Good music theater but they need new seats. None are recliner and they also don't sell icees which those two things are reasons why I'd see a movie in a theater

My local theater. It's grandiose facade makes it easy to spot. They have ample auditoriums so you can always catch a feature. It's also usually the location for many premiers, Art house films and film festivals. It's a great spot in a busy neighborhood packed with restaurants all up and down Clark and Broadway too. But honestly you don't have to go that far for a night out either there's plenty of fun activities in the building and a pretty nice lounge and bar located in the theater.

And they have just expanded the historic building to include a third theater, not to mention the garden behind the Lounge where we have seen a couple of films. It's always a treat when a show in Theater 1is preceded by organ music by Dennis Scott; he generally themes the music to the movie (ex: when we saw "Contempt" this weekend he said all the songs he played were from the year the film came out). They show everything: action, romance, foreign films, cult classics like "Rocky Horror," thrillers and suspense, indie films, documentaries, animation. Every Valentine's Day they show "The Princess Bride," and they do series like "Metal Movie Night," "Cat Video Fest," and "Sapphopalooza." The building itself is reason to go, particularly since it has been restored and new chairs were put into Theater 1 a couple of years ago. We have been in both Theaters 2&3 now since that more recent renovation and they also look beautiful and are very comfortable. Check out a movie and a piece of Chicago history at the same time!

The theater I went to was very clean and the reclining chair was warm and comfortable. Wait staff was courteous. I ordered my ticket online on their website and there were no problems with it. I loved that I could order a tall glass of water. THANK YOU for that. I haven't been to many places that just offer water that isn't in a plastic bottle. Viewers were very respectful. The theater was dead quiet through the whole movie and everyone followed the rules. Good vibe, good crowd. Good size screen and good arrangement. I can't wait to come back. I might even be back tomorrow. Best cinema experience I've had, and the best viewing crowd I've been in too. A tip for when you're ordering: When the movie started, it was too dark in the theater to scan the QR code again. Thankfully I could get the tab screen back up. Do not close your browser window on your phone so you can go back to it if you want to order more!

A little worse every time I go. Before the pandemic I'd go to the SF location every weekend…read more Then the service got worse. Food would show up cold, wrong, late and the staff became helpless to fix the problem. Then they got rid of the servers, replaced them with runners and a QR code, and as far as I can tell you can't even get a refill anymore. They try really hard to force a 20% tip out of you for this single visit to your table. Now the food is unappetizing mush rather than typical bar food. I think I'm done. I'd literally rather go to one of the big chain theaters than pay double for cold fries and a meal that's still frozen in the center.

Not easy for me as a perpetual outsider, loner, stray human, and ex-New Yorker still wary of the warmth of midwesterners. But I like Facets. It's a place where you can get lost for hours, where you can mainline art, hook up to an IV of imagination nutrients and heal from the cruelty and sorrow of the current world. Facets is a community, welcoming, inclusive, queer-celebrating, and weird-positive. I've been there when they served cherry pie on Twin Peaks movie night and on a day where they piled ramen noodle containers sky high to make a pyramid of tastiness after anime night. I've had friendships deepen while watching obscure Asian horror films and I've witnessed audience members singing along to the most oddball musicals known to man. I've felt myself change there, become a little more human, a little more happy. Facets is indispensable to me. To all who make the theater possible, thank you. All the work you put in, it matters and it makes an impact. Keep up the great programming.
