Located in Federal Plaza this location is easily missed. I stopped in out of desperation when I needed an outfit last minute. Once I entered the store it seemed well stocked but completely empty during the evening. I was greeted by one employee and another was working on displays. I browsed for a bit before realizing that I haven't bought anything at Lane Bryant in years and there was a reason. While on my way out the employees became overly engaged. I made the mistake of not leaving and ended up trying on everything they recommend- I have a hard time saying no. I didn't like anything but felt slightly obligated to buy something since we just played Barbie. Luckily I looked myself straight in the eyes in the dressing room and told myself no. I left without anything and it was super awkward. I haven't been back sense. I love when employees are engaged but this was over the top. I can only assume they hadn't had a customer in a while and were excited to have something to do. If Lane Bryant is your style and you can say no without feeling rude this location is fine lol read more

I have had pretty mixed experiences at this store. Once or twice, I've had great customer service- enthusiastic sales people on the floor who offer to stick my clothes in a dressing room or fit me for a bra size, etc. I also had a bra fitting here that was spot on, and I learned I had been wearing the wrong bra size for awhile (whoops!). Sometimes I have trouble with the fit on LB dresses, but I wear their bras and underwear pretty much exclusively. However, I've had a few less-than-great experiences here too. First, they seem a little unorganized. For example, once they took my clothes to put in a dressing room and then somehow decided to re-rack them all- so when I went to try on my clothes, nobody knew what happened to them. Eventually we figured it out, they apologized, and they helped me try to "recreate" my selection of clothing, so it wasn't a huge deal. More importantly, there is a lot of variability in the quality of their staff. Some of them are not particularly friendly or proactive. One particular experience the other day (details below) makes me suspect I won't be visiting this store again anytime soon. I went to return a dress (and possibly browse for more items) and I was the only customer in the store. I walked up to the desk and gave a friendly greeting to the two ladies working behind the desk- neither of them really acknowledged me and just kept working/talking to each other. After a minute or two, one of the women asked what I needed help with. I told her I needed to return a dress I purchased online. About 5+ minutes later, during which she completely ignored me to type on her computer and chat/complain about other things with the second employee, she told me she couldn't return it unless I had the original credit card on me. I didn't have it, and I tried to offer her other solutions- e.g., what if I know the credit card number? What if I provide another credit card? etc. She just acted annoyed, turned her computer screen to face me and in response, would only say, "I need the original card." However, this is not stated on the Lane Bryant website- it just says you need the packing slip or you get store credit- and I had driven 40 minutes round-trip to return the dress. She didn't attempt to empathize with me (e.g., "I'm sorry, I know it's frustrating, but it's store policy") or offer me other options (e.g., perhaps I could have exchanged the dress for a new item without the original credit card). She literally just stared, kept repeating that, and acted like I was annoying her by wasting her time. I was pretty upset by the fact that I had wasted time and gas to attempt to return the dress, and also by the complete lack of care by the staff, so instead of browsing for new shoes or clothes, I just left. Instead of bothering to return to the store, I just paid $7 to mail the clothes back. It is frustrating, as it's great that there is a local store that caters to plus-size women, and I want to be able to support the store. And sometimes the staff has been great, so I don't want to say this is representative of all of them. But after having one bad experience that left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't feel the urge to give the store my money again anytime soon- I'll stick with online ordering from LB for now. Bottom line: LB is a plus-size store that is a little pricey but sometimes has great clothes/underwear/accessories/PJs, and this location is fairly convenient, but be aware that the customer service may be variable. read more

I get it: Retail is hard. It can be thankless (even degrading), customers can be nightmarish, and it never pays enough for the work involved. Because I know all this, I take care not to be one of those customers. But I expect a little common decency. First, the good: It's always clean, and they're fairly accommodating about returns. I've had a couple of very patient and friendly associates help me, Kayla and Suzanne. They deserve recognition. The bad: Aside from those two ladies, I don't think I've ever received a smile at this store. In fact, one of the associates who's always there makes me feel downright unwelcome with her looks. (Again, trust me: I know what it's like to want customers to just GO AWAY. But not when they're courteous and polite or just minding their own business?) Today one of the associates asked me if I needed any help. I said I was looking for a certain style bra in any color in a [high band size, low cup size]. I've gained weight and inches around, but not in the cup size, and believe me, I'm insecure about it. She actually laughed and said "oh no, not in that size. Not in the store." As in, that's an oddball size and it's not reasonable to ask if it's in stock. When I worked in the Macy's Intimates dept, the response would've been "I can check the system to see if there are any in stock nearby or online." There would have been SOMETHING in stock, mind you, but I'd have made the offer regardless. Instead I walked away embarrassed from her and her associate friends (who were talking about how the music in the store was "sad wrist-cutting music") and ordered what bras I could find online, on my phone, before the sale was over. By then I could only find two on the whole site; half my cart went out of stock before I could finish my order. I wasted my time. More importantly, I think it's safe to say that bra size isn't something you want to be insensitive about, especially if your job is to *sell bras*. And this is a Lane Bryant. Is it unreasonable to expect a little sensitivity about body shape and size? I have tremendous hangups about my body, and Lane Bryant is not a place I expect to go and made to feel worse about them. There are cheaper places to shop. I consciously made the decision to drive to an inconvenient location and fight for parking to support a brick-and-mortar instead of shopping the bra sale online because I don't want everything to turn into Amazon. But making your customers feel antagonized and even mocked is not the way to keep your stores open, Lane Bryant. I will not be returning to this location and I will be looking to Torrid, ASOS, Forever 21, and Eloqui next time. read more

Its a lane bryant- it's not Hermes or Valentino but I had a 5 star shopping experience here. I went in for active wear and was greeted and told about the sales. The sales associate asked if I was lo king for anything and I activewear but I'm just gonna browse here for a little. Then she said that she would pick some piece for me in activewear and start a dressing room. Ok, cool. As I continued to shop, the ladies continues to put together outfits (active and normal) and ask me if I wanted to try them on. Everything they showed me was cute and some combos I would not have put together but really loved. It was nice to have people so attentive but who were not pushy. They helped me make choices between garments and I felt their opinions were honest. It is so easy to order online these days and that is why we see so many brick and mortar locations closing BUT you can't get this kind of service online. It is experiences like this that will keep in person retail alive. Seriously, I hope the LB district managers read this- you have a gem in your staff at this location. Treat them well. I did ask for names but my memory sucks and I have forgotten but if you're from LB and want to reach out, I will happily give details of my visit so you can praise your staff. read more

I went in the other day to exchange some items I had purchased. I was not greeted when I walked in. I walked right to the sales counter, where the manager was on the phone. Not only was the manager on the phone talking about non work related topics, but she literally stared at me like I had no right being there. She continued her conversation as I just stood at the counter for what must have been at least 5 minutes. The manager finally decides I should be helped and calls to one of the store associates to assist. Well, the store associates thought it would be cute to reply with a "NO". REALLY? I have never in my life experienced such horrible service. Your job is not that hard, you are not doing hard labor, you can walk a bit to the counter to help a customer out. I have been to this particular location several times now and have never had a serious issue with it. The ladies who work here are always so helpful, in the store is always very neat and in order. The only issue I've ever had was I purchased two pair of pants of the yoga kind. When I got home I realized when I had grabbed two pair in my size off the yoga shelf one of them was a Capri. However when I returned to the store and showed the lady it was no problem returning it and getting another pair of yoga pants. She even threw in another coupon of real woman dollars for my troubles. The customer service is great at this location and at the location on Baltimore National Pike in Baltimore, Maryland. Whenever they do not have my size or a certain color in stock, they will order it for me and have it shipped to the store or my home-for free. The staff provides honest opinions about how clothing looks on me and other customers. They are not just trying to make a sale, like most retailers. Keep up the good work, ladies. By the way, I didn't give 5 stars because the shoes I purchased from there recently hurt my feet, although they were fashionable. read more

I also have had several negative experiences when attempting to shop in this store. If I'm just browsing I don't feel the need to be greeted the moment I enter the store. But I have often come in with a particular item in mind, or an order to pick up (hate to pay for shipping!), and have been unable to get someone's attention or assistance. The last time I had an exchange I literally had to stand there and wait while two employees talked as one was fussing with a display. I've worked retail, and I understand being given a task to accomplish by a certain day or time, but making people wait while you chat IS JUST RUDE, whether you're the employee, or a customer yapping on a mobile phone. This seems to be a pervasive attitude at the store because it's been from every single employee I've ever encountered there. I don't normally post reviews, but this place is so repeatedly awful that I felt compelled to add mine to the others so people can be forewarned. The one at Rio is a bit better with customer service, though I think it's smaller. If corporate has any say in hiring they ought to get involved with this store, because the employees' attitudes and actions affect our opinion of LB. read more

I cannot stand all of the hype about Lane Bryant! I live in the Olney, Maryland area, (Ashton), if you want to get technical and I have found no Lane Bryant closer to me than this one. Yes, I know the online catalog and the store are different, but that's besides the point of my complaint. I will admit happily, that I am plus sized and while I am short and hold more of my weight in my belly and butt, breasts are still large enough to be considered in the "plus sized" bra category. I looked online and then went to look at this store's location which is the closest one to my home (an approximate 2 1/2 hours away by bus) and got pissed to find out that they did not carry my size in bras! Even when they measured me for them. I measured at a 48c (current size) to a 50c. They don't carry the 48c. If you have ever looked on their online catalog and I am sure most of us have at one time or another, list the sizes by the smallest number they have (it starts out at 36c and then they continue on for all the letters they carry in that sizes and then to the next size. So, 36C, 36D, 36DD, 36DD and then 38B, etc). When you get to the section on the online list where the 48's are there are NO 48C's!!!! Same as in the store!!!! It's as if they don't even consider my size(s) a number(s)!!!! I seriously had a better time sizing and fitting myself at Target, JCPenny, Wal-Mart and Kmart!!!! Yes, the last two are a stretch, but some days those have been better than "high-end" priced JCP and I only go to them if I'm extremely desperate! I will admit that I can also not do the fancy satin or lace, etc. because of my sensitive skin and I mainly shop at Westfield Mall, (across from Wheaton Metro) and it has a Macy's where I can go and triple check my measures, as needed and on the rare occasion that I have enough money to afford their bras I will get bras from them, as a courtesy for sizing me. I can only wear the ugly nude, black, brown and white ones that are cotton and have the large 4-5 hook back straps and 2inch wide shoulder straps and sometimes come in bright blue or an ugly pink. Not that I mind those bras, I'm used to it. BUT, IF A STORE ADVERTISES ITSELF AS A STORE THAT SELLS TO THE PLUS SIZED MARKET IT SHOULD AT LEAST DELIVER THE GOODS!!!! The time I went there, the ONE time I went to browse made me never want to return. I heard ladies complain that they had received harassing phone calls, there were plenty of other pathetic service issues, as well, such as coupons not being taken, women complaining of clothes the had come back to return after a days worth of use fraying and/or having seams destroyed and buttons falling off, the day I went the winter clothes were out instead of the spring ones. It's ridiculous and I am never going back to make a purchase from them. I'd rather try Catherine's which is even farther away and while it caters to an older crowd too, like Lane Bryant does, I have found some of their clothes far more tasteful than anything JCP has rolled out this spring. Lane Bryant has lost a customer, they never had. To be honest I even saw some stuff falling apart on the racks and saw a sales clerk circling around and instead of pulling the fraying and worn clothing off of the racks, she was actually moving them to the middle in one of those pathetic, "We hope no one will notice these bad items in the back/middle." attempts to try and make their bad stuff look more easy to sell!!!!
