i have heard great things about Landell's so I wanted to give it a shot. It is very hard to find a barber in this area that really cares and treats his work like an art form at an affordable price. From the moment that I walked into Landell's, I was received by David who just wanted to listen to what I wanted done. I showed him pics and we went back and forth with some questions, suggestions, clarifications, etc. it was clear that he wanted to make sure I was happy and he wanted it to be perfect. The conversation was very pleasant and he was laser focused on every detail. His fade work is amazing and yes he uses a straight blade for detailing but only after asking my permission. Most barbers in this area do not use straight blades. David has gained my future business not only for the greatest haircut but also for the overall experience. It was also clear that everyone that stopped by while I was there was a very happy customer. I see now what everyone is talking about. After reading the reviews, I thought why not? I couldn't be more pleased with not only the cut I got, but the barber service that came with it was great too. This is a really cool hidden gem. It's located in a tucked away area of Potomac that you probably wouldn't even know existed unless you knew the area. I grew up in Potomac and I honestly didn't know it was here until I found it on Yelp myself! I took my son here because we haven't been able to find a barber who can properly style his hair/ fade/ and do proper edges. I can't remember the name of the person who did his hair but the gentleman was very sweet, patient, and talked to my son and took his time doing his hair. By the time he was done my son was very happy with his hair and I was happy we had finally found a place that seemed like they knew what they were doing with mixed race hair- and does well with younger children even though it is not strictly a children's hair place. Looking for a decent barber near my workplace, I chanced upon Landell's listing. After reading the reviews for this place, I decided to pay them a visit and put my hairs thru the shears with these folks. The barber shop is in the back of a single family home on Falls Road. There is the obligatory barber pole on the front yard, but you have to watch out for the lane next to the property to turn in for parking, that is on the back. I missed that and had to turn around to get back in to the parking lot. The entrance is from the back and I was greeted right away by the barber who would be cutting my hair. He was a friendly person and engaged with all kind of talk related with sports (after he ascertained that I do indeed like sports). My haircut was like what I had in mind, which is hard to get! I only get my haircut at Landell's. I come all the way from Silver Spring to get my haircut by the owner who is super friendly and always accommodating. I got there a few minutes before they were closing and he still cut my hair even though I left am hour after closing time. Landell really knows his craft, and even suggested a haircut and beard trim that really made me look younger and hid my thinning hairline. My whole family goes there from my dad to my son and there is no where else I would go. read more

I'll give this place 5 stars but will highlight its only quirk. Place is great, no frills, barber shop that is not to be confused with a salon. Where in Potomac, or within 10 miles, will you get a great cut for $16? The owner is great and sometimes the only one cutting hair. They cut hair the old fashioned way and will give you a razor clean finish every time with great attention to detail. The quirk: it's a mom and pop operation so don't always expect a line of stylists waiting to cut your hair. There will always be a wait even if you show up at their door before opening time, and things move slowly. Come patient. Bottom line: Great place and hope it is always around. Just plan ahead and be prepared to play with your phones or watch some sports on their TV. read more

I moved literally next door to Landell's a little over a year ago and haven't gone to anyone else to cut my hair since. Landell is a class act and great at what he does. The facilities are very clean and welcoming, with TVs, magazines and even entertainment consoles to keep guests of all ages entertained. The owner and his team are very attentive and have the ability to really materialize whatever vision you have style-wise! I always come here to get my hair cut. They just recently opened a few months ago. Landell used to run a different barber shop until he opened this one. I always have Jonathan cut my hair just about every two weeks. This shop is a little out of my way but it's worth it for me. Jonathan always does a great job. I'm kind of old school with still getting a shape up haha but he's the only person who can cut the way I like. The prices are very affordable too. If you're around the area, check this place out. This place was a little bit to far for us but we were welcomed very well, it was clean and not full. My husband went to cut his hair and a young girl welcomed us . She was very friendly . But after we left I could see on the top of his head his hair had lines, wasn't smooth how it was supposed to. You could see the mark of the cut of the scissor . I believe she was learning . The owner was there , but cutting someone 's else hair. Worst haircut of my life! Others seem to have had better luck, but my barber didn't cut as he agreed and weeks later I'm waiting for enough hair to grow back so that I can get a repair job elsewhere. Here's what happened. I took the first vacant chair and explained what I wanted--a simple medium cut. The barber agreed. After 20 minutes I saw that he had nearly shaved on side of my head, leaving the hair above it much longer. How goofy can it get?! The other side was cut too short also but at least tapered. I hate to think of the grades he got in barber's college. I'm sorry that I didn't get his name, because it's the other barbers in this shop who perhaps have earned the 4-5 star ratings. It was super close to my home and I liked his friendly conversation and the casual, authentic vibe of his shop. Then he moved to Potomac Village and I followed him without missing a beat. Landell is one of those people who projects a natural and effortless air of cool. I guess if you're from Costa Rica and your name is Landell, it's a requirement to be cool. And he can talk about sports, cigars, real estate, business, cars, and the full range of guy stuff. Of course, I also like the way he cuts my hair and his reasonable prices. I had been to every place from Hair Cuttery to the most expensive Potomac salons but the value and the overall experience at Landell's make it a keeper. Go for the haircut and hot neck shave for $16 because, haircut and hot neck shave for $16. In Potomac Village. My 17 y.o. son is also a regular at Landell's-- a testimonial that is hard to top. Heads up on Landell's stealthy location on Falls Road. Keep your eyes peeled on your first visit or you may drive right by, but once you find it, your hair will remember the next time. I've been to this barber shop twice, on the recommendation of my sister. She said only to go to Landell because the "curly haired woman" had cut her son's hair but did a lousy job of it, and Landell fixed it and it looked great. The first time I went in, other barbers were free, but I asked to wait for Landell. Both of my sons looked fantastic when he was done. The second time I went in, the only barber in the shop was the curly haired girl. I figured what the heck? My kids sit super still (unlike my nephew) so she can't be that bad. Wrong. It's awful. Not blended at all, super choppy, long in places and really, really short in others. I hate to give her a bad review because she's very nice, but I'm going to have to take them back to see Landell and have him fix this mess. read more

seriously, if you need to pack a lunch and drive in your car for hours to get here, its worth the trip. i am fairly new to the area (been here about 8 months), and i have been trying to find a good haircut ever since. i didnt find a good haircut, i found an outstanding haircut. so much attention to detail, the little things...going back and trimming rouge hairs, making sure my hair laid down perfectly. seriously, im impressed. dont go spend some crazy coin on a mall haircut when you can get a first class haircut right here.
