Avoid this place if you love your pets. I went to get my cat vaccinated and a woman took her to where they keep the dogs for cleaning. I had a feeling and followed her. It didn't even take 2 minutes. She came out nervously and said my cat had small animals. I asked her to show me and she brought a comb soaked in shampoo. I asked her how come my cat is dry all this in less than 2 minutes. I took my newly adopted shelter dog here for a first exam. The vet is Dr. Nava and she and her team were very professional and friendly. Because of extreme stress/anxiety, the shelter had been giving the dog 3 tranquilizing meds which made her lethargic. Dr. Nava advised me on weaning the dog off the meds and the dog is very well with no problems. I brought the dog back later for a vaccine booster shot and the staff tech who administered it was very efficient. The charges are fair; Dr. Nava also provided 1 free heartworm and flea/tick dose also for me to administer at home. I intend to make this my regular animal hospital. read more

After my conversation this morning with the individual answering the phone I can see why some of the reviews are less than stellar. I understand the staff is part time and probably not vested in the organization but if the job means anything to them at all they should realize they won't have one if customers keep leaving. Do not go to this animal hospital. I took my dog a few years ago to have a growth removed from his leg. Dr Ritter did the surgery. After the surgery I brought my dog home and he was having a hard time breathing. I rushed him back and Dr Ritter attempted to regulate his breathing. He then inserted a tube down his throat and told me that he would have to stay over night. When I asked him if someone was going to stay with him he said no. After learning my dog would be alone with a tube down his throat he then said I could take him home like that. I was totally in shock but did not want to leave my dog alone. After bringing him home he started pooping and bleeding. The Dr told me to take him back during the day so he can keep a eye on him. On my way to pick up my dog he called to tell me my dog passed away. After speaking to other vets about this. I was told my dog should of been referred to a 24 hour vet so he can be monitored all night. I put my trust in this vet and my dog, my best friend died. I get a text from one of the vet assistants who felt incredibly bad about the whole thing saying "I feel we failed you". So next time u see this Dr. Maybe u want to ask about how handled Apollos care before you let him care for your fur baby. I still think of this everyday. This review is for a service that was provided five years ago. However, while talking to a friend about Veterinarians I was reminded of how I would never recommend the Lansing Animal Hospital to anyone. My cat is prone to bladder stones. He had struvite and urate stones. He previously had surgery done twice by the time he was four from my Vet while living in Wisconsin. I moved to Lansing and when he began straining to pee I took him to the Lansing Animal Hospital. The x-rays confirmed the stones had returned. The Vet told me they could do nothing for him and I should just put him down because the stones would keep coming back. I was not ok with this answer. I remember the Vet appearing to look shocked when I told him that was not an option at this point and I would be going elsewhere. Oh yes, they also charged me a lot of money to take x-rays and then tell me I should put my cat down. I called my Vet in Wisconsin and asked her if she could refer me to a Vet in the Chicago area. She referred me to a Vet in Chicago. Upon taking my kitty there, I was told something very different than Lansing Animal Hospital. I was told they could not keep doing surgery on him; however, we can try to change his diet and that might help. I was told no guarantees, but at least we can try a diet change. So, away I went with prescription food and IVs to inject him with for two weeks in the hopes the excess water and new diet would allow him to pass the stones on his own. GUESS WHAT, he passed the stones on his own and with his diet change has not had a problem in five years. So moral of the story, a diet change made my cat healthy and Lansing Animal Hospital told me there was nothing they could do and I should put him down. read more

With that said there's been plenty of time to get a flow. My first visit was less than stellar as the office had no record I was coming, This is not my regular office for my dogs rather a completely new one. The only reason I was visiting this location was for Dr. Nava whom was being "borrowed" from my regular office. I followed protocol by calling and despite someone's mistake of me not being on the appointment list I was going to be able to see Dr. Nava. After waiting over 30 minutes there was no communication via phone or in person to my vehicle I just angrily left. After speaking with Dr. Nava I was able to secure a for sure appointment with her another day in the week. All went much more smoothly because of her. Clean facility, friendly sensitive staff that cares for every pet that comes through their door. Our little dog was having pain & trouble walking, we went to here after a referral from our old Vet. We went for the initial visit, then a few days later the nurse called to follow up, I told her we were all having issues & before end of day the Doctor called me back with help & recommendations. 2nd visit, they reassessed, took Xrays (exam & Xray only $175 for our 15# dog). This used to be a wonderful place to take your pet for quality veterinary care. Our dog needed surgery, and the place would not give us a payment plan and was very rude to us throughout the entire process. When we asked for a second opinion to make sure the surgery was necessary, they wanted to charge us for that too even though our pet showed signs of improvement leading us to believe that the surgery might not be necessary. When I asked the receptionist, she advised that the place was recently sold to a new holding company and that they have new policies and procedures. She was very "matter of fact" and sounded cold and calculating over the phone. We are taking our pet for a second opinion. I am openly wondering if the change in management had to do with the fact that we were told our pet needed surgery. I would not take my pet here as it is clear that the new owners do not have any empathy for pet owners and seem infinitely more profit driven than years past. Update: 12/7/2011. We went to another vet who treated our pet without surgery for a fraction of the cost. This is the only place he knows and they are his groomer also (Sara) who grooms him is wonderful, she takes the best care of my crazy 3 year old rottie. I LOVE this place!! I took my beloved cat, Luther, here on many occasions, and they treated him SO well. They were even able to extend his life with IV infusions so he would not get dehydrated. I knew it was time to put him to sleep when he had a seizure, and they made the process a little better. They let me stay in the room with him afterwards as LONG as I needed to. I think I might have stayed an hour, and no one came to bug me, no one asked "how much longer?" They let me sit and compose myself with him for as long as it took. I received a sympathy card in the mail not long after, with a handwritten message from the staff, which truly warmed my heart. 6 years later, I have finally been able to bring myself to getting another cat, and Rocket has been going to Lansing Animal. Although there are several places much closer, I choose the little 20 minute drive to Lansing, because I know they will take care of him, and because of the kindness the staff showed me during Luther's passing. I was so happy when we purchased a new dog for our 13 year olds birthday at 8 weeks, now she's 2 years old (Shih Tzu). Never been a dog owner, had no clue how to take care of her so we had a lot of questions. The Doctors were helpful and took time to answer any questions or concerns. We took her to Lansing Animal Hospital to get her checked and paid for a yearly insurance plan that covered shots and visits. In addition we used them as her groomer as well. Big mistake on the grooming part which is why I only gave 2 stars. "Desi" the groomer does not have good customer service skills. Blamed us bcuz she was feisty when getting groomed and I guess was trying to bite her. I explained to her that's not the way she is at home and wasn't sure why she was acting that way. I asked her to let me know what I needed to do to change that behavior so it wouldn't happen again. Instead I was charged extra. I paid it anyway bcuz I wanted what's best for our dog. Moving forward. I was late for an appt. which I understand she had to reschedule. But now I have to pay $20 deposit. This last time I thought I was told 9:30. She called at 9:24 and said it was at 9:00. Honest mistake. Told her I was walking out the door anyway to be there at 9:30a. The place is literally 2 min drive. She said I had to reschedule. I begged and pleaded, she had no empathy. Saying no is ok, I understand it's a business. But the coldness and nasty attitude was so disrespectful. My dog won't be going back there for grooming. Once my insurance is up I'm leaving and going somewhere that has better customer service and makes better decisions in helping new pet owners on there journey. I really like this vet better than Banfield located in the Petsmart stores. I took my puppies to Petsmart and paid over $300 each for shots and to be neutered. I didn't want to pay the renewal price of $269 (for one). I took my dogs to the Lansing Hospital. First of all the vet has been praticing since 1963. He was a vet in the army and all of his documents are posted on the wall. Second I kept all my dogs records and the vet went over them with me. They were giving my dogs deer shots (along with other shots) at the Petsmart. The vet explained to me that he gives deer shots to hunting dogs. (I have 2 Min Pins) All together I paid $160 for both dogs to get their shots and for 6 months of heart pills.(each dog has 6 months worth of pills) They told me that was all they needed for the year and they got their tags and everything. I will never take my dogs back to Banfield. They are way too expensive. read more

Terrible, absolute worst vet experience ever! As I was merging on 80/94 I happened to see a small, black kitten that appeared to have been cruelly tossed out of a car. I pulled over and ran to grab it, only to discover that the poor thing's leg broken and she was in shock and severe pain. As soon as I picked her up I knew that I needed to get her to a vet ASAP to be humanely put out of her misery ASAP. Quickly googled the closest vet and ended up at Lansing Animal Hospital. You know the saying, "No good deed goes unpunished?" I took the clearly suffering kitten in to the vet, told them she needs to be put down. They take her away and ask if I want to be there, I couldn't do it, so they said they would take care of it for me. I then go to the front desk, covered in blood and feces, with my sister and four kids waiting in the car, ONLY TO BE TOLD that I owe $130. Yes, ONE HUNDRED and THIRTY DOLLARS for a kitten no more than a pound! I said no, I've put down an 80lb dog for less than that! Are you going to punish me for helping? She said that was their fee and couldn't do it. I said I couldn't pay that price. $30-40 yes. $130? Absolutely not! She said that she needed to talk to the vet, 45 MINUTES LATER I finally threatened to leave. Then the most disgusting part of all, the nurse comes out and tells me that the kitten just died... ON ITS OWN. They let that kitten suffer to its death for a whole hour because I would not pay their extortion of a price. There are people who cause suffering, and their are people who allow suffering to happen. How, as a vet, called to save animals, could they be so cruel!! And the cherry on top was they told me that the vet would waive the disposal fee. Gee thanks. Having no prior experience with this vet, my first and lasting impression of this "vet" is that the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR is their #1 priority. I have to concur with Nikki L's review regarding the groomer Desi. She lacks customer service skills and overall I am very disappointment with how the overall grooming experience has sunken over the years. When we would initially come for grooming, the groomer was Sara. She was very personable and groomed one dog at a time. Our 95lb baby would be done in (3) hours. In the two most recent visit, we arrive at (3) only to be told either they haven't yet started him, are just starting him and or just starting drying him and we should return in (2) more hours. At least call the pet parent and set an appropriate expectation. However, to wait until we arrive and say it will be (2) more hours, unapologetically, is rude and unacceptable. It is also very disappointing because the service was once stellar. We didn't mind spending the $50-$60 more money here for the same services here that we paid less for at Petco or PetSmart because were led to believe our pet was receiving individualized grooming attention; meaning they do only one dog at a time. I especially thought this because once I we missed an appointment and Sara warned me that next time we would have to pay a deposit because that time was reserved for our pet. However, today my husband arrived at 4, after dropping him off at 1 pm and he was told he wouldn't be ready until 6pm; my husband had to miss an appointment because this. When I called and spoke with Jessica, the manager, I learned they are now booking (2) dog at a time. When I asked, how do they decide which dog to work on first, she could not answer. When I asked the manager what was my dog doing today from 1 pm - 3 pm (since he was not being dried until 4pm) she could not answer. We happily pay more because we had been receiving a premium service. When we arrived, the previous groomer would greet us and our pet and was interested and concerned what services we wanted. She would event provide consultation. Per my husband, when he arrived Desi did not smile and barely wanted to stop her personal conversation with a male in order to discuss our pet's grooming needs. When we would be pick up Malcolm; Sara would give us a de-brief of how he did and any observations, tips, etc. Desi does not. She also offered no explanation or apology why a grooming that used to take (3) hours takes her (5) or more. We had to speak to a manager and the poor excuses we were given are: - She was doing a favor to schedule him because she was booked out two weeks ; well my husband made the appointment (2) weeks ago but the manager was not aware of that. Moreover, it would be best to be upfront with Pet owners if you cannot fit their pet in your scherdule. - All of the animals she groomed today were getting groomed for the first time and so they took extra time and she fell behind schedule; again, our pet's appointment was 1 pm. Surely she would have known then if she couldn't get to him until (4) pm. We live right around the corner. Had she been upfront with us my husband could have adjusted his schedule and not missed an appointment. Moreover, we could have taken him back home and brought him back instead of him waiting in a cage for (3) hours until she was done getting the smaller dogs out the way (yep, that's what we believe happened) - I was told that 9 am or 11 am is the better time to schedule a large dog; I am so glad she admitted this because we suspected she worked on all the smaller dogs first and saved our dog for the end of the day; with no respect for our time, or consideration or regard that we scheduled his appointment (2) weeks ago. Also, what the manager did not realize when she made this statement is that his last grooming appointment with Desi was at 11 am and when my husband arrived at 3 pm she had not started him yet. This is a systemic issue they need to address whether she/they are equipped or even want to groom larger dogs. Otherwise, the practice that Desi implements is unfair and this clinic will continue to lose faithful pet owner clients of larger breeds. Finally, the manager also stated some pets are difficult to deal with; however we have only received good reports from past groomers (including Lansing Animal Clinic) moreover, Desi provided no such report. Finally, they didn't even have his rabies tag available after his $ 238 shots and exam. We were just told that it would be mailed but no information on when. I have referred other pet owners here; I can no longer make this referral in good conscience. read more

Please beware, cautious and avoid bringing your beloved family pet to this vet. They are all about the money and getting rich quick and could careless about your pet and show no compassion. We recently brought two 5 month old Abyssinian kittens that were brother and sister Into this vet for their vaccinations, spay and neuter. They had a plan for $394 each which was not cheap but not the most expensive out there. We primarily chose this vet because it was close to our home. I had a good impression when I left the kittens there but then our worst nightmare happened. They called to tell us that the little girl kitten had died after surgery. They did not have any answers besides she stopped breathing. We asked for them to do an autopsy to find out why a perfectly healthy 5 month old kitten would just stop breathing. Of course they come back with nothing besides the insurance textbook answer of she must of had an allergic reaction to the anesthetics that they use or she had something wrong with her brain. Two things that are impossible to test for and know a definite answer. I read further and it's extremely rare that something like this would happen and the truth would be that they overdosed the poor kitten with to much anesthesia. They gave us a time to come and pick up our alive kitten and upon picking him up the woman at the front desk showed no compassion at all and her first words were if we wanted to cremate or burry her. She then went on to provide us with another bill for the kitten to be cremated $51. We finally were able to get our alive kitten and the nurse just brings him out with his medicine and acts like everything is fine. She had no answers for our dead kitten she did not give us any advice for her grieving brother who still walks around the home looking for her. They handled the entire situation very poorly and their number one goal was collecting their money. We wanted to speak with the Doctor that performed the surgery but she was "out to lunch" or so they told us. We then wanted to dispute their charges of $394 because I feel that we should not be liable to pay for a surgery that was not successful when you murder our kitten. They still have yet to remove the charges from our credit card. No one there has any answers for anything and they are only concerned with getting more money. I would definitely not recommend this vet to anyone and if you do bring your pet there for any surgery please tell them to test to make sure your animal is not "allergic" to any anesthesia that they use. My husband brought in a cat named Old School, for a simple feline AIDS test and repeatedly asked for just that test because he needed to ensure the cat was healthy before integrating it into a home. The test he requested soon needed a number of other items added, including a high dose of flea medication (REVOLUTION). Old School weighed three pounds when weighed at your facility, and yet, she was prescribed medication for a cat weighing between 5-15 pounds. My husband was not advised that the cat was under the required weight (because he definitely would not have wanted the medication, since he did even want it in the first place). Upon returning home, the once active and happily eating cat changed to slowly grow lethargic. Upon a search on the internet, we discovered that the brand of medication she was given is known for causing death in cats (once again, a fact that was not disclosed during the examination). At that point, it was too late. After spending all night trying to check on her and giving her water via an eye dropper, my husband woke at 1 am, to find Old School had passed, about 12 hours from leaving your facility. I am livid that my husband is crying and burying this cat that was in good health before the medication. He is blaming her death on himself, because he brought her to your facility. An Animal Hospital is supposed to act as an advocate for not only owners but also pets. Even if the tiniest fine print is written somewhere on the packaging, your doctor should verbally be explaining any risk of medication or a lower weight class scenario. Pet owners often walk into animal hospitals with high emotions- fears that their pet is sick, grief or worry. Your doctor or a vet tech should have NEVER prescribed that flea medication for a cat that was two pounds below the required weight and should have also thoroughly explained any potential issues any medication, procedures, or tests done, so that the owner can make an educated decision. A caring doctor would have requested a follow-up when the cat gained weight or made sure only to prescribe medication that was for kittens and young cats due to Old School's size. Just because your facility might have a 'preferred brand', does not mean that it is acceptable for all pets. Each patient is different and their unique situation should be considered before carelessly prescribing medication. I am not upset that $180 was spent on procedures or tests; I am furious that a life was lost because the medication that was prescribed should never have been prescribed. That is my issue and I need to ensure that this never happens to another pet owner. read more

I have been taking my animals to this place for well over a decade, and have never had any issues with any of my dozen of animals over my time going there! Even though the doctors I started with have retired, I have always been happy with their services regardless of what doctor I saw. Dr. Thatcher is the newest doctor I have met there, and has been nothing but caring, down to earth, honest, and amazing. I am one of those people who worry too much about my animals, and probably over treat them because I want to ensure I never neglect any issue that arises.... she gets my craziness and concern, and is so great with my furbabes. In fact, all the staff are great! The front desk receptionist Jessica, Manager Kim, and Vet tech Andrea are just a few who have always treated me and my animals so well. They know my name as soon as I walk-in. Dr. Ritter and Medhurtst are also great!!. I have never felt over- charged or under-served. I wish I would have read the reviews before taking my puppy here. They sure do not consult you before taking action (MONEY) into their own hands. They are rude when you question their decisions. My dog went in for a hair cut and came out with a huge gash on her head. The bill was astronomical. Go somewhere else! Save your pup from mutilation. read more

I normally don't write reviews, but my parents bring their 8 year old dog here & I have been bringing my dog since he was 8 weeks old. He's now 8 months and has been coming every 6 weeks or so as part of the puppy plan; and each time, the staff has been so good with him. He's a very happy dog in general, but he can be stubborn when he's uncomfortable. That's never been the case here. I dropped him off to get neutered a few weeks ago, & when I picked him up, it was like nothing ever happened. He was still extremely happy and in very good shape. I also know that whenever I have a question about his health, I can call and get advice from the very helpful staff. I have done this numerous times. I recently moved from the area, but will definitely continue bringing Apollo here. read more

The rating for Lansing would depend on who you get to see your pet. I always call ahead and ask when Dr. Booher/Dr. Reeves are working. There is a new gentleman that works there who is extremely nice as well. However, the women vets are extremely rude and aren't very nice or polite. The men are very straight forward and honest, which some people don't really appreciate but when it comes to my pet I want the facts even if it is going to hurt my feelings. The gentlemen are always stating the facts and not trying to sell, sell, sell like the women are. So if you go, request one of the male doctors and you will get 5 star service, otherwise you're probably not going to like them very much. read more

Just writing an update,after writing my review I got a harassing phone call from a man who called himself Greg,he was calling because Dr Amy Thatcher said my message to her and review hurt her feelings ,well leaving our dog sick through the weekend hurt us also.Greg was very rude would not give his full name and said he was the manager of the clinic.I told him Lansing Animal has changed and he said everything has to change .I do not think it is owned by the same people,because it was a wonderful place at one time.I asked him if he was a vet he said no ,he said he could be an owner but refused to give info on himself,he then said a vet was the owner.I recommended many people here through the years but now I feel it is time to warn people about Lansing Animal Hospital,it is run differently and you could only imagine if something happened to your pet here how you would be treated.In closing he said I couldn't go back to the hospital and I can't imagine reputable Drs. like Dr. Ritter and Dr Booher working for a place like this.One final note is that he was so unprofessional that all he said was "Did your dog die" instead of trying to professionally handle the situation. I am just warning people the Lansing Animal Hospital that I knew for twenty years and that many of you knew is no longer beware and if you continue to go make sure you go to Dr Booher or Dr. Ritter. read more

we love this place..all 3 of my dogs go here..we recently had to deal with our 13 yr old pup being very sick..they called us back always made room for her...she ended up having cancer..we were devistated..we had to put her to sleep and this facility was kind compassionate and very caring..the vets and techs were wonderful...they helped us so much with our loss......i take all my animals here because they really do care!!i want to thank them for the wonderful care they gave our sweet serena...she was such a sweet soul and she passed as she lived with much dignity and love...thank you for being so kind to us...you have a wonderful staff!....sincerely pat partida read more

I started taking my dog Aj to Lansing Animal Hospital because he needed a new vet and they were recommended to me by someone. Everything was going well until Aj became violently ill, I took him to lansing they told me they were too busy to do an x - ray but I could bring him in one day the following week, Aj was vomiting and could not poop, I took him to the emergency vet in Indiana, an x-ray was done and a mass was found in his belly, I took all the information to the vet at lansing, the emergency vet recommended an ultrasound, the vet at lansing told me to get the ultrasound done and we would talk about my options, which I did, I returned to Lansing with ALL the test results, which was cancer, and ask that the vet contact me, I have never heard from this vet or any vet at lansing animal hospital, I waited a couple of days, knowing this tumor was getting bigger by the day, I found a wonderful vet named Dr. Campbell at Glenstead Animal Hospital in Glenwood Illinois, he coordinated my visits with the oncologist, Aj received radiation, it was too late for surgery, Aj is terminal but, the radiation shrank the tumor and it bought us some more time to spend together, the vets at Lansing Animal Hospital let me and my dog down at a time when we needed them the most, granted, a phone call from them would not have changed Aj's diagnosis but it would have let me know as a vet they care about my dog as much as I do. They are thoughtless and unkind, I had a balance of 30.00 on my account, for that I got a phone call, but for something as important as an abdominal mass with mets to his lymph nodes no call, no concern, just did not care, shame on all of you for your insensitivity and all the lies that were told to me by the staff saying " the doctor has his chart, he will be calling you soon" the call never came. Aj is still alive and doing as well as can be expected, and again thank god for Dr. Campbell, I don't know where Aj and I would be now if not for him. Stay as far away from Lansing Animal Hospital as you can. read more
