This is a small & cute event that spans a block of street. Most of the vendors sold fresh produce and plants/flowers. I also saw baked goods, olive products, and dried fruits & nuts. Some of the vendors were welcoming & friendly as we walked by, some offered samples.

While walking through the farmers market I was looking for tasty strawberries.  I saw 4 vendors with nice looking strawberries.  One vendor had strawberries with aroma that wafted into the walkway.  I followed the scent and asked where the strawberries were grown.  He said Santa Maria.  I love visiting Santa Maria for the delicious Santa Maria bbq so I was sold.  It was 3 baskets for $10 which was a good deal compared to what I've paid at San Diego Farmers Market vendors.  The strawberries filled the kitchen with strawberry aroma.  Strawberries were firm and bursting with sweet strawberry flavor.  Next time I'm in town I'll follow the scent to get more of these tasty berries. Maggie found a Marcie's Pies and purchased 3 pies for $30.  Pies are had a crunchy pastry crust and I liked the mild flavor.  Blackberry pie had an intensely sweet blackberry flavor.  I enjoyed my very small piece.  Peach pie had a very sweet peach flavor.  Apple pie was my favorite and had a very strong sweet apple flavor. Mandarin oranges from Buckhorn Canyon Ranchwere ripe, sweet, and juicy.  I loved the flavor which is a bit like Sumo Citrus Oranges. One vendor had a variety of peaches, plums, and other stone fruit.  I bought one of each of most of the options.  Each was ripe, juicy, and full of flavor.  Among the best stone fruit I've had. Solvang Farmer's Market is nice sized.  There is plentiful free parking nearby.  Not crowded but has enough customers to keep the market going.  A good number of produce vendors selling fruits and veggies.  I was very impressed by the quality of the strawberries, oranges, and stone fruit.  I look forward to visiting the market when I visit Solvang.

Very small farmers market that happens every Wednesday. Some of the produce looked really good. Nothing to go out of your way to visit though.

It's a small town so I was surprised they had a farmers market. I wasn't expecting much from it and didn't end up buying anything. But to get through that street and see other stores, you need to walk through the farmers market. There aren't any dogs allowed at the farmers market. They have a table with hand sanitizers. And the separate tables have signs to social distance. Overall it was okay walking through and checking it out but I didn't see anything that made me stop and buy anything.

Local SLO/Pismo Area Eval. : Solvang Farmers Market is pleasant part of a trek from the Arroyo Grande Weds. AM Farmers Market to the amazing back roads of Santa Maria via Foxen Canyon Rd. Vineyard route [as well as the scenic Tepusquet Canyon area], ultimately down to Solvang, Buellton, Los Olivos, & Santa Ynez via the 101, or Ballard Canyon Rd.. While hitting two different FM's in the same day may not appeal to most, it was fun, since each have their own respective merits and they have different vendors/farms, with different products & prices. In general AG has cheaper prices and more local & central valley vendors, while the Northern Santa Barbara Solvang has more farmers near Santa Barbara, or are local to greater Solvang/ Santa Ynez. I was quite astonished to see quite a few vendors with lots of produce. It was as large and varied as some of the larger FMs in the SLO county area, such as in Baywood or Templeton....but it was far smaller than SLO's Saturday Madonna Plaza "grand" FM with many dozens of vendors...and were area restaurants shop. While most fruits and veges here commanded a higher price than in many SLO county Farmers Markets, there were some real stand outs that I had not seen anywhere else...such as dark purple [almost black] carrots filled with anti-oxidants & even purple Broccolini [Roots Organic Farm~ Jacob Grant~ Farmer~ in Santa Ynez]. When we cooked either of them up with some Garlic & Butter, both were heavenly, and amazingly tasty. Jacob is an outstanding farmer & nice fellow. These rather unique veges were well worth it. Another nice Santa Ynez local farm vendor made homemade quality mini-pies, which was fun, since you could mix and match 3 for $22 [Marcie's Pies @ Jimenez Family Farm of Santa Ynez]. They offered either crumble or traditional crusts and both were amazing. We opted for the following: Strawberry/Rhubarb, Triberry, & Cherry/Berry Crumble. Marcie and her family was super friendly and quite wonderful. They happily explained all the hard work that went into crafting such delicious creations. Since the next day, we bought even smaller similar pies from Linn's Farm in the mountains above Cambria, we judged that both vendors created equally amazing pies. Between Marcie & Jacob's offerings alone, it was well worth the drive from Pismo Beach. Of course there was some vendors where the source could have been from Mexico, since it is off-season, so we avoided those. Amazingly, there are more & more local farms who make use of fabric greenhouses to cultivate fresh fruits and veges all year long. We did not appreciate the extent, till we recently visited the wonderful Mt. Olive Organic Farm, out in the hills near Paso Robles, where they have several huge greenhouses & are present in various Northern FM in SLO county, such as Baywood, SLO, Cambria, & Templeton. As for parking & restroom, the vendor street borders on the main city park, which has a decent bathroom, lots of parking spots, and even picnic tables for those who want to snack on some fresh items. It is quite easy to down a mini-pie, or fruit, nuts, cheese, or more. The food here is generally superior and fresher as compared to the local tourist oriented places, where off-season baked goods look both old and are too pricey. Much of Solvang is a tourist trap....so the best deals are either at this Farmers Market, or dinning in nearby Buellton [i.e. Industrial Eats or Peasoup Andersons].

WOW! I was surprised to read people knocking this particular farmers market due to it's small scale :/ it's PERFECTLY suited for locals and WE sincerely appreciate every single vendor that shows UP! Farming as WE all know is a TOUGH business and hardly a walk in the park to setup every Wednesday & tear down and continue this routine for months. What they OFFER is "GREAT QUALITY PRODUCE" & MORE and "WE" appreciate all their efforts!! My favorites: White nectarines (sweet & scrumptious), local sage honey (delicious, grab a lil honeycomb sampler for $1.00), crunchy grapes (1st booth, these grapes are the standout SUPER crunchy & tasty), Black Cat plums (also 1st booth, they are very generous with samples), NEBAL avocados (2nd booth, looking for a unique good tasting avocado try the NEBAL), sunflower & radish sprouts (packs heat) are amazing for sandwiches or salads, melons (always sweet & nice) lastly their lettuces are beautiful and moreover crisp & delicious! Their sunflowers are very cool I love their orchids as well! WE THE PEOPLE THAT SUPPORT YOU "EVERY" WEDNESDAY love you guys!!

We were on vacation in Solvang. The farmers market was great. They had fresh fruits and veggies, olives and oil, a bakery, flowers and other things. I really enjoyed the selection.

Driving through Solvang, I noticed no parking signs down the middle of Solvang Village. It was not until later that I realized that it was in preparation for the weekly Farmers Market, Wednesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Coming from Northern California, where the Farmers Markets offered a plethora of amazing fruits and vegetables, I was somewhat disappointed at the offerings. It's the end of the year and there were a ton of lovely carrots and beets and even some tomatoes. You'll also find local cheeses, hummus, nuts, flowers, plants and olive oil. What really impressed me were the colors of the vegetables, they were electric and made up for the lack of choices.

    Fresh and yummy

Such fresh and affordable seasonal produce available. It's convenient and cozy enough to experience all the vendors relatively quickly.

Local Take: A marvelous mid-week mid-day medium sized Farmers Market in the great Northern…read moreSB/"almost" South SLO area. As some of you who follow me well know, I am totally a fan of all things Farmers Markets or Farm Stands, so it is surprising that I took so long to check this one out. It's direct competitor is also on Weds., but is in the morning in Arroyo Grande at 8AM. As far as I can tell, this is mostly a local relatively unknown FM by SLO County Standards. It was definitely COVID safety aware, has good spacing between vendors & the open air helps alot. It was not too busy when we went the other week. In terms of relative costs here, they are fair for what you get, especially considering much is fresh picked that very morning. At least a few of the same Farmers do the AM one in AG, and then drive down to SM to do this one. A marvelous one, from the Central Valley grows quite a few Asian Veggies, which are hard to get, such as Sweet Potato leaves & more pedestrian Bok Choy & such. A newer vendor grows some nice mushrooms, but they are not the kind for "Microdosing". Even though it is close to X-mas, the selection of local Farm Fresh Veggies was impressive. For those who have not tried beautiful, rare, & yummy Yellow Squash Flowers, they were plenty at one stand. Squash Flowers are delicate & need to be made the same day. Sautés with butter & garlic. Some Italian restaurants ruin the delicate flavor by stuffing & deep frying them. There are some Mexican Food trucks & stands, crafts, flowers, Honey, Lavender, Swap Meet style goods, & a good selection from various Farmers. Everyone was in a good mood, vendors & customers were quite friendly, & it was a nice place to stock up on great eats. All this action takes place in the parking lot on the opposite side of the Central Large Mall in Santa Maria. While it happens in the parking lot, the parking lots next to it, have tons of room to spare, which are next to the Rite Aid in this older outdoor strip mall. This Rite Aid also does COVID & Flu shots...they have a walk in from 2-3PM. There are a few other shops & eateries here as well. You can take a trip up to the walkway & also check out the main Mall for other shopping needs. We use a trip to events such as this as an excess to shop at the largest Mexican Supermarkets in the area, which sadly has very little local products...but they do have some harder to find ethnic foods, like Taro. Demographically, most local Farm Workers really cannot afford even what they pick, let alone the "organic" price premium. The question is, is it worth the trip? Please check out my pics & see for yourself. Overall, the Veggies here are far fresher, healthier, & cheaper than Whole Paycheck market. If you happen to driving on the 101 for other reasons, this is a nice diversion, & a great way to load up on all kinds of goodies on a trek North or South. It is close to the corner of Broadway & Main St. Please support our local essential Farmers & other small buisness vendors.
