However, when we met with Larry to sign our paperwork to sell our home, it seems he didn't read the contract that was drawn for sale and seemed very easily frustrated by questions. The contract stated we were to be paid for the sale of our home in a cashier's check, certified funds, or cash. After we signed all of the paperwork, we were handed two personal business checks drawn on the bank of the attorney. This wasn't in the contract. When we asked Larry if he could have someone from the practice go a mile down the road to their bank to get cashiers checks (as the contract stated) and he said he was too busy and didn't have time. We then went to the bank ourselves, who refused to cash it or issue us a cashier's check because we didn't have an account with them. We came back to the attorney's office and explained that the method of payment they issued isn't what the contract stated. Again, we were met with Larry's condescending attitude and frustration that we wouldn't "simply deposit his checks and go away". An attorney that doesn't respect a legally binding contract? No thanks. I wouldn't recommend this practice. Poor communication prior to closing and poor communication in person. A disappointment all around. (I also see he's the one personally responding to all negative reviews with the same condescension we had the pleasure of experiencing in person.)

Please keep in mind, the attorney you choose ultimately has your freedom in their hands, they are your voice to have favor and/or mercy from the court. This is something I wish I had known before using this firm for my battle. The unfortunate situation that I found myself in this past year, I decided to use this firm again solely off the none-criminal representation in which I had hired Obie A. to handle that particular case. Obie was amazing, very knowledgeable and proficient and given those circumstances, I would recommend him again in a heartbeat. However, the naive thinking that this would be the case when applied against a different legal matter, cost me thousands of dollars resulting in very less than desirable outcome many months later. While Obie A. was NOT the suggested attorney for my criminal case - PER HIS PEERS at Owenby Law, I relented and move forward with Dustin N. as suggested. I was scared of the situation I was in, and never having to need a criminal attorney in my life, I trusted any and all counsel that was given to me without researching the background of my attorney based on the firms suggestion. Had I known prior to securing Dustin's representation what I found out after thousands of dollars spent, I would have known he was simply not a good fit for me and my case. For instance, the reasons surrounding his departure as a city prosecutor, becoming a defense attorney with the mindset that "he has sent people to jail for less" take it or leave it type attitude, his application of legal knowledge and self-confidence to argue my case, and his lack of urgency and timeliness to court hearings would have given me pause. I accumulated more fees texting, versus any actual attorney hours towards my case; I paid more money for his transportation to hearings, than any motion filed or negotiation attempts with the state. That is why it is imperative to select an attorney who is transparent with you from the very beginning , who keeps you updated as the updates occur, and not simply to run their hourly rate up. ***For example - While he was busy participating in civil war re-enactments, I was physically sick deciding if I were to adhere to his suggestion of resigning from my only place of employment *** In court they will ask you if you understand and are satisfied with your representation, but to be realistic - you have about 30-60 seconds to process the information said to you to respond yes or no. And after months of court hearings I was relieved for everything to finally be over; everything said to me honestly sounded like Charlie Browns teacher. The clerical staff at the Park Ave location has been great, a wonderful bunch, however a finance employee by the name - Joshnea H., has very questionable characteristics and one to watch very closely regarding any type of financial transactions. Just recently I received an invoice with an absurd charge against my payment plan. When pressed about said unknown fee she hung up. I've never seen this behavior from professionals, only from scammers during tax season, and towards the elderly. You would think at 300-400 dollars a hour, there would be some type of diginty in which they would carry themself. If you need a defense attorney, I would strongly suggest you hire one that has always been defense. And always, always, do a background check to ensure the attorney you hire ethics align with yours. If you don't ask the right question the first time to get the answer you're looking for ASK AGAIN in a different way--- they'll get you to understand. My bankruptcy was filed in August 2019, Discharged in January 2020. First week of February I was receiving credit card offers with 0% interest, no annual fee's from big companies; Discover, Capital One, Credit One to start rebuilding my credit and they were unsecured at that. I honestly wish there was a way to rate lower, but alas there isn't…read more So without further ado, here's my review in 2025 after 30 months of enduring the consequences of hiring this attorney in 2022 to represent me in what was a mostly non-contested divorce, with limited assets outside of a few vehicles and a home. I can honestly say that you are better off representing yourself, or at most saving the money and hiring a paralegal to file your case and forms for you. Trust me, you'll be better off for it, and will likely get better service. Because you truly don't get an attorney that will advocate for you, but will gladly exhaust your retainer for every email or phone call he wastes your time and hopes on. Attorneys are expected to be stewards of your rights, your representative, your advocate and above all - your counsel. Providing advice, direction and in many cases argument on your behalf when faced with another (more) skilled and confident attorney. My experience with this attorney was lacking all of the above. But I did get paralegal services. Albeit expensive ones. When it came time for mediation, Mr. Willmott was either absent or sat idly, disengaged and on mute the entire time, speaking a total of 3 sentences to the mediator and none to me. All of the dialogue was between the mediator and myself, which in effect is fine as it was my own case - but I paid him to represent me and provide counsel, to no avail. The duress of the divorce, an exhausting 6 hour mediation and frustration of having what was essentially a screensaver of Mr. Willmott "represent" me, had me commit myself to agreeing to let my ex have majority custody, possession of the marital home and all equity ($250,000+ in 2023) once sold, bridge the gap alimony for 9 months or until the house was sold, and all I got in return was $950/ mo child support due to erroneous calculations and lack of basic figure checking and proof reading of the calculator documents, all of the debt ($75k+) and diminished custody. Oh, and the gift of the ex's legal fees and mediation costs. And I was sold by Mr. Willmott that he conferred with Ms. Fulton - the other party's attorney, and this was as good as it gets. However, 5 months later I negotiated equal custody and forced the sale/refinance of the home by representing myself. Now, 30 months later, I had a reassessment for an equitable amount of child support which is now 2/3 lower (less than $350/mo). All done by representing myself. Please - do yourself and your children a favor. Don't entertain this attorney. Perhaps he may do better for you. But, in my experience, it felt like I was robbed. Not only financially but of peace of mind, confidence in the family court system, and hope. You're better off representing yourself if you're confident and competent or hiring a real attorney. Given his demeanor and lack of performance during mediation - perhaps he is partners with my ex's attorney, or there's an intimidation factor with her being a female? Regardless - this was my experience, which cost me dearly, in effect hundreds of thousands of dollars in equity and tens of thousands in debt and miscalculated child support. If you can gather facts and data, read and interpret basic statutes, fill out and file forms online, and are able to articulate yourself and stand your ground in mediation, represent yourself and skip hiring this counsel.
