My teen was not compliant with elastics. This is out of character for my progeny as normally they are very responsible and conscientious. Treatment was ended without all the problems having been corrected. I did not know this was the case until I found paperwork in my kid's car. I would rather forgo a coffee bar and have better communication. Should have stuck with the other practice in Kentwood. Whether truth or facade it seemed like I was more than a wallet to them.

It was already hard enough finding a dentist in the area that accepts my insurance and who could see me sooner than later and by later I mean a few months from now. I came in with pain in my lower left teeth and when they took x-rays they found out I still had wisdom teeth that were impacted and need to be extracted. OK that's fine I'm totally down for that, at least my insurance covers 80% of it so that shouldn't be too bad. But here's where things became really sleazy and messed up. I was told that I was going to need to get my wisdom teeth extracted before I could get a cleaning done. Then they have the audacity to tell me that I need a comprehensive dental cleaning appointment and guess how much I have to pay out-of-pocket because insurance won't cover it? Nearly $4500. I straight up said I don't have that kind of money and then I was told that they have a financing option, cool well I still don't have that kind of money, I live paycheck to paycheck and my husband and I have separate banking accounts, he's not gonna help me pay for this, he expects me to pay for my own stuff as he as he believes these bills are my responsibility regardless of it being under his insurance. I mentioned something about "thanks Trump" in regards to my wages being garnished due to the student loan debt being reinstated by the Department of education, and Ingrid the financer had the nerve to say "I wouldn't blame it entirely on him" so I know that I'm not in good hands in this place which is really disheartening as a woman because this clinic is run entirely by women. I ended up calling a dental clinic downtown with rave reviews over the quality of work, a dental clinic that has been in business since the 80s and the lady on the phone told me that she was 66 years old, she's been doing dental work since she was 18, And in all her years of dental work she has never heard of such a philosophy. And my best friend had the same thing happen with her boyfriend who has military dental insurance. They feel that they are justified in this "philosophy" of theirs but there is no justification in denying a basic cleaning to a new patient because you want them to get their wisdom teeth taken out first after you just told them that a cleaning will help them with the health of their gums and prevent further decay which is something that I was having an issue with. I am so upset considering how close this place was to me and it was in a safe area, I will not recommend this dental clinic to anyone they will rip you off.

Every dentist I went to wanted to do at least $12K worth of work on getting my front teeth back in line and filling in areas where my gums had receeded. Dr. VanHaren understood that I just wanted to have a nice smile again but didn't want to spend more that a couple thousand dollars. He agreed to try his best in restoring my front teach and definately put his U of M dental education to test! He and his assistant talked through the procedure as they performed it and gave me the smile I was looking for!!!!! No other dentist wanted to waste their time trying to fix my teeth but Dr. VanHaren stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! His office staff is super nice and helpful as well and his hygienist uses newer technology to make sure your teeth are maintained in the best way possible. Great office that I highly recommend!

You see, I've been a victim of 1960's/70's fix-it dentistry growing up. We all were during that time, it was just the way things were done. Then when I moved to Grand Rapids, I had about seven dentist's from 1981 to today. No I'm not bothered by dentistry, I changed doctors for many reasons, I moved, too costly, one died, one was a business friend and a couple of dentists retired on me. They all seemed to do a good job......or so I thought. Then when my last dentist retired and this young guy took over his practice, I was not too pleased. I was tired of changing dentists and I liked the previous doc. But something happened that I never expected. Dr. Andy Van Haren's dentistry skills and knowledge were amazing. The quality of workmanship (sounds odd to say) when he fixed an old filling was excellent. And then it dawned on me after about a year at his office. All the dentists I had before him were just average at best. I never knew what excellent dentistry could be like, because I had the bad luck of always being in the chair of an average to awful dentist. As a self employed 56yr old man who is in excellent health, learn from my bad luck. Choose this dentist "Dr. Andy Van Haren" to do excellent work on your teeth at a very fair cost. I cringe when I think about and look at what my previous dentists did to me. I'm so happy I crossed paths with this professional, talented young dentist who has a real passion for making the extra effort- to do the job right, using the latest technology and techniques in the business.
