Receptionist, was Rude, and hung up on me today... Why,? I got my dates mixed up for the appointment and failed to come in on the appointment day. I called back and asked when can I get back on the appointment schedule. The receptionist said on the phone to me, You missed your appointment and now you are at the bottom of the list. This was very Rude. Her attitude is what I am talking about. I have been with this Dentist since she started her practice. I feel I have supported her growth, and enjoyed the visit to her office. She is a great Dentist and very professional with me but her receptionist showed no Compassion, Made me feel like I am a bother to be dealt with. I called back and asked again, Again she was Rude, I explained why, but that seemed to be not acceptable , She sent me a bill for the missed appointment and that is when I called back. Which is fine, I did miss the appointment BUT to be treated like I am a old lady who is not part of the perfect world of the Receptionist world of things going just the way she wants it is not how you treat your customers from the beginning of the practice. What I am talking about is Discrimination for mature adults, Because I do not have all the latest technology at my instant finger tips. In less than a year, my wife's filling fell out and needed to be redone entirely as an emergency procedure. My filling was somewhat bugging me too. I felt that food would always get stuck there; flossing was challenging also. Well, now I know why (see the picture attached). I will let you be the judge of the work quality here. I had irritated gums from dental caps since my teens. The caps also looked unnatural due to metal underneath the porcelain. You live with it for 30 years and come to think it's normal. I switched to Lamorinda Dental about 2-3 years ago when my previous dentist did not take my new dental insurance. I was satisfied with the general care at Lamorinda Dental, but I was hesitant when they first suggested I replace the caps. There was nothing wrong with it! It took a year of gentle nudging from Lamorinda Dental before I came around. The work was excellent and the difference was night and day. The new caps look natural and the coloring matches my teeth. My gums are no longer irritated and don't bleed every time I floss. Both my wife and I go to Lamorinda Dental and we're both very satisfied with our experiences. read more

As expected, the reply from this dentist included information about my medical history and the procedure in question, which I never disclosed in my review. This is at minimum unethical and likely to have violated my privacy. Do you want your dentist to post your private dental information on line like she just did? Read her other responses too and you will see the lack of respect for your medical privacy. Simply put, I offered to pay for all services. I never asked for anything free so that is a false statement. I made the appointment several weeks in advance and the receptionist promised to call me back if there was going to be any issues. Shelby informed me upon my arrival that there was going to be a charge. This is poor service. Julia did not ask me what happened; instead, I listened to how she lost money too by not filling this appointment slot. There was never an acknowledgement that maybe you should have called me as promised so I could have made other plans. But read her reply again, her business is more important than your time. A reasonable expectation is that the dental office is able to communicate with the "in-network" insurance company to validate one's coverage and financial responsibility. Any reasonable person would be leery if a dentist told you that they couldn't reach the insurance company that they joined to be a part of the network as she admits in her post. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence does it? For the next appointment, I even called the insurance company myself to confirm my coverage and then informed Shelby the same day. Julia is so consumed with her own "business" that she doesn't seem to understand that you don't make people feel comfortable when you tell them you can't even verify the coverage so you have a risk to pay the entire fee or go through weeks of insurance claim hassle. Like I said, I was fully covered for this procedure with an out-of-network dentist and it was confirmed within a day!! I asked the billing person at the new dentist how long it took and she said approx. 15 minutes to reach a live person. And yet Julia's office tried 3 times for more than 45 minutes each time as she stated. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence does it? Julia will call you rude when a patient asks reasonable questions and holds reasonable expectations. I was never rude so that is a false statement. She simply never bothered to listen to me. Read her response again and you will sense that she is afraid of Moraga residents cheating her out of her fees. This is exactly how she treated me. Her staff is always right, the patient is never heard. We all work hard so she is no more special than you or me. Not sure how working hard justifies the unethical disclosure and the ineffective service? Julia even now questions local residents having the "right" to post an honest review on YELP about a business in a town where we live and raise our family. read more

The short: It's expensive, and I think you can find good quality for less elsewhere. The long: I like Julia as I have for years--i have enjoyed our patient/doctor relationship-- but I have little patience for the office manager, Ginger. Most recently, I had a billing misunderstanding for a minor dental issue (bite adjustment)--i believed that dental work I was requiring was continued care related to previous filling work. Apparently, not, and I was billed almost $90 for a very short visit, but at the time I made the appointment, no mention of fees were made. When I displayed frustration, Ginger's hasteful response : "I feel like you're upset with me, and I did nothing wrong." (Woah, wtf?!) And then she followed up with a lecture ad nauseum (repetition is annoying) in a VERY PATRONIZING tone about how practitioners needed to be paid for their time. Not something I disagree with. I told her that I didn't appreciate being lectured, kindly took my invoice, and left, but felt belittled by her in this confused exchange. It seems like most negative reviews on Yelp for this Lamorinda Dental Practice are directed toward the actual 'business' of the practice, and in my opinion, that rests on Ginger. +2 for the Dr. -3 for the "Front Man" ("Dr. Hoang," save your *time*, and stop responding to yelp messages. The defensiveness is not helpful to your practice. It may be good to note, also, that criticisms of your practice seem to have a theme centered around your practice's defensive business behavior. It reads as insecurity on the part of your practice--community relations will suffer eventually if you don't change the approach. I say this as a friend, truly.) Edit: it should be noted that I was not apprised of a fee for the visit when I scheduled the appointment despite what the doctor claims below. I stand by my Yelp review, and re: Ginger and other tenants in the building--it has nothing to do with this event, but it proves and speaks volumes to what I have already discussed. I have seen a dozen dentists in my lifetime, and taken my children to at least two others: Dr. Hoang is simply the best dentist I have experienced. She is the most knowledgeable and most technically proficient, most informative, and least invasive. She has a quirky but friendly and warm style of interaction. She lives a healthy lifestyle (medical professionals are notoriously poor in this area) and will share information on this subject. Her practice runs on-time: I have had very little, if any, wait time. Another nice thing: she does the cleaning, which I appreciate - you pay for a dentist, you get a dentist. She has a technician that aids her, but she does it. Her facilities are spotless. Her COVID protocols made me feel completely safe. I would recommend Dr. Hoang without reservation to anyone!!!!!!! I want to address some of the things said in some negative reviews: Some have complained about services they thought should be free or less expensive. I want to share an example that refutes that perspective: I had a crown done by a previous dentist. She looked at it, and said that it should be corrected, and I confirmed that it was still uncomfortable. She told me she could do it, but would charge for the service, however she recommended that I return to the previous dentist and get the correction done there, which undoubtedly would be free. She did not push me to pay her to correct the problem, she in fact encouraged me to take the "free" route if it didn't make me uncomfortable to return to the previous provider. It was my choice to make, I had to weigh returning to the other dentist that I had moved on from, or paying for the work from the professional who was clearly more skilled. It would never occur to me to demand that she do this for free. I chose to return to the previous dentist, and while it was awkward, I was pleased to not have to pay for the service. As it turned out, while there was an improvement, the crown still was not entirely corrected, and in hindsight I probably should have paid to have Dr. Hoang fix it because I believe she is simply more technically proficient. But it was my choice to make as a consumer, and I chose to avoid the expense. I have seen some folks complain about the level of insurance coverage for her services. Dental insurance is complicated, and ultimately it is the patient's responsibility to get it right. Dr. Hoang is very good at explaining what is going on, and always gives you the option to defer a procedure, to come back later. I have taken this option a couple times, investigated the insurance, and made an informed decision in rescheduling for the appointment. I have found that usually insurance pays less than I want, but I have always chosen to take the service, albeit not necessarily all at the same time (in order to spread out the expense). I have found Dr. Hoang provides me with all the information I need to make an informed decision. I have always found Dr Hoang to be cheerful and friendly. However, she tells it to you straight. If you are late for an appointment, or make an emergency appointment and then no-show, you are going to hear about it. If she recommends something, and you don't do it, you are going to hear about it. If you routinely have cavities but don't floss, she will politely scold you. I have zero problem with any of this. People need to be accountable and less thin-skinned. If you no-show for an appointment, you are going to get charged. I find this completely fair. I have never felt pushed to have a procedure from Dr Hoang, quite the contrary. One example: I had a small cavity, she said she could fill it, or wait until next time to see if it got larger. I chose to wait, and in fact the next time it had not grown. We are keeping an eye on it, at some point it will need to be fixed, but I was given the choice to defer. Again, great and informative interaction. Second example, I had an old filling that eventually needed to be replaced. She told me about it, but said it should be watched but didn't need to be done now. Again, my choice, and I appreciated the information. If you are a responsible and polite patient, she is simply the best dentist you are going to find. But she doesn't take any nonsense. We live in a very privileged area, and I have seen people here be very unreasonable, especially with staff. She will have none of that. She would rather you go somewhere else. I find that refreshing. If you are entitled and demanding, go see someone else. If you want someone who is informative without being pushy or invasive, technically proficient, friendly but a straight shooter, then this is your dentist. read more

Called with an emergency and received a call back FOUR days (2 business days) later. In the meantime, another dentist in Lafayette stayed late to help me on a Friday and rearranged his schedule to accommodate a second appointment on Mondays. I had already seen him twice before this office even bothered calling me back. Doctor claims she has no record of my call or calling me back but claims to know exactly when I called and what the answering machine said at the time (we were very understaffed when you called and the message said so). Interesting and very telling inconsistency. Suggesting I have the wrong office? Very ridiculous. Despite attempts to blame me for not calling your cell phone, no actual response to the fact that your office waited 4 business days to call me back. I would understand if you weren't able to get to me on Friday but then I would have expected a prompt call back on Monday. Instead I heard from your staff the following Thursday. Stop trying to justify. It's bad customer service, period. read more

After my first visit to Dr Hoang and co., I can say this is most assuredly the BEST trip to the dentist you will ever have. All worries and doubts about the age-old dreaded dental visit are immediately assuaged upon arrival. -Kristin, the receptionist, greets you with an authentic smile and most accommodating demeanor in dealing with appointments, insurance questions, etc... -Danielle, the dental assistant is a total sweetheart and puts you at ease right away with her charmingly friendly attitude and self-assured competency. Everything is explained in great detail with clarity and compassion. Going in for a routine exam and cleaning I learned things about dental science, my own jaw shape and tooth structure that no other office would dream of making you privy to. Last but certainly not least, -Dr Hoang is the most intelligent, empathic, and amiable DDS I've encountered. She operates with outstanding thoroughness, honesty and pragmatism, and is genuinely interested in treating patients like family, getting to know you as a person far beyond the dentist's chair. She breaks down every step of the process, lets you know which issues are the most urgent and which procedures aren't immediately necessary without one iota of condescension. I just went back for another cleaning today and was reminded of how tranquil and comfortable the experience is. The whole staff treats you like an old friend- not just a patient or a source of income. I started here as a new patient, because my insurance changed from work. Though they didn't have an appt for a new patient for about a month, they guided me on what to do and what paperwork was to be filled out. When it was time for my appt, they showed me around the place, which I really enjoyed. Nice clean look, updated equipment, friendly staff. A dental cleaning is not as exciting as a Chicken and Jack sandwich from Biancas ,a tasty pizza from Patxi, or breakfast at Squirrels cafe. BUT... after just finishing up my first cleaning at LaMorinda Dental with Dr. Julia Hoang I felt compelled to login and post a review. When you first walk in you will do a double take, you will think 'wait a minute this is a spa and not the dental office.' And then once your senses begin to calm you'll notice that everything is fine, you are truly at a dentist office. This office is beautiful and very high tech. I'm impressed at all the little details and thoughtful design that clearly had the patient in mind. From the glasses of water offered, to the teeth brushing station, to the free wifi, to the sunny patio, to the comfortable chairs, and more. It is nice just to be in there. I've moved a bit over the years and have had about 6 different dentist, and hands down this place is the best I've experienced. Everything is state of the art which makes the actual dental work much more pleasant. If you travel this place feels like the "W Hotel" while other dental offices feel like some motel. Finally, the best part is how "homey" Dr. Hoang makes you feel. Even though this place is very modern you still feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Hoang took the extra time to clearly explain each step, involved me in the decision process, and educated me on why she recommended certain treatments. She is courteous and professional, she has equipped her new practice with state of the art viewing equipment that is not going to poison you with X-Ray, but gives details as well as an overview of your dental state, and will allow her to pinpoint the slightest problem... and prevent it from becoming big. She is a very good communicator and explains everything so the patient can make informed decisions. I'm not a procrastinator, but I am when it comes to going to the dentist. I didn't procrastinate too much this last time though - only put it off six years. I chose Lamorinda Dental solely based upon the great reviews here, and I'm so glad I did. Dr. Hoang is absolutely awesome, as are her entire supporting staff. My dental insurance was giving them the run around but Christen put up with them and got the job done. When I arrived for my appointment I was greeted by Danielle who was super friendly and gave me the tour (of their new and beautiful office). I barely settled in before they called me in for my appointment. Dr. Hoang is exceptionally thorough and taught me things about my mouth, teeth, and gums that I never knew. They spent so much time with me and always made sure I was informed and comfortable. If there were more dentists like Dr. Hoang I wouldn't be a tooth procrastinator. It was a great first visit and I will most certainly be going back to her on a very regular basis. I'm now a loyal patient. Unfortunately, it was raining when I came in for my early 730 am appointment so I couldn't the enjoy the awesome view on the balcony! However, from my dentist chair there was an amazing view of the hills. Danielle was excellent in accommodating my schedule and assisting with my X-rays. Dr Julia and Danielle worked as an excellent team! They made me feel very comfortable, explaining each step before they did it. Dr. Julia Hoang is the best dentist I have ever been to. Sadly for me, I've been to many of them and have had numerous fillings and crowns over the years. I had one dentist who I was happy with and I stayed with him over a decade, until he moved out of state. After that, I went to three other dentists trying to find a new one before I found Julia. On my first visit to another dentist in Orinda he tried telling me that I basically needed a whole new mouth! Julia is great, though. REALLY great. She beats all the other dentists I've gone to hands down. She explains what she is doing very clearly and thoroughly, at the beginning and along the way. I love that. Her office is clean and new and equipped with current technology. She is young enough to have been trained with the latest principles of dentistry but old enough to have the wisdom and experience you want in a dentist. I can't say enough nice things about her. Her assistant Danielle is wonderful, too. Oh, and there's a nice view out the window when you're sitting in the chair (not essential when picking a dentist but a nice perk)! I've been going to my previous dentist for approximately 15 years, and wanted a switch due to driving distance as well as insurance compatibility. Dr. Julia was highly recommended on Yelp so I gave her practice a try. Very glad I did. The area is beautiful, it's much closer to my home, and more important her practice is great. She has all the cutting-edge dental tech. in her office and she goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable. She explains everything she is going to do, and about to do, so that you know what to expect. Her primary concern is that you have a positive experience and that you're comfortable! Very disappointed! I had issues with the crown that came loose three times and yes I was frustrated when I called the office and spoke to Dr. Wong. No one should have their crowns fall off three times and if it does, then yes you have the right to complain be upset and call having an attitude. What I as a patient would like to hear is reassurance from my doctor and accountability. What I really don't want to hear is how unreasonable I am and be handed a letter saying me and my family will no longer be patients. Unacceptable behavior from an adult and more importantly from a doctor that suppose to care for you. If you assume responsibility for your patients health then stand by your work and be mature enough to take criticism and turn it into something positive, like becoming a better doctor. Giving your patient a letter at the time of a contentious visit was a grave error in judgement. read more

Following my reading of a glowing review from a co-member of the Lamorinda Moms group, I first went to see Dr. Julia Hoang in Orinda a couple of years ago. She was outstanding... very gentle, informative and thorough. I was so disappointed when I went to make a return appointment and she was no longer at the same office. But I no longer have to miss her... Dr. Hoang recently opened up her own office right here in Moraga! Her new office is beautiful, super sanitary and spa-like. Like Dr. Hoang, her assistant Danielle is warm and friendly. I just returned from a cleaning with Dr. Hoang and am reminded of why I was so impressed with her in the first place. She took the time to explain everything she was doing. She answered questions thoroughly without being pushy about products or services. She was concerned about my comfort. She considered past history and anticipated future potential issues. She inspired me to take special care of my sparkling, clean teeth! I would highly recommend trying Dr. Hoang for your next dental visit. If you live anywhere near Moraga, the bonus is the convenience of having her so close. Even if you don't live nearby, I recommend traveling to see Dr. Hoang for the excellent care. read more

Dr. Hoang is the BEST! I love the whole atmosphere of the office, it's so comfortable and cozy but extremely stylish, it feels like a boutique rather than a dentist's office. Every time I visit, Dr. Hoang is so thorough which is great, usually I find that dentists explain things in the most confusing terms and try to charge you as much as they can for each service. Dr. Hoang however, is honest and upfront, she won't try to overcharge or mess with you, she tells you just how it is. I love her staff too, Danielle is always so friendly and sweet, and you can tell that she genuinely cares about each patient's well being. They guarantee their work and are very careful in order to ensure you get the best treatment possible. So glad to have such kind and honest people working here in Moraga! read more

Dr. Hoang is phenomenal! The entire staff is a pleasure but really Dr. Hoang is what makes Lamorinda Dental Care by far one of the best. She is the first dentist that has been so personable and kind and patient. Anyone who is under her care is well taken care of. read more

Started seeing Dr Huong when we moved earlier this year. She does really great, detailed work. Exactly what I want from a dentist! The office is beautiful and has lots of high tech equipment. Ginger at the front desk keeps everything on track and even helped with my insurance and HSA stuff at the end of the year. My only criticism is that I prefer less talking during my cleanings. I know some people want to know step by step what you're doing, but I don't! Personal preference I'm sure. read more
