Was picking up my daughter nearby from Archery class. Had plans to hit a diffent store up the road a ways. Saw Lakewinds and forgot they had this location. Went in for King Arthur Bread flour, Rye and Whole wheat too. Planned on three mid size bags. Plans are to make some pizza crusts and play with the ratios to see how they turn out. To my delight not only did I get the King Arthur, I found locally grown rye and whole wheat in bulk bins. I got a lb of the last two to experiment in my recipes. I had another fantastic experience here today. This co-op is clean, well-lighted, well-stocked, and beautifully organized. When you walk in, you can forget the hustle and bustle of the day. They have a phenomenal selection of everything, from vibrant produce that seems plucked from an artist's canvas to an expansive selection of dairy and dairy alternatives and one of the most extensive bulk spice selections I have ever laid eyes upon. (If you enjoy making your own herb blends or tea blends, you simply MUST visit. See photo--it will make you giddy!) I found a great sale on my favorite stevia and grabbed two new-to-me flavors. I also found some of my favorite herbal coffee alternative! In the aforementioned cheese department, I discovered to my delight that they offer snack-sized portions of some of the local cheeses that they stock. What a win for a cheese lover like me. An Open Letter to Fellow Lakeland Co-op Members: Why We Must Hold Our Co-op Accountable Dear Lakeland Co-op Members, I am writing to express my deep concern about the increasing prices at our co-op, particularly for essential items like eggs, dairy, and gluten-free specialty products. As someone who has been a longtime member, I joined this co-op under the belief that it would prioritize community, ethical sourcing, and affordability over corporate-style profits. However, recent price hikes suggest otherwise. Our co-op has raised egg prices by more than $2 per dozen, citing an industry-wide shortage and competition from big-box retailers. While I understand that our supplier, Larry Schultz, is dealing with market pressures, I refuse to accept that our co-op--a business built by and for its members--should mirror the pricing strategies of luxury grocers like Lunds & Byerlys and Kowalski's. I just discovered this co-op and it is the only one I go to now. Besides carrying all organic, fabulous produce, the store offers so much more than other co-ops. This Lakewinds location is just amazing. It is super convenient to my house, carries a large selection of specialty products, has high quality meat and produce, and such friendly, lovely cashiers and staff. Becoming a member and supporting this co-op has been such a great decision. They have so many great organic products without crazy fillers and unhealthy additives so it makes it easy to find things I like. They have multiple types of pasture-raised eggs, pasture raised chicken, grass-bef beef, and heritage pork, which is otherwise a little tricky to find at stores around here. Their prices aren't always the lowest in town but they do have good sales on items at times and co-op members can get 5% off once a month. If you are a senior, you get 5% off by shopping here on a Tuesday. They also have Wellness Wednesday on the second Wednesday of the month, where you can get 10% off body care and supplements. The cashiers here are generally super friendly and lovely. I have been to a number of health food stores with rude cashiers and employees but this has not been my experience here. Everyone I have seen working is wearing a mask. Before anyone bags my groceries, I am always asked if I want them to bag them. I have never felt concerned about them taking COVID-19 restrictions lightly. Prices may not be the cheapest in town but they have a wide selection of items, including local products. Everything is just so wonderfully fresh, Lakewinds is miles ahead in the quality of products here. They have a gigantic selection of dried fruits and nuts. Every co-op is different and has its own nuances. Lakewinds is no different. It's larger than, say Seward, or possibly even the Wedge, but the offerings are the same. Fresh organic produce, meat, dairy, non-dairy items, etc. Their bulk section is ok--not as good as some other co-ops, but I can find what I need when I go there. Service is good, no complaints. Their pricing structure is higher than most stores, as co-ops tend to be, but that's only because of what they are selling--mostly local, organic, sustainably sourced food and health and beauty items. Great store, it is in my rotation of co-ops which I go to. read more

So I am a regular at this co-op. But maybe not after today. I sampled a small tidbit from the hot salad bar and the little dude with the sideway baseball cap that apparently cooks behind the scenes for kitchen proceeded to follow me around for the next 20 minutes after scolding me for sampling the food. Literally stalked me. Followed me to register. Nuts!!!!! Seriously I literally spend probably $400 month here. They need to get rid of the sketchy people working there. The hot food was inedible after all which isn't a surprise given this cook. Wedge co- op encourages sampling. They need to watch who they hire. Probably not going back. read more

I'm a fan of Lakewinds' Chan-happenin' location, so I was thrilled to learn that one opened up in Richfield! Like other co-ops in the Twin Cities metro, Lakewinds grocery stores sell quality local products at prices slightly higher than your traditional chain (E.G. Rainbow). Also, the joint is nearly spotless, well-organized, staffed by friendly people, and has an awesome Peace Coffee café connected to it! If it wasn't the afternoon, I would've ordered a tall cold press. During my first visit, I spent most of my time in the produce and deli sections and found all the goodies needed for my and juicing and sandwiching-fests. Some tips: -Prices of deli meats are at least $7.99 per pound. Most were about $9.99. Not bad! -They sell fruit smoothies for around $6. -Tuesday is Senior Discount Day, and seniors get 5% off. -There's plenty of parking. If I lived in Richfield, I would shop there all the time. read more

This is my current favorite co-op to shop at (and also the newest and closest). Besides having the largest bulk selection available out of all of the co-ops, they also have one of the most impressive selection of food/health/bodycare/deli/meat/seafood items to choose from. They even carry pastured lard as well as duck fat (VERY few places carry either of these in the Twin Cities). They have a great meat and seafood case. They source all that they can locally, sustainably, and from environmentally-friendly sources. Do you love sushi? They have a FRESH SUSHI BAR! You can either grab a ready-made selection of sushi to-go or you can have one of their sushi chefs assemble a custom order for you. I have grabbed numerous selections over the last couple of months, but my favorite is their Salmon Cado rolls (sells for $6.99). And for kombucha fans, they have locally-sourced kombucha on tap (only a small handful of places in the Twin Cities are starting to provide this)! I also feel indebted (unfortunately, in more ways than one) to Lakewinds for carrying the still hard-to-find "Jackson's Honest Sweet Potato Chips." While spendy and while I can make them at home, this has turned into a not-so-guilty pleasure that I continue to pull out money for. They're really worth the extra money compared to all other brands (and I bet you can't eat just one). Their bakery is also carrying an item that I would consider getting a job in that department JUST to get my hands on the following recipe: Coconut Rochers. Every macaroon I've ever consumed up until the point of trying Lakewinds Coconut Rochers is officially garbage. I'm unabashedly hooked. They're delicious and have just a few ingredients that have you feeling everything is right in the world (until your last bite...word to the wise: buy the single ones in the bakery case instead of the pack of 4...unless you WANT to eat 4 (along with the whole bag of "Jackson's Honest Sweet Potato Chips")). The only thing I can think of for improvement is their bulk herb section. While they do have a number of items to select from, it would be great to see the variety of herbs, teas, & spices expand, as well as the size of the containers (& to use glass since that seems to have an effect on the preservation and quality of herbs/spices). While plenty of folks gripe about the cost of food in co-ops, it's worth the extra-cost. Due to the depressing situation with commodity food in supermarkets that are being subsidized through our taxes only reinforces to the food industry that it's okay to put chemicals, & fillers in the food or offer "food" that is genetically modified. Supporting the co-ops means that our local and organic farmers have a better chance at earning a more sustainable wage and every time I shop there will make a difference. The service is friendly and helpful in all of the departments, with many of the employees checking in to see if you're finding everything alright. The store is quickly approaching it's 1 year anniversary and is still a stunning site. At this type of store, markups on staple goods are to be expected, and yes, they do deliver here. However, the quality of items here is quite good in terms of freshness, the store is kept clean, and this location actually does have many very reasonably-priced items, most notably a very impressive bulk foods section (something that has gone the way of the dodo bird in most grocery stores), and a wide range of products in the vitamin/supplement section. The store is well-lit and laid out in a logical fashion, and parking is convenient. Definitely would recommend. read more

Pretty pleased with the kombucha selection as others have mentioned. I got the seasonal red clover, holy basil, and oatstraw. Parking was pretty convenient even though we went right during the after work rush hour. Maybe not many people know about it yet. Since we just bought a new house nearby we browsed the cleaning section and chose an earth friendly toilet cleaner that was on sale for only 3 bucks. Actually buying into the co-op didn't seem to be the best deal though. A fee of around $100 for 5% off once a month, 10 % off crate purchases, a vote on the board and possibly dividends at the end of the year? I'm curious if business will start to pick up in the fall. read more

Lakewinds Co-Op opened in Richfield several years ago and we've been weekly customers since then. I love the fresh produce, deli and friendly staff. Hands down my favorite co-op in the area. The bulk area is also a great resource for trying small amounts of new products. We were formerly share holders in the Linden Hills Co-op and when Lakewinds opened we joined and sold back our LH membership. Lakewinds also generously donates space for CSA box pick-up so we don't have to travel very far to support great local organic farms. My personal favorite right now is Featherstone Farms. The place is clean, new, well stocked, easily located and the prices seem lower than the other coops, though looking at some of the reviews I may be mistaken. The thing I have the most problem with many of these types of business structures is the greener-than-thou attitude that seems to permeate the day to day workings, as well as the hypocrisy of the execution of their values through their customer service. I consider myself to be more on the left side of the isle, but I all to often find myself at odds with so called like minded individuals because of their intolerance. Coops often pride themselves on group ownership and social/environmental consciousness as well as community contribution and leadership. Yet on two separate occasions, when I went in to order a coffee (my 'Big Mac' test for customer service) the individual behind the counter made an issue out of the fact that my container, the container I brought in to save on using their paper ones, was too large to fill completely because their largest size was 16 oz. and mine was 18 oz., so they deliberately left a full two inches from the top to compensate, which is actually MORE than two ounces of coffee. Seriously ?! I mean, I'm not going in there again, that was it. I like to get coop coffees because they don't have the quality of mop water, like most places do. But two oz. of coffee was too big of a deal to let go. Every coop where I used to live gave free refills. These are the same places where people whine endlessly over the profit mindedness of corporations and their greed, and then they'll hold back on filling a coffee cup. Then they'll wax on and on about healthy diets, yet when I drive or walk by the back of the stores nearly half the employees will be outside at one time or another smoking. And then they'll pull shit like this when someone brings in their own container for coffee? The Burnsville one and the Wedge never made a big deal about this sort of crap. I guess overall I didn't like the tone or the attitudes of the people I talked to either. When I asked for help they seemed sort of elitist or standoff-ish. Maybe it was the days or maybe it was me, but I know when I'm around friendly people and I'm being treated like a human, I think most people do. The coffee thing twice was the limit for me. Tell me guys...two ounces of coffee...TWICE. Was it worth losing a customer over? read more

The food is lovely- expensive, but lovely. I had my toddler with me, and two bags of food. I took my two bags, squirmy child, and the cart to my car. As I was bringing the cart back in, I was stopped by an employee and scolded about taking my own groceries out. Um...what? I was told that the carry-out people are to take the groceries out. Sorry, but I'm not going to wait on a busy weekend day with a kid for someone to take my two bags out. I'm happy being self-sufficient and using a cart instead. Problem with that? I'm impressed! Bottom line - the meat and dairy here kick Whole Foods' ass, kick it up and down the street! That meat counter. Damn! I'm in yes-I-eat-quadrupeds-and-birds heaven. Selection is extensive, husbandry techniques and quality is better than Whole Foods, local vendors are hugely represented and the butchers are informative and actually skilled. This is my FIRST stop for animal protein. Seriously freaking good. And good prices - grass fed sirloin for kebabs didn't run significantly higher price than (eek!) sirloin from dreary grocery chain. Big HOWEVER - Whole Foods still manages to be where the produce is at. There were some nice thing in produce, so if something looks good, grab it, but you can't really plan your produce buy. Now - for someone who eats a lot of questionably originated crap in restaurants, I'm a perimeter shopper and meat snob when it comes to what comes into my own house. I don't mind spending more, but I also am sensitive to being gouged. This place is fairly priced. The prices are on par with other co-ops, but the layout, the sale items, the endcap discounts - they're all very competitive. Very nice setup. If you're a perimeter shopper too, you'll agree that the meat and dairy are worth an extra trip from WF or farmer's market. read more

This place is awesome. The new Richfield location is clean, bright, and spacious. I especially appreciate the amount of locally sourced products, the reserved parking for parents, and the banana program for the little ones (a free banana for your kid to eat while you grocery shop!). I am surprised to hear the amount of people who have complaints about the staff at this location. I have been shopping at this location for the past five months and have always found the staff to be extremely nice, friendly and helpful! My favorite things to buy here are the dark chocolate peanut butter cups in the bulk section and the fava bean cous cous salad from the deli (sooo good!!!)! Thank you Lakewinds! Like Whole Foods, only better. You will leave with the same sticker shock as at Whole Foods but you will have more locally sourced items. I really like the vitamin and skincare section. Some of the produce I would buy elsewhere as I find it overpriced however, it is a luxurious shopping experience. Delightful! I have not had the experience, as others have noted, of being shamed for carrying out my own groceries. In fact, last time I was there, I would have liked help carrying my bags out (even though there were only 2). read more

Horrible service! I placed an online order through their website and the groceries were delivered last night. I did this because I needed ground beef for a recipe last night and didn't have time to drive to get it. I paid $15 extra in fees and tips for delivery from this particular store and my meat arrived in poor condition. There were gray spots on the top and in the middle (refer to pics- the one with the long horizontal brown area is the view of the inside of the meat after I scraped off part of the top), indicating that it was not fresh. I then had to drive across town to another store to buy fresh ground beef at 9:30pm last night. I went to Lakewinds today to return the order and they told me that they do not accept Instacart returns and that I would need to do the return via the Instacart platform. I explained that this information was not on their website or I would not have driven through rush hour to make the return. The woman who assisted me showed me their internal store documents stating that they don't accept Instacart returns. I explained that this is of no help to customers who lack access to the internal store binder. I asked for help with figuring out how to do a return via Instacart and I was declined assistance. I asked for a manager and he was similarly unhelpful. Neither of them expressed any sympathy for what had happened or indicated that the store ought to put this information on their website online ordering page. The reason I was willing to pay $15 for delivery from this coop was to support a small business and coop in particular, but after the poor customer service I received today, I will be order through Amazon.com where I get free delivery and consistently positive customer service. Just a simple gesture of validation or kindness could have saved me as a customer (I have shopped there for years), but two employees failed to provide either of those things, so my purchases at Lakewinds will now be limited to occasional sale items. read more

A very rude assist. Mgr. that is not very smart and has nothing better to do than wander around and harass customers - repeatedly. Very rude - not sure of his name, but he is short and very pudgy, and again - very rude. He probably is not able to do a real task, so he just wanders around and harasses customers. Lakewinds has some items that cannot be found elsewhere. Sometimes sale items are affordable, but usually can get most non-sale items elsewhere for lower prices. And given the rudeness of the one person there, I will be shopping there less and only buying sale items and spend as little time as possible there. We have been members of Lakewinds for 6 years and have always been impressed with quality of produce and meat and the graciousness of the staff. Several years ago when I was a new mom, I had almost finished my shopping when my 6 week old baby completely melt down. I was standing in an aisle with a full cart of food and a wailing baby. The cheese monger approaches me and offered to help. She rang up our groceries, bagged then and brought them to my car while I nursed my baby. It was a kindness I will never forget and helped to make us Lakewinds super fans. read more

They have many of the same great/delicious options as whole foods but with a more local feel and a bit smaller (which is nice). Staff is always very helpful and friendly. This is our neighborhood grocery. We still go to Sam's Club or Trader Joe's but Lakewinds is part of our weekly grocery run. Peace coffee on site is an extra treat especially on my way to work in the morning - less expensive than Starbucks and no lines! read more
