Hubby, daughter and I walked here from our hotel which was so far away. Lol! It was well worth hurting my legs for. As we entered, there was a long line but it went quickly. We got a waffle cone with several different flavors. I tasted coconut, turtle chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate and kawaui flavor. All the ice cream flavors were on point and delicious! There was a table in the back and a long bench. There were benches outside as well to enjoy your ice cream. The guy serving us was nice and was a local by the way he talked. Perfectly located across from our hotel at Hilton Waikiki Village, Lappert's is the place to go to. There was a bit of a line, but we didn't mind. It moved fairly quickly. My husband and I ordered a Brownie Pa'ina. In the restaurant, this item could not be seen on the menu due to their decorations covering parts of the menu, but luckily we looked at the menu ahead of time. We got to pick two flavors for our ice cream. I chose Oreo (which was chocolate ice cream with Oreo pieces) and vanilla bean ice cream. Everything was perfectly layered, brownie pieces, hot fudge, ice cream.. and then all again but with whipped cream on the top. A long time favorite that reminds me of Kauai. Though it's in Waikiki, once in a while I like to venture out of the norm to grab their ice cream. This location is in the Hilton Hawaiian Village by the parking lot. Tip: if you don't mind walking a little, park in the lagoon parking and walked right over. It's a nice walk with Diamond Head in the background. Their selection has your traditional favorites, local favorites such as their Kauai mud pie, and of course dairy free options (always a plus in my book). I was shocked that they have so much dairy free options. Usually ice cream shops only have one or two options. Hands down my favorite is their kauai mud pie, what they're known for. My husband always enjoys their mango sorbet. Hands down, best waffle cones ever. Yes you pay a little extra however it's fresh and the portion of ice cream they put in is huge! Def worth it at the price point you're paying for. If you're not into a cone, they always have waffle bowls. Portions are much bigger if you're ordering it with a cone versus cup. We get our morning coffee here during our 7 day stay in the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We came not because of convience but the quality of the coffee. It was smooth and flavorful. No need to add sugar because it is not bitter at all. One cup is enough to wake one up and ready for the day. In the afternoon or evening, we go for its ice cream. The smell of freshly made waffle cone draws people in. Lines can be long sometimes but it moves fast. I love it that they use dark chocolate for most of the chocolaty ice cream. We had a difficult time deciding so we got the "can't decide" - 1/2 scope of 5 different flavors in a waffle bowl. The scopes were big enough in my opinion. Best find of the whole trip. Went here on a whim, but I ended up getting 5 scoops of ice cream. My friend did the same as well. The "Can't decide" option is a waffle bowl with 5 scoops of any flavors for only $10.29 which is only slightly higher than if you got a regular two scoop option. This ended up being our dinner, and we have no regrets! Local flavors such as ube, coconut, pineapple, mango, and guava ice creams and sorbets are the highlight, but they also have more traditional flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and a moose tracks type of ice cream. My favorite flavor was either the coconut, the pineapple cake one or strawberry guava. So many great options, and I didn't dislike and of the flavors. Service was fast despite the line being out the door. There are a couple tables on the left as soon as you walk in, but for the most part people eat outside. Ice cream shops are rarely rated poorly as they are a happy place for us. And this review is no exception as this place is my happy place. I first had Lappert's 30 years ago when they first opened in Waikiki. I was obsessed with chocolate chip cookies and ice cream and Lappert's did the unthinkable and made an ice cream with cooked cookie pieces rather than the more commonly available cookie dough. And the obsession has continued until now. Lappert's strength is their local ingredients like hayden mangos and bananas, and homemade add ins, caramel, macadamia nut shortbread, brownies. They were the original B&J's to me at the time as we did not have them then but not as sweet so even better. My hubby loves the Kona Lava Java Sorbet. The icy deep dark chocolate is a perfect counterpart to creamy coffee. If you are a true dark chocolate aficionado, you will appreciate this combo. With the Cookie Dough, this is his favorite double scoop. Unfortunately the Cookie Dough is so popular, half the time it's not available so the Classic Vanilla is second choice. I find the Vanilla bland on it's own, the vanilla flavor mild but a good counterpart to the coffee chocolate mix. Lappert's mix's tend to be very complex so it is better to get one not so complex flavor (2-flavors) to go with anything more complex (3-flavors) to make it not so overwhelming on the tastebuds. My favorite is the White Chocolate Mac Nut which has super soft fudgy pieces of toasted Mac nut which compliment the creaminess of the ice cream. The salt is a definitely noticeable and nice counter play that keeps the flavor from descending into boredom. Also I appreciate the texture of these white chocolate chunks are not so chunky to be jarring as can be the case with some chocolate chip ice creams. Nothing spoils the decadent dreaminess than a jarring bite of a hard chocolate chip. Then I go on to the Big Island Inspiration, home made brownies and super soft Mac nut shortbread, it's like a hug in a ice cream scoop. We always get a waffle cone, it brings back more childhood memories but sometimes I get the bowl if it is more lighter colored as they are better to me not so burned. I am also giving a shout out for the Banana Fudge as the local bananas used are some of the best I've ever had and are hard to find probably because they all go into this ice cream. They taste like what I expect a banana at the grocery store should taste like but always disappoint. I think they are technically an heirloom banana but we do not have the official organic or heirloom designations here. So everything just gets labeled local which tastes better than most of the organic I had while living in So Cal before. The flavor of the Hayden Sorbet is also good but too sweet for our palate as a good local mango is so sweet, it really does not need extra. Because of these unique ingredients, it does tend to be pricey but well worth it when you find your hug in a scoop. read more

We eventually ordered, chai latte, expresso, and the kids wanted to try the chocolate chip cookies. We received the chai latte and expresso, then waited and waited but no cookie. I finally went back to the counter after 10 minutes and asked for the cookie. The shop got busy so most likely they forgot about the cookie. Nonetheless, we drank the latte and expresso, both were good. My husband liked his expresso, he said it was better than Starbucks. I enjoyed my latte but I will stick with Starbucks.
