We visited La Prades for my husbands birthday renting a boat for 1/2 day. The last thing I would have thought I would in the world we live in now is the cleanliness of the boat. I was so embarrassed. The boat looked like they pulled it out of storage that had been sitting for months. We've owned several boats and this condition does not happen overnight nor in a week or month and to think people are renting these boats in these conditions. Pics attached. I need to say that regarding the two 1 star reviews, the busiest 10 days of the year BY FAR are those around the 4th of July. With respect to there being a fun run, it was pretty much plastered everywhere. On the website, and its a tradition... I don't live there, but even I knew about it. I have rented from LaPrade's a few times now, but I really have to tell you about this June 30th. Lake Burton, ostensibly the most beautiful lake in GA hosts a spectacular fireworks show. I had last minute availability and called LaPrades. The young lady on the phone was well aware of their rental fleet, and told me she thought they might have a cancellation on a 23' pontoon. She called me back shortly and I booked it. Furthermore, because I wanted to see the fireworks, for a nominal charge, they let me keep the boat until after the fireworks, and allowed me to come in the next day to return, check in and gas up. I could NOT have been happier with the service. I would give 5 stars, however, on Sunday morning, it took a long time to check in the boat. I don't know if they'd been partying the night before, or just sleepy. I could have used a cup myself. I just chilled out and let them do their thing, and after 40 minutes I was done. So, all in all it was a fantastic boat, great service, above and beyond. Lest I forget, they also referred me to a local cabin rental who ALSO had a last minute cancellation... SCORE!!! Laughable actually hilarious. The waitress fantastic really enjoyed everything up to the entree. I got a prime rib cut and the food was the grossest thing I've ever seen. Literally a yellow steak. Never been so disgusted in my entire life at a restaurant. We complained and the manager told us that we were wrong. Actually in shock as I'm the one who ate the food. If I could give 0 stars I would unbelievably disappointed. The steak looked like it came out of a bag and was boiled never will come here again and will be sure to make sure no one comes here again. And after the complaining and talking with manager I was charged in full. Disappointed to say the least. read more

Excellent Service - packed day - Memorial Day wknd, with the Wooden Boat parade. Haven't been there in a few years,,, loved the Tiki Bar, and the other outside provisions for food, ice cream. Had hoped and was expecting for the dinner to be a bit more causal as we had just come off the boat, but the food was wonderful nonetheless. Great - clean boat,, we didn't find an anchor, that would have been nice when we just wanted to chill for a bit. Our guests loved it,,, we will be back !! Keep up the great work.... read more

We had a wonderful experience with Laprade's. Our pontoon rental was in excellent condition. It looked as if it was a new boat. Everything worked on our pontoon, check in was quick and so was checkout. We had such a great time that we booked for another weekend so we can bring our out of town guest to enjoy the lake with us. read more

Had an awesome dinner tonight at Laprades, way exceeded my expectations, the view is awesome, but I have a place on the lake so I didn't come for the View, my waitress was Kimberly, she was so polite and courteous, I had the grilled Mahi Mahi, with a side of sautéed mushrooms, and salad, it was wonderful! I eat all over the world, and started the day in Switzerland, it was so nice to come home and have a world class meal. There's no place on earth like lake Burton, and for me tonight, Laprades was Awesome read more

3rd owners are no better than the last ones, poor beer selection, dock help with attitude, go to anchorage for a consistent experience

We had both lunch and dinner here today. I ordered a salad for lunch with ahi tuna, which wasn't actually on the menu combined that way it was excellent. They charged me for both the salad and the appetizer but I was fine with that. Well seasoned ahi seared just right. Good quality but not quite so good it was "buttery awesome " tuna. Then we returned with friends for dinner. The daily special was crab stuffed lobster tail. It was good food but not great. It was an ordinary small tail with a small scoop of crab salad on top. It sounded much better than the reality. The portion size was disappointing too. My wife said her scallops were good and thought the sauce was outstanding. However they had a little sand which was undesirable. Again, the portion was too small. The location and outdoor setting was fabulous. Log construction is impressive. Server was very polite and effective. Overall a pleasant experience at a beautiful marina. Not a price performer. read more

This year makes our third for our family reunion on Lake Burton. Each year, we've rented a boat from La Prades with great service and equipment. I've never been inspired to write a review before today, though. We picked up our boat yesterday and had some water coming up from the bottom, so we took it back in today, They were swamped; I've never seen it so crowded. Turns out, they didn't have another boat to swap due to the crowd, so they quickly purchased a beautiful newer, larger boat so that we'd have one to use! We're having another amazing week on the lake, thanks to Tina and her excellent staff. read more

We recently rented a pontoon boat for our week vacation on Lake Burton. The service was barely adequate and I would never use them again. . While we were waiting to check our boat back in, none of the 6 people working on the docks even acknowledged us. Even worse, one employee complained loudly that he couldn't believe people were expecting to return boats before for store opened at nine - even though we had been told to be at the marina by 8:30 am. I finally approached an employee to ask what we should do. Checking in our boat took about 45 minutes The worst part of renting the pontoon boat was the horrible condition it was in. It was FILTHY. Cushions and cup holders were covered in mold. The radio did not work, the back light was broken, and the canopy top had plastic ties holding it up - making it very difficult to take the canopy down. We rented a pontoon last year from a different location. There are marinas who deliver to area lakes. We had rented both a wake board boat and a pontoon. Both were in spotless conditions. I highly recommend boater's choose a different option than Laprades. We will never rent from them again. read more

Went with family to canoe...took 30 minutes for the staff to find paddles and life jackets. They couldn't find a pen when we checked out. They had sold out of the chubs, plastic thing to hold your glasses on as well as the water proof containers for keys and wallet and such. Seemed very disorganized and not customer friendly. Was going to stay for lunch but wait was over 30 minutes and half the tables were empty. They need a strong general manager! read more

Had a terrible experience renting a pontoon boat for all of a Friday. First, the price on their web site wasn't honored. Was told by Tina the manager that Friday is a weekend day and the higher weekend rate applied. What? Then we learned just before leaving that our boat had no anchor. We had no choice as there were no other boats and we need an anchor for our planned fishing. When I asked Tina for a discount, she told me that none of the boats on the lake have anchors. There's no need. What? I'm sure that's against some boating law. The young staff working there were very nice and pleasant but Tina the Manager, she was rough, rude and does not know what customer is at all. I would highly recommend renting a boat somewhere else. I vacationed on Lake Burton every summer of my life up until 16 when my grandparents sold their cabin here. During our week or so long vacation, we'd always have a family meal at LaPrades. Back in the 90's it was strictly known for its fried chicken. This past summer I made my first return to Lake Burton as we rented out our renovated and prior cabin. In the last 10 years, the original LaPrades burnt down and they rebuilt a new business on the waterfront that resembles nothing like the LaPrades I once knew. This is a lot nicer and classier and actually has chophouse in the name to reflect this change. Probably reflecting the wealthier influx on the Lake. They still offer a buttermilk fried chicken option on the menu (which I sampled from my mom and is mouthwatering!) but have extensive finer dining options. I got the seafood platter (Fried, Grilled or Blackened-Shrimp, Crabcake and Fresh Water Catch, Fries, Cole Slaw, Hushpuppies and Homemade Tartar for $22.95) and enjoyed my meal. FYI the "fries" they mention that come w/ it are actually sweet potato fries, which was a pleasant surprise. Even more pleasant, they were topped w/ cinnamon and sugar. SO GOOD. There's an indoor and outdoor dining area and obviously weather depending, go for the outdoor seating. Just be careful where you sit as the sun starts to get lower - they need to install shades!! I also ate a few days prior at the Lakeside Grill and Bar, located beneath, and ate one of the best Tuna Melts I have ever had. LaPrades does have a monopoly on Lake Burton dining, as there are no other restaurants on the Lake. read more

I rented a pontoon boat from Laprades last Sunday. My experience is almost an exact copy of the other one star pontoon review, but with even more added insult. I rented for the afternoon and paid for the overnight as well. I informed them when I booked and when I picked up the rental that I would be leaving it that evening. Everything was fine on the lake, great day with the kids. I parked the boat at the gas pumps just as I was asked to do. On Monday, I was called and asked when I dropped off the boat and that they could not find the keys.They also said there was damage to on of the navigation lights, which is one of the things I was shown to be previously damaged. I told them where the keys were, and they told me how much gas I had to pay for. On Tuesday I was called and informed that the boat had been inspected again there was a problem with some hose on the motor. I told them that I never touched the motor and everything I saw seemed to be normal to me. Today I received a receipt for 85 in damages, and when I called to inquire why, they said damages and a cleaning fee. As the previous review said, the boat was quite dirty and mildew etc was all over the boat floor. It had obviously not been cleaned since it was rented the morning of the same day I rented for the afternoon. It seems pretty obvious that the management of this has been left to a bunch of teenage kids and the owners or managers are absentee. Worst rental experience I have ever had. I have been coming to this lake and Marina since I can remember, but sadly this was the last time I will ever go to Laprades read more

We rented the FUN boat for our daughter's birthday celebration combination family get together. We also had two jet skis we brought up to play with on the lake as well. We were not told prior to arriving that there would be a lot of traffic for a fun run, but we took it in stride and the police directing traffic called LaPrade's front desk and were told to let us in and told us where to park. Almost as soon as we parked a man in a green shirt driving a golf cart came careening towards us telling us we couldn't park there, move immediately. He had a very bad attitude, and we then learned he was the owner. This was the start to our day. After telling him we would be glad to park anywhere he told us to we went in and started getting ready for our day. We went thru the checklist on the boat, I recommend you pay careful attention to this and take pictures with your phone for later reference. We were under way without launching our jet skis because the ramp was closed we were told until noon. Three of our children/young adults returned to the marina at noon and were told they could not launch until 6 pm. They had to drive to a state park to launch the jet skis which then would not start. The mechanic at LaPrades fixed them and voila we were allowed to launch them around 2:00 or so. Fun day on the lake. We tied up to a friends dock and played and the kidlets drove the jet skis and played in the water. LaPrades allowed us to have the boat until 7pm instead of 5:30 because of the jet ski snafu. So we returned around 6:30pm unloaded and the young man, probably about 17 or 18 started going over the boat with my husband. They pointed to a dent in one of the paper thin metal panels that goes around the boat and said we had caused that. There is no physical way we could have caused the dent. They then said it could not be fixed it had to be replaced and it would be $200, in addition to the $500 for the days rental. My 25 year old son climbed into the boat and pushed the dent out with his hand, then we said OK that is fixed we don't owe you the $200. The response was, well we found two more scratches and those together with be $200. My husband asked to speak to an owner as there were only kids running the show, no owner on site, they had gone home. We told them we would not pay until we spoke to an owner. In the mean time I went into the store and one of the young girls in there asked to speak to my husband about the damage to the boat. I informed her there was no damage to the boat and she said the dent will come back. I said really, how, she said just by driving it, I said my point exactly!!!!!!! We ate dinner at the Chophouse, which by the way, is very mediocre food, and left for home expecting to hear from an owner. It is now Monday and our bank card has been charged not only the $500 for the rental, but an additional $372 for what we have NOT been informed. We will be disputing this charge. Just a warning, buyer beware, if they want $700 for the day for the boat then charge it. Don't run a scam on every customer for every scratch, that is NEVER fixed with the money LaPrades collects!!!! read more
