My family and I have been going to Lane Farms for the last 15 years, and we generally enjoy every visit for everything they offer, from the challenging (and free!) corn maze, to the interesting and instructive teachings on farm life, to the old tractors and hay ride, and the little shop they provide, selling pumpkin butter and candy corn. There are a lot of farm pumpkin patches that sadly lay out their pumpkins on a hard, crumbly dirt lot, but Lane Farms at least tries to situate an actual pumpkin patch atmosphere, with plenty of hay and actual greenery surrounding the pumpkins. They also put up walls of corn stalks to cut us off from the street in order to "seal in" the Halloween/autumn ambiance. If I were to register any complaint, it would be about their high prices compared to other pumpkin patches in Santa Barbara County. Overall, it is a pleasant experience to visit Lane Farms! read more

We went to Lane Tree Farms today with another couple of families. The setting is lovely - lots of pumpkins, farm animals, hay rides. It would be the perfect place for kids except for the rude staff and the overly restrictive rules. The staff spent the whole time yelling at the kids not to do kid things like climb a tree, ride a wagon, carry a pumpkin! I understand liability but they really killed the fun. One lady yelled at my daughter and made her very upset - it was out of line. We won't be going back. I suggest you take your kids somewhere else for a friendly experience. read more

For a kids pumpkin patch this was cute. I see it doesn't have the best reviews but I really thought it was fun to get in the spirit of Halloween. The selection was big. The pumpkins looked nice. ALL sizes. Tiny to huge. Didn't even see any terrible looking ones like you usually do. They all looked pretty nice. The maze was fun! Lots of kids but we did get a little lost. I wish they had treats! That's the only thing it was missing. For a pumpkin patch it was definitely cute and kid friendly. I would recommend to families. read more

This has been my go to during covid. I don't go many places lately but I feel comfortable at this open air stand. They ensure all baskets and carts are wiped down and provide hand sanitizer. Best though, is their produce. This time of year they have the best corn and strawberries!!! So good!!! Also if you go during the week the get the best fresh made bread. Support local! read more

A charming little farm stand right off Hollister that offers fresh seasonal produce, much of it grown out back. I go for the lettuce, which tends to go bad by the time I'm home when you buy a box of it at the store. But I always find other delectable goodies. I also like to treat myself to some legit fresh eggs every now and again. The service is always super friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Like a small Farmer's Market without the crowds and the past who plays that strange instrument. This is a great spot. read more

This is my favorite place to take the kids to find our Halloween pumpkins! There are so many different pumpkins that come in all shapes and sizes. There are little areas to take photos and a fun corn maze. The farm animals are fun to watch especially when it's feeding time. It wouldn't of been Halloween without coming here to get our pumpkins! I came here with some friends the week before Halloween to pick our pumpkins to carve. There was so many pumpkins to choose from but we all took our time each choosing of our pumpkins. We had to get a wagon to put all of our pumpkins in because we had so many! It was fairly busy the day we came full of people taking photos, looking at pumpkins, and doing the other activities that this place has to offer. We decided to do the free corn maze since it looks like fun! It was difficult to navigate but we finally made it out! Luckily it was still daylight out. If it was dark out I don't know how we would of made it out! They sell bagged kettle corn and churro bites which were delicious! The prices of the pumpkins weren't too expensive. They rang from $5-$40+ depending on the size of the pumpkin. We also found out that they take credit cards which was great! Last night I bought a Christmas tree at Lane Farms, but when I got the thing home I realized that the staff only left 1" of trunk on the bottom. I pulled out my handsaw, but after 2 hours of fighting with it, I drove the beast back to the farm and asked them to put on their own stand (i.e. plastic bucket and two pieces of plywood, ~$.85). I wasn't upset, but when they asked me to pay for the stand I protested, noting that the previous cut was useless (it required at least 3" of chainsawing lower branches by their staff). But the staff woman kept saying, "If you don't tell us to cut off branches we won't. We don't know what you're going to do with it when you get home." Um.....?! What did she think I was going to do with it? Make wreaths? Replant it? Mulch my yard? After 3 minutes of arguing I gave up and paid ($17!) for the stand to just get the ordeal over with and salvage the night for my kid. Then, as I was quietly leaving (I'd literally thrown my back out, so certainly wasn't making trouble), the woman behind the counter yelled after me, "Try to have a nice Christmas!?" Wha?! In addition to being mean, that's just bad business. If a single mom has to drag her 100 lb tree back to the lot 2 hours later, throw her a bone. Maybe eat the plastic bucket, and certainly don't taunt her on the way out the door. I'm all for paying more for local, but not if that means dealing with staff that are incompetent, self-righteous, and cruel. ***To be clear, this is NOT about the daily farm stand. The staff there are always really kind and chill. The Christmas farm staff could use some Christmas compassion. read more

Nothing says it's fall like a evening at Lane Farms surrounded by pumpkins. It's a great location for a photo shoot opportunity, it's a family friendly spot and they have yummy treats after attempting their corn maze. This year the hayrides weren't an option, for obvious reasons but that didn't take away from the experience. There are pumpkins galore, farm animals to feed and the produce stand to check out. Charming, wonderful authentic Family Business selling awesome produce at their Goleta "Green Stand" all year; morphs into hugely fun Pumpkin Maze-Patch at Halloween, then the Christmas Farm each November-December. This is the real deal: a Farming Family, fun helpful employees who are also locals, *farm animals*, educational tours for young students to learn about where/how their food is grown, and the wonderful spirit of the Goodland always. Our kids practically grew up here--now grown and gone with parents who live in the SYV and don't know how to act without a Lane Farm Christmas. Heck, their website 2020 describes excellent Pandemic Precautions. Perhaps we'll make a two-hour round trip for a REAL tree and a bit of socially distanced nostalgia and holiday magic. The location may have changed, but this farm gets better every year. As a Goleta local, I would come to Lane Farms nearly every year for an elementary school field trip when they were located across the street from their current location on what is now two small residential culs-de-sac (Cinderella Lane, Oak View Lane). I feel the old location was more central and open, but their current home is just as wonderful. This isn't just another generic pumpkin patch. It's a whole experience. You'll find a farm stand with produce and small gifts, a petting zoo, a fun corn maze, tractor rides, a large scarecrow for photo ops, and pumpkins/gourds of all sizes. This location also turns into a Christmas tree farm during the holidays. This is the only pumpkin patch in town that has a corn maze. I like coming here every year to take pictures next to the scarecrow and go through the corn maze. Even though it's the same maze every year, it's always fun to do. They have a variety of pumpkins in different sizes. The smallest pumpkin starts from $5. They even have a little tractor ride that goes around the whole patch and a little petting zoo. Although I hail from a place where tractor rides were legitimately the only way to get to the pumpkin patch (shoutout to all my Midwesterners out here!), Lane Farms is the only place that gives me the same kind of vibes the pumpkin patches of my childhood gave me. Although small, Lane Farms has a corn maze, tractor ride, some small farm animals & wagons in addition to their pumpkin patch. Although the pumpkins have been pre-picked (from their patch literally a mile down Hollister) they arrange them in a way that gives you the idea of hunting for the perfect pumpkin through the field. They offer a variety of pumpkins (carving, decorative, eating), squash, and corn to fulfill every Californians' secret rural desires. Free admission, all you have to do is pay for the items you purchase. Parking it limited so you may be regulated to the street depending on the time of day you visit. Lane Farms is one of those places that is fun for all ages - little kids love to run up and down the aisles of pumpkins and young women (like myself) love taking pictures in them. Autumn is finally here! It wouldn't be the season or even Halloween without a visit to a Pumpkin Patch! Coming from the Midwest, this was always an annual tradition--yet the options are much more slim in Santa Barbara County. Thanks to the communities of Yelp and NextDoor, I found out about this little slice of family-owned Fall fun. It satisfied my cravings, minus the lack of Apple Cider, Pumpkin Pie or Donuts (instead, they sell bagged kettle corn and churro bites). Be sure to check out: -The small "petting zoo" farm with three goats, a pot belly pig and my personal favorite, Larry the donkey. -The FREE corn maze. It was difficult to navigate during the daylight, so I can only imagine in the darkness. It closes an hour before close (so 8 pm when they close at 9 pm). -The choice of pumpkins. While the Lane Farm's Green Stand is present off Walnut Street all year long, the pumpkin patch has pumpkins, gourds and squashes for sale to decorate your house or carve. Some are priced with a permanent marker near the stem, while the larger pumpkins are priced based on size. There's a row of pumpkin prices at the cash register ranging from $5-$30+. Keep in mind, if you go early in the season like I did, wait to carve your pumpkin until it's 2 weeks to Halloween--otherwise it may shrivel up before the 31st! -The gracious Lane family members who run the place since 1868! Find the employees in matching shirts who are super outgoing, welcoming and willing to help. There's nothing like a family owned business! Although they're now surrounded by houses and businesses in this pricey area, they still manage to keep it up and running for us to make memories. This was such a cute little pumpkin patch! Kinda weird that it's right along the main road but it was perfect! So many pumpkins, actually in vines and stuff. The corn maze was actually pretty tricky and the animals were a cute touch. It wasn't a petting zoo though, just so ya know! I came here for the 2014 pumpkin patch and my opinion quickly deteriorated. My wife, daughter and I rode the tractor, petted the animals, ran the corn maze and picked a pumpkin. Then I realized they wanted $5, $10, $15, $20 OR MORE for pumpkins. Mine was $20. But they weren't grown here. As I walked away (being tall) I could see behind the fence of their 'production/work' area and saw those huge rounded boxes you see outside groceries stores full of pumpkins. Extras. They'd been shipped in. I was disappointed I paid $20 for an average size pumpkin from a mega farm. After telling my wife, she told me a childhood story about one of the owners telling her family off as they were leaving the pumpkin patch because they had brought their Bassett hounds with them as they had done for years without issue. Some really unprecedented unprofessional behavior. Then the final nail. A few days later I began carving a very elaborate garfield design for my daughter and I. The next day the pumpkin was not only moldy, but gooey and mushy. Too much to even handle it, let alone carve it. I paid $20 for a masquerading mega farm pumpkin that lasted a few days (a week before Halloween) and ruined our carving plans. Added to the rude behavior we'd already endured along with the fact they only grow certain items and ship in mega farm garbage for the rest without telling anyone, this place doesn't deserve your patronage. read more

Pure, Fresh, Healthy, 5 star produce. Lane farms is a rare find and a true value to the community. Locally grown produce for people who care about what they put in their bodies. My main squeeze and I love this little farm. They have real food here. For us supporing this little stand is a no-brainer. Not only is the produce picked fresh, without use of harmful chemicals, we've come to understand the Lanes are an original Santa Barbara family with history dating back to the mid 1800's. Prices seemed pretty fair. Good mix of prepared and fresh produce. They also sell salad dressings, nuts, candy. We got some strawberries and tangerines. The citrus was kinda hard to peel but super juicy and the strawberries were delicious. I seem to recall they have a mix of organic and conventional produce. We saw the TV news story that they use no chemicals on their strawberries, so we stopped and bought a basket after visiting UCSB. These are the best and sweetest strawberries that we have had in many years. There is no need to sprinkle sugar on them. They are more expensive than supermarket strawberries, but they are so fresh and sweet that they are well worth buying. read more

We bought a "fresh cut" Christmas tree from them just over two weeks ago. It is already totally dry and needed to be thrown out days ago, but it's Christmas. :( We can't turn on the lights. Nor can we use a heater in that room. Won't go there again! read more
