She charged too much and probed too hard and dislodged a filling that she then wanted to replace, apparently a joke between her and staff. She replaced it satisfactorily but we're not going back. She does not look like her advertising, at least hair coloring wise. Very, very strong marketing, but needs to focus more on word of mouth (no pun intended.) read more

This is a long overdue review that is only being written because after 7 years of not being a patient, Dr Ellis's office has started hounding me with text messages urging me to come in for dental care. I was a patient of Dr Ellis for several years when I lived in Orinda. During that time I was told that I had multiple cavities that needed filling. Trusting my medical professional, I had those cavities filled, despite not having any cavities in the years prior to moving to Orinda. When I moved from CA to TX, I recall there were still a few cavities that either needed filling or close monitoring. Upon arriving in TX, I found a local dentist and had a full workup done, being a new patient. I was expecting to be told I had cavities that needed filling but was given a clean bill of health. I asked about the cavities and my new dentist honestly looked puzzled. He saw no signs of any cavities at all and was surprised to hear I had multiple fillings done in recent years. Looking back, I should have been suspicious that I was in constant need of fillings given that I brushed twice a day and flossed almost every day. I will reiterate what other reviewers have said. You should question the recommendations of this dentist and get a second opinion before having any work done other than a cleaning. read more

Dr. Ellis and her team are AMAZING! I originally found her on a whim as an emergency root canal patient. They got me in within a couple hours and made me feel extremely comfortable given the situation. My wedding was quickly approaching so they made sure I was taken care of in a timely manner. When I came back for a checkup, the staff remembered my wedding and wanted to know all about it. This place seriously goes above and beyond for their patients. I am so happy I found them! This dental office tried to sell us on dental work that did not need to be done. Fortunately, I declined and got a second opinion from a dentist that was recommended by friends and family. I was told that I needed new crowns, a cavity filled and a root canal. The second dentist disagreed. I was told my child needed cavities filled and sealants. The second dentist disagreed. They also kept trying to sell us items like electric toothbrushes, expensive mouth rinses, etc. The personnel were trying too hard to be nice and were talking to my as if I were a little child. The dental hygienist and dentist are masochists with dental floss!! My mouth and jaws were sore for days. We have not been back and they still keep calling and sending us letters to return. I feel like we are being stalked. read more

I've been to friendly dentist offices, but when I went in for my first visit last week I couldn't imagine a more friendly office. Everyone (from the front desk to the hygienist to the dentist) was extremely friendly. They seem to use all of the up to date technology, and it was one of the most comfortable cleanings I've ever had (and I have gum recession issues, so my teeth are sensitive). Dr. Ellis diagnosed and filled a cavity on my son that I now believe was not a cavity. We had recently lost our benefits due to a layoff and we're dealing with a new and serious medical issue with my daughter. New to Dr. Ellis's office, she and the staff were aware of both issues. The office took x-rays and informed their dad that my son and daughter had six and seven cavities each. My kids have good oral hygiene practices and found the results shocking. My daughter wasn't able to return due to her illness but my son returned to Dr. Ellis. In this appointment, she went over the results with me and asked which teeth I thought should be filled first. Distraught, I couldn't make a decision and asked Dr. Ellis to help me with the decision. Sometime later, she raised her voice and demanded that I make a decision. I decided to fill one molar and she did. Months later, I took my children to a different dentist where they were x-rayed and examined only to find that they had NO cavities! FURIOUS, BETRAYED, and ANGRY only begin to describe the feelings of the outcome. Thank God I didn't have more permanent teeth filled. I will be filing a claim with the Dental Board. If the findings come back in favor of Dr. Ellis I will deletereview. Until then, I remain angry at the lack of care and professionalism during a sensitive time and furious that my son's tooth is forever damaged. Update- filed grievance online and learned I need to provide additional information. I'll be appealing with evidence and will not remove this post. read more

I started visiting this practice recently. Dr. Ellis came up with a plan that makes sense and addressed the specific needs of my dental care. Her support team, Darby Brown in particular, were extremely helpful and informative, offering me suggestions to improve the health of my gums and teeth. Some of the suggestions were pretty routine, some were innovative and I am implementing them immediately. I feel cared for and believe I have a good crew of dental health professionals supporting me. The office supply closet is available to all patients offering the best floss ever, tooth brushes and heads for electric brushes, if we have a need. The office staff has such a friendly, welcoming manner each time I visit. They fill us in on all insurance claim information, make appointments in advance and respond to any current need for check ups, cleanings. They inform Dr. Ellis if we need to discuss any concern and she'll get right back to us. BEWARE, this dentist is a rip-off. I took my two kids in for x-rays and examination. She said my son had one cavity and my daughter had two cavities. She charged $300 per child. WOW ORINDA PRICES!! I took my son in To have his cavity filled and when I picked him up it cost $350. ORINDA PRICES AGAIN! I called MY dentist in Berkeley and asked how much she charges for a filling, and she said around $100. So I booked an appointment for my daughter and took her to see my dentist in Berkeley. When I took my daughter to my dentist in Berkeley, she examined her and couldn't find any evidence of a cavity even after examining the x-rays that Dr. Ellis provided. I felt bad for my son who probably didn't need to suffer thru a filling. I also heard from a neighbor that had the same experience! WOW, not only is she overpriced, ( unless you have dental insurance) but she's doing unnecessary work! read more
