The food is runny and most of the time not served hot. The wait staff makes you feel like you are burdening them. Worst is if you go back towards the bathrooms and look in the kitchen you will see how filthy it is with food on the floor and a mess everywhere. Having worked in restaurants I would be ashamed of this place. read more

The place was super busy. We were seated right away. We were given chips and salsa, which were good. And we waited and waited and waited. Then we ordered finally, and the guy yelled at me saying yeah I saw you but I'm busy. We did end up ordering. the food was good. The place is a little dirty and the floor is very slippery by the restroom. read more

Pretty unassuming from the outside and very colorful decor on the inside. We went for lunch while in town from Grand Forks. The lunch menu has some combo specials; my wife ordered one of these and enjoyed it. She especially liked the guacamole salad which is a little different than what we typically see. I ordered the huevos con chorizo which was very good. Prices were very good for the portion size we received. We will definitely go there again while in Thief River Falls. read more

I love trying to new places and Las Ranitas is no exception. Upon entering, the decor was as one would expect but EVEN MORE color than expected. The chairs here are fun and delightful. The floors and both seats were a teesh littered, but I expected that according to the time I ate dinner. I was at the tail end of the dinner rush. My host and server greeted and seated me quickly. Just like greeting and seating, I had chips and salsa in a snap. Returning with my soda, I ordered my fajitas. Maybe 6 pages into my book, my food arrived. Who doesn't love a sizzling plate of fajitas? I really enjoyed mine; they hit the spot. They could be cooked a little less done. The sizzling plate has the tendency to finish cooking and then over cook fajitas. Most of my pieces were moist and well done, just a few were chewy and over done. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience. Definitely the best joint in Thief River Falls if you want quick, but not fast food. read more

What a cute restaurant with lovely people running it. If I had to recommend one item to order, it would be the carnitas. They roast the pork to perfection, tender in the middle with yummy crispy bits on the outside. Portion sizes are definitely geared toward sharing. I don't recommend their chili rellenos, though. Their fajitas and burritos were delicious, but we missed the Mexican heat we've come to expect--granted, we are Minnesotans transplanted to California. It took us a while to get accustomed to traditional Mexican heat, so it all seems really mild to us now. The flavors and prices are great, though. You should definitely give this place a try. read more

Stopped by before heading to my hotel for the night. I saw all the other reviews so I went with the cheesesteak burrito and a tamale. The steak in the burrito, the sauces, and the tamale were all so fresh. I'm pleasantly surprised to find decent food and unique food this far out. Keep it up! read more

This is not authentic Mexican, don't let the description fool you. Not only are they lying about what they are, but they have horrendous service. Went to order take out during the coronavirus shutdowns, and the staff refused to acknowledge I was there. Only after I yelled for them did they come, and even then they decided to take someone else's order before mine even after the other customer mentioned I had been waiting before her. read more

Honestly a great place for authentic Mexican food, considering.. It's a godsend in Thief River falls, where there really aren't a whole lot of options for food, much less of the delicious authentic variety. Great ambiance and authentic decor. Our waiter was a little on the odd side but I think English is not his first language so it was difficult to understand him sometimes. Decent food, bad service. Overcharged for drinks. Got little margarita instead of big margarita. Our server argued with us that the portion size was correct. Then he sent another server to take care of us. New server admitted the "jumbo" margarita special was only 22 oz instead of the advertised 27oz, yet no comp on price. WTH?
