We celebrated our anniversary tonight at Mr. Lester's Steakhouse and had a solid experience…read moreoverall. We started with the chargrilled oysters. They were just okay, the oysters themselves were on the small side and the bread served with them was a little tough. That said, they brought out a separate basket of house breads that were excellent. Fresh, warm, and worth the calories. For entrées, we ordered the sea bass and the 14 oz ribeye. The sea bass was very good and generously topped with crab meat, rich without being overpowering. The ribeye, though, was the star of the night. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and absolutely mouthwatering. Exactly what you expect from a proper steakhouse. Sides were creamed spinach and lyonnaise potatoes. Both were well prepared and complemented the meal nicely. For dessert we shared the crème brûlée, and as always, it delivered, smooth custard with that perfect crack on top. To top it off, they brought out a plate with chocolate-covered strawberries and a few other sweet treats, which was a nice touch and made the evening feel special. Overall, a very enjoyable dinner. The steak alone is reason enough to come back.

The special grouper with lump crab was rich, fresh, and packed with flavor, and the steak was cooked exactly as ordered and topped with a delicious bleu cheese crust with a side of black truffle butter. Every dish was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. The atmosphere was upscale yet comfortable, and very clean. The staff was 100% impeccable in every detail of the word hospitable.

I've eaten the shrimp gumbo here for years, always very good. The restaurant shrimp or seafood…read moregumbos in this Cajun area are pretty standardized in that all the best places like Pat's, Forest, Dupuy's, Fezzo's, Don's, & St. John offer nearly identical gumbos. Much better than anything in New Orleans ! Just try it, please. My fav's here are the stuffed shrimp, fried shrimp in corn flour, corn grits, & the small filet mignon. Others are stuffed potato & bread pudding. Occasionally, their daily specials will be very good. Caveats; Arrive very early for Saturday supper. Father Vidrine's 4:00 Mass celebrations @ nearby Saint Martin de Tours Church are very popular; all of the folks arrive en-masse for supper right afterwards at 5:00PM. Also, this Chef just doesn't do soft-shell crabs very well; strange, b/c his other crab dishes are great. Good, dependable restaurant toujours !
