It's more than just a boutique... it's a warm, welcoming little pocket of joy in the middle of the Mission. One of the reasons I keep coming back (beyond the incredible gift selection and stylish, inclusive clothing) is because of the owner. She's owned this family-run business for over twenty years, and you can feel the love and intention behind everything in the store. She's one of the kindest, most humble people I've ever met, and every interaction with her reminds me why supporting small businesses matters so much. What really blows me away is that she always remembers me. Every time I walk in whether it's been a month or six she greets me by name and asks about my family. She remembers the little things: that my best friend I normally shop with here got engaged, that my dad fell ill last year, even what kinds of gifts I usually gravitate toward. It's such a rare and genuine connection, and it makes shopping there feel personal in a way that big stores could never replicate. Beyond the amazing people, the store itself is beautifully curated. You can find gifts for everyone !! From toddlers to grandparents, quirky coworkers to stylish best friends. Every item feels handpicked, and the range is both thoughtful and playful: hilarious greeting cards, cozy home goods, funky socks, beautiful clothes in all sizes, and unique accessories you won't find anywhere else. Like the original Wilkes, Button Down offers beautiful Italian and European styles, along with famous brands and their own private label. They also carry luxurious accessories for men and women. I also got to chat briefly with Sarah (who Im assuming is the owner) who is very cute and friendly! We we talking about Hello Kitty most of the time but she definitely has love for her boutique. While leaving the store I also noticed that they carry a small collection of Harajuku lovers up at the register. I will definitely make Ruru one of my regular boutiques I visit when I visit Haight St in the near future.

The lone employee on the day I visited was also to be found there scrolling through things on the internet. I'd come in looking for a particular jeweler's work. Eventually, I made my way to the sales person and asked if they were a stockist for so-and-so. The employee answered in the affirmative at about the same time as I spied the jewelry in question. The employee neither offered to show me any of the items under glass nor shared much about the jeweler's technique. (Never mind, I had done my homework before coming in, so was well-versed in the methods of this particular artist.) The selection in question was tidy, so I asked if the jewelry maker also makes custom work. The response was: 'Well, they can't make you whatever they want, but...' Um, what? If I'm asking after a Picasso, then why would I expect it to look like a Chagall? Also: If the store only stocks ruby and sapphire rings in size 7, or whatever, and I'd like a ring only fashioned with rubies in a size 9, then that's called 'custom'. (Unless, of course, the artist has a cache of exactly what I'd like located in an atelier somewhere.) In short, the shop is pretty as a postcard, but the customer service is fairly paltry. Be prepared to do most of the verbal footwork during the interaction, if you do decide to make the journey in to Reliquary.

I told her that shouldn't apply to this purchase and it's disgraceful to be charging 4X the price and not be willing to refund. I was told that's the price you pay for being able to "touch the items" vs online purchases and she refused to budge on the store credit. DO NOT SHOP HERE!
