1000% a scam. I took my puppy for a board and train. You go in for an "evaluation/ consultation" and then they want you to pay up front. I asked them to address a few normal puppy concerns like jumping and nipping which they did not do. Upon taking my dog home he showed absolutely no regard for any of the commands he was "taught." When I contacted Lara the blame was put on me. They said that I must be using the commands wrong. They offered for me to go back so they could reshow me how to command "properly." I did this and still no change. They said it was unreasonable to expect for my dog to be there for 2 weeks and be a newly trained dog. That it was my responsibility to train him the commands that they supposedly taught him. Well then what was my almost $2,000 for? I understand having to practice in order to keep up with them but this was far more than that. They were not interested in helping or finding a real remedy to the situation. read more

We were referred by our Dr.to Lara's for training of our little rescue dog! It was the best thing we ever did!! They are excellent and worked with us for a few weeks..didn't take long. Actually, they trained us..even came to do in home visit to see what we were doing wrong! They had several plans ..not cheap, but well worth every penny! Great staff! read more

I took my rescued puppy here because I was a first time dog owner and wanted to make sure he was going to be trained properly. I was assured that he'd know basic commands after the first two weeks. He likes to chase cars, and they said that they'd need to work with a shock collar to discourage that behavior, which is awful given that shock collars are heavily discouraged for non-problematic dogs and are outlawed in some countries. I still enrolled him in a 2-week course for basic commands, because I was a first time dog owner who wasn't aware of how to train dogs. Lara's canine solutions used a prong collar on a puppy who already was happy to follow directions and didn't have behavioral problems. She reassured me that prong collars would be okay becuase it doesn't hurt when she put it around my arm. However, after the training, I put the collar around my neck as a test to see how my dog would feel, and was shocked at how much it hurt my throat. While my dog was there, he developed aggression problems and anxiety, and developed problems of barking aggressively. Worst of all, after the two weeks, he didn't know any of the commands. I asked him to sit, and he didn't know what it was. He only did "guess work" out of fear when I tugged on the leash with the prong collar which was what the owner recommended. I had to train him all over again at Petco because he didn't know basic commands, and Petco did a much better job and raised his confidence back up. If I'd do it again, I'd find a center that encourages positive behavioral training rather than engaging in negative training with prong collars and shock collars. I brought my dog Piper to Lara's back around 2004. She was somewhere between 4/5 months old and out of control. Not vicious, just hyper and her energy was IMPOSSIBLE to manage. I was at my wits end. I asked my vet for a referral and he mentioned Lara's Canine Solutions. I had no idea what to expect. I was brought in for an evaluation and the program was explained to me. Piper was deemed "trainable" (such a relief) and I took her back just a few days later to begin her two week stay there. Lara and her staff (I can't remember the other woman's name, but she was super nice and friendly) were there to answer every single one of my calls and assure me that my baby girl was doing well and being taken care of. When her training was complete I was asked to set aside a couple hours of my time so they could train me. Lol! The truth is, I was very much apart of the problem. I wasn't providing Piper with the assurance and security she needed to know I would protect and lead her. Let me tell you that the dog they brought out and presented to me was NOT my dog! When I say not my dog I mean that the dog I gave them was basically this feral ball of fur who wouldn't stop jumping on everyone long enough to even listen to her own name being called. The dog they returned to me was like a new, happier, and far more well adjusted creature. I was AMAZED! The trainer walked her around in a circle and offered firm, but gentle commands to her. Piper did EVERYTHING!!! They showed me how to use the prong collar (NOT to be used for abuse by any means) and small corrective tugs on it to correct her. They talked to me about my behavior and demeanor with her and gave me a plethora of information. I learned how to be the alpha dog, if you will. The knowledge and training Piper and I gained thanks to Lara and her team has been priceless. Flash forward 14 years later and my sweet Piper and I are still going strong. One thing Lara told me when I took her in for her evaluation was that Piper would either be the best dog I would ever own or the worst. She said she was willing to bet she would be the best. And she was right. I can't imagine loving another dog this much or having the same kind of connection. Once Piper was trained she was so much happier and more enjoyable. I was able to build a trusting relationship with her (she's a medium-large size dog so that was important) and continue to utilize a lot of her training til this day. I always tell people the best chunk of money I've ever spent was to have Piper trained. I'm not sure Lara and her team know just how valuable their services are. I hope they read this review and realize that after 14 years this customer is still beyond thrilled and completely blessed by the work and effort they put into the worlds best dog read more

We've has our German Shepherd trained here for basic obedience and off leash trading and our Havanese for basic obedience. We are so happy with the results. As a single mom with three kids we were at a point where we actually considered re homing our GS but after the training she has become so much easier to integrate into daily activities. We have also boarded the dogs here and feel confident dropping them off that they will be taken care of and happy during their stay. Lara and her staff are all friendly and amazing. I adopted an adult stray dog and we both went through a basic obedience course (was entirely based around positive reinforcement) and it left us not much better off than when we started. I was getting frustrated at the lack of progress and the level of effort I was putting into my dog's training. They equipment me with the tools and techniques I needed to teach my dog boundaries and how to live in a domestic environment. I cannot say enough good things about this business. I took my very rambunctious, ill-behaved 6 month Labrador retriever to Lara's. I was very worried about leaving him there, not because I worried for my dog, but for the poor trainers that had to work with him! I honestly did not have much hope for success. He was horrible on a leash, pulled and did circles and was just crazy. Any people or other animals around and he would chase and jump. Really, he was bad. After two weeks there, he was a new dog. He is sweet and well-behaved. I can walk with him on a loose leash and he stays right by my left leg. He will sit or down and stay(!!!), even when people come in to the house. I will absolutely be taking him back for advanced training! I cannot recommend this business more highly. If they can transform my dog then they can train ANY dog! If you have a large breed dog, this is the place for you. My Great Dane has been a regular at Lara's since he was a puppy and I never feel bad leaving him there, no matter how long. It is evident that the staff here truly LOVE dogs and that means the most to me. Juke went to the 2 week obedience school and learned and retained a lot! I would highly recommend their training to anyone with large dogs. Plus, if your dogs goes through their training, you get a discount when you board with them. They have large play yards and cool outdoor facilities, convenient pick-up and drop-off times and Juke gets a complimentary bath before he comes home. Juke has made a bunch of friends and they even took a birthday picture of him and texted it to me while we were out of town. It was very special. I absolutely recommend Lara's. read more

BEWARE IF YOUR DOG IS MEDICINE DEPENDENT I waited 6 weeks to write this review because I didn't want to write a bad review but I feel like I was backed into a corner. I left my 6 year old rescue pup in Lara's care for 2 weeks after repeated phone calls, emails and written instructions at drop off that he had severe allergies and needed his Apoquel. I was assured repeatedly he would be well cared for, I even called mid way through and was assured that he was having no allergic symptoms and he was doing great. At pick up, it was pouring rain, we did our training with him outdoors with limited contact ( that is how it is done) As we we were gathering up his things I asked about his apoquel, Lara made a call and said it was gone and the bottle had been discarded. When we got to our truck, a young kid brought our bottle of medicine to the truck and said he just found it. As we were driving away, I counted the doses, EVERY SINGLE DOSE WAS STILL THERE! They had not given him any of his medicine!! NOT ONE DOSE! I brought this to Lara's attention she 'looked into it' and when she got back to me said the girl who is in charge of giving the dogs medicine is a 'very responsible 19 year old'. She has never had an issue with her and maybe I miscounted the doses. My dogs feet and skin are still not back to the way they were before he went there. She did nothing to fix this situation but she sure kept our money and never ever owned their mistake and my dog is still paying for it. read more

We took my daughter's Pit Bull to Lara about 3 years ago. Kya was very hard to handle, wouldn't obey, and very aggressive to strangers. After Lara's 2 week training, Kya was a very different dog. She was well behaved and easily walked on a leash (which was a first). We learned how to control the situation when she didn't like someone - all thanks to the training that Lara provided. We were instructed on what to do to continue working with Kya after the session and it's important to follow her instructions. I took my dog for training at Lara's. Prior to taking her, she was having accidents in the house and she was very not social due to the fact that she is a rescue and has a past history of abuse. She would not bite anyone but would give a warning by showing her teeth. I was told that after the two weeks of in-board training that she would come back with better manner skills, more confidence, and obedience. After bringing her back home she continued peeing in the house but more often and she was more aggressive. She coward down in fear as if she was afraid of something. She has now bitten me several times without any warning or hesitation. I followed all the instructions the trainers went over with me and she has regressed with all of her issues. When speaking to Lara about my dissatisfaction she was rude and not helpful at all, she would ask me a question and while answering her question she would cut me off. Lara also tried to blame my husband and I for her regression, however my husband and I worked with our dog daily on maintaining all of her skills. I do not recommend this place especially for adopted animals that have a history of abuse. We are very dissatisfied because we spent a lot of money with high hopes to better our dog but got very poor results instead. read more

I took my completely healthy puppy to Lara's canine on the recommendation of a friend. I dropped her off and entrusted my dog to her care. When I came back three weeks later, my puppy had a limp, an ear infection, ring worms and vaginitis!!!! And Lara was not at all concerned but rather defensive of her business and workers...zero concern or accountability for what happened under her care. She said my puppy must have a poor immune system!! Well Lara my puppy's immune system was fine until you got your damn negligent abusive hands on her!! I was hit with an $863 vet bill after picking her up for vet visit, cultures, X-rays and medicine. Please, please, please DO NOT take your beloved animals to her as she told me she can't control anything but the high bill you'll get for not even completing what was agreed upon. She was supposed to train my puppy in German also and of course that wasn't done either. And she had the audacity to think I'd bring my dog back to complete the training. Is she insane?? Yeah she must be high on something to think I'd ever entrust her with even a pet rock. Completely irresponsible, unaccountable, abusive and neglectful treatment of my dog.
