We've used Lance's for years and have always felt their prices were fair and that they are honest, but we were curious just *how* fair and honest, so we got a quote for a recent repair from another local jeweler as well and were floored - it was 3x higher than Lance's, and they weren't nearly as friendly! I will start this off by stating that I am waiting on a repair to my ring so will update in a week or so and that everyone here has been very nice, welcoming, and helpful. My husband (at the time fiancé) stopped by here to see about getting his ring size. The staff was very friendly and helped him figure out his proper size. He discussed designing a custom ring while there and we have been highly considering working with them to create one. A few days before the wedding I needed to get my rings sized (engagement ring sized down and band sized up). They were very busy, but said they could get it done and would have it ready by that Friday. I called around lunch Friday to see if it was ready so we could pick it up. They said it would be ready. My fiancé went to pick up the rings and they were not ready yet. He waited on them to be completed and we were glad we got them in time for the wedding (and I will give major kudos because they cleaned them and I did NOT think they were that dirty, but boy did the set clean up nicely). However, we realized they did not quite sit properly together as there is a swoop on the band to allow it to sit up under the stone and the swoop shape was not quite right. I also lost a small accent diamond out of the engagement ring that had been sized down. I figured they were a bit rushed since my fiance was waiting for them to be completed and potentially did not get to check all of the settings/double check how the two fit with each other so I wanted to give them the chance to make it right as I know they did mention that they typically do several quality checks on everything. I made it back in and showed them the rings. They looked up my account and said they would make it right. They are currently working on the repairs and I am hopeful I'll be happy with the results. Even with the mishap and partially because of it I give them 4 stars. They clearly stand by their work and are willing to make things right and that goes a long way in business. Everyone there I have come into contact with has been very pleasant and helpful with a kind smile and that also speaks volumes. I look forward to getting my wedding set back and updating the review. Update: definitely still not right. Not happy with the fix. The engagement ring I'm fine with. I feel like with the band they flattened it out when they sized it up to extend it and that just set everything off center. The stones don't line up on the side anymore. The swoop was originally more up and down and the band is staggered like the engagement ring. Thus, the swoop sits under the stone and kind of locks it in place. Now, the swoop just lays below the stone and is not even proper to let it fully sit on top of it and moving the band and flattening it makes it not line up with the engagement ring and still gap. I'm over dealing with it and will potentially look to have it repaired elsewhere. Thankfully the plan is to make a custom ring set using this set's stones, but I really did want it to be done properly so I could enjoy this set while I have it. Bumping down to 3 stars. read more

Dishonest. I took a case of watches to have the batteries replaced and was told by "Vinnie" it would be $75 for the case. once the work was completed I was told by an employee the cost was $150, twice the amount quoted. I told the employee my agreement and he checked with "Vinnie" who denied quoting me $75 for the case and said it was $15 per watch. They did nothing to mitigate the issue and charged me $150 to get my watches back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Dishonest and poor customer service! read more

I'm new to the Cumming area and went into Lance's Jewelry for a price to buff and polish our wedding bands. Was quoted $65 EACH to buff and polish the rings. Said something about a 4 step polish procedure would need to be done on them. That's the highest price I have ever been quoted for buffing/polishing rings. I couldn't believe it would cost $195 to take care of the rings. Luckily I found The Goldsmith Jewelers off Atlanta Road in Cumming. Roger Barker, a 41 year master jeweler, took my rings, buffed and polished all 3 of them in less than 10 minutes. They look fabulous and he refused to charge me anything. I have found my jeweler in the area. Can't recommend him enough. Honest, fair and a real gem of a guy! read more

I was very disappointed with the store selection and service The store has lots of estate pieces and few current pieces. Most of the display cases are dirty and the lighting is so poor, it's difficult to see the beauty in any piece I was looking at a pre- owned Rolex and had taken off my watch to try on the Rolex. I brought my wedding band in to get it fixed because it broke apart. I left it with them for a week. I came back got my wedding band to I tried to adjust it myself so I could fit my engagement ring in the middle of it. The lady told me not to do that, so I stopped, and I handed it back to her. she then told me that they need to redo my wedding band to fit the other ring in the middle, so she broke it apart right in front of me. So, I gave her my engagement ring and left it there for another week. A few days passed so I called to check on my ring. she went to go look for it so they put me on "hold" (hold meaning they just leave the phone on the counter so you could hear EVERYTHING that people are saying in the background). So, the lady went to go talk to Lance. They guy started yelling and said that I broke my band (I did not) the lady said that I was still on the phone, and I could hear him, but he didn't care. I told her that I heard him, and I wish to speak to him. So, I explained to him what happened, and he asked me to talk to him when I come to pick up both my rings. A week later (2 weeks my rings have been in the Jewler) to pick up my rings. Came in told them I'm here for my rings and Lance was at his desk. I looked at him and asked if he still wanted to talk to me, he agreed, and I explained. his response was "I'm sorry I'm only human" (you're the owner you should have been more professional) I got to my car and looked at my rings again and NOW a jewel is missing out of my engagement ring!! went back in and told them that there is a missing peace out of my engagement ring. I gave my engagement ring back to them and waited for another week (week 3 my rings were in there) finally got my rings back with no apology or anything. so, to say I'd rather go spend 200+ to get my ring done and do business with someone more professional than go to this place again. read more

I went to get an appraisal for a new watch I bought - for appraisal purposes. I left it for several days and then received a call that they needed to speak to me about it. When I went back to the store they said they couldn't determine the watch was real or not, so they couldn't do an appraisal, and that fakes had been made that looked very similar to the real thing. It was very uncomfortable - and I should have been told up front that they had no experience with a new high dollar Rolex. I confirmed later that day with another jeweler (Authorized Rolex dealer) that it was indeed real - and this should have never been an issue. Again - looks like they just don't have the knowledge to deal with high dollar items. I have 5 other rings needing appraisals - and will be shopping elsewhere. read more

I have been a long time customer of Lance's Jewelry. Well over 23 years. He helped to turn my fathers wedding ring into a feminine cocktail ring for me after he passed away. I have three sets of gorgeous diamond earrings from him as well as the most beautiful sapphire cocktail ring that I get hundreds of compliments on. Over ten years ago I upgraded my wedding ring for a style that was more of my taste. This week my husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and Lance assisted my husband with upgrading my diamond. Horrible craftsmanship. Took my wedding band in for re-sizing expecting to get the same ring back. When I came back they butchered the design and tried to make excuses for it. When they finally agreed to repair the damage all they did was do a lousy job slapping two pieces of gold on the sides of the ring that were not even the same size as the rest of the ring. The work was bad and the repair job looked cheap. It was clear they gave as little attention to doing the job as they could. The lady who attended to us the first time wouldn't even look at us when we came back to get the ring. She hid at the far end of the store. I have since taken the ring to a different jeweler to repair their botched work. Too many other choices for this in the area to settle for amateurish work and unprofessional service. I will never go back. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

This is our go-to place for jewelry purchases and repair. We've bought multiple wedding rings, watches, and have always been treated fairly, respectfully, and with class. The store has a fantastic selection, the cases are always clean, and I have never walked in without being greeted immediately. The store, cases, and decor and all first-rate (the review about the smudgy cases and dim lighting must literally have been in a different store - In 2 years I've never seen a dirty case!). We actually have saved money shopping here, but more importantly, Lance and his team guide us through decisions. We've always been very satisfied, and appreciate their honesty, integrity, and taste. Worst customer service-rude and dishonest. Took in high end watch for battery change. Told it wasn't the battery and they would send it to their watchmaker for a $20 dep, which would be refunded if I agreed to repair. Was quoted $300 to repair, and watch was returned several weeks later. They did not deduct the $20 deposit as promised. They also damaged the diamond face of the watch-perhaps a drop of fluid spilled on the face, causing a grey mark (discoloration) . Then shortly thereafter a screw fell out of the band. I was given a 1 year warranty and took the watch back with that receipt. It was ready less than 30 min later (while we were driving home. told it would take hours). When I returned, a young male jeweller told me that it was another $45 for the screw to be replaced-I was not told this when I dropped off the watch. Asked him if the band would have had to be removed for this repair and he rudely said "No" . We did call Swiss Watch repair in Clearwater, who is the SE US authorized repair center for this brand. They stated that the band would absolutely need to be moved for this internal repair to happen. Wrote a polite and detailed letter to the owner, Lance. Took 3+ weeks for him to respond. I asked him to contact me a few days later as I was out of town at a conference. Never responded again. I called his personal phone number, and the store several times. Could never get ahold of him. Rude, dishonest and certainly not a place to take a high end watch or any valued jewelry. Guess they just ignored and didn't want to admit to the damaged diamond face or the band coming loose. They do take a pix of the watch when they accept it, and certainly could have determined that the damage was not present when the watch was dropped off to them. read more

As a long time customer of Lance's Jewelry, who has had multiple custom pieces made, as well as purchased jewelry from their excellent inventory, it would be hard to have expected Lance and his sister Doris to be anything but talented, friendly and capable people. But they have outdone themselves.... Their team created one of the most amazing "gemstone trees"- something completely charming and original - for our 35th anniversary, that my wife loves so much she keeps it on the mantle and shows it off to everyone who visits. It is a wonderful piece of art that reminds her of how much I love her every day. It is also a perfect example of a team of very creative people doing whatever it takes to craft an item that is truly one of a kind. I give them one star based on an appraisal. Just know that if you are needing any jewelry appraised, this is NOT the place to go. I recently had them appraise a pendant for insurance purposes, and their appraiser not only got the diamond carat weight totally wrong, she thought the center emerald was synthetic. It was not. Afterward, I had it appraised by Milano Fine Jewelry and by Rubin Brothers Jewelers and both agreed it was a natural emerald, and appraised the piece for quite a bit more than the so called appraiser did at Lance's Jewelry. When we went back and showed them the other's appraisals, she not only didn't take the time to come out into the showroom and discuss it with us, she stood by her worthless appraisal and did not offer to refund the appraisal fee. They gave the best price we could find, they are locally owned (we met Lance through the Humane Society and he is a great guy!) and they are just nice. They sold a Seiko watch with a perpetual calendar that always knows the date with out you having to change it at the beginning of the month. I took it there to get a battery changed. $20 to put in a battery should get excellent service. The calendar is not set now that the battery is changed and they said I have to send it to Seiko to get it set. So why in the crap did they not send it to Seiko to get the dang battery changed if they knew it would not be right after changing the battery? Poor service. A decent retail store would have told me up front that the place they send the watch to would just put the battery in and the calendar wouldn't be right or I could send it to Seiko and get the battery changed and the calendar would work as it should. read more

DO NOT GET REPAIRS DONE HERE!! I took a pair of earrings here to have the posts replaced...they asked me to pay in advance (which I did). The earrings were supposed to be completed in 1 weeks time and they called (twice) to delay. When I went to pick them up, the repair job was (crudely) done and I couldn't even get the earrings in my ears! I had to have the earrings re-done elsewhere! I would avoid Lance's Jewelry at all costs. Took watch in for repair and they damaged the hole where the pin goes in. They even went as far as to say I brought it in that way. I could see through the window they were trying to hammer a pin in. I will never take anything else there for repair. Worked on it for an hour then said they would handle the repairs for free only to call back a week later to try and charge 20.00 to send off to an off-site watch repair facility. Horrible customer service! Purchased a necklace for my mom and was told that I could return it if she didn't like it. We went to return it and could not find anything else we liked in the store so I told her I wanted my money back. She said we don't do money back we only give store credit. I explained to her that she told me we could return it and she said "I meant you could get store credit." That's NOT the same thing as returning it. I was told that Lance would call me back and talk with me about it. He never did. I called and left another message for him and again he never called me back. When I called again she explained to me "he's just really busy and doesn't look at his messages." When explaining a return policy they should say that they can return something for store credit only. She lied to make a sale and got mad when I called them on it. In the end I got my money back but their customer service was terrible! Would not recommend this place to anyone. Also, I had a friend that purchased there and was lied to as well and they wouldn't do anything for them and told them never to shop there again. Be careful with these guys. read more

After reading glowing reviews about this place, I decided to check it out. I was not impressed to say the least. Four employees were behind the counter at the time I walked in and only one of them even looked up at me to greet me despite the fact that I was the only customer in the store. I asked the only employee that acknowledged me a few questions about diamonds and upgrading and I immediately felt that she had no idea what she was talking about and I knew more than her. Twice she had to consult with the owner to get answers. Both times, the owner continued to look down and never make eye contact with me. I felt "put off" by the whole experience as if I was a nuisance to them. I do look young, and some people don't take me as seriously as someone more mature looking. I brought in a watch that I thought needed a new battery. They sent it to their watch repairman and estimated that it would cost atleast $110 to fix the broken movement. I decided to get a second opinion. The other guy was able to fix it for $35 and reported that the last person to open the watch had lost a spring. read more
