I am so glad that Google directed me to Yelp listings for "Locksmiths North Hollywood, CA" & that this was the first listing!!! My mailbox key was cracking & I only had one copy, so I knew it was going to be tricky. Based on other reviews, I knew if anyone could help me it would be these guys! I went over there & he attempted to make a new key & then I ran home (they are conveniently close to my house) to test it, but no luck. But before I left he told me how to take the lock off so I could bring it in to work on it. I went back & they grinded down the poor little key until it worked. They were SO nice!!! And they didn't even charge me. The recommended next steps (replacing the lock) & quoted a price. These guys are great! Better than my handy dad! I have an old front door lock that had been sticking for nearly a year. My very handy dad had taken a look and decided we were going to have to replace it. These guys are great. I needed some locks changed at my warehouse same day and Andrea on the phone was great. Very friendly and even accommodated my request to be notified of any earlier openings in the day. They ended up showing up only 1-2 hours after I called to change numerous locks on site and our warehouse isn't exactly down the street; it's a few freeway stops north. The man who performed the work was extremely friendly as well (in a real way, not a fake customer service-y way) and did the work quickly and quietly. Great guys. Bring cash. If you're copying one key the minimum to use plastic there is $5.00. If you're like me and only copy one or two keys per visit then bring cash. Other than that, everyone is very nice there and very courteous. Do not bring "Do Not Duplicate" keys there without a letter from the owners of the building. They will not copy it. Luckily I lived two blocks over and just got the permission to do so. Parking is easy and seems to always be free right in front of the shop so get in, get out and get on with your life. I booked a Saturday appointment to change one deadbolt, a doorknob and make some extra keys. They were prompt and advised me in advance there is a $10 surcharge for Saturday appointments so I didn't have a surprise when I received the bill. The service call was $55 and the installation charges for each deadbolt / lock were $24. Reasonable and the whole appointment time was less than 30 minutes for them to install. First of all, don't get me wrong but I personally think that Locksmith Business is kinda shady to start with. I had my share of good and not-so-good experience in the past and I am usually very cautious with them. This is what I always expected from any Locksmith until I used this particular company: - Their ETA is anywhere from 30 mins to an hour if not more. - Customer service a thing of the past - They charge a low service fee to dispatch someone out. Then they will bump up their price and sneak in other weird charges once the technician gets to your location knowing you will pay for it anyways. So, we locked ourselves out of the office last Saturday morning in North Hollywood. Called this company and the lady on the phone was surprisingly nice and responsive. She quickly got all the information and gave me an ETA of 45 mins. I said ok whatever, thinking they will come in about an hour and left the location. After 15 minutes I got a call from my employee saying we need to pay for the Locksmith service. Wow, how impressive was that! Fast, professional and reasonably priced. We only paid $65 flat fee. I'm always a bit skeptical when I see a business with just a couple ratings and they are all really positive. I feel like maybe the business owners have gotten wise to yelp and are planting their own fantastic reviews. In this case, the few fantastic reviews were right on. So if the owners are planting these reviews, their co-workers are living up to the hype. I just moved into my new place and had the locks changed by another un-named lock company. I had a pretty good experience so I called them again to change 2 file cabinet locks and 1 desk lock. I knew you could buy new locks for these but I didnt want the pain of disassembling and then re-installing new ones. This company was going to charge me $50 just to walk in the door and then $20 per lock to mold new keys from the locks (total of $110 plus tax). I asked, "hey cant you just look up the numeric code on the lock face and get the key from the manufacturer?" Response... we dont do that, you have to call the manufacturer yourself. What?!?!?! I'm no locksmith but this was not the type of service or response I expected. So I yelped it to find a new locksmith and found Lankershim lock & key. When I got to the store and explained my problem. They asked for the numeric codes on the locks and told me it would be 30 minutes cause they had to check each manufacture to find the right key. The employee then noticed my daughter in the car carrier and we had a 10 minute conversation about daughters. His is 20 years old and he was reflecting on his past 20 years of being a father of a daughter. He gave me some fatherly advice and told me a park we could walk around in for 30 minutes. When I returned 30 minutes later, the keys were ready, and he didn't want me to get out of the car with my sleeping daughter. He gave me the keys through my window and took my credit card. Curb Side Service... Unbelievable!!! We finished our business and then he recommended a great spot for me to grab some lunch on my way home. Truly 5 star service!!! And the price was $50 compared to the $110 the other place was going to charge me. Great experience. read more

I lost my key to the padlock on my front gate; called this joint (Lankershim Lock and Key) nearby to have it merely CUT OFF, period. An old lock and destined to be pitched, anyway. The store is relatively close to my home. I was quoted $35.00 to simply cut the padlock off the gate and tossed. as I said, which was fine with me. I waited the better part of an hour and a man showed up and something just didn't "smell" right. Before he laid bolt cutter to lock, I asked his price (just checking) Thank goodness I did as I just smelled a rat, and he said $135.00! He gave me some song and dance about current prices and some "reference" and I put a stop to that. "Get out" was my response. A pause and "what WOULD you pay?" " $35.00 00" I replied, "as quoted" Would y'all believe, he said, "Would you go $50.00?". By then I was ready to "call the gendarmes" but being about to blow my top and having some respect for my blood pressure and hating myself for giving in, BUT fearing retribution, I replied, "OK". And did pay that $50.00 but I'm telling you all, I wasn't at all happy. However, but being a senior, I've learned my blood pressure is more valuable than $15.00 and at least I got the lock off. I accidently ruined a deadbolt lock and went here to see if there was anything they could do.
