It's always a pleasure to read about a restaurant you haven't tried, go and visit it and discover a new favorite for future dining excursions. This is the case with Lama Mediterranean Cuisine in The Woodlands. My wife had a doctor's appointment at 2 pm and we live about 35 miles away, I figured go early and get some lunch and then get to the doctor with a full stomach. We put the address into the GPS and pulled right up in front of the restaurant. While it was nice weather outside, we decided to sit indoors and I am glad we did because I noticed some diners outdoors were batting away insects. Our server, Abraham came quickly and took our drink orders while we studied the menu and admired the beautifully decorated interior of the restaurant. Blue is a strong color they have used effectively, there is a large dinging room for a big group just off the main dining room and a bar at the far west end. We ordered some appetizers and they came out quickly, We had a small order (4 pieces) of the Fried Hallumi Cheese and also Kebbeh. Both came with a small sampling of cucumber, tomato and red onion which paired well. The Kebbeh had the most fragrant seasoning, I believe a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and clove. The serving sizes were ample and after trying some we both agreed to save room for the entrees we ordered, my wife had the Gyro Sandwich and I had the Chicken Shawerma, both were wrapped in a super fresh pita that had to be house made. My wife had the regular fries and I had sweet potato which were cooked perfectly, so light and crisp. We couldn't resist ordering some baklava to go, my wife thought walnut sounded good but our server said he felt the cashew was the best so we ordered that. When he brought it out, he said that there were 2 pieces of the cashew but he also added one of walnut at no charge, what a treat. We will be coming back here, the restaurant overall was super fresh and clean, service was great and the food was fantastic. read more

I finally visited this Greek/Mediterranean/Persian restaurant on a Sunday for lunch to see why it's rated so high. Inside is elegant and well decorated with glass tables and large rugs everywhere. Looking at the menu, it's a mix of various cuisines, but they do separate out the Persian dishes which are somewhat similar to Mediterranean ones just cost a little more and have different spices altogether. If you visit on weekend nights, you'll likely get to see belly dancing here. I settled on the chicken shawarma wrap, even though it costs a few dollars more than the chicken pita. It does come with one side for $21,and I chose French fries. It tasted pretty good, but you do have to get used to the pickles which gives the wrap an overall weird taste. These are not your typical pickles which go well with American fried chicken sandwiches. A Mexican tortilla is used as a wrap here instead of the bread they use for wraps in other Mediterranean restaurants in Houston. If I wanted a chicken burrito, i would have dined at a Mexican restaurant. The fries are previously frozen ones and lightly seasoned and really only decent when hot. Unfortunately this is one of those restaurants which takes care of newly seated guests and large parties but ignores the tables of 1. Not my fault I only have one in my party. They seated me in the corner and another gentleman came about 20 mins after me and I never saw a waitress go to his table after being served his entree either. The chef or kitchen hand is the one who brings out the entree from the kitchen here and my waitress never showed up until they try to take your plate away. However, I was still eating and also waiting for 10 mins on a refill. I can only eat so much before needing to take a sip of a liquid...but if you come with a party of one here..you will likely be waiting awhile. The lady taking my plate wasn't even my waitress either. Meanwhile, for the gentleman sitting outside alone, I observed his drink to be empty a while and they weren't refilling his either. He finally leaves and goes to a cash register to pay. What? A semi-fine dining elegant spot with mandolin playing in the background has a cash register where you have to go up to pay? What is this world coming to? With these prices, they should roll out red carpet from the front door to your table each time you walk in....and surely make the waitress do something for once and take your card and swipe it herself at the cash register which shouldn't be in the middle of the damn room. Sort of defeats the purpose of being elegant. Did I mention the glasses are plastic here too. If they want to be refined, try at least using glasses for drinks. read more

This is a nice place to relax and stay awhile. We got a few different platters & some hookah. Typically, we sit on the outside patio but the inside is lovely as well. You'll love the Mediterranean ambience of this restaurant that offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is packed with delicious food so you may have to sample several entrees. We chose the Lamb shank, Gyro platter, and Lama Shrimp appetizer and everything was perfect! The waiter, Alejandro was very attentive and made sure that our order was satisfactory. We drank Lemonade which had a taste of something that I can't place, but it added flavor that we loved! Boxing up to go was a breeze and our waiter packed it all up for us. For dessert we had cheesecake and I'm telling you right now...that cheesecake was Devine!!! Best we've ever had! The tea is complimentary and sets the meal in place. It's kind of a pretty place, somewhat eclectic. I like the colorful rugs they have down on the floors, as it really does brighten up the place. A nice man was eating with his young daughter behind us and he turned around and said, "You have to try the tea!" And you know, he was absolutely right. I'm not sure what all is in that blend but it was really enjoyable, something I'd order next time. For our entrées we ordered Moussaka and then a platter which combined Gyro meat with both a beef and a chicken Shawarma. We love garlic and so we asked for extra garlic sauce. Plenty for next day lunch leftovers! :-) Dessert was Tiramisu and Cheesecake, liked the Tiramisu the best of those two. MMM MMM MMM DELISH. i was never a big fan of mediterranean cuisine BUT I THINK ITS BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER AS GOOD AS THIS ONE. Im converted. tldr: Everything was super fresh and flavorful. The hummus, for starters, was amazing, especially when paired with the warm fluffy pita. Lamb had such a complex flavor profile but still allowed the lamb to shine. Was super tender and you can tell it was fresh. The sides were also really good. The yogurt sauce (tzatziki) was superb. It had the right amount of sourness as I expected. Was in the Woodlands on New Year's Eve and this place came up for hookah! Not many places out here at all that have it so I was excited! They have a cute patio with all of the greenery and scenery. They have happy hour. Two drinks, hookah and bottled water was $41 including gratuity. I had a couple of drinks that were STRONG. This is a family owned business so you'll meet the family. The bartender today was the daughter in law and she was attentive to me while I was on the patio with one other person and they had a pretty full house. Stopped here a few Sunday's ago for lunch. They weren't very busy so we were seated immediately. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. The decor inside is very overwhelming, they have a lot going on. The food however, is absolutely delicious. The chicken shawarma wrap I had was so fresh and flavorful, paired with the Greek salad it was stellar. We also had a dip and these other beef filled grape leaves, I'm not sure what they were called but both dishes were very good. If I'm ever in the area, I'll definitely be back! read more

I am from MD and staying at the Embassy for a week for work and had just checked in. Tired from flying and came on yelp to order something for dinner. Did not realize that the hotel didn't have a shuttle after ordering and I called the restaurant to cancel the order as it would be too far of a walk from the hotel. We came in at 9:30pm on a Saturday (they close at 10). The team was warm and attentive--service was truly 10/10--and the flavors were excellent. We ordered several items and spent about $200 with tip. That said, some of the food (apps included) arrived lukewarm and didn't taste as fresh as we expected, and everything was brought out at once, which made it hard to enjoy each dish hot. Drinks were just okay. Constructive note: if the kitchen is open until 10, plates should still come out hot and fresh for late-seated guests paying full price; otherwise, please post a clear last-call so expectations are set. We'd likely come back mainly for the belly dancing--and we'd plan to arrive earlier--because the service and flavors show real promise. read more

Wanted to try something new in the area and came across this when initially I was going to steakhouse place in the same area. I liked the name so that got my attention the moment we entered the restaurant there was extreme happiness and care. The waitress staff was remarkable and very informative. I ordered the premium lamb chops was about 5 chops and boy was it tender. Best lamb I've had in my life. Upon eating the owner came and introduced hisself and told us a bit of the history of the making of the business he's a cool guy. Love the belly dancers lol A-1 hookah as well!! Kitschy decor aside, Lama Mediterranean offered a lively environment for a Saturday evening dinner by way of a fun and engaging belly dancer. She did a great job getting the restaurant patrons in on the fun and was really personable and friendly. The food was hit or miss throughout the meal. I liked the kick of the spicy hummus, but those who ate the regular hummus felt it had an "odd" taste. The beef shawarma was tender and tasty. However, the shrimp dish was disappointing, made with teeny tiny and tough shrimp, but the rice, served with the dish, was delicious. I was most looking forward to the gyros platter. While the meat had a nice flavor, I felt it was too thinly sliced, which made the bite less satisfying. I'm glad we tried Lama Mediterranean, and, for groups looking for something different, it's worth a visit when the belly dancer is there. read more

Went here for lunch recently! The place is incredibly beautiful, decorated with lots of greenery and detailed furniture + decor. Tables are designed to accommodate different party sizes. Service is great, and it didn't take too long for our orders to arrive. The spicy hummus is good! I like that the spice doesn't completely mask the flavor of the hummus itself. The baba ghanouj had a strong smoked flavor, though we were expecting bits of eggplant instead of a thoroughly blended dip. The pita bread was alright, though it may be heavy for some since they're pretty thick. The mixed sambosa was ok, but asides from the cheese we couldn't tell the fillings apart. Didn't really like the kind of salsa that comes with it either. As for our main dishes, we ordered the Persian Eggplant and Mixed Grill. Their serving of eggplant was smaller than expected, and I think our plate only had 2 slices. Tasted alright but was a little bland and soggy. The grilled beef was cooked perfectly, but the kofta was salty and the chicken was dry. Was expecting the rice to be more flavorful too. To end the meal, we had some tea and rice pudding, which tasted good! It is a pretty big serving in my opinion so maybe leave some space for it if you'd like to order a serving lol. Loved that I could taste the rosewater in every bite. Overall, it was a good experience, but we were definitely expecting more in terms of flavor. If you'd like to dine at a beautiful location with friends and or/family and try Mediterranean cuisine, then I think you should give Lama a try! This was our second time ordering from this location, we ordered Lamb chops with Rice , Chicken kebabs with Fries and Salad. Everything was delicious and freshly made. More Onions and Bell Peppers would be nice served with the Kebabs. The sauces tasted weird, we didn't use them. I have to start up by saying that I was planning on giving this place a 4 star review but because of the service that we received in the end, I decided to bump up to a 5 star-- take that as you may. First of all-- the ambience of the place is terrific. I love the vibes, I love how earthy and green and wholesome it felt, it did not feel sterile like I feel like a lot of restaurants are feeling lately and it's definitely not the move. I wish they would have had crayons or something for kids because I think it's a family friendly place, so I would have liked something to keep my toddler occupied (although the water wall did the trick as well). I mean, I don't go into restaurants expecting them to entertain my child but we really appreciate when there are children menus like coloring pages with crayons. They did however, being a 3 ring binder of a menu to read through. I got the 5 pack of kibbe to share, although to be honest, I really didn't want to because I love kibbe. They were one of the top 2 I've had in Houston and the surrounding area. The mixed grill was delicious and my husband and I split it, I cut up some of the meat and put it in the small pita pockets that they bought to make little sandwiches. The rice was cooked perfect as well. It was a good size portion. The one thing I wish that they would do better is the garlic sauce because it's more like a garlic tasting mayo then it is an actual garlic sauce and the texture is not correct but it did the job just fine. I actually had to request more of it because what they give is very small but that's all right. But I hope it's better next time we go! I also ordered something off children menu on a Wednesday and it was supposed to Half the price on a Wednesday but they charged us full price. This would have taken it down a star normally because they should be as advertised, although it could have been a misunderstanding or just over looked. I might be more lenient because somebody came out and asked me what my favorite color was, and she brought that color candle on my cake which was the sweetest touch. Christina and Doris sang Happy Birthday which was so incredibly nice, and I just thought that was so perfect. I love teacups and we got the green tea at the end have our meal and it was really cute. I thought that it was so considerate that Christina brought ice for my toddler so she could drink the tea as well. I'm going to bring people here on their birthday because I love when restaurants sing happy birthday and bring cake-- it's literally the cutest. The food here was phenomenal! Do not let the prices scare you, because the plates are priced very fair for the amount of food they serve you. The food we got ended up being enough to feed us for multiple meals (we took lots of it to go, haha!) My partner and I got the mixed shawarma plate, the lamb chops, and the veggie appetizer sampler (I forgot the actual names from the menu). Each item on those plates was incredible and cooked perfectly. The lamb chops were melt in your mouth tender, the baba ganoush was smoky & savory, the salad was lemony and delicious, and the chicken shawarma was tender and cooked just right. Oh and the garlic sauce, YUMM. There's honestly so much more I could say about how great the food was, but you get the gist. Now let's talk about the ambiance. The place is beautiful inside! The decor is great with many places for photo ops. We were pleasantly surprised to walk in to music and a belly dancer on the Friday night that we went. The music was really loud, but we asked to sit on a quieter side so that we could talk. We stayed for dessert and hookah after dinner and enjoyed their beautiful patio which is adorned with lights and comfortable seating. The service was also splendid! Our server whose name I believe was Sheila was super sweet, gave great suggestions, and was very accommodating to us throughout the night. They also gave us a complimentary tea to end the night! Finally, we met the owner Ali, and he gave us some history around the restaurant and was also very kind and fun to chat with. I brought my mother here for a belated Mother's Day dinner and we both absolutely loved this place! We ordered the halloumi and stuffed grape leaves for appetizers and had the roasting chicken for two as our main entree. More than enough food and we ended up with 3 to-go boxes. Everything was delicious! The service was outstanding, from our friendly and skilled bartender to our lovely server, Doris. This place is a must-visit for anyone looking for quality Mediterranean food and shisha (the watermelon mint shisha was wonderful). Food - we ordered their HUMUS which came with Pita bread. The Pita bread seems pretty interesting as it had a sesame seed taste to it. Similar to a Chinese dessert. For our main course, we had CHICKEN SHAWARMA and PERSIAN JOOJEH DICED CHICKEN. The diced chicken was very juicy and flavorful. The plate looks very appealing. It came with Saffron rice, tzatziki sauce, and other minced Veggies. Despite how the chicken tasted, my Saffron rice was pretty disappointing. It tasted like burnt metal. I even had one clump of rice stuck together. The chef should have picked that off. This plate came with one pita bread, but you couldn't get to it until the very end as it was sitting under the chicken. This should have been placed on the top to keep it dry. But perhaps it was for better appeal. I give this dish a 3/5. My wife had the Chicken Shawarma. She said the chicken was juicy also, but it lacked condiments as you normally would expect from a Persian restaurant. She rated this about a 3/5. They gave us free tea and Baklava after our meal. What a pleasant treat! 5. Cleanliness - our table and dining area appears clean. No complaints here. Overall, the staff were nice and it was great having entertainment there with free treats at the end. However, the food was not the best Persian food that we've experienced in Houston. Could be the cooks on staff that particular day. UPDATE: So after speaking to my friend, It seems that burnt rice is a thing. It's called tahdig rice. So when you're at a Persian restaurant, and they serve Saffron rice, you can specifically request for no tahdig rice. I didn't know that was a thing, but I'm glad my friend told me. Wow! What an unexpected experience. My husband and I had to take our daughter to a doctor's appointment in the area and were looking for someplace to have a healthy lunch. We saw a sign for Lama and decided to give it a try. It was so beautiful inside! Our daughter was in awe. We loved the complimentary mint tea. My husband and I ordered one of the dishes for two that came with two sides and two appetizers. Then we had three types of meat and rice with pita bread. What a great experience! You really should try Lama if you're near The Woodlands. Everything was superb. We did a family style meal and received giant portions for 4 people (more than enough for leftovers for several days). This is a good recommendation if you can't decide what to get (their menu is quite large). While everything was tasty, I was particularly impressed with the kibbeh and the hummus. Additionally, the lamb, beef, and chicken were each juicy and cooked to perfection. During the meal, we learned they have a belly dancer on certain evenings and live music.
