Another point of dissatisfaction has to do with billing. Paid in full ($3500) for Invisalign. Insurance, surprise, contributed $800, paid directly to Dr. Lothamer. Refused to refund the $800; had to use it as "credits" for teeth cleanings (I typically do not services beyond cleaning.) Guess that is one way to keep a client!

My problem with the office and one star review is that I was NEVER told by the rude receptionist (his wife) that they are out of network for my insurance (United Healthcare) and I was going to see Dr. Lothamer specifically for filling replacements that would cost me a lot of money out of pocket if they are out of network and I got a $700 bill after the work was done. I would have looked elsewhere for an in network dentist if the receptionist was upfront about being out of network. Long story short, his wife submitted the claims to my insurance incorrectly so that the entire claim check would be sent to our home instead of their office and we would have to deposit a check and then go and pay the dentist the entire claim amount. (I have never experienced this type of claim payment). The check was lost in the mail and I had to spend a lot of time on the phone with the insurance to reissue the lost check. While communicating this to the receptionist that it will be about 30-60 days until the insurance mails a $2,500 check, she tells me that I better pay immediately or I will be sent to collections or small claims court. I do not have the funds to pay the total claim amount and it was 100% her fault for filing the claim incorrectly in the first place and my personal amount owed I was $700. I'm not one to complain or leave bad reviews but the receptionist was very defensive, rude, and screamed on the phone and then said "we will see you in small claims court" and hung up. I did read reviews of how awful the receptionist was but didn't think much of it because she isn't the dentist and only handles the scheduling and accounting. Please understand that I am an even keeled person and the receptionist is very defensive and blame shifts and appears to be very narcissistic about taking accountability for her mishandling of my claim and I will now be searching for an in network office. Dr. Lothamer is great but his wife (receptionist) is awful!

I didn't have a dentist at the time and found Dr. Halvorsen through a friend. She was able to take me in pretty quickly, molded a permanent solution and put on a temporary tooth. When the permanent fix was ready she again got me in right away and now you can't even tell which tooth is the replacement!

Bad dental care when I was a child has left me with issues about dentists in general. Dr. Kolini is one of the few dentists with whom I've felt really comfortable. I recommend him unhesitatingly.

I had just been to my longtime dentist in may, and had had X-rays done at that time, so I knew my teeth were in good shape and I just needed cleanings. Lala insisted I get a full new X-ray panel that I had to pay $200 for. And after an hour in the chair I asked if we'd be doing the cleaning. The dentist came in and told me I had 3 cavities and deep gum pockets and ultimately wouldn't do a cleaning and gave me a referral to a periodontist. That didn't feel right so I left. After posting a review about this experience the office manager called and offered to refund the amount of the X-rays, which I would have been reimbursed through my hsa anyway, to take down my review, which I agreed to, and which is why I give the two stars. I upgraded my insurance plan to the regular ppo plan and went to Montclair dental. X-rays were covered and after about 10 minutes the dentist came in and told me my teeth and gums both looked great. They did the cleaning and told me they'd see me in 6 months. I suspect the dentists under the USA plan have to find other ways to generate income, and highly recommend paying the higher premium for legitimate dentists where you will ultimately get better care and pay less in the end.

I found Dr. Oh on Yelp when looking for a second opinion about a pair of gum grafts. (I'd received…read morea referral, had an initial evaluation from a large periodontist office, but found the office to be over-busy and impersonal.) At my first consultation with Dr. Oh, she strongly recommended that I space the grafts out by a year instead of getting them at once, and explained the procedure and my options clearly. Gum grafts are no one's idea of a good time, but she and her staff made the process as easy as it could be. I was incredibly grateful afterward that she had steered me to doing one side at a time (it's helpful to have one side of your mouth available to chew, after all!). Recovery went well, the before-and-after pictures show a dramatic improvement, and at my last cleaning my hygienist kept commenting on how good the graft looked ("so clean!" she said). Oh, and everything was cheaper than it would've been at the other place, too. I'll be heading back next year for the second graft, knowing I'm in good hands! Dr. Oh is clear and compassionate, and her staff is friendly and helpful.
