I did a walk-in, looking for a cheaper place than my usual salon. I only wanted to thin out my hair because it was thick, I didn't want to change the length. I usually pay 15, which I know is cheap, but I was looking for cheaper, especially when my hair only takes 15 minutes. So I ask at the front desk how much, and they say $12. The sign outside says haircuts as low at $10. I figure, okay, maybe because I'm an adult or because the price has since changed. It's still cheaper, right? The woman who does my hair does is polite, gives me a few tips. She does the job. And even gives me a molding sample to style my hair at home. But when I pay, she says $15. I ask why it wasn't 12 anymore, and she said because I had longer hair... And she shampooed my hair. Forget the fact that I didn't ask for the shampoo, I had no choice. She just said "Please go hair and I'll shampoo your hair." So I figured it was complimentary. This seems like a trick to make the sale, or make a few more bucks off a sale. Maybe if I knew it was 15, I wouldn't have come in anyway. But by principle, I don't like when people change their deal after the service is rendered. So no repeat business or referrals from me. read more

Debating between 2 or 3. I made a same day appointment on a Saturday. I underestimated how long it would get there, so I got there about 10 minutes late. Lily was really nice, not too talkative, but listened to what I wanted. Granted, I really didn't know what I wanted and what I described was very vague. But she did the best she could to accomodate to what I asked for. The salon isn't tidy at all. There's stuff everywhere, very unorganized. The station I sat down at to wash my hair still had other stuff in it from another hair dye appointment... kinda gross. The lady tried to wash my hair with cold water until I told her to turn up the heat. I feel Lily knows what she's doing. She cut my hair evenly. She also made many comments about how dry my hair is. It's been permed. On top of that, it looked even more dry because she comed through it and blew dried it, so it looked even worse... fluffy. She also kept spraying stuff and I guess it was still to unmanagable for her. She went somewhere to get another type of product and put it in my hair. It smelled like drugstore lotion. After she applied it, my hair was a little greasier. I asked her what she put in it, and she said 'super moisturizer,' which leads me to believe that she DID put lotion in my hair. If it was a hair product I'm sure she would have tried to sell it to me. Don't know if I would come back. read more

I have been coming to this salon for about six/seven years. & always going to my number one hair stylist, Kristen. She's the reason why this place is doing well. I don't see myself going anywhere else, well if Kristen goes I will follow. She understands what the customer wants but puts in her knowledge on hair as well. So it works out swell. My sister, brother in law, niece, & nephew also go to her so I think she's doing a good job. Mhm. The salon is well kept up and welcoming. It's pretty tiny but don't fret it's never ever crowded. If you catch yourself waiting though you'll be able to watch some Tv on a flat screen or read some decent magazines. Wait it out, it's worth getting the hair cut you want at a decent price. read more

I had been going to Lam's for 10 years--they were affordable and decent. When I went in last week, Lily, the owner, was completely negligent. You know how you wash the dishes really fast because you want to get it over with, and you splash water all over the place and leave food spots on the plate? That's how Lily washed my hair. I was so shocked--she had never been that disrespectful before. I had water splashes all over my clothes. When it came time to cut my hair was when the true horror began. She used the same overly-fast, negligent manner to cut my hair. It was like she was cutting up pieces of paper with a pair of scissors as fast as possible. She asked me if I wanted bangs, and I said ok some side bangs...thinking of the side swept kind where the longest piece ends at the bottom of your nose. She cut my bangs so short, I literally look like I have a mullet now. The other hairdressers, who have known me for 10 years, were giving me looks as she was doing it. At the end, she charged me $30 instead of my usual $20, so she essentially charged me $10 extra dollars to destroy my hair. Keep in mind, I was not a new client--I'd been going to Lam's for 10 years. Lily, the owner, was so negligent and disrespectful. No guys have checked me out since she cut my hair. I am never going back. And you know that if I was going there for 10 years, Lily must've really effed up for me to stop going there. read more

First off, I will say this, maybe I just got a bad stylist. I liked the lady sitting next to me's hair very much and her stylist seemed much more competent that mine. I told my stylist I wanted a trim and she cut like 3 inches off my hair, I dont consider that a trim. Not only that, but she did it so quick and didn't even spray it down I really don't think she cared at all how it looked. That wasn't the worst part though, I came to get my eyebrows threaded too and that was the horrible part. The room they took me to in the back was honestly pretty gross and I am not a neat freak or a germ-a-phobe. The table was still wet from I'm assuming whoever went before me lying down on it with wet hair. The lady put a thin towel over the wet towel (why not just take the wet towel off???) I was honestly feeling disgusting as I felt the wetness seeping through the towel on me. My eyebrows looked alright, but the lady took forever to do it unlike the ladies I usually go to at Shear Artistry in Diamond Bar. Also, she said she couldn't thread it all because it was "impossible" to thread the part between your brows cuz you cant turn your hand that way. Well, maybe impossible for her, but I know this is not an impossible feat, as they all can do it at Shear Artistry. I really prefer not to get waxed because I have sensitive skin on my face and told her this and she was just like, "oh, no, its ok" and did just it anyways. |'m a pretty cheap person and was looking for a cheap haircut, but I guess I got what I paid for in that regard. For the threading, I only did it there since I was already there for my hair, since its only like $1 or $2 more expensive at Shear Artistry its worth it to stick with the pros. read more

I was visiting from out of town and looked up Lam's on yelp. I wanted to get an eyelash perm and saw that Lam's only charged $30!! It's hard to find a price like that in the Bay area. In addition to the eyelash perm I also got a scalp treament and a haircut. I may have had Lily. She had short hair whereas all the other ladies had med. long to long hair. Eyelash perm: It's been a few days and the eyelash perm is so-so. The ones I pay $60 for usually give really good results where the lashes are curly even after I wash my face. My left lashes are slightly curled but the right side is stick straight again. However, when I curled them over the weekend and applied mascara the lashes held better than without the perm. That is why I'm not completely disappointed, especially for the price. Scalp treament: For $12, this was nice. She shampoo'd my hair and applied this oil treatment that tingled on my scalp for about 10 mins. I love shampoos so this was a nice treat. I also ended up buying the products she used to help with the itchy scalp. So far, so good. Haircut/trim: This was an impulse trim, nothing fancy. I was happy after she styled it which was straightening it. I had curly, permed hair so it was nice seeing my hair straight and shiny. Overall, a good experience for my first time at the salon let alone my first time in the area. read more

I've been going to Lam's Beauty Salon for years, well before they moved to this current location. They used to be located on Valley and Nogales before they were forced to move due to the construction to make the Valley overpass. I've never had any issues with any of the hairstylists or with how my hair has been cut even though I ask them to do some funky stuff with my hair some of the time. They are always willing to make adjustments to my hair if I don't completely love it. Most of the time my hair is cut pretty simple and I walk away thoroughly satisfied with my haircut and the way I look. Their prices are very reasonable and the wait is never too long even if you don't have an appointment. If you get there early, there is almost never a wait. I don't think I've waited to get my hair cut in the 15-20 times I've been there. If you are in the area and need a quick cut I suggest you give them a try. You can always talk to them during your styling if you don't like something. They are always there to listen to what you want, but with anything I suggest you not wait till they are completely done with the finishing touches before you say you don't like it or have another suggestion just out of common courtesy. I don't think anyone would be so enthused after finishing up a haircut or styling only to be told of more requests in the end. With all things, communication is key. Happy styling!!! read more

My stylist is Kim! She does a great job. She makes suggestions when I'm not sure which type of trim would be better. She also happily answers my questions while she is cutting and asks before she does certain things, like trimming the baby hairs on my neck (I wear a bob haircut). What keeps me coming back, though, is how kind of a person she is. I once arrived about 15-20 minutes before closing. The store was closing early, but she was OK with staying later to cut my hair. I've had my hair cut by other stylists there, too. I've always walked out happy. I don't get my nails done there, but I often get my eyebrows/upper lip waxed at Lam's. After reading a bunch of raving reviews on Lily, I decided to give this place a try. Lily is a very sweet lady who didn't try too hard to make conversation. She shampooed my hair and cut my hair as I had vaguely described. I felt the layers were a little TOO much, but I also didn't give a very detailed description of how I'd like my hair. At the end, she charged me $30 for the haircut. I felt I left with a fair haircut at a fair price. I would give it another try, next time with a picture! read more

I've been a customer of Lam's since their days on Nogales & Valley. Although I get the same haircut almost every time I go, the service has always been great and quick. All of the staff is friendly, and always checks in to see how I'm doing. I'm usually able to get seated right away or will have to wait no more than 5-10 minutes. I've been here twice, because their prices are decent. I've never had to wait, so that's a huge plus. I only come for a trim and to remove all my split ends, I asked about their styling and color prices and it was a bit steep. Maybe when I feel like splurging I will come back for the color. One thing I noticed which is totally off topic, they have a huge vase/fish bowl without a filter. Just a plant with 4-5 huge Goldfish. Looks like they're gasping for air, they always go to the surface and I have never ever seen goldfish do that! Gotta knock off one star! read more

Normally when I get my hair straightened here it comes out ok. This time was beyond horrible. Lady did a horrible job from beginning to end and my hair ended up looking like a mop on my head. Hair was not alive and sticking up but flat on my head. I have been Geeting my hair straightened for roughly 20 years now and know when one does a good job and when one does a bad job. This was simply horrible. I had specifically told her many times that it had to be done right and I did not want hair straightened to look like a dirty floor mop on my head but sure enough that was what it looked like when she finished. I asked if Lily could see me today and within the hour I was sitting in her chair. Lily is very sweet and talented with cutting hair.. She asked questions about how I usually liked my hair cut.
