We are already planning our text trip to do this again. I highly recommend using 3XPtours. It's a great experience at a very reasonable price. He even documents your entire trip, so you don't have to worry about taking pictures, and creates a video rell as well. Plus you get a discount at your stops. Whistlestop is located at the end of a dirt road (literally off the beaten trail), so don't be too worried if you wonder if you're going the right way--keep going back the road and it's just over an old rail line. The B&B is the basement of an old farm house and the room is spacious. As Brian mentioned, the room had a queen size bed, couch, working fireplace, pool table, kitchenette, and private bath. The owners, Sherry and Mike, were a delightful couple and we had a chance to peak into their beautifully renovated kitchen and meet their lovable boxer, Lucy. Tons of snacks to pick from, but easily the best were the homemade sticky buns and chocolate chip cookies. Sherry stocked the fridge and pantry with breakfast items for the next day (yogurt, fruit, oatmeal, breakfast bowls). Brian enjoyed a couple rounds of pool while I feasted on several hours of HGTV's "Property Brothers" on the biggest flat-screen TV I've seen in someone's house (60-inch?). The bed was cozy, covered with beautiful colored linens, and I think if you wanted to leave the blinds open, you could wake to a beautiful sunrise amongst the nearby trees. I woke up early Sunday morning to do a bit of reading and enjoy a cup of tea by the fireplace. Perfection. Since we were there in late March, we didn't get to enjoy this amenity, but there is a fire pit so you can make some s'mores (yes, they provide all the fixings for that too). I need to ask Brian when we can go again...it was a great weekend to unplug and just relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Columbus. (although, they have free Wifi, just in case you need it :) )

What a beautiful community! My family owns a lake house here and I have only good things to say…read more Many residents reside in the hills full time but quite a few families own vacation homes here as well. There are a few different lakes to choose from with the biggest being Lake of the Four Seasons. On this lake, boats, kayaks, canoes, and swimmers are all very common. The others lakes are substantially smaller and are more for kayaking, canoeing, swimming, as well as fishing. As for eating, there are two places to choose from, a clubhouse and a bit more formal dining area. There is also a pool, garden, and golf course on the property. Hide-a-way Hills is surrounded by gorgeous trees and there is a lot of wonderful hiking in and out of the gates. Located about 20 minutes outside of Lancaster, restaurants, shopping, and top notch glass blowing centers are super close to you! Many of the families (including myself) come down for the weekends all year long. Since The Hills is little less than an hour from Columbus it's really easy to come down for a night or two. All and all, whether you are considering purchasing a lake house, nature retreat, or full time home, Hide-a-way hills is a great place to consider!

The German Village Haus und Garten Tour is held the last Sunday of every June. It is sponsored by the German Village Society (and of course, the gracious folks who open their homes to the public). Tickets can be purchased in advance. But keep in mind, walking tours are available practically year round. Just pop into the German Village Meeting Haus, 588 South Third Street, to catch a 12-minute video and pick up a guide to the historic district. The 233-acre neighborhood is the largest, privately-funded historic district in the country. It's a neat place to wander around.

Having just moved from a historical neighborhood that has annual home tours (I even hosted one…read moretime), I totally get how much time and effort going into organizing an event such as this, let alone the amount of time and effort the actual home owner has to invest. As for the home tour here in German Village, it was very nice. Having friends that used to live in the village, I've had the opportunity to visit several of the area houses during and after their transformation... I love the historical feel and the effort made to preserve the essence of the area!! Why only 3 stars??? Well, as I mentioned at the start of this, I've done this sort of thing before. I love the intent of the fund-raising activity, but I feel the price of $20 per person is ... a BIT much. Had it not been for Groupon offering $15 for TWO tickets, I would not have attended. So glad I did not shell out $40 to stand in line or well over an hour at each house. They're nice and all, but way to crowded. And to stand in line for that long to only see 2-3 rooms on average in most houses..... When I did this a few years ago, I totally loved the experience of meeting and talking with all the people who had actually paid money to come look at my house. It made all the work and effort worth it!! Here in German village, I met only one single owner... REALLY??? Anyway, it was a good onetime experience, as I will probably not attend this again.

GREAT TINY LITTLE AIRPORT!…read more Parking is super convenient, but kinda expensive, at $12 per day. The airport itself is tiny so security is a breeze! STUPID to have to pay $45 to get through security with a regulary ID that hasn't been upgraded to a real ID. They don't do any additional screenings to ensure you're a REAL non-threatening person... u just pay $45 and then they look at your regular ID to check your name against your reservation... lol. BUT the airport itself is great! SMALL airport, security is a BREEZE and the TWO little gates are perfect. Allegiant flight was delayed and they put out waters and soft drinks for us so that was a nice gesture from Allegiant. The airport is just so convenient, I will gladly use this one ANY time I can over Columbus, just from the pure convenience aspect of parking and getting to the gate quickly. I will have to drive father and past Columbus to get to this one, and parking is $4/day more expensive, but I will do it every time!!!

Clear Creek Metro Park is basically in the back yard and stunning! Susan was warm and friendly and a gracious host. Sadly due to COVID-19 there were no meals but she did bake some delicious muffins for breakfast and delivered them to your cabin. The cabin was clean and cozy, perfect for a lone traveler or a couple. There is not kitchen but a clean and working mini fridge and microwave. I could not be more please by this experience and look forward to coming back next year!
