    Welcome
    Keith F.

This location is very clean and well maintained. The lady behind the counter was very friendly to every single person that came through the door. The person who was cleaning the bathroom was using soooooooooo much bleach that it made my eyes sting. I'm guessing those stalls needed it though...... A great place to walk the dog as well

This rest area is located along Interstate 85 southbound between Opelika to the north and…read moreMontgomery to the south. This is near mile marker 44.5. One thing to note is that due to the ongoing pandemic, there are signs on all the doors to buildings that masks are required to be worn while inside. My visit here was on July 28, 2021. When coming into this rest area, cars will go to the right while trucks will stay to the left. Like any rest area, the main reasons for stopping in were to use the restrooms, as well as get out and stretch the legs after being on the road for quite a while. Coming into the restroom building, it wasn't too busy in there, but most were not wearing masks despite the signs on the doors. I had mine on at least. The restrooms were clean and maintained. Everything was in working order and no supplies had run out during this visit. They do have an attendant on duty during the day for questions and such, but you will need to ask for them as they will be in the back until someone asks for some help. This is likely due to the pandemic. After finishing in the restroom and getting cleaned up, I came back outside and checked out the grounds of the location. There is a sign just outside the restroom building that has information about the forests of Alabama and the Tuskegee National Forest, which this rest area is located in. I looked at and read the info there and it was definitely an interesting read. From there, I did some additional walking around and saw a nice big tree with pink flowers blooming on them. I went over by the vending area, but I had no intention on getting anything at this point. Overall, this was a very nice rest area. Everything was working as intended and had some nice views of the trees and info about the forests. If your travels take you this way, be sure to make a stop here since rest areas will be far and few between.

They don't seem to have king sheets or mattress pads! We asked for some when we saw the strained set in our first room. We didn't want them to pop off and leave us sleeping on a public mattress. Gross! We were given a second set of queen-sized. So we asked to be moved to a double-queen room. A minor inconvenience. The breakfast is decent and the dining area is pleasant and uncrowded. There doesn't seem to be any heater keeping the food warm. Multiple times the eggs and sausages were cold = health hazard. Multiple times the food ran empty. I ate the grits but a friend from AZ said that they were old and watery. Coffee was cold outside of breakfast hours. The place was fairly clean but some of the towels did not smell good. There was some mildew in the shower. The pool looked gross to me but not others. There was no access to the outdoor seating area, and the chairs there were mildewed. Landscaping on-site was attractive. But around the hotel is the highway, an empty field, and a large fireworks store. There are NO restaurants nearby. The people at the front desk were accommodating but not especially friendly. 75% of the time, the front desk was empty. Check-in was slow. We had to ask for the Hilton Honors water and snack. The rooms are spacious and the shower water good, though slow to warm up. Our first room had a glass shower stall and few towels. The 5th floor room had a tub w shower curtain and ample towels. I don't know if that was intentional. Parking was good. We were told there is a laundry room on second floor but we did not use it.

Finding the breakfast area was interesting, but totally understandable as they work to complete construction. If I were to nitpick, I'd mention the totally-floppy sink faucet. Not sure if I liked the many ladybugs on my ceiling or not, but it certainly added personality, and some people think they're good luck.

The rates here are a little more expensive than at Highland Marina but you get what you pay for. The drive is also a little further, I think it's the first exit for AL if you are driving from Atlanta on 85 South. View the pics of the cabin. We only spent 4 hours in the cabin. But it was much nicer to me than Highland. More modern and spacious as well. I didn't like that I couldn't wake off the deck to the back yard. But the bigger cabins allow you to do so. The good thing was that every cabin allows you direct access to the lake. And yes, you can see the deer playing around first thing in the morning. Please note that the office closes early like 4 (call to ask) in the afternoon. The office is also a store, they have a few snacks, NO COFFEE bring your own if you need it in the morning. They do provide a coffee pot in the cabins. The store has bait, fishing essentials and the usual items (tooth paste, soap, foil) that is typically found in mom and pop type stores on the lake. There are upwards of 20 cabins ranging from 1 - 3 bedrooms. I loved #20. 3 bedrooms a deck that allowed you to walk from the kitchen to the lake. But I should warn you #20 is on the side of the beach area and the playground. So kids will be there all day playing and adults will be there on the beach area doing what grown ups do. Maybe #19 would be a better pick if you want peace and quiet. The first 5 cabins are adjacent to the Marinas office. No worries there because there's a big Lake separating the two. If I planned on having some friends join us, I would rent the first 5 cabins or get #20 and ask 2 other couples to come out. WHY? Because the cabins are not spaced far apart enough to feel comfortable having a party. Now I he gone to cabins that had only a 100 feet between the two, so this is NOT a complaint. But as a good neighbor, I think my family and friends could be a little too loud for the cabin next door. So I would try to at least get 1-3 or 3-5. But for a group of party people get #20. Trust me on this. And thank me later! Not only can you rent the cabins, but you can also rent a boat for about 8 hours or maybe even half a day. Please call and verify all of this. And keep in mind that you have to gas that B back up. So have you at least $50 to gas up your rental upon return. And you also can leave your boat here and pay for storing it here. We only caught 4 fish this time, but I still enjoyed night fishing and cruising on the beautiful waters of West Point Lake.
