reservation, while my colleague did not. Luckily, they were able to give her the same rate. There is no elevator so pack lightly - there are two stairways. When we were first checking in, the stairs in the entryway to the building were locked and unable to be opened, which made it hard to pull my wheels bag up the stairs. The keys are not a swipe or an insert, but simply a touch on an electronic pad on the door, which I liked. There are Neutrogena products in the bathroom in case you forget your personal hygiene products. They offer two king beds and one king bed rooms. There are three remotes, which is kind of confusing, but there are a ton of cable channels. A fridge, coffeemaker and microwave are here for all of your needs with Wolfgang Puck coffee and accompaniments. The bed is cozy with an adequate amount of pillows. I can hear car doors closing from the second floor over the tv, but otherwise it's pretty quiet. The three star rating is really based on these things: 1. Difficulty trying to make a reservation 2. No elevator 3. Locked door in entryway.
