Landmark Lanes. A place that I've been going to for years (for drinks/pool) yet have only bowled at twice. We decided to take my boyfriend's daughter bowling and invite along some friends and their daughter. We got there a little before 7 pm on a Saturday and it was still family friendly at that point. Prices are comparable to other bowling alleys and they were happy to put up the bumpers for the little ones (yeah my boyfriend benefited from them as well). All around a good time with some classic fun. My only complaint is that the speakers blast music near the lanes which made it hard to talk to each other. They have an arcade game area if that's your thing and of course a full bar or three depending what's open. Beware that your cell phone may not work since you're in a basement. Bald fat guy at the door was a total douche bag. Told us he doesn't except temporary ID's, which is fully illegal by the way, and denied our 25 year old friend because he only had a picture of his ID. Said that you need to be 21+ (which we all are) no matter what time you come in, even thought it says 21+ AFTER 9 PM. We entered at 8:30, but didn't think it would be an issue because we ARE ALL WELL INTO OUR TWENTIES. Great place. We used to slowly and discreetly sneek down those stairs as kids to access the video games. Sometimes we were bounced, others not. Coming back as an adult, I have been able to enjoy what I couldn't then. Namely, access to all of Landmark's pleasures, from the old-school bowling to the large main bar room and the mini bars nearby. This place has it all, in a way. It's really a supreme dive. It's not even on street level, that's how divey it is. But it's great. I've had a lot of fun here, and once I'm here, I usually don't have much interest in leaving. It's comfortable, there's a lot to do, and if you don't mind things being worn and perhaps a bit smelly, it's a blast. There's really nothing else quite like it. A relic from the past, to be sure, but whenever I'm here, I scratch a pleasurable itch of nostalgia and comfort. read more

Trash. Super expensive. Rude staff that apparently get angry when you ask questions. There is no music unless you pay for it. We had lane 1 and it's so crooked the ball flies to the left. You can't change any lanes either. Since apparently you have to tell the attendant exactly how many games you have to play, we asked to play 2 and asked if we could play more later. The attendant stated there is "always a waiting list" and told us no. 2 games later literally one other lane was occupied. Never coming here again. Go somewhere else. They don't even allow you to play pool cause of "Covid" but all other places allow you to play pool. read more

A great spot for pool and a pitcher of beer. Dark and the cell service is bad but it's a good getaway. Very laid back, approachable and feels like everyone is welcome. Bowling normally has a long wait but it's a fun time if you can get in. Make sure to bring your socks!! read more

This is a fun little spot in town! The drinks are affordable and the staff are friendly. I came here with some friends for a night of pool. The tables are first come first serve and they are $1 per game. They also have bowling and other games here as well. The drinks are strong and cheap. If you want to play games, I would suggest coming during happy hour time as the place tends to pick up as the evening creeps in. I do think they have to get rid of the carpet and place new ones down. They are a bit dated and they smell. They produce a strong order as soon as you descend down the stairs. I didn't eat food here but I would definitely try some if I was hungry. I plan to visit this place before I head back to Nashville! read more

You've probably driven past Landmark Lanes a million times without taking a second look. Next time you do, I would highly recommend stopping in. LL is located on Farewell and near North and it is so fun. I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to go bowling with some pals and it was quick and simple. Get your shoes, get a lane, pay when you leave which was super easy. Bowling lanes were a little old school which I loved. This place has so many games and a huge bar behind the bowling alley! I am sure it gets crowded on league night (which I have heard is on Thursday). This place has good vibes and it's super cool. read more

The website said they did bowling from 5pm-12am on friday. I went up to him and said "are there open lanes" he shook his head, didn't look at me. Then i said "it looks like lanes are open" he shook his head again. Then i said, "okay well it says online it's open until 12am" and he said, "it closes when i say it closes" this is totally disrespectful behavior and rude. i won't be going back here, which is sad because i did love this place for years. Shame on him. Shame on landmark and the management. then when i asked the bartender about if bowling was close she said "i don't know probably" in the most demeaning manner. I stumbled upon this during the Thanksgiving holiday in our favorite second city, Milwaukee. My daughter was amazed at the gravity-fed bowling ball return. The staff at the desk were very helpful and kind, top notch! And the rental shoes? I prefer my own back in Madison in my rental locker at Dream Lanes in Madison, but these were fun. We loved the small alley and didn't even get a chance to visit the arcade. If I'm not careful, the kid will want to go to college in Milwaukee. :) read more

First of all, the doors are open far before the establishment is open, which is deceiving. The manager clearly didn't care for our business. He greeted up with "we're not open yet", and mumbled something indecipherable under his breath after I cheerfully said "3 more minutes!:)" When we asked if pool was available he said "are you all 21?" then quickly said "no" and walked away since my brother was only 17 (with his sister, mom and grandma). Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes, a la Mister Bowie, at the Landmark. What's this? A concerted effort to clean up the space, fix the lanes, class things up (just a bit, mind you, this is the Landmark), and gasp! ELECTRONIC SCORING MACHINES for zee bowlers? Be still my beating heart, Landmark. I don't know what to think. I also don't know what to feel. 70s-era, Lebowski-esque seating endures, but the scoring? Auto-effing-matic, my friends. The strange, sleek, linear console looks like an even more dated version of some sort spaceship steering wheel straight outta Compton, er, Independence Day and also it's like an Atari or something. Don't get me wrong. It smells better in there, but it still smells like the Landmark. Need to make a phone call? Their 50-cent payphone(s) - yes, plural - have got you covered. But they've taken some real heavy duty cleaner to the joint, the lanes themselves look somewhat new-ish, and well, the Landmark? They're giving it the ol' college try, so why not give 'em another go? Tried to use a livingsocial coupon, but was refused because they are only taking "cash customers" only. The "less than" gentleman tried quoting the fine print stating "subject to lane availability." Not much to stand by when you see 6 lanes open and a family without reservations (paying cash of course) walks in, cuts the line and proceeds to take a lane. Rude and discriminatory, never going back here again. I know it's a Milwaukee staple but seriously, treat people with decency and respect. I don't mind paying the extra two dollars to go up to Pinstripes and Bayshore to be treated like a decent person with a better bar selection, food selection, and actual marked bowling balls with electronic scoring. Management needs to get their act together or else this "gem" of a place will lose plenty of customers. read more

Why do I love this place so much? Maybe because it has good memories from when I first starting coming to Milwaukee. When the air was filled with smoke, the bowling was hand score only, and the drinks were cheap? Now the place actually has fun animated themed screens to go along with the computer scoring. The bowling and drinks are still very reasonably priced (that's probably one of the major reasons I like Landmark Lanes). The only thing missing is the smoke wafting through the air. I generally hate smokey bars. However, this is the only place where I'd say, for some reason, I mysteriously miss the smoke. It added an ambiance to the place. The first time I walked in here after the smoking ban it just didn't feel right. But I'll get used to it. I love that they have (cheap) Strongbow on tap. And a mini arcade (air hockey!). And darts. I'm amused by the bad reviews of Landmark, or, as I like to call it "Landfill." Yes, it's a freakin' dump - it's a DIVE bar - and that's the point. It's charming, cheap, and the people-watching cannot be beat. Add to that pool, darts, video games and bowling, plus mini pool and jukeboxes? Killer. It's packed on weekends, and the crowds are ridiculously mixed, which is awesome. As for calling cops on underagers? I'm sure the cops have better things to do, but so should underagers who are trying to get into a bar illegally, right? Why should a bar lose a license over your stupid ass. I love Landmark and I'm over 30. I know that sounds weird, but I do. It has almost everything I want in a bar. There are multiple bars, a bunch of pool tables, pinball machines and the video games I want to play (read: Carnevil and DDR, I love them both). Drink prices are pretty decent too. I'm putting it at only 4-star (I'd do 3.5 if I could) for three reasons...1. The lanes at bowling do tend to break down, 2. The tap beer lines sometimes don't taste real clean and 3. Close your eyes. Relax, and imagine this. You're of drinking age (or close enough that no one in your family really cares) and you're leaving the confines of normal civilization. You're off, friends and whoever else in tow, to visit your weird aunt and uncle. Their house is kinda whatever, but the draw to this trip is the basement. Because down in the basement, Uncle Oostburg has built himself a mecca. He's got his own bar, some games, bowling and enough of a lack of light that it's like the best underage public hookup ever. You just have to get over the fact that it is, actually, a basement, complete with basement smell. And maybe the softer materials you might contact have been contacted by generations of hands (or worse) before yours. And maybe it's better that the light stays low enough that you can't see where you're stepping. But, regardless, there's a certain nostalgia to the place, from the signs to the games to the smell. The shoes are clean though. I watched them spray. Drinks are decently cheap, the crowd is random at best (some of these people actually think they're some sort of hardasses with their stares - haha), bowling is fun enough when the lanes are free and operating. But the place is best visited in cooler and drier months. My last visit this past fall was still reminiscient of the flood. read more

Today this place was as expected for a old, smelly, barely alive blowing alley. Until a drink bitch threw a hard bowling shoe at her "friend", missed and hit my 12 year old, knocking the wind out of her and bruising her back. I thought we could beat the drunk crowd by bowling before 5 with all of the other families and older crowd. I forgot I was in milwaukee near UWM, on a brewers game day. Love to have drinks but I am sure tired of the drunks in this town. Landmark is a fucking dive and doesn't apologize for it. Unapologetic bars get 5 stars any day in my book. Here you'll find bowling (every time i've bowled there, its been a good experience), ample amounts of arcade games, dart boards, etc. However, I'd have to say the best thing about this bar are the drink specials ($2 long islands monday, 3.50 bloodies sunday [awesome, btw], imports for cheap on tuesday, etc.). Cheap drinking, extreme dive bar atmosphere (you can see everything and everyone here), and a lively lively pool scene. I drag some of my dumb friends here so I can leave them talk to each other just so I can find a competitive game of pool! All in all, this bar is great if you love dives. Attention potential visitors: The Landmark is a dive bar. Dive bars are dark, smoky, smelly, cheap and a bit scary. If you can't hack it, stay at Bar Louie or whatever chain bar it is that you would normally patronize. The Landmark is not so much a bar as it is a hideout from obnoxious frat boys and the "Woo-hoo!" girls that follow in their wake. 4 hilarious characters I have met at this fine establishment: 1. Mr. Clueless old man: I met Mr. clueless old man a few weeks ago when he lit up a cigarette in the bar (this is months after the smoking ban btw) and obliviously blew his smoke rings through the crowd. When a fellow man standing beside him reminded him that he couldn't smoke here, he replied "ah f**k em", and continued to finish his cig. 2. The kick arse bartender: On most nights kick arse bartender is very polite, always smiling and asking what you'd like to have. On this certain night I walked into the bar to find him with his pants around his ankles shouting along to the jukebox. 3. The weird karaoke dude: Every bar has a weird karaoke dude but not like this one. This guy does it like its his career. only sings 80's hair-metal, but damn you should see his moves. 4. Mr table pool expert and his sidekick that he is mentoring: Mr. table pool expert explained all of the rules to my group of friends without us even asking. Then during his game against Mr. sidekick, every good shot he made, he would look back at us to make sure we saw it. read more

I read the reviews on the landmark, and after recently moving within walking distance a few weeks ago, I decided to try it. I was temporarily disappointed when I walked in check out the special in the main bar (I think it was $2 rail or $3 long islands) and the bartender said "That doesn't start till 9 pm." I was very happy, however, when he followed that with "I do have $1.75 rails since it's happy hour....if you're interested in that?" I have never been happier at happy hour. read more

We recently organized a group of 7 to do some bowling. We had previously met at a different alley in town, but the logistics of organizing around league nights was becoming too troublesome to manage, so we tried Landmark Lanes. Some notes: 1) The individual (male, ~50 years old, portly) working the counter was the most rude and non-customer service oriented individual I have come across in Milwaukee. We asked if we could get a lane, he said he didn't have any available (we could see 4 unoccupied) and then finally gave in and let us use one lane. Nobody bowled in the other lanes the entire rest of the time we were there. 2) The lanes don't appear to be waxed much, if ever. 3) Sticker shock. 4 of us bowled 3 games and 3 of us bowled 2 games. Bottom line was $85 including all games and shoe rental. That equates to $4.72/game. Seem high. Really high. The good: The bar was relatively well priced and had a fairly good selection of beer. I can't say enough how the counter guy made it seem like he was being inconvenienced by us trying to give him money to bowl. I would highly recommend finding a different place in Milwaukee to go to. read more

I've come here multiple times to bowl with friends and have a drink. Several times the two attendants upfront always mess up the amount of people we have bowling, charge us, and then refuse to refund us or let us finish our game. The staff always seem flustered and don't have any sort of compassion for the customers that pay money. If you come with a group prepare to be f***ed over! Don't come here! read more

Several bars, with different atmospheres from calm to party mode, small arcade, several pool tables, cork dart boards, etc. My buddy and I went to sit down and play cards and have a few drinks and the service was good, drinks were fairly priced. Sure, the bowling lanes can be a little jacked up, or least the pin setters can, the balls are not numbered with weights, and you may have to do math while bowling unless someone in your group is good with numbers (I am not), but this place is fun just the same. They have good drink specials and good prices otherwise. they have a pretty decent selection of video games, including at least one of those dancing games if you want to look ultra silly (or ultra awesome if you can dance, I can't). I'm not really a fan of this place but I'll come here if someone I know really insists on coming here. The two main draws for me are arcade games and beer but their arcade games are hardly ever functioning at even half capacity and their tap beers often have that "special" taste to them. I've typically had off putting interactions with staff here. Waiting forever for someone to acknowledge my presence or serve me especially with the bowling. And when they do, the guys are often rude, grumpy as fkk or impatient. It seems they play favorites or pick and choose who they treat nicely. I think the highlight of one of my visits here was once when a beggar on the street stopped me before I went in to Landmark and asked me if I had any food because he was hungry so I told him I'd buy him a pizza here. The staff yelled at him and told him he wasn't welcome here and not a paying customer and wanted him to leave. I kept telling them this pizza is for him because he's hungry and waiting with me for the pizza. Then I talked about how, if I was in his shoes, I would sure hope someone would help feed me if I needed it. I understand businesses have certain policies and procedures. He ate the fkking pizza like there was no tomorrow. Dude was hungry. Anyway, this place really isn't worth my time or money. read more

Landmark stands as my benchmark of the old Milwaukee style of bowling alley (RIP Echo Bowl). The lane equipment looks like a Cadillac Coupe DeVille, the video arcade is within earshot, and you can make it roundtrip to the wood-paneled bar before it's your turn to roll again. We went here for a family field trip on Christmas afternoon and it was refreshingly calm on the lanes. I'm sure Saturday nights are a bit more lively. There were a couple new elements that broke away from the vintage feel: the bowling shoes were practically brand new and the digital, animated scorekeeping devices were easy to navigate. They don't have food for sale (besides a couple of vending machines), but the tap selection is halfway decent. read more

SIX Pinball machines (one hidden at the back bar), about a bajillion pool tables, a bumper pool table, bowling, darts... Quite a lot to do here. It's a dive bar--or bars, since there are 3 entirely separate bars within--but since the smoking ban, you can now safely enter without feeling like you've just entered a cigarette factory that happened to catch on fire. A couple years later, it's time to re-assess. First, the good news: The bowling alleys have been updated. New balls is a bonus, and I think they might have done some work on the lanes. The switch to computerized scoring makes me feel a bit sad, but considering how often I get stuck scoring because nobody else in my group knows how at places that don't have it, I suppose it's time to let go. Something needs to be said about the arcade situation, though. First thing you'll notice is the Dance Dance Revolution machine, volume turned up to 11, repeating the same five bars of some vapid tune in a desperate effort to attract quarters that will never come because the last time anyone cared about this game Scott Walker still worked for the county. Years ago it was irritating, but Landmark was one of the best places in the city to play pinball, and that was enough to motivate a person to put up with it. Which brings us to the pinball, and brings me to the sadness. Oh, how far we have fallen. At the same time that pinball has experienced a renaissance in Milwaukee, the pinball situation in Landmark has entered a dark age. The selection of machines has gone way downhill, and what machines there are are generally in a state of poor repair. That Terminator 2 could probably carry the whole bar, being such a great old classic. It's even the furthest one from that wretched DDR machine. But it's been well over a year since I last saw it to be fully operational. It just sits there, derelict. Maybe even a little symbolic, like the People Mover in Detroit, if downtown Detroit had loudspeakers blasting 1/85 of 1997's hottest new dance tune on permanent repeat. read more
