Leading up to that, we have seen some improvement to some of the trails but not all of them. Some of the trails are pretty much impassable at this point and could be closed. For this past Halloween duck hunt event, it was publicized as including an after ride party with live music. There was no live music either night, and the bar was not open. No liquor license renewed, so no bar. For some in our group, this was a major disappointment. They are currently looking at other options for holiday bookings for our riding group where more amenities will be consistently available.

There was several miles…read morelong of traffic and they were not directing people appropriately, from what I would have thought. The day before they told us we could go to the left side to pass everyone since we already had our passes. I believe the weekends they have the night ride is when it's super crowded like this. We had a lot of fun and there were thousands of people there. The only thing I did not like was like I said the traffic. They should've had a dedicated lane for people who already had passes although we rode past everyone as soon as we get off the highway on a two-lane road and we're able to get in after about 15 minutes there were people that had been in line for three hours that we actually knew that did not do what we did. So that's one downside. Another was ordering the food was quick, but it took 15 minutes for an order of fries to come out. There was only one line so that was another thing where they should've had it split and had two people on the register if possible, but other than that, it was an overall great experience. I would definitely go back, but maybe not during a weekend there is a night ride because it was so crowded. We decided to leave and not do the night ride which was the whole reason we actually had went Unfortunately, someone actually lost their life this past weekend while we were there. I'm not sure all of the details but I did see their body laying on the ground, which was a bit disturbing so I will not go into details out of respect for the person in their family. Another thing I noticed was that all of the other ATV places we've gone to there is a rule if you are on a four wheeler or dirtbike you have to have a helmet. Apparently this rule is not enforced here because there were several people who were on four wheelers and dirt bikes, and no one had on helmets! And the side-by-side or ATVs of course it's not required, but I would imagine being on a four wheeler or a dirtbike it's strictly enforced whether you're on a trail or on the road in the parking lot. And unfortunately, the person who lost their life was on a four wheeler and they did not have a helmet.

When it's available, the picnic shelter is first come first serve. The playground and swing sets are in good condition though shade is limited and there do not appear to be any benches or seats for the grown ups to rest while the little ones are playing. The SC Department of Natural Resources established the James Ross Wildlife Reservation on October…read more4, 1995. It was donated to the DNR by Ms. Kitty W. Sandifer. Ms. Sandifer was born on the property and lived most of her life in nearby York, SC. She was a school teacher prior to her retirement and lived to be 96 years of age before her death in February 1994. In her will, Ms. Sandifer requested that this property be known as the James Ross Wildlife Reservation. A parking area is available and a sign dedicating the tract is present. The James Ross Wildlife Reservation consists of 305 acres and lies approximately 2 miles southwest of the town of York in York County, SC. It is located south of Ross Branch and is intersected by State Road 35 (Old Pinckney Road). Pine timber stands comprise about 150 acres and are primarily natural shortleaf, some Virginia pine and two small areas of loblolly pine. A significant number of desirable mast-producing hardwood species such as red oak, white oak, hickory, beech and dogwood occur on the tract and account for approximately 145 acres. Several small wildlife openings are present. This is about as wildlife as it gets. It's not only a nature preserve but it's also far from cities and development. There is a fire management road through it and I walked along it briefly to see what was what. There was no noise from cars planes or people. For a few dollars a person, this is a good day use park. There is a picnic area near the parking…read morelot. The amphitheatre is nearby also. Then it is just a short walk to the museum and a few monuments. I'm not sure if there is really any connection to Jackson himself aside from the name and monuments. But there are some artifacts which date from around his time. The history here, indeed the whole area, is a history lacking from the west coast. So, whether related to the 7th president or just his era, it is cool for a life long west coaster to visit and learn. Other highlights of this state park which I did not have an opportunity to check out are camp sites, a lake with canoe rentals and a 1 mile nature trail. Practically something for everyone.

This park is located about 20 miles off the I-77 interstate. There is plenty of signage to guide you. The park is $3 per adult and $1 per child with a pay station. Park opens at 9am. Plenty of parking! We walked around the statues, the meeting house, and the schoolhouse. Kids enjoyed ringing the bell. There are picnic tables and a covered shelter with additional tables. There is a restroom that is depicted as a log cabin. So is the picnic shelter. Very Rustic looking. The kids enjoyed looking at everything, reading the markers and taking their own photos. It was very relaxing and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them take their own photos. I hope they always enjoy history! Kayla Beth Fields , the kids and I had a great little adventure.

I've sampled most of the DG courses around Charlotte and it'll be hard to find one with more…read morepersonality than Winthrop's. Stacked with baskets dancing on the edge of the lake, riddled with wooden area, long and open drives, murders of geese and even a fortress of bamboo. Each time is different weather conditions and they make for different levels of play. The landscape is absolutely breathtaking. Beautiful lake, huge trees, well-manicured fields. All make for an advanced level of play and scenic views. Often, we have gone with friends and some of us go to play and others join to just walk along the course. It's such a beautiful facility, you really can just enjoy the views without even picking up a disc. The only downside to this course is that the direction, starting point and course map are not clearly laid out. You'll have to google or check out one of the disc golf websites for further direction on where to start. We've ended up making our own course out of the available baskets. Some can be pretty hard to find, too. Also, there aren't bathrooms around the course, so go beforehand if need be! Happy disc golfing!
