I ended up doing a lot of holiday shopping here this year, first some holiday stationary and then a bunch of small gifts for friends and family. They always have something wonderful for any occasion and their gift card selection is really great. Much of their merch is customized or hand done - you just won't find a store quite like this around. Walking by after New Year's I noticed they have a sign that says "Store Closing Sale." You hope this means they are happily retiring. Whatever the case, this is a good time to support the transition of a longtime business here. Can I just say I had an amazing experience, both to my eye, and to my heart after I visited to this store, called Terrasol. I was attending a conference close by when I looked up searching for a Christmas store. I took a quick Uber over and I had the pleasure of meeting Steven and another associate of his. What a delight and I left feeling so good I recently lost my mother-in-law and last year my mom, and so walking into his store, feeling the spirit of Christmas just made my day. I'm still smiling , so if you have an opportunity go in (do it!) and meet him and see his cool store it's not just for Christmas. It's for every big holiday. I love Terrasol & all their beautiful objets d'art. Spoke to the owners Alberto & Stephen just yesterday evening and learned that they are being forced to move. This is outrageous! The property managers in place and the building owner are greedy buzzards. Terrasol shop is moving to Polk & Sutter Streets after January 31, 2020. Still on Polk but towards the lower Polk area. The owners are the sweetest people. They've been at this shop and this location for 14 years. Sad to see them move & the reason why they're forced to do so because the building requires retro fitting (although no official papers have been sent through the neighborhood...).. Terrasol is a Nob Hill neighborhood gem! The owners are great and always happy to help find the perfect gift any time of year for any occasion. The store itself is pure magic!! It's not very big, but somehow you could spend hours here and still not see it all. Everything is organized to perfection, so you can quickly find what you need if you're in a rush - but why would you ever want to rush through this place?? Take your time and explore! The crew in here is always so nice. Why wouldn't they be? They're perpetually surrounded by good cheer like it was a retail version of "Holiday Inn", that old Bing Crosby movie where he plays a reluctant innkeeper who only opens his place up on public holidays for big musical productions performed for the guests. That is so World War II. Anyhow, I think this quaint-beyond-precious shop is open year round, but I admit I only find myself here during the Christmas season and sometimes Halloween. It starts with the inflatable snowman at the door and enough twinkly lights to choke Con Ed. A bevy of white artificial trees are festooned with all kinds of ornaments from the excessively ornate to the vintage-looking. I tend to veer toward the latter when it comes to my tree because I like the irony of hanging little dogs and cats rather seeing real ones peeing under one (photo: http://bit.ly/2hh9XHb). I stopped by Terrasol today while getting some sunshine walking down California Street. I love the selection of candles and quirky mugs, but they have much more than that! I purchased a mug and spoke with employees Stephen and Alberto who have been running the shop for 11 years (Terrasol moved to this location in February 2020). Alberto was painting a beautiful Pride sign at the register as I checked out and told me that he paints the signs he sells in the store. I will definitely stop by for a candle next time I am in the area. read more

Chanced upon Terrasol when I was heading down from Trader Joe's - a great find for an amazing selection of Christmas ornaments. I took my wife in and the owners were really friendly & helpful. Bargains? None at all but some really special stuff you probably wouldn't find elsewhere & especially compared to the sad state of affairs the pathetic shell of Gumps has become. I believe Terrasol has signed a longer term lease so hopefully it all works out well for these 2 guys . They have really cute merchandise here but they make you knock on the door to enter and they are usually pretty unfriendly. The place gives off bad vibes to me. I was only in the store for a short amount of time this morning with our friends since we were on a time constraint, but I was completely blown away!! This store's decorations are absolutely a sight to see during this holiday season. Absolutely beautiful! Not to mention that the owner was super duper friendly. I couldn't help but wonder how long it must've taken to set everything up. Sad to see such a wonderful establishment having to find a new spot in the near future due to a much needed building retrofit, which I know is super difficult in this market. This adorable shop is just around the corner from my apartment - it's such a great staple of the neighborhood. During the holidays they have an amazing array of ornaments and decor, and throughout the year they have adorable gifts, SF themed items, greeting cards, and more! The owners are super nice. This is a gem of a business that needs our support - they just moved to this location from Polk (technically they were forced to move out from their last location) and rent must be sky-high compared to what they were paying before. So glad that they managed to stay open and please try to shop here (especially if you live in the neighborhood) for gifts, cards, and more. I first found this little shop last year just before Christmas when I was looking for an ornament for a party. They had such unique blown glass ornaments that it was hard to choose (especially since the prices were so reasonable). I discussed it with an employee and he helped me pick out a great one! I ended up with a martian in a spaceship for less than $20 and it was very high quality. I was drawn in here the other night before going to Amelie right next door for wine. This time Halloween was beckoning. Blown glass Halloween ornaments, ceramic skull plates, and a cool skull decanter/shot glass set really stood out for me. I was also tempted by the assortment of candles they carry every day. I'll be going back to pick up a set of six mini blown glass ornaments that were only $12! Talk about an incredible array of arts and crafts. Lots of fantastic Mexican and other Latino creations as well as pop art, candles and other chotchkes you just have to see. It's hard to find a true class act on Polk St :) The owners and employees at Terrasol are not only fun and very helpful, but extremely artistic.I was truly inspired by the hundreds of ornaments which were part of 2010's holiday installation. "It takes us a full 4 days to get everything up" I was informed on a recent visit a few weeks ago. I wanted to buy EVERYTHING! Now that Halloween is approaching, I am reminded that I never wrote a review for this wonderful store! I used to live nearby and would walk on Polk St. regularly - but since having moved away it was definitely a nice surprise to just happen upon it. I was in Terrasol foreverrrrr! They had the biggest, most unique and magical selection of Halloween decorations and things -- as well as other charming items. I really wanted to buy something, but I was also on more of a budget at the time and really couldn't justify it. One of the owners - I believe his name is Alberto - didn't seem irritated and didn't pressure me. I just looked to my hearts content, took lots of photos of things with my iPhone and we struck up a conversation. He was very warm and made me like Terrasol even more. If I still lived nearby I'd be there all the time! I'm going to try to go back before Halloween is up this year - and this time I'll get something. I also really wanted to see the store for Valentine's Day and Christmas...I'll have to make a point to do that as well. I think I'd be like a kid in a candy store! read more

Stopped by this place on a much needed get away (go to MyMy for breakfast up the street) the owner was so friendly and nice and I really hope it made his day when my friend and I came in and ended up chatting him up and getting some cute gifts to take home the candles here are unique and the sock wall is to die for. When this shop first came to Larkin St. I gave it 6 months. Upscale gifts and gorgeous, unique flowers don't exactly fit in with the crackheads and prostitutes who frequent the neighborhood. But after a couple years in business this place has actually helped bring life back to a formerly desolate stretch between the "Tender" and the "Nob". Owners Steve and Alberto are so sweet and friendly and embody a true artistic spirit that shines through in every nook and cranny of this store. This is the perfect shop to find that unique, sophisticated gift or holiday-themed trinket to give as a hostess gift or for a good friend's birthday. The flowers they choose are so beautiful - not the stock roses and lilies you usually find - and if you tell Steve what kind of arrangement you're going for and your budget he will make a simply stunning arrangement. These guys make their bread and butter doing lobbies and floral design for businesses and buildings but lucky for us this shop exists to complement their artistry. Speaking of art, they support local artists and frequently feature items on consignment or host art shows to showcase the talents of others. While parking can be a challenge in this neighborhood, it's worth the trip to check out this little wonderland in the midst of crackville. And visit often since their stock is constantly changing and is reflective of each season or holiday. I have to hold myself back from visiting too often...with so many unique and wonderful items Terrasol can really put a dent in a fellow's bank account! read more

Votivo candles within walking distance! No longer do I have to trek to Fillmore or Castro to find these wonderful candles! These guys are sweeties and the first time I visited, they were having a little Halloween Haunt! They're homemade paper mache black cats and crows (with real feathers!) were the coolest and SO affordable. One of the fellow's mom was visiting too, and she had her newly adopted giant puppy along. When i walked into Terrasol from the rough Larkin street location, I felt like I entered a wonderful fantasy-land! I couldn't believe this existed. They had such an incredible variety of items, from day of the dead to their personal (and REALLY good) art to vintage toy robots. This isn't an area I visit often, but I will most definitely return. Wow, I can't believe I only stumbled upon this store 3 years after living here. This cute boutique is as cute as it gets. Everything is awesome here: gift cards, lamps, hooks, soap dishes, candles.
