Kevin is the most compassionate and kind person you can imagine.. my dog, DD, was a very nervous and timid dog. She came from an abuse situation and was terrified of men. Kevin sat on the floor with until she went to him on her own. When she has her neck surgery, he actually groomer on the floor so he didn't need to use the noose. I couldn't recommend him more. My Daisy met Kevin at Land of Paws for the first time today. We recently moved to area and brought her in based on a recommendation from a friend. I'm so happy she recommended this groomer. Kevin, the owner, is beyond nice. I read in another post that Kevin is "zen" like with dogs, and that is the truth! Daisy is a shih tzu rescue. She was completely matted when she was rescued, so my fiance and I like to keep her with a puppy cut that she likes... I think that when her hair gets longer it makes her depressed and reminds her of her homeless days. Anyway, Kevin gave her a perfect puppy cut, precisely like we wanted. And Daisy didn't want to leave the place, she was so happy! For basic questions: her grooming was $50.00, which is a very reasonable price. The grooming included bathing, nail clipping and lots of love. We already made an appointment with Kevin for Daisy's next hair cut. I highly recommend this groomer. My shihtzu, Dots, is skittish to all noises (including clippers). She's absolutely terrified of the groomers. And previous groomers were terrified to take her back because she would never sit still! After looking at the reviews of this place, these words kept popping up; accommodating, patient, caring.... I booked an appointment and I'm so happy I did! Dots is usually extremely stressed out after a day of grooming (hiding under blankets and avoiding all human contact for days). I came back expecting to hear that she was not welcomed back. But there she was, beautifully groomed and calmly sitting in the cage. Kevin actually said that she behaved well! I couldn't believe it. She was a little tired when we got home but Dots was back to her normal happy self after a few hours of nap time. If you have a dog that needs a bit more attention and care, this definitely must be the place to go, do not hesitate! read more

Kevin is still the best in town-- Additional note is that I bring BOTH of my dogs here (and even my longhaired pure bred German Shepherd who has enough hair to fill a garbage can) and Kevin gives you a great price for 2 dogs. We have been taking our Josie (14 years old) to Kevin for the past two years. He is by far the best groomer we have ever taken her to. Josie is not a fan of getting groomed, but his calming and caring disposition always puts her at ease. He pays very close attention to detail, she always looks great and there has never been any marks left on her. I never write reviews, but Land of Paws deserves one. Absolutely love this place! Brought my Maltese here for the first time today, she was a mess and in desperate need of a grooming & as someone who adores her dogs more than anything, I was mortified bringing her in out of fear of being judged. Kevin was WONDERFUL, kind, and didn't make me feel judged one bit. And even called me to bring my dog in sooner than her scheduled appointment because he could tell by my initial phone call that she needed it. Today was our first, but definitely not last visIt to Land of Paws. We've been to five groomers in 3 1/2 years and have finally found in Kevin, our forever groomer. Sally is a rescue with no bad habits or fear of groomers. Our primary problem is that even if she has a small mat, previous groomers would insist on shaving her right away...they didn't even attempt to comb her out. I've picked her up at times and didn't even recognize my own dog! Kevin LISTENED to me. He did a wonderful job with Sally at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend hIm. read more

I recently used Kevin's grooming services for the first time. Let me begin by saying that my mini-schnauzer Pepper is probably the most outrageously difficult dog in the world to groom. His behavior is so atrocious that we've been permanently banned from Petco and I've had two groomers after that (at the vet's no less) tell me to only bring him in once a year b/c he's simply too difficult to handle. It took 3 women to hold him down on at least one occasion. Kevin was recommended to me from a friend who knows someone who has been to Land of Paws in Hamden. So, after I was chatting with my friend she suggested I give Kevin a try, or at least call and explain matters to him. By now, Pepper hadn't been groomed in almost 8 months. He was a matted, stinky mess. Not at all how I usually keep my dogs (I've had 3 previous schnauzers in my life and always had them groomed every 6-8 weeks). So, I called Kevin and explained my situation to him. He was almost apologetic when he told me he couldn't take Pepper for about two weeks but he would see what he could do at that time. He also said that if he had a cancellation, he'd call me and we could set something up sooner. I was elated. As luck would have it, he did get a cancellation and he also decided to take Pepper after hours so that he could give my dog his full attention and clip him as quickly as possible so there would be less trauma to my little guy. All I can say is what others have already said. Kevin is absolutely amazing. His demeanor is calm and patient. He had Pepper done within an hour which I find totally amazing. When I asked him how Pepper was with him, Kevin did honestly say he was tough, but he also agreed to groom him again. That was exactly what I wanted to hear. And the fact that my dog was now clean and groomed, his ears were done, his nails were clipped, things that others said couldn't be done, well, I'm totally impressed and grateful that Kevin is doing what he's doing. And to top it all off, his prices are so outrageously reasonable, I felt like it was Christmas and my birthday all at once. I was totally expecting to be charged far more than he asked for. Kevin is truly a remarkable young man and I would highly recommend him to anyone who has a dog in need of a good bath and a good clipping. Believe me, you will be thrilled you decided to give Kevin a try. He's absolutely the BEST. read more

We have never had an issue with the work he does and Max always comes home looking handsome and smelling wonderful! Our work and travel schedules often require me to switch and reschedule appointments and Kevin is always very accomodating and makes attempt to meet our needs. 5 stars +!!!! I just starting coming here and I can't say enough good things about Kevin and my dogs' grooming. I had stopped in initially to make an appointment. Kevin didn't have an opening for about 4 weeks, but said he would call if something opened up. Sure enough he did and I was able to get my Havashire in a week earlier than scheduled. I had had a bad experience at the last groomer and Kevin was very attentive as we discussed what I wanted in a cut. When I picked up my puppy she was happy and Adorable! i took the original appointment date a week later and brought my daughter's dog in for grooming. He gets a short cut and he looked so handsome! Kevin is great. He is extremely calm and keeps the dog calm. My German Shepherd isn't a nervous dog, but he lets everyone know when he gets upset from noise or blowers, etc. Kevin said he never made a sound until I walked in when he greeted me loudly. Kevin did a great job. Also, he called me when he had a cancellation, and I was able to get my dog in one week earlier. My dog loved Kevin and so do I. We had a blizzard the day of our appointment and Kevin called us that day anyway to reschedule. How cool was that! I have a 12 year old male Lhasa Apso and they are not easy to groom. My dog usually comes back looking like a Schnauser. I can't really see this place as a 5 star joint. My first dog got a good cut all in all, but my little Pom? Horrible. Full body cut: uneven. I told them to not touch the tail and only even it out, but they did what they wanted, and made her tail look like a said ponytail. Uneven, and plain ugly. Sorry, but I'm not going there again. And the place unnerved me, it looks like a jail instead of the groomers, it gives off a unfriendly feeling. The floors are also usually covered with clumps of fur, making me want to sneeze. All in all, not my cup of tea. read more
