I am also in the service industry as I have been a hairdresser on Newbury street for over 20 years and know all too well what it's like trying to please people. I have stuck by Lan and her business because she is incredible at what she does and runs her salon professionally. Like any business you will have your good days as well as your bad you and there are always going to be those select few who will find something to complain about. To be honest I have had more problems with some of the clientèle there then I have ever had with any employee or service I received. And to the woman who thinks that everyone is talking about her in another language, please don't find yourself so self important that you think people have nothing better to do then talk about you (unless of course you are giving them reason to). read more

Went in for a mani and eyebrow wax. The mani was fine but they waxed too close to my eye and onto my eyelid- now my right eye is so swollen that I literally can't open it. I am going back to LAN today to ask for a refund and show them how clueless they are at waxing!! I have to go see a doctor now for burn cream. RIDICULOUS!!! a big dart to this place. a friend of mine says its usually good, but when I went with her on a busy Saturday morning, they rushed through my manicure, clearly caring only about getting to the next person waiting. the woman cut my nails very short without asking me. my friend had a french manicure and they didn't paint the entire tips of her nails white just the very top -so after the white polish you could see the white of her nails through the clear polish beneath! if i'm paying someone to do my nails, i really expect more. read more

I got my eyebrows waxed here today. I didn't have an appointment but only had to wait about 10 minutes. They were definitely busy with nail clients! Lan did my brows in what felt like a matter of seconds. They look just fine and for $10, it cost about half of what it would anywhere else in the neighborhood! Lan was very sweet and efficient. I have gone to Lan Nail Salon for years and always enjoyed it. They don't take credit cards which is a bit of a hassle, but has always been worth it. I moved away but was recently back in the city and decided to get a pedicure. The woman who cut my nails performed her tasks so quickly I barely had the chance to relax and it wasn't a very busy day. She also didn't seem like she wanted to be there and I was shocked at the end that it was $25...it certainly was not worth that. I'm sorry to say that I won't be back. read more

I came here for a pre-wedding weekend mani/pedi. I was excited to see that they had a huge color selection - I found just the color to match my dress. She rushed through the pedi some but in the end it looked fine. As I was getting ready to pay she informed me they only except cash or check - what is this the stone ages?? Luckily there is a Bank of America one block away...so I ran over (in the rain) to get more cash. When I got back to the salon to pay she asked me rudely why I don't just carry a check book. The manicures and pedicures are a pretty good price and they come out decent. I got a pretty good buff when i went. However, for several times i was there, the owner of Lan Nail Salon (Lan) got into fights with her employees and was screaming obscene words in english and chinese. Terrible - I would never go back here. Went for the first time today, as everytime I walk by it's crowded. Asked for an eyebrow wax and she took off half my right eyebrow. What a horrible experience! Went to this nail salon intending to get a mani and pedi and walked out with a MEDIOCRE NAIL JOB. After seeing what the nail tech Hanh had done I decided not to get the pedi. I should have known I needed to leave that place when I walked in and they kept asking me questions about how I was going to get my nail and feet done at the same time. I said I didn't know since they were the ones that suggested it. Then they couldn't figure out what color of dip they were going to use to on my hands to match my toes when they were ready to paint them. When Hanh was filling my nails I kept telling her that they didn't look right and she said she didn't know what I wanted. I gave up that battle and proceeded with the nail job anyways. What a mistake! I even have nail dip/gel all over my skin. When she finished I asked if she could remove a cuticle that was hanging she said I didn't need it and finally removed it after I insisted. After seeing the mess she done I decided not to get my feet done. When I was ready to pay they said they don't accept bank or credit cards, only cash. If they only accept cash why don't they have that disclosed some where? So they had me give them my ID while I went to the bank for cash. In addition the seating was bar style and very very uncomfortable. Do not recommend this place if you're looking for quality. read more

I've been to this salon for two pedicures. One in September 2013 and one in May 2015. Overall, it's affordable (bring cash, though) and not the greatest quality; 'you get what you pay for' is an apt description. My nails didn't look as clean and even as similarly priced salons had achieved in the past, the massage was shorter than average, and after two visits, I won't be returning. There are better salons in Boston and in many other cities. read more

The technician was literally aggressive grabbing my leg to put it up on the step and pushing it into the water...not relaxing. Not a nice environment. Please do not waste your time at this nail salon!! There are better places in the area, namely City Nails and Lauren's. Let me describe my experience.... I came in today to have a nail repaired and my polish changed and I left completely dissatisfied and appalled by the service I received. My polish change left much to be desired, thoroughly intolerable that when I came home I had the time to do it myself carefully. The nail technicians in this salon are slack and rush their services, and I was really annoyed that after she took less than 2 minutes to "repair" and paint my nails I was told "ok go now" and pulled out of the spa chair. The other patrons reacted with shock and disbelief in their faces...I would never imagine I would encounter an employee so rude. Listen I do not care how "cheap" this cash only salon is, service is everything and at LANs you will hardly find it. Two major thumbs down! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I went in today for a gel manicure. I have a few old acrylic tips that I've been growing out and just have trimmed each time I get a mani. The woman that did my nails today insist on taking them off. I told her repeatedly that she could try but if they weren't budging to just leave them. Nope. She ripped one off and split my real nail across the middle. It started bleeding and she just ignored it. When I said something she said it was better and what color do I want. It is going to take months for my nail to heal but more importantly I have the added worry my nail and finger will get infected. Then they charged me for a manicure after I stopped them from doing anything else. I have been there a few times for a lunch time mani with mediocre results but it is one of the few places close my office. I will never return and I'd advise you stay away if you care about your nails at all. read more

Lan did my nails and I had a great experience. She gave me great advice on taking care of my nails in the future as they have been ruined by acrylics! I didn't feel rushed at all despite walking in 40 minutes before closing. The prices were very reasonable for being in the South End and my nails look great! Everyone was very friendly and the salon was very nice overall. They do only take cash but there is an ATM less than a block away. read more

Everyone goes for the discount, before 11 a.m. mid-week you get $5 off. I went at 10:30 a.m. on a Wednesday before vacation. Every pedicure chair was taken, owner quickly jumped up and told me to pick a color. Another woman came in and said she had an appointment at 10:30 a.m. The 4 customers moved from pedicure to manicure, not sure if they were all together but now all the technicians are giving manicures. I was told to sit and soak. I sat for 15 minutes realizing no one would be available for at least another 20 minutes AND the woman who had an appointment was sitting in the waiting area. I don't mind waiting but don't lie to me about the wait time. Seriously is losing out on $20 worth it? I dried my feet and left. I went to Lan Nail Salon for a mani/pedi after reading the positive reviews on Yelp. The salon is clean and cheery. Unfortunately, the woman who did my nails was horrible. She cut my cuticles and several toe and finger nails were bleeding afterward. In fact, the big toe of my left foot was still bleeding the next day and, 10 days later, it still hurts and the wound is sore. I'm giving the salon two stars for cleanliness, but I'll never be back and won't recommend it to anyone else. read more

Not only did they apply my nail color unevenly (the top coat didn't even cover my whole nail), but more importantly my manicurist made me bleed in three different spots while doing my cuticles. One of the cuts was pretty bad and still hurts two days later. So, now of course I'm worried maybe I'll get an infection. She also cut the cuticles too short and now the skin around my nails is a bit swollen. The entire time my manicurist was chatting so loudly with another manicurist and the place didn't look that clean. I would recommend taking the time to walk a few blocks until you find another salon! read more

Living just a block a way, Lan is my spot to get my nails done. They are always so friendly and Lan knows everyone's name. Most of the girls are good, some are better at gel than others, My favorite is Mimi. The gel sometimes last 4 weeks. Once it chipped in 2 days and I went back, they apologized and fixed the nail right away. Before 3pm on Tues-Thurs, its 20%. It's not fanciest place but for the price it gets the job done. read more

i've been going to lan's approx every 2 weeks for the past few months. today was a nightmare! there was some fighting going on between the ladies which resulted in a awful manicure and pedicure for me. hand massage lasted all of 5 seconds, the woman didn't crack a smile once, and when i asked to speak to lan, they were to busy to accommodate me. i left with three nails already chipped. really disappointing. i will never return. read more
